Drive-by infection... !

Did a Google search today and found a result that seemed fair. Clicked on the link and started reading this site, but do not click the links on the page.

A box of Windows Defender (victory 10 Pro) suddenly appears in the middle of the screen saying the site was potentially dangerous and advised me to click on a button in this box to go to my home page. Wasn't sure if it was legitimate, so I rather closed IE11 window.

A short while later WD arises again, this to say we found exploit: HTML/Axpergle.AK on my system. The MS website says this feat comes in e-mails, but I guess it's from the site that WD warned.

WD said it could remove the exploit, but I needed to reboot so I did. Running Malwarebytes on this PC, but I do not know if he would have to detect/remove this feat if she was still there.  Guess I'll also SAS execution when MBAM is done.

Something else I have to do?

It is not safe out there!

Double-click on the icon/shield MBAE in your taskbar to open the user interface.

Click the SETTINGS tab.

Acheck the box marked "Show system tray ToolTips notification."

  • If I am infected with malware?

    Hello!

This is my first post in the forum, but I followed the discussions since I got my MacBook and the community is very useful.

I decided to create this post to ask the experts of the view.

I received a phone call from the network admin at my University saying that I (and a few other students) have been infected by trojan Zeus and he attacked the University network. I found very doubtful after doing a quick search on this Trojan horse and did not find any relationship of Zeus with OSX. Yet, it made me a bit paranoid so I keep changing my passwords and began to scan the system in order to find if there is some malware.

One thing that is important to mention at this point, I sometimes use a machine virtual Windows 7 (Parallels Desktop) which is only used to interact with the instrumentation in the laboratory of the University. The virtual machine has a WiFi connection shared from OSX and to access the files, the folders shared. The virtual machine has only Microsoft Security Essentials 'antivirus' installed. And I don't remember installing any new software on the virtual Windows machine since the start of the alleged "attacks".

So I unplugged my Mac from Internet, disabled sharing records of VM with OSX and began to analyze the Windows VM using different software and following the instructions on this website: https://malwaretips.com/blogs/zeus-trojan-virus/ , nothing has been detected.

I proceeded to analyze OSX using MalwareBytes and even installed Kaspersky Internet Security to give it a try. Done a few scans and still nothing.

I did a scan with EltreCheck and read the report. I've removed some of the plugins that I was not using more, since this installation of Mac OS x is always updated from Lion.

This is the report of EltreCheck at the moment:

    EtreCheck version: 2.9.12 (265)

I installed as well the "firewall" Radio Silence to analyze applications and connections. After Google search on some processes, always about 'weird' jump.

I'm ready to do a clean install of Mac OS x, but since I am each week make backups Time Machine, my main worries:

-What happens if my files on my external backup drive are infected by malware, I can't get back them without "infect" once again cleaning installation of Mac OS x, right?

I would like to ask your advice about the vulnerability of my system and any suggestion on further analysis for the detection of malicious software supposed to.

    Sorry for this long post,

I would really appreciate the help

You must change your settings for call control.  Set it to "Anywhere" is dangerous.  Go to system-> Security and privacy preferences and change it to "Mac App Store and identified developers.»  Two, you have uTorrent installed - unless you are in the rare, rare, very small minority of people who use torrents for legal reasons, I think we both know that you use it for, and which may cause your system damage if you download something that is infected with malware or adware, as are most of the torrent offers.  I don't see no malware/adware on your hard drive, at least through your EtreCheck report, so you should be fine.

I would also add that if you have anti-virus for your Windows partition, it is one thing, you don't need anti-virus for your Mac.  Anti-virus programs cannot protect you from malware or adware, and that's what Mac users needs to worry.  In addition, many AV programs negatively affects the performance of Mac because they don't play nice with them.  Therefore, I would like to uninstall Kaspersky and keep the program AV that you use for your Windows installation.  Windows needs an antivirus protection, OS X is not.

  • My hard drive crashed and I need to reinstall XP PRO but my computer does not start on the CD

I went into the BIOS and changed to start from the windows xp pro disk but no matter if I put in the pro or the original disk, I get 'disk read error.  CTRL Alt Del to restart.  BIOS can see how much space is left on the hard drive, so it's there, and BIOS knows I want to boot from the installation disc, but it doesn't.  What I am doing wrong?

Hi Jade4142.Did try you go to BIOS and set it to the default settings and put the disc in, and then restart. There are many variables to a disc is loading. It could be the Platinum cd/dvd is defective, the disc is dirty, scratched or any black disc market. It you load on the HARD drive that crashed? If so, it could be that the HARD drive is infected? If this is a new HARD disk, you must leave the disconnected HARD drive, start the computer that lights up and looking for a hard drive. In this way the motherboard works independent of the HARD drive. The motherboard doesn't have a HARD drive to boot. Once you start without a HARD disk he won't say you no HARD drive or o/s found. Stop it. Connect the HARD drive for the sake of things a NEW HARD drive. Then start the unit go to BIOS and set to boot from the cd/dvd and then save and reboot. If the disc is genuine, and it's a new HARD drive, it should load without problems. He must ensure that the cd/dvd is above the machine to choose this path.click top and press the sign on your keyboard + and you'll see it move to the top of the list. If she is not at the top is not first in line to start. Just trying to help.

  • XP is not start properly, important data files on the hard drive, location unknown such as e-mail addresses, individual emails and favorite links on Internet Explorer. The system is damaged irreparably, what is the solution?

I need ideas to solve this problem.

You can retrieve the data without being able to get into Windows. The methods described require a certain level of computer skills. You know yourself best, and if a better course of action would be to take the machine to a local professional with a good reputation instead. If you choose to do, do not use a type of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad of the place.

1 remove the drive and put it in a box of USB drive or use a USB adapter. Attach it to a computer that is running a working XP/Vista/Windows7 installation. Use the work of Windows Explorer to copy the data to the hard drive of the system to the rescue and burn data on cd or dvd, or copy it to an external hard drive. I prefer not to do it if I know the drive is infected because he has a chance to infect your host system. In these cases, I use #2 below.

    2. you can start the computer target with a Bart PE (XP only) or Linux Livecd such as Knoppix or Ubuntu and retrieve the data in this way. This has the additional advantage to tell you if the problems you are experiencing are hardware or software related because if the computer behaves perfectly in Linux, you know that Windows (software) is the culprit. Conversely, if the computer behaves badly under Linux, you will know that there is a hardware problem. This is general information on the use of Knoppix for the recovery of data when you do not have Windows:

You will need a computer with two cd records, one of which is an engraver of CD/DVD OR a USB thumb drive with enough capacity to contain your data OR an external USB hard drive. Download Knoppix .iso image file and create your bootable CD *. If you do this in a previous (XP or Vista) operating system, you will need the third burning like Nero, Roxio or free ImgBurn software (Windows 7 can burn .isos natively). Burn as an image, not in the form of data. Then boot with the CD that you created, and Knoppix will be able to see the files in Windows. If you use the USB key or an external hard disk, right-click on its icon (on the desktop) to get its properties and uncheck "read only". Then click on it to open it. Note that the mouse action by default in the window manager used by Knoppix (KDE) is a simple click to open instead of double-click traditional MS Windows. If you want to burn CD/DVDs, use the K3b program.

    * If your computer has only an optical drive and you want to use this drive to burn data or need to test drive, you can create a USB bootable Linux instead of a bootable CD. This site will show you how to do it- http://www.pendrivelinux.com

We must believe the error message telling you that your hard drive is about to fail. If you are not technically proficient, take the machine to a local computer technician who will try to back up your data and then replace the hard drive. Do not use a type of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad of the place. Otherwise, you may be able to get the data saved by one of the methods below and replace the hard drive yourself.

1 remove the drive and put it in a box of USB drive or use a USB adapter. Attach it to a computer that is running a working XP/Vista/Windows7 installation. Use the work of Windows Explorer to copy the data to the hard drive of the system to the rescue and burn data on cd or dvd. 2. you can start the target computer with a Bart PE (if you use XP) or a Linux live CD like Knoppix and retrieve the data in this way. General information about the use of Knoppix for this are:

You will need a computer with two cd records, one of which is an engraver of CD/DVD OR a USB thumb drive with sufficient capacity to store your data, OR an external hard drive formatted USB FAT32 (not NTFS) *. Download Knoppix .iso image file and create your bootable CD. If you do this in a previous (XP or Vista) operating system, you will need the third burning like Nero, Roxio or the free ImgBurn software (Windows 7 can burn .isos natively). Burn as an image, not in the form of data. Then boot with the CD that you created, and Knoppix will be able to see the files in Windows. If you use the USB key or an external hard disk, right-click on its icon (on the desktop) to get its properties and uncheck "read only". Then click on it to open it. If you want to burn CD/DVDs, use the K3b program.

    * My understanding is that you can now write on NTFS from Linux partition. If you wish to do this, Google for instructions on the use of the NTFS driver.

    http://www.Knoppix.NET

IMPORTANT - If there is no question that the drive is at fault - there are noises, for example - and the data is crucial NOTHING else ON THE DISC. Whenever launch you this player you can destroy data. If this is the case, send the drive to a professional data recovery company. I use savers by car, but there are others. General prices run from $500USD on-site. Investors recovered all disk data on a portable player that failed for one of my clients, and it cost $2 700. He thought that it was worth the money; only you know what's worth your data. I understand that some insurance companies now cover fresh data recovery so check with yours.

    P. S.

If the 'C' drive is infected it spreads to the other HARD drive.

Here is a link to the plug to motherboard you are looking for.

I use Norton Internet Security on my current loan of the HP Envy17-3002ea product for laptop and subsequently ESET Smart Essensials on my own PC and laptops. Two of these products are considered as offering superior protection against viruses, malware and adwarewhen compared to the firewall and security included with Windows 8.

What is infected is the operating system and some kind of files are used as a means of spreading the infection. The type of files that are infected, and which become means of author reproducing their payload depends on the type of virus, malware, or adware and the intention of the author.

  • Click left and right is messed up. A lot of things does more and more things fail to work.

It started a few days ago. I use a refurbished Acer Netbook. While on my desktop screen, left click lowers the list box dropdown right click almost as if the computer is configured with a one-click option.

It also began to fail on me. I currently have Google Chrome (who I am right now) and Zune as my two tabs to the right of the start menu. I can't open w/out Zune by using Alt + Tab.

In addition, using search engines like search engine for YouTube to find videos is miserable. I'm on the left, click on the search bar and get in a letter, when the drop-down list box right click goes down won't let me type anything else in

I hate this problem because I can't do anything on my laptop now. Becomes slower and slower now I must move on.

This could be a software, but it might as well be for lack of material. It is not possible for me to say. If the machine was present in the shop, I would:

    1. remove all the data needed to be backed up from outside of Windows. See the end of this post for how to do this.

    2. test equipment to ensure that it is healthy (and I suspect that it is not).
    http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_Tshoot

If everything fails, you will need to make the decision whether to replace based on what component is, its cost, the cost and age of returned computers, etc.

    3. If the material passes all the tests, do a factory restore of Windows with the Acer recovery media. If you do not have the recovery disks, you can order them at Acer. It is generally very cheap, around $ 35 to $ 30.

    Extract data from Windows outside:

If you do this in a previous (XP or Vista) operating system, you will need the third burning like Nero, Roxio or freeImgBurn software (Windows 7 can burn .isos natively). Burn as an image, not in the form of data. Then boot with the CD that you created and the Windows files will be visible under Linux. If you want to burn CD/DVD, there will be a Linux burning program to use.

    * If your computer has only an optical drive and you want to use this drive to burn data or need to test drive, you can create a USB bootable Linux instead of a bootable CD. This site will show you how to do it-http://www.pendrivelinux.com

  • Delete a file called "wre.exe", now two of my virus scanners will not work and nor does internet Explorer, how to fix?

I took my computer to the shop twice to fix the same virus, and then I got it again. This time, I decided to try to fix myself because obviously they couldn't do it, despite having taken $200 from me.

my mother gave me Norton antivirus, and its history has shown me where the file kept showing in taskmanager, so I went there and deleted. the virus seems to have disappeared and to a large extent, my computer seems to work but I can't run microsoft security essentials or antimalware bytes. haven't tried my other programs yet, but I know that I can still read PDF files, and I can see my photos. the icon of internet explore doesn't work, I got in line to say things to try to find the file online. whenever I try to go online, or use one of my two antivirus, it tells me to choose a program to use to open it.

is there anyway that I can fix this? really get rid of the virus? I can't afford to have this fixed thing again, and of course, they are unable to him anyway.

If you like not what it was, I think it was called xp antivirus 2012 or something similar.

in fact, its virus programs not only blocking, his block anything that does not use another program to run, like adobe or realplayer. I am sure that it changed something. I'll try this thing to scan in any case, just to see if it finds anything. If it isn't, I have no choice but to do a complete reinstall of windows.

is there a risk to the installation of an operating system from an obsolete drive severely? as in will be my computer be infected again until he finally update all the way?

First of all, you can not delete a file by using the Task Manager. You can choose to terminate a process but cannot remove a file that you have indicated above in your initial post.

Second, you can't have the two Microsoft Security Essentials and Norton installed on the same machine. Conflict reducing your coverage and possibly even cause a blue screen.

Thirdly, you are unable to open due to the malware programs change you file associations of executable files.

Fourthly, you have problems to connect to the internet most likely because the malicious software modified your internet connection settings.

It will be easy to fix if you follow my instructions carefully.

With the help of a good working computer and flash drive you mentioned above download the four files below save them on the flash drive.

    XpExeFix.reg

    RKill

    RemoveProxy

    Malwarebytes< it="" doesn't="" matter="" that="" you="" may="" already="" have="" malwarebytes="" downloaded.="" use="" the="" one="" on="" the="" link="" i="" provided.="" it="" has="" been="" renamed="" to="" allow="" it="" to="" run="" on="" infected="">

Now take the flash drive for infected patients. Open the flash drive. Right-click on XpExeFix.reg and choose merge. Confirm the prompt. You should receive a message that the information has been added to the registry.

Then, double-click RemoveProxy and run it. Once the operation is completed, you should be able to access the internet. If you are unable to run the file go to the step below and run RKill and then return to this step.

Then, from the flash drive double click on RKill and choose to run it. It may take a while to complete but, just let it run. You will get a window similar to that of the command prompt and must be informed when the process is complete.

Once the RKill completed, double-click Malwarebytes and choose to install it. Update to update the installation, then run a full scan. Remove any detected object. If you are unable to update just for some reason any run it.

Post when you have completed these steps for additional instructions.

  • Help! Urgent! Please, I beg you!

I went on facebook and clicked on a quiz and then out of no where then a screen I showed my "My Computer" and telling me that my C and D (recovery drive) are infected by virus about 345 and spam etc. as well as a program no doubt Web Page-with a yellow logo was picking up the virus (I think). I panicked and close it and then a box just 'web Page' wants me to install an application, so I just cancel it.

Quickly, I used my software Norton 360 and it detected cookies, and nothing more. I opened my application and all apparently be running OK as far as I could tell. So, what should I do? If I let it be. ?

I asked the hp tech guy and he said I have better backup and recover? But it looks and works very well. The program "web Page? or was something authentic and really detected the virus.

Install MBAM free, run the program and go to the update tab and update, then go to the tab scan and do a quick scan, select and delete everything it finds.

    http://download.CNET.com/Malwarebytes-anti-malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

When MBAM is done install the SAS free version, run a quick scan, remove what it selects automatically.

Is not like Norton AV software, scanners, they request that single scan for nasties when you run the program and will not interfere with Norton, these can be performed once a week to ensure that you are not infected. Don't forget that you update before each weekly analysis.

  • Computer hangs at startup of the system

Original title: computer crashed win Defrag

I recently picked up win defrag... I have windows xp and tried to put it in safe mode, and it froze.  Now it is completely empty when I try to start :(  I removed my hardrive and crossed norton key usb connected to another computer.  It's still frozen... I'm on the right track?  How can I manually remove the infected files from another computer?  Please help-

    K

    Hi katkit,

1 did you stop defragmentation on the drive?
    2. using Norton on another computer, were you able to remove the infected hard disk files?
    3. do you get an error at startup of the system?

You are on the right track if your hard drive is infected with the virus. However if you try to do something else, then I think not that it is a good idea. After scanning of the hard drive, connect it to the computer problem and start insafe mode.

Please provide us with more details, so that we can better help you.

  • How does a virus attack a computer?

Original title: Lisa you need to be a genius...

is free _ free.i mean really its ok look at it but what happens if I try to download a movie? you have to open or to download something to get a worm or a virus? IM Lisa hope you have a good day... and I love microsoft... Thank you... Sonny...

Of course, you can get a virus from an e-mail. This is probably the #1 way or #2 people get infected. More common is when people open an attachment, especially one of someone they don't know. However, you can get infected just by opening the e-mail. As for the infected web sites, this is called a 'drive by' infection

You must ensure that your AV software will analyse incoming emails (as updated).
