Whites must be filled with existing information about a database and a user. The information may point to Oracle 10 g, 10g, 11g, and others, but the database and the user must exist to complete the connection.
As a (future) computer, ask yourself "how this connection information that you are testing are indeed correct and valid. It might be useful to have this discussion here...

Oracle 11g XE and SQL Developer
Hello:
Very new here. I don't know where to post anything. My apologies, but I'm all over the room.
I installed 11g and downloaded SQL Developer (not even sure if it should be "installed" because it's just a zip file).
In any case, on the SQL command line I get SYSTEM CONNECT, then my password. I get the following error:
ORA 12154: TNS could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
Also, the "get started" link not working anymore. Don't know what's happening, or if it is specific to my laptop. I tried to connect two days without result.
Thanks for any help.

SQL Developer - JRE or JDK Data Modeler
Hello
Mainly, is - anyone of you can confirm that I need the JDK (or J2SE SDK as indicated in the error message) - and not only JRE as indicated on the OTN download pages?
I just downloaded "SQL Developer Data Modeler" w/o JRE. Mainly because I already have installed JRE 1.6.0_17, so download it delivered is not necessary - and secondly I would not risk of intefering with the automatic software update the JRE on my company IT support staff.
I might well be a complete Java lover, but shouldn't JRE is sufficient, if you want to run java applications?
Soon, KHi Hauskov,
JRE is sufficient for the Data Modeler work but there is a restriction in datamodeler.exe which comes from JDeveloper. If you don't want a JDK, then you can use datamodeler.bat - in this case you must bin directory Java to be listed in the PATH environment variable.Philippe

SQL Developer 4.1 stuck on loading for Mac
Hi all
I'm currently under Mac OSX 10.11.1 (El Capitan) and I downloaded SQL Developer 4.1. When you try to start SQL Developer it gets stuck loading, shown below.
JDK, I am running:
Java version "1.8.0_45".

According to me, that it points to the right path of the JDK. When I run SQL Developer sqldeveloper.sh I get the following exception:

How and why I get lowered note version 4.1 to 3.2 SQL Developer?
First of all, I must say that I am a newbie. I know a little SQL to use it on my own over the years to build queries and reports outside the overview of the it Department. I'm at halfway through the first book Fundamentals SQL for Oracle Database 12 c Certification in the end.
A week ago when I started this journey, I downloaded Oracle 12 c and later SQL Developer 4.1 and was using SQL Developer 4.1 successfully. But when I tried to follow the examples of OE and HR in the book of preparation review making simple queries, I had to download the "examples of database" oracle.com/downloads. I downloaded the zip and run the setup.exe file. Now, I'm going to open the same exact shortcut, which I had used for SQL Developer 4.1 and it now opens instead of the SQL Developer 3.2! Why the hell should I suddenly have SQL Developer 3.2 an older version? Has anyone else got a happen to them? Do you know why it happened to me? And above all, it won't hurt anything if I returned to oracle.com/downloads and re - download SQL Developer 4.1 the latest version? Or do I somehow the old version of the SQL Developer to use the HR and OE schemas, tables, and data?
Thanks for any idea you may have in this weird situation.
Heather
You can install as many versions of SQL Developer you want, simply unpack each in its own empty directory.
"Examples of database" download & install must have diverted your shortcut. Probably version 4.1 is still installed and you just create a new shortcut. Better yet, 2 shortcuts: one for version 3.2 and one for version 4.1, as in the names of shortcut 'SQLDev32' and 'SQLDev41 '.
Edit: Using 3.2 for the examples in the book preparation will be easier because the SQL Developer can change from one version to another and no longer exactly correspond with them.

SQL Developer 2.1 (filtered) tables
Just downloaded SQL Developer 2.1 and try to use it. Have been using SQL Developer 1.2. Looks like a major difference - the most immediate is the tables (filtered) to jump on me. I looked at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/files/NewFeatureList21.htm and nothing comes to mind of what he meant.
So, that means Tables (filtered) mean? That means the green round thing on the procedures and functions mean?
Can someone point me to documentation / white paper any?
Thank you
-andy-Right-click on the node and you will see "apply the filter...". ». Inside of this dialog box, you get a 'Help' button which leads you directly to the help topic.
As the Green thing, it is probably a bug in the Green Lady, which means that you have this code compiled for debugging.Have fun

SQL Developer with Vista aero compatible problem
My computer is Vista Ultimate x 64 US. I downloaded Sql Developer here
http://www.Oracle.com/technology/software/products/SQL/index.html
When I run it, the aero glass effect turn off automatically, when I close the sql developer, the aero power on again.
Why does this happen? Oracle offers a version compatible vista of the sql developer?
Thank you for any information. My guess is that the developers at Oracle were very smart and disabled the lint and demand for its huge resources, so that you could concentrate on what is important... computer management.
The only machine I've ever had with Vista has been formatted and hour later so I could put a serious operating system on it so I have to admit that I'm not fan of the appearance on the bottom.

Order that SQL Developer Modeler generates objects in DDL download
Little annoying question... When I have an existing data model that includes all of my table definitions and ALSO my package definitions, I try to make a DDL download and load it into an instance of Oracle 11g and get an error on a procedure declaration does not have a column type.
What I see is when I open the prepared ddl script, the package is created until the table is under construction. Is it possible I can tell SQL Developer Data Modeler to build like objects together (table, then sequences and then triggers and packages and procedures/functions?
SQL Developer Data model version 4.1.3 Oracle database 11g r2...
Thank you
Tony Miller
Los Alamos, NMHi Tony,.
Data Modeler generates at the beginning of the Package definitions in the DDL file, so that they appear before the objects such as Tables, views, and triggers that may refer to them.
And the Package body are generated at the end, so that they can refer to Tables and views.
Unfortunately there is no option to change the sequence of generation.
In general, the Data Modeler takes dependencies between objects into account to generate the DDL file objects in a proper order.
However, it does not detect the dependencies TYPE %. I connected an enhancement request to add to its dependency checking (22581821).
Kind regards
David

SQL Developer: Failure-Test failed: IO error: got at least one by a CA read
SQL Developer: Failure-Test failed: IO error: Got minus one since a call to reading
Hello
I'm sorry I know this is probably more frequently asked question, but I have no idea what I should get.
I looked at the error message above to see if I could find a solution, but unfortunately I do not have.
Right let me start with I'm a Total Noob... Well it terms of having to install Oracle 11 g myself.
In my University they welcomed a database and we assigned to a user & pass it's how I was using SQL Developer,.
but since I'm no longer a student at the University. I need to use the Oracle database.
So I downloaded Oracle 11 g Enterprise installed on my laptop that I don't use much.
Name of the database: Christiane
It of the entire facility and seems to have succeeded, I went https://localhost:1158 / em (although not sure why em? what's the deal with that?) I thought that it would be Https://localhost:1158 / Christiane) anyway...
Connected with the user of the System .
Went to users and creates a named user: RUDUHR
Thinking Yes its not work... go my other laptop open SQL Developer.
Connection created with the following settings
Name of con: RK
User: RUDUHR
Pass: TEST
Con type: basic
Role: by default
Hostname: 192.168.0.8
Port: 1158
SID: Christiane
It does not work well, why is that?
192.168.0.8 is portable which oracle 11g installed and running.
I even tried to use SYSTEM user to connect, but same error
also tried to change the SID to em, it made no difference I get the error message status: failure Test failed: IO error: Got minus one since reading call
So are am clueless... LOL I only know how to create tables and stuff not how to set up a database.
and just to let you know that I transfer the port on me correct portable router. It does not work well, why is that?
192.168.0.8 is portable which oracle 11g installed and running. It's because you read the documentation.
1158 is the default port for Enterprise Manager
1521 is the default port for Sqlnet.
Your port number is incorrect.Of course, you can create your tables in EM too.
As by the Forums of the label of the post (first link when you arrive at this page) it is recommended that read the documentation before asking an another Doc issue yet.

Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler start error
Hi all
I just downloaded Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeling (2.0.0.57.0) [released July 1, 2009] by selecting the option ' Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler for Windows (this zip file contains the JRE).
After that I installed the same and tried to start clicking on datamodeler.exe, I get the following error message
"Failed to create an instance of the JVM on the path:... \jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll.
On the same machine, I can successfully run the SQL Oracle program without error. My machine is having Windows XP Professional SP3.
Any ideas? If there is a problem with Java, that of the Oracle SQL Developer should also not run. But as I said it runs with any error, but the Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler gives the above error.
Kind regards
JAA149Hey Jawad,
you wrote you have 960 MB of RAM - how did you do a test with 1.5 MB of RAM and 2 MB of RAM?
No doubt this is a problem of memory - memory change in the datamodeler.conf file option:
-There 'AddVMOption-Xmx768M"by default; to take
-"AddVMOption-Xmx512M" or never, making it suitable for your configuration - you can check the available free memory first.Philippe
