I have a cluster with VSAN work, but the Virtual SAN Health plugin gives a warning under virtual health SAN HCL-> controller driver, which the driver used is slightly different from what is on the HCL.  I used ISO customized for VSAN/VMware on Dell website, and this is the only warning gives the plugin.  I would like to specifically install the correct version in the HCL.

So, I have the found for download on the firmware version PERC H730/H730P/H830 Mini/adapter RAID controllers 25.2.1.0037 Driver Details | Reference Dell U.S., but it does not list a download for VMware, only windows and linux. I see it in the VMware HCL to http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?deviceCategory=vsanio & productid = 34853 & vcl = true, where he lists a download for Vsphere 5.5 and 6.0.  How I would deploy for my 6.0 cluster?  Do I need to use the Windows driver from the Dell website and deploy with OME?  I prefer to get it on the VMware site.   I looking in the wrong place on the vmware site?

Not sure if this is relevant, but the Dell OEM ESXi image has been mentioned.  With VSANs, it is recommended to avoid the OEM images and use the image of VMware stock.  Thank you, Zach.

  • Problem with VMWare Tools and the virtual drive

    Hello

I installed the test version of "Workstation" and installed a windows 7 x 86 non-virtual DVD drive mapped, which is mounted on D:\.

Subsequently, I installed all Windowsupdates and after that I tried to install the VMWare Tools.

But every time I get the message that I should look on the 'virtual' drive on D:\.

But there is no virtual drive, it is my DVD of the hostsystem.

Is there a way to mount a virtual drive with tools or install them in another way?

    Thanks in advance

    Taldrit

    Hello

You can directly install the VMware tool configuration by copying the setting in the machine and manually install the same.

Try VMware on another machine tool in which you will get the installation... Copies on disk and then move it to your new VM and do a manual configuration.

  • Of VMware Remote Console Plug-in Setup error: "unable to install the hcmon driver."

    Hi all

I try to install the VMware Remote Console Plug-in for my browser of 32-bit Internet Explorer 11, and I get an error message during installation: "Unable to install the driver of hcmon."

I have Windows 7 64 bit with .NET installed 4.5.5. Anything installed in my device manager, there is no hcmon.

I use an x 86 install files to VRMC (VMware-vmrc-win32 - x 86 .exe), but I guess that this 32-bit version is what I want because I use THE 32-bit? Or is that what I want 64-bit for my OS?

I've seen some posts related to this issue, but all my registry keys seem to be set correctly and my .NET is of course more recent than the version 3.5 SP1, but I hope it's OK.

Also, I got an error on the USB in my Windows logs Arbitration Service, but following the steps described here, and retry the installation also failed with the same error 'hcmon' described above:

Any ideas on what might occur, or other things I can try?

  • slow startup of the host VMWare ESXi 5.5 when installed on the hard drive internal

We have some servers Dell R720 with 256G RAM and 2 6core Procs.  When I install ESXi client for internal hard drives (mirrored array) it takes literally more than 5 minutes to start.  I can watch the vmware boot process crawl slowly the progress bar on the screen in "recovery" mode before moving on to the substantive start-up procedure yellow.

Why is this slow process?  Why a hard drive inside is install using syslinux? (it's the first thing that shows on the display).  If I had to guess, I would say that the only facility to support runs of fat32 on a USB flash drive and the same hard drive installs use this same process to start.  Am I wrong?

I'm late to the party, but we have been affected by this issue. The solution is a updated internally perc firmware.

    It's like night and day.

  • VMware Workstation 10 bug: DVD SATA drive does not start if we disable the floppy drive in the VMware BIOS

    Hello

I use VMware Workstation 10, and I found a bug:

With the all-new virtual machine (for example with Windows 8 x 64), if I choose a hard SATA and SATA DVD drive in VMware and I have to disable the floppy drive in the VMware BIOS, Windows 8 (or Windows 7) ISO does not start.

If I come back in the BIOS to enable the floppy drive once again, my ISO boot.

If I use the DVD IDE drive in VMware options, no problem if I disable the floppy drive.

    With "EFI mode", no bugs.

Please, can you solve this problem? Thank you

    Hi freebeing,

Thank you for reporting this issue.  We have reproduced it is internal and work on it.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

    See you soon,.

  • You want to move install Bootcamp or VM VMWare on the external drive and run it from there.

I have two versions of Windows 7 on my iMac 24 "4 GB. One is a Bootcamp of Win 7 Professional installation.  One is a computer virtual from Windows 7 in VMWare Mac OSX. The two windows installs work well (the Bootcamp we're NOT accessible through VMWare right now).

I want to do is get AN installation running on a partition on the external drive I connected. I have 3 partitions on a disk of T 1.  A 500 GB for Time Machine and 2 250 GB, Mac OSX and a Fat32.

What I wish really is a straight Win BOOTABLE install on Fat 32 partitions, but will sag to move the VMWare installation to the outside OSX partition.

Are there ways to do?  I thought Winclone, but as it is in oblivion I don't know about use.

    Any ideas?

With the Virtual Machine shutdown, not suspended and VMware Fusion closed copy the target Virtual Machine hard disk external package and double-click it to launch the first time and it will fill an entry on the Virtual Machine library.

The extent of the running Windows natively on a disk external Windows is not capable of it in itself although there may be some ways according to the type of external hard drive and various Boot Loader/managers that are out there.

  • I want to add a Windows operating system. It takes on the boot drive?

I have all of the required components to install Windows on a Mac Pro using VMware Fusion. The operating system Windows needs to be installed on the Mac startup drive, or can it be on its own internal drive? All the descriptions that I can find on the installation of Windows on a Mac leave a lot out and seem to assume that there is only a single disk and that the user knows all about the installation process. Should I format the Windows disc first? With what file system? I install the Windows OS first, then install VMware and hope she finds the installation? Who does what to whom and when? All links to this topic?

    Yes you can. See:

Set up Windows on your Mac - Apple Support partition

The only condition is that it must be installed on the internal drive. There are ways to move later to an external drive

  • How much better the partition of the HARD drive for dual boot: Windows 8 and Linux

    Hello

I am a newbie in Windows 8, linux, Partition...

I want to use my new laptop with windows 8 pre-installed on the following:

Create a Dual Boot Windows 8 / Ubuntu
Create on my drive C (single disk on my laptop):

    * a partition for the system
    * one for Windows 8
    * one for data and
    least for Ubuntu OS

    My goal is:

-to install VmWare on Windows 8 and run Splat Checkpoint with virtual machines to make the FCTC laboratories.

to install GNS3 on Ubuntu for CCNP Labs but with GNS3 to access the files in the data partition

I have a Toshiba Satellite with 750 GB and 8 GB of RAM.

According to you, what is the best size for my scores?
Is there a better way to partition my C drive on my goal?

    Best regards

I don't know if this is the right section, sorry for that. Feel free to move this thread in the appropriate section *.

I think the size of partitions depends of the you want to use and install other software.
So if you have a lot of software which runs under the Windows System I recommend to choose a larger size to win 8 partition.

However, given that you have a 750 GB HARD drive, you could take 200GB for Win 8, 100 GB to Linux and the rest of the HARD drive size, that you can use for data.

By the way: I found Nice YouTube video how to create a dual boot using 8 Win and Linux http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_Yd2jK-7Jg

  • Blocking the extension of the boot drive using 'Reconfigure' action

    Hello world

By vRA, once a machine is supplied initially with a plan of action, the user has an option to reconfigure the virtual computer.

We have a requirement that the user must be able to edit everything except that the boot drive cannot be extended.

The user can affect several disks, and other readers can be added according to the needs.

The action Reconfigure comes integrated with VRA, so may not be changed.

I enclose the screenshots for reference, below.

    item page.JPG

    machine_req.JPG

    reconfigureoption.JPG

The Edit option in the default volume in the storage tab should not be editable.

    Can do us?

    BR

    Suraj N

    Hello

It is not possible using the IAAS reconfigures-default action for what I know. All the actions of IaaS are limited to the options shown in the rights / properties of plans. You can check the custom properties of reference if there is a generation in property for this - even though I don't currently remember a property that would disable the boot drive changes.

The only way you can hack makes reverse to action which would include probably handle some .dll files for VMware. Who said: that would be totally not supported and probably break your neck a little later.

The 'valid' option, that you have here is to disable the reconfigure-action task and create a custom using vRealize Orchestrator and ASD action reconfigure task. While writing the workflow would not be that because most of the necessary workflows exist already the downside here would be difficult user interface options limited in the DSA.

  • Cannot expand the hard drive of a virtual computer that is a linked clone.

I have a virtual machine that is a linked another clone.

I did a lot of development and changes to the linked clone, and now ran out of disk space.

Now I want to extend the drive, but I get this error:

"Disks of virtual machines that are linked clones cannot be extended.

So I then try to extend the drive of the virtual machine that he was cloned from:

"Disks of VMS with snapshots cannot be extended. You must delete the snapshots or use VMWare vcenter converter. »

What can I do? If I remove the snapshots of the original machine, do not lose the 'link' to the linked clone? What he suggested that I use the "VMWare vcenter converter" for?

    Does anyone have a solution?

    Kind regards

    James

Create a complete clone of the virtual machine in the current state. Which can be extended.

  • The hard drive is empty.

I am creating a data store in vSphere Client 6.0 and receive the message: the hard drive is blank.  The system sees my RAID and identifies the correct capacity in this regard (21,83 TB), assigns a unit under/vmfs/devices/drives/and so on.

Initially the exposed aircraft had no partition and partedUtil threw some glibc errors when I tried to use it via SSH on the ESXi host.  I started my system with a USB Ubuntu live and used parted to add a gpt partition covering 100% of the RAID.

Start to ESXi, I still get the same results, even with the score already in place.  The window "Add Storage" detects the device, identifies capacity, poster eui/vmfs/device/disks/eui... location, and said that the hard drive is empty.

Finally, it displays the following error, but I have not found solutions to work so far.

Call "HostDatastoreSystem.QueryVmfsDatastoreCreateOptions" of object "ha-datastoresystem" on ESXi '192.168.1.191' failed.

This is my first time with ESXi/vSphere.  Where should I go from here?

After several searches, it seems that this might be related / the origin of the problem: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2079071

The size of the volume 4 k is always a problem in vSphere 6?  If so, it seems that the solution is to rebuild the RAID with 512 byte sectors.

  • Update only the vmware tools?

    Hi all

Recently we received BSOD on server 2012. Microsoft is continuing its investigation, but it seems likely vmxnet3 drivers are involved. Therefore, we would like to update.

However, given that we are now very busy on a project, we would like to avoid completely updated vcenter and ESX (if possible). So my question is, can we day purely VMXNET3 driver to the latest version on our virtual machine? Or maybe only the VMWare tools? Or is there a possibility for stability/performance issues if you do not keep everything on the same version?

    Thanks in advance!

So my question is, can we day purely VMXNET3 driver to the latest version on our virtual machine? Or maybe only the VMWare tools? Or is there a possibility for stability/performance issues if you do not keep everything on the same version?

This isn't a problem, running new versions of VMware Tools on the former ESXi hosts is supported only by the product VMware interoperability matrices:

I am currently deployment of VMWare view for the first time in a test environment and have hit a problem I have not been able to get around despite several searches on google and trial and error.

Hoping that someone here could suggest something.

View the VMWare versions are all 6.0.1.

    vCenter is on a device.

VMWare view connection manager is on a 2012 R2 VM server.

VMWare view dial is on a separate server 2012 R2 VM.

    I have a 2012 SQL on a separate server 2012 R2 VM Server installation.

SQL databases have been set up for the composer to be able to reach it, it uses ODBC 64-bit via SQL Server Native Client 11.0.

I tried troubleshooting by exchanging 32-bit, but this is not connected, it seems so 64 bit is correct.

I have a windows 7 64-bit Enterprise Edition VM under my Golden image. There are VMWare tools on it and the VMWare agent on it.

The virtual ipconfig/release performed top machine, he was then stop and a snapshot taken as my source.

The problem is that when I go to deploy a pool of offices, I get the above error.

If I connect to the VM created via vCenter readers persistent and temporary show very well.

Based on the error, I tried different settings such as change the path for the reader of DVD VMs of D: to Z:, spread unique persistence and the temporary disks on multiple data-stores or data stores and even remove the drive of DVD of VMs completely. I have also looked at newspapers under composer view but find nothing to explain the behavior.

SQL Server seems to work for configuration through the error logs and virtual machines are created and added to AD as expected.

I must point out that the virtual machines are as linked clones.

Can anyone offer a clue as to the cause or something, I can check it please, did everything I can think and Googling the error does not come to the top with something useful so far.

    Thank you

IF you use an Agent 6.0.2 Please downgrade 6.0.1 agent and let me know the results

  • Files of the Update Manager (download patches) eat space on the system drive. Need a way to migrate the files to another volume.

I am using vCenter 5.1 U3 with Windows 2008 server R2 edition. C: drive have 64 GB, but most of the time get alert as C: drive is full. When I checked that the folder "Program Data" Update Manager from the c: server busy more than space. I suspect that download files eat my space.

is it possible to change the location of the download files?

    Hi Mike,.

To change the default download location:

    1. open the vci - C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager\vci integrity.xml - integrity.xml.

    Note: In 64-bit Windows, the default file location is C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager\vci - integrity.xml.

    Search for patchStore.

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware update Manager\Data\

Note: Your new directory is empty and contain valid metadata. Copy the data from the old directory, or run the update vCenter Update Manager download.

Replace the location with the favorite place.

    Save and close the file.

    2. restart the VMware vSphere Update Manager Service.

I hope this helps with your problem.
