Do to restore Windows 7 from a HP computer to another HP computer?

Sorry for my bad English.

Hello

I bought the HP Pro 3400 MT
with a family license Windows 7 Edition Basic 64-bit OEM

My friend bought the same exact computer (= on my recommendation by the way), the store had big discounts)

The hard drive is an area HP_Recovery, no. included recovery disks

my friend deleted HP_Recovery, not back, he took Windows7 (install Linux Ubuntu)

in Russia on computers HP provides the basic guarantee 1 year warranty and my warranty is still

(1) how he regain its Windows7 license?
(2) I made for myself (a copy) backup HP_Recovery, if I have the right, without violating the license agreement and the law, for restoring my backup HP_Recovery him on his computer? Once again, this computer model and version (and writing Windows7) he and I have the same

I want to help a friend, but I don't want to violate the law and lose the HP warranty

advise what to do?

Thanks for the reply

Best regards.

Alex

If the two computers are the same model and the two have a sticker Windows 7 Home Basic COST on the side, then there is no reason you couldn't use your recovery on his computer disks. Computers use the Windows product key on the sticker, instead, they use a massive 0EM activation key and OEM certificate. Make him burn HP Recovery Disc set staff after that his computer is retrieved.

  • Cannot restore Windows 7 from backup image

I created an image of Windows 7 Pro SP1 and recorded on the D partition on the same drive. I also created the CD boot recovery during this process.
When I boot on the restore CD, I have the opportunity to select the image that I saved to D, but it says windows cannot be restored as backup is located on the same drive and the system needs to format the entire disk. I copied the entire image (about 30 GB) USB drive, and then click Start Restore CD. Now when I browse the path on the USB disk to the backup that has been copied from original source, it says not found backup files. What is the problem? backup folder everything is there.

Thank you, Frederik, place the folder "WindowsImageBackup in the root of the drive D:\ solved the problem.

  • Can I restore the backup Windows XP on a new computer with Windows 7 COA and upgrade to Windows 7?

    Original title: upgrade question.

I currently have a PC running XP in a system with an IDE drive. The system has many applications that the company has moved the installation discs, so I need to move the contents of the entire disk to a new system. I was about to do the following:

System backup with a recovery boot disk, in this case a USB.

Restore the entire operating system to a new system that will have a SATA drive in it. The new system will have a COST for Windows 7.

Start the XP and upgrade to Windows 7.

My question is, will it work or the absence of the COA of XP on the new system will prevent me to install?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Short answer, "no, this will not work."

It is unclear what you mean by 'backup' and 'restore', but it seems that if you are referring to the creation of a disk image or a clone of disk on an external drive and then either restore the image or cloning to the new computer.  Assuming that both of these computers was provided with Windows pre-installed, this process will almost certainly result in a facility that cannot be 'activated '.  In addition, unless the software you use has something like Acronis Universal Restore, restore the image from your old computer to a player in a new computer with a different hardware simply will not work.

In addition, the lack of an XP license is not the issue.  There are several problems with the process you describe, but basically, an "upgrade" from XP to Win 7 requires a "custom installation" which means that applications should be re-installed.

I have a new computer with a version of OEM Windows 7 installed.  Recently, the computer restarted itself and now I am asked to select one of the two instances of Windows 7 to boot from.  The first selection of Windows 7 is one that works while the second is bad.

Yes, it but is somewhat limited, I have use Ghost (you would need to buy - see below) or Acronis True Image. My preference is ghost but free trial Acronis will work and there is nothing to prevent you from using Windows 7 backup system and Acronis.

  • Old computer is dead, HARD drive still alive. Can I install windows 7 on your new computer without formatting the old HARD drive?

My old desktop computer recently died of a motherboard failure.  As I understand it, I should be able to install windows 7 from my old computer to the new, but only if I delete the old installation.

Does this mean that I have to format the old HARD drive?  Because the old computer HARD drive seems to be alive, I would retrieve the data on a new machine first, before I have to format and I need to install windows on the new computer to get the data from the old HARD drive.

No, it is taken on trust that the old installation is no longer active, there is no mechanism to remove the old license in order to make a valid new. Remove the Windows directory (or rename) makes the old system inoperative.

You find that the automatic authentication fails on new construction and need to call the licensing Center to check that you have only one installation. Apart from the OEM rules if a license has been activated too often, and recently, it fails in a 1 time.
