Documents we WENT to iCloud

Wow, I just realized, with the new update for Sierra, My Documents folder has been MOVED to iCloud. I thought that I did a lot of reading on the new update before actually doing it, and I NEVER remember reading that would happen. I know it says what's in my office would be available on all of my devices, but I can never remember reading that my documents folder would be PROPOSED to me. A documentation of this written somewhere in Apple?

If not, I want to express my disappointment that Apple would automatically have this rather than make it an option that I could choose IF I wanted to. I'm an Apple fan, I love their products, do all my work on apple products and all the memories stored in apple products, but I find this lack of terrible disclosure.  Was it just a way to get people to sign up for more storage?

There are several reasons that I need my design documents, policies, customer files, stored on my computer, rather than in a cloud so I really wish that we had the opportunity to make this selection, rather than have it done for us.

Just needed to vent my disappointment in this issue.

Annette

I thought it was clear that if you have enabled Documents and data on your files would be moved, not copied.

Just upload them to your Mac and turn off Documents etc.

  • I received a text document that went into another language, how it translate to English?

I received a text document that went into another language. I don't know what language it is. How to get English, so that I can read it...?

    * original title - please help! *

Go to a page of internet translator like Bing Translator or Google Translate and paste the body of the text file in the text box for the foreign language. This can be done by opening the text document by pressing on Ctrl + A (e.g. Select) then Ctrl + C (e.g. copy). Then, place the cursor in the new place and pressing Ctrl + V (for example the dough). Let the program automatically detect the language of the source if you are not sure of its origin, and then click translate to the English equivalent.

  • Documents & files transferred to iCloud Desktop

Even though I am quite certain that I refused the option move these two folders to iCloud when I was installing Sierra, that's where they found themselves. What setting change in order to get back them on my hard drive? A screenshot would be useful.

If I keep these two folders in iCloud, are they get saved anywhere else? I run time machine on my Mac.

Under the checkbox for "Optimize Mac Storage", it says "the whole contents of iCloud drive is stored on the Mac if you have enough space." I use 500G of 3 t of my Mac's hard drive. My iCloud drive is < 50. Assuming that there is enough space, where on the hard drive of the Mac would be content to iCloud album stored?

    Thanks for your help.

What I found on my Mac, office files and Documents are still exactly where they were and with all my documents in them. They are simply not displayed in the home folder in Finder.

For gory details, see my post on this (bottom of page 2) subject: Re: Documents TRANSFERRED to iCloud

I'll see what happens when I disable Desktop, Documents and report.

Update: when you disable Desktop and Documents, it warns you that the contents of these two files will be available in iCloud drive. In my view, that he also warned me when he finished the dissociation.

You can then drag the content of office files and Documents in the desktop and Documents folder to your folder. It warns that the files will be removed iCloud drive.

As the backup, the files still exist, in my home office and Documents, records and those records were not hidden system files, so they should get backed up.

I have not tested if Time Machine was dedicated to not save them or not.

  • I'm unable to open documents on my mac iCloud drive

I'm having a problem where I am unable to open documents stored in iCloud drive on my MacBook Pro.  I already could solve this problem of disconnection and return in my iCloud desktop account.  This step doesn't work anymore.  When I try to open any file stored in iCloud, I get a message saying "the file _ could not be opened."

Example: I opened the Pages.  When I try to open a file through this program, it will not be open.  If I try to open the file in the Finder, the same result happens.  This applies to the files of numbers and .pdf files.

    Hi mattfrompdc,

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple!

Looks like you are having some problems at the opening of documents stored in iCloud drive. If you do not already done, please go to iCloud.com and connect see if you are able to open the files there. If you are able to open the documents there, the next step would be to start the MacBook Pro in Mode safe and see if you can open documents from your iCloud drive it. A time tested, and then restart the MacBook Pro and try to access the iCloud drive as you normally would.

  • Help: I deleted a numbers document that was in iCloud. Can I restore from a previous backup?

I deleted a document my iCloud numbers. A backup ran yesterday. I can retrieve this document of the backup and if I can how?

    Thank you

Documents in your iCloud drive are not part of a backup to iCloud - iCloud: overview of backup and storage iCloud

If you have an iTunes backup, then use instead. If you have another device connected to the same iCloud account and it has not been used recently, you can try to disable the wifi on it and then see if the copy local caching of the document pages is always on this device. But if it has synchronized with iCloud drive because you have removed it from the document, then it will not be there.

  • How can I get rid of these annoying and frequent reminder on my music library iCloud session?

I get a steady stream of said notification, "your music to iCloud session has expired. "To reconnect, sign in with your Apple ID" the only options are to click 'Cancel' or the red ball to close the window - in a short time, it pops up again.

I went into system preferences and clicked on "iCloud. Under 'Options', I see what apps store documents and data in iCloud, but iTunes is not among them, nor any application related to music. When I click on the check mark by "iCloud Drive" I get a warning that, "If you turn off your iCloud drive, all documents stored in iCloud will be deleted this Mac."

I have no interest in using iCloud and have never tried to create a music session. This warning scares me because I have no idea what documents are stored in iCloud.

Go to Finder and select your user folder. With this Finder window as the windshield, select Finder/display/display options for presenting or order - J.  When the display options opens, check "show the library folder. This should make your visible user library folder in your user folder.  Select Mobile/Library Documents. Documents stored in iCloud will be there.

  • iCloud drive wrong size

I just installed macOS Sierra and synced My Documents and desktop to iCloud. It's a nice feature, but I have a problem.

In the iCloud settings, the green bar of 'Documents' shows I have 3.22 GB of documents. When I open the iCloud drive, I see two folders: desktop and Documents. And these two are the only records there.

In my hard drive, the desktop size is 1.9 MB and the size of the Documents is 1.65 GB. I even chose to not "Storage optimize Mac" and so I guess that the size of the files must be identical on my local hard drive and iCloud drive.

Any ideas why the iCloud think there is almost two times more data than what I downloaded on iCloud? It's frustrating because I seem to have no way to free this storage space and now my iCloud is constantly giving a warning that it is almost full.

  • Why sign on icloud removes PC docs?

You will need to disconnect from the icloud to reconfigure my video cards... get a warning that says it all documents stored in the icloud will be deleted from my PC... I'm now afraid to do so... why is this and how to make them come back?

The warning message you get when you disconnect from iCloud on a computer or peripheral you said that the version stored locally this iCloud media will be deleted from your computer or device. This does not mean it will be deleted to iCloud. You have access to this media via your iCloud account. They appear and are available on your device or your computer as long as you are connected to this iCloud account. But when you disconnect, the 'link' is broken, so you can no longer see or access. Once you sign in your iCloud account, media will be displayed again in its correct place.

I understand your message that you are not able to save your document Pages. I know how it is important to be able to save your Pages documents for later use.
