  I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the choices here, hoping that some here may be so familiar with the range of products, they will be able to point me in the right direction.

  First of all that I have not a lot of money, do not have more recent need and bells and whistles, things like sustainability, reliability and independence are more important.

  That said I want a Haswell, ideally 'ultra' processor but the fine of i5 and I wish I could go to 12 + GB of RAM later if possible. Prefer the integrated graphics card.

  No doubt NEED DVD burner eSata and gigabit ethernet.

  Rather than SSDS, ideally of 7200 RPM HARD drive.

  I guess even if it comes with the W8 I'll be able to downgrade (driver problems, not a license issue) for W7. And the compatibility of Linux, so an older model is perhaps better than the most recent.

  In fact, I would LOVE to find a unit used on eBay, if it will save more than a few hundred...

  I have to say that, based on the Australian for Premiere Pro CS6 price, I would be terribly tempted by a subscription to all the creative cloud - with access to things like After Effects, Photoshop, hearing, etc. increases the ability of Premiere Pro... but that's just me as a user who has been shocked by the price of stand-alone CS6.

  I don't know if it will work.  You are certainly allowed to have subscription works on two machines, but there could be a problem if you try to download/install in a country that is not the one where you purchased the subscription.  You must communicate directly with the Support from Adobe and see what they tell you.

  Okay, there's a little difficulty because Adobe tries to push you to buy the sub CC, so you will need access to this page:

  Then you will see a banner at the top of the unit which has arrows on the left, browse those until you see Photoshop Lightroom, then buy. Try like in this picture:

  

  Select buy, then new or upgrade and do not forget to select the currency you use top-right.

  You can buy a CD from places like amazon.com and other third-party vendors, but these are only the full version to the full price; You cannot upgrade in the upgrade price from a third-party seller.

  Why don't download you Lightroom 6 and then burn the installer on a CD yourself?

  Why don't you just save the download URL so you can download it again in the future? (You can always download 1 of Adobe Lightroom, older versions are not go anywhere)

  you do not have to uninstall lr 6 before you install one of the versions of cc of lr, but it would make things simpler for you.

  and you can install your programs cc desktop app and lr/ps on an unlimited number of computers.

  you are limited to at most two simultaneous connections at any time.
