Documents & files transferred to iCloud Desktop

Even though I am quite certain that I refused the option move these two folders to iCloud when I was installing Sierra, that's where they found themselves. What setting change in order to get back them on my hard drive? A screenshot would be useful.

If I keep these two folders in iCloud, are they get saved anywhere else? I run time machine on my Mac.

Under the checkbox for "Optimize Mac Storage", it says "the whole contents of iCloud drive is stored on the Mac if you have enough space." I use 500G of 3 t of my Mac's hard drive. My iCloud drive is < 50. Assuming that there is enough space, where on the hard drive of the Mac would be content to iCloud album stored?

Thanks for your help.

What I found on my Mac, office files and Documents are still exactly where they were and with all my documents in them. They are simply not displayed in the home folder in Finder.

For gory details, see my post on this (bottom of page 2) subject: Re: Documents TRANSFERRED to iCloud

I'll see what happens when I disable Desktop, Documents and report.

Update: when you disable Desktop and Documents, it warns you that the contents of these two files will be available in iCloud drive. In my view, that he also warned me when he finished the dissociation.

You can then drag the content of office files and Documents in the desktop and Documents folder to your folder. It warns that the files will be removed iCloud drive.

As the backup, the files still exist, in my home office and Documents, records and those records were not hidden system files, so they should get backed up.

I have not tested if Time Machine was dedicated to not save them or not.

  • iCloud Desktop Drive and Documents folders

Just updated to Sierra and thought, it would be a nice feature to be able to back up desktop and Documents folders to iCloud. However, this isn't really what he does... Instead it moves to your desktop and Documents folders to iCloud Drive. Using your desktop and Documents folders disappear favorites. Likely, it erases the hard disk space, but this isn't what I wanted. I wanted to work on my files on my hard drive and for these to be synchronized / mirror in iCloud. As I don't do real work on the files in these folders on any other device than my MacBook Pro, having these files available by other devices was not important to me.

    Now my questions are:

    (1) Will Time still Machine back up these two folders which are now in the cloud?

    (2) if I want to recover these files on my hard drive (my computer > users > user My > Documents/Desktop), what is the best way to proceed?

    (3) is there a clever way to use iCloud in the way I intended?

    Hello tormod v.,

Thank you for your question about iCloud Drive and Sierra here in Apple Support communities. I understand how iCloud is important, and how the features can sometimes confusing, especially when things like the new macOS Sierra and iCloud combing Drive.

The first thing we want to make sure is that all your data is safe. You can perform a backup using Time Machine and an external hard drive. Some people recommend an external hard drive twice the size of your internal hard drive, because finally he fills with the backups, but as long as you have a car large enough to store all the data currently on your Mac that will suffice. Use this article to help make a backup of your Mac: use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac. To answer your first question, now that these files and folders are in iCloud drive, those who will be saved differently and separate Time machine. To do this, please open this help article: Archive or make copies of your data to iCloud under the first section, titled 'the Documents and files of the iCloud drive '. You will need to download them to the computer again and then make a Time Machine backup, display instructions.

To get these files on your desktop, go ahead and disable the function of the iCloud drive option in system preferences. Then, after the warning, go ahead and drag and drop your iCloud Drive, return to your computers local documents files and/or folders of office. Move this disk to iCloud files and put them on your computer.

You last question has been answered by yourself and the article I post above to make an archive or copies of your data to iCloud. iCloud and iCloud drive aren't backups. Yes, you can make backups of iOS and save them in iCloud, but to perform a live backup of all your files and folders, they must be located on the internal hard drive or external hard drive connected to your Mac, and that external hard drive is not excluded from backups in the preferences of Time Machine.

Thanks again and have a great rest of your day.

  • I'm unable to open documents on my mac iCloud drive

I'm having a problem where I am unable to open documents stored in iCloud drive on my MacBook Pro.  I already could solve this problem of disconnection and return in my iCloud desktop account.  This step doesn't work anymore.  When I try to open any file stored in iCloud, I get a message saying "the file _ could not be opened."

Example: I opened the Pages.  When I try to open a file through this program, it will not be open.  If I try to open the file in the Finder, the same result happens.  This applies to the files of numbers and .pdf files.

    Hi mattfrompdc,

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple!

Looks like you are having some problems at the opening of documents stored in iCloud drive. If you do not already done, please go to iCloud.com and connect see if you are able to open the files there. If you are able to open the documents there, the next step would be to start the MacBook Pro in Mode safe and see if you can open documents from your iCloud drive it. A time tested, and then restart the MacBook Pro and try to access the iCloud drive as you normally would.

    See you soon!

I'm trying to scan multiple pages in a document file. I am currently using Windows 10. What are the steps to do this successfully.

    Hello

Thank you for using the forum.

To use the Scan software on your printer, you will need to download and install the printer driver.

We recommend that you download the full features and it can be found here:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-envy-4500-e-all-in-one-printer-series/5304875/model/5304876#Z7_3054ICK0K8UDA0AQC11TA930C7

Once you have installed the software, you can click the icon for the printer on the desktop and it will bring up the HP Printer Wizard and you can use the Scan software.

You will first need to scan more than one page, select "Save as PDF".

Once you've scanned the first page, in order to scan several pages, you will need to click on 'Add page' (as shown)

When you are finished, you can save the document.

  • (Interrupted) poor disk i/o on the VMS during file transfers

Hi - I'm a newbie to vSphere useage. My apologies if this is obvious...!

What overall behavior we are seeing?

-Transfer speeds of slow file between given VM and a remote computer

-VMs periodically freezes on the command-line ssh connection

What tests have been done and what were the results?

-Download wget via known connection 100 Mbps-> transfer speed is very low and has declined steadily, vmstat suggests the VM freezes when it writes the data in the buffer to disk

-transfer of physical machine to the virtual machine is much slower than expected, speed decreases and then increases after a period of time - there seems to be a total blockage of the I/O for about 5 minutes, during the transfer of large files

-write speed disc shows 19 Mbps

-before install us VM we receive transfers to all about 95Mbps between machines on the network and almost as good from remote machines with good pipes to their end

NB during those tests, no intensive activity happening on any of the other virtual machines. During the normal use of all virtual machines, at least 2 if not all virtual machines become so slow as to be unusable.

We have a kit that we think should be more than enough.

We organise four VM (linux, CentOS).

Most of the work of the virtual machine will occur will be file transfers to/from the VM and the LAN to the host or remote device via the internet.

Files will be read or written in a/Import/Storage location in the virtual disks - storage is on the host machine.

File transfers are made by using proprietary WAN acceleration software that is proven to get 95% of the bandwidth available on UDP transfer.

File transfers will sometimes also be TCP or HTTP.

Maybe we did a few obvious errors or omissions in our allocation of resources or the configuration of our kit. However, it is very frustrating because the performance sometimes makes the virtual machine unusable.

I'm after pointers as to what we must try to work again then, or what we should have checked that we do not have. Thank you!

    Detail:

    Model of host machine:

    HPDL360

Intel Xeon 5504 (2.0 GHz) with 4 cores

    4Gio RAM

    Records of host machine:

    2 x 330 GB SAS

    RAID 1

(NB would have previously implemented us a host with the specifications below using 2 × 500 GB 7 .2kRPM SATA disks but became poor i/o performance, so we increased the specification according to retail but still see questions.)

    Type of disk controller:

HP P410i RAID built-in, no cache or battery

    Available called bandwidth:

    100 Mbps

ESXi version on the host: 4.1.0_260247

    Virtual machines:

    The host contains 4 VM.

    Each virtual machine uses Centos 5.5 (2.6.18 - 194.32.1.el5)

    set resource pools 4 up on the host, each containing a VM, each pool configured identically as follows;

    CPU resources;

    Actions: Normal (4000 in gray)

    Booking: 1609 extensible MHz

Limit the 6500 Mhz (in gray) unlimited

    Memory resources:

    Actions: Normal

    Booking: 3375 MB expandable

    Limit 13500 unlimited (dimmed) MB

    A VM in each pool, no resource options defined on the computer level or by default, the values apply as follows: allocation of resources;

    Actions: Normal 1000 (in gray)

    Reservation: 0 MHz

    Limit 2000MHx unlimited

I've also attached a document with screenshots of the performance of the host and the VM that is involved in the transfer to show the fall of IO mi transfer performance. It can be reproduced to a certain extent.

You need a controller with battery backup write cache and this active (write), simple as that.  Perhaps there is also a duplex problem if expaining slow transfers of the box - check the ports on the switch and natachasery in vSphere Client all show good negotiation.
