Duplicate a virtual machine, is it possible?

I just created a virtual machine with windows xp pro, and I would duplicate this machine, so I can use this when the first has a problem...

Is it possible, or I need to install a new computer virtual one since the cd rom... ?

What is the best way?

It is a separate product to manage multiple servers from a central interface.

    Hi all.

We used to be a Horizon view manual pool composed of virtual machines
from vCenter server. In a single operation for removal of VM in view, we

wrong selected pool and confirmed the deletion. The

operation put merrily and when we realized the error, we

find vsphere client that all VMs funds (a lot of them

were running) in the manual pool view both were removed from the inventory

and from the disc in vCenter server.

This offends and confuses us. It is commonly accepted that it is
Cannot delete a virtual machine running of vCenter: vSphere client no

But the view above disaster might suggest otherwise.

    I have two questions:

    Hello Sun Nathalie,

Finally, I was able to create your question on my test bench, but as I said earlier, it is not possible to remove a power on the virtual machine, which was true. When I deleted the pool which consists of power on VM, I saw in the VC that VM were power off first and delete.

I also talk to the team from the horizon and they said that this device is designed this way to support several other features. To save accidental deletion of the s VM that they introduced the warning message.

    Sorry for your loss.

    Thank you

  • Cloning a virtual machine, is it possible?

    Hello

Before this question, I tried to find the answer and to clear me on this issue, the fact is that it is is not clear to me yet.

I would like to know if it is technically possible to clone a virtual machine running and what are the disadvantages - if there is - with a running virtual machine. Perhaps it is preferable or necessary to stop the mv to be cloned.

I have 5 Vcenter. I don't know about cloning function it is differences between versions of vmware and have been improved accordingly.

I give thanks for your help.

    Best regards

    John

Yes you can clone the virtual machine running, you have vcenter to do.

If you clone with virtual machine off, ends faster than running.

  • Butterfly e/s on a virtual machine - is this possible?

    Hello

vSphere is perfectly capable to limit the movement of CPU, memory and network, but I can't find any options / documentation on how to limit a VM disk IO. We use NFS as the back-end storage, so I can't set up actions. In addition, configuration of actions is also not exactly what I want; I want to be able to limit a VM for example to have a maximum of 500 per second I/o operations, not more.

I'm asking this is because we have many virtual machines on some data stores NFS; There are a few virtual machines that generate so much IO other VMS are delays etc.

Is it possible somehow? Perhaps by distorting the vSCSI adapter?

    Thank you

    Niels

Hello and welcome to the forums.

For the moment, it is impossible to Accelerator IOPS / s on the drive the way you describe.  No doubt ask the obvious here, but have you identified the source of the IO in virtual machines to ensure that he cannot be stopped?  AV scans, defrags, bulk copies, etc. could be taken into account.

    Good luck!

  • Copy or duplicate virtual machines

I installed ESXi 3.5 and I use VMware Infrastructure Client to manage.

How can I copy/duplicate existing virtual machines the simplest and fastest way?

I tried to copy files between folders, but the server hanging, so I presume that there is a better way...

    Concerning

    Marius

Simplest is to clone virtual machines, but this feature is not available in free ESXi, you have vCenter.

So I guess the only way is to use FastSCP (free tool), download power power VM off to your office and new different directory. Then right click on .vmx datastore browser and "add to the inventory.

  • How to configure the virtual machine for the changes to forget

Hi, I want to ask if it is possible together in the virtual machine for the changes to forget. For example - user run VM... make some changes in the configuration. Then come a new user has it want to have clear (without changes in the configuration) virtual machine. Is possible together closed the machine after changes lost?

    Sorry for my English.

    Thanks for help.

    Hi Polo939

First, you will need to take a snapshot of the virtual machine.

    • Select your virtual machine

    • Click on "take a snapshot" on the right-hand side of the web interface

Then you must configure the virtual machine to go back to the snapshot when it is turned off.

    • Click on "configure the VM.

    • Click the "snapshot".

    • Select "back to overview" under when you feed off option

  • virtual machine on the host computer has been detected to have a duplicate ip address

I have seen several threads about this, but they are all either point to one) all resources used or b) firewall issues, and since I have neither, I wanted to see if anyone knows the answer...

I have 6 servers identical all running the same exact version of ESX Server 3i 3.5.0 build-153875 and 5 of them work perfectly, but the 6th gives the same error as the original poster. It obviously isn't a problem of firewall from the 5 / 6 work very well and I connect to all (and about 15 other servers vmware ESX Server) of my workstation. The server with the question has no installed VMs (don't stay connected long enough to build a) and he passesd all hardware diagnostics I run on it. It has an IP address static, put in place like all other servers and ESX I reinstalled several times.

Looking at the logs, I see this message: virtual machine on the host has been detected with a duplicate IP address

How is this possible, is that there is still no VMs on that? Anyone know how to fix this?

How is this possible, is that there is still no VMs on that? Anyone know how to fix this?

Not sure why she complains VM, as you didn't tell any virtual machine set up, but define you as static.  Are you sure that you do not use an IP address already in use?

Disable the ESX host, can you ping the IP?  Something is using this IP address somewhere, so the message can be vague, but something is causing an IP address conflict.

  • Is it possible to run virtual machines on Satellite A500-1DN?

I want to know its possible to run a virtual machine on my laptop?

(Windows VM cannot start the computer does not support hardware virtualization ed)

    Help please

Even if the processor supports virtualization, it can be disabled in the BIOS by default and must be activated before use.
Then please enter advanced BIOS settings and check if the virtualization technology is enabled or disabled.

  • vRA 6.2 API - is possible to ask a new virtual machine based on a machine of model using the API

    Hello

Is this possible in version 6.2 API at the request of a new virtual machine based on a model of Machine catalog?

Yes, you need to specify the new virtual machine in json format and publish it on/catalog-service/api/consumer/requests

  • Is it Possible to access only bypassed FC HBA to multiple virtual machines

    Hello

I have a FC HBA on my 5.5 ESX. Server. It does not support the function of SR - IOV. Is it possible to access this FC HBA across multiple virtual machines?

If possible, please provide as follows to go further.

    Kind regards

    Aashish

It is not possible. The basic material underlying PCI specification does not have a single shared between several independent operating systems PCI device.

SR - IOV solves by creating the virtual function peripheral PCI, but as you mentioned, that he can't stand not and first of all, ESXi supports that SR - IOV for Ethernet network devices and not for native FC HBA (excluded FCoE) functions.

  • Is it possible - installation of a virtual machine with Server 2008 on a disc and use the other drive for storage

I have a Dell power edge server with 2 Configuration of disks 1 TB in raid 0

I can install a Win Server 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2 on a VD without problem, but I do not see the other disk of TB in option within Windows Server to be used as storage SQL only.

How can I get the two disks to appear in Windows server?

    what I want is:

First Dell 1 TB drive VD = Server 2008R2 and SQL on C:\

Second VD Dell 1 TB drive = D:\ like disk storage

do I have to configure the Dell VD another way or is it possible

    Thank you

You basically configure the virtual machine that you want on all the available storage (do not forget to keep free space, for example snapshots). -As I understand it - is so that ESXi does not see the storage! This is often caused by the RAID controllers not taken in charge or the RAID issues. Please check if the RAID controller is supported as well as the configuration. BTW. Why do you want to configure RAID0? If you want to create two virtual disks on warehouses of separate data anyway, simply present to ESXI as two separate disks/volumes.

  • Is it possible to power - off a virtual machine?

Hello, I wonder if it is possible to power - off (no downtime) is a Virtual Machine with PowerCLI. I know cmdlet Shutdown-VMGuest but not a similar "Poweroff-VMGuest '...

During the weekly virtual computer restarts, we see some test virtual machines by hanging the mode on the left (some Windows VM with gray screen without the mouse, etc...). Then I need strength and power - on those virtual machines because the case comments is not operational. Is it possible to make these Power-off with PowerCLtI?

    Thank you in advance.

    Best regards.

You can use the Stop-VM cmdlet to turn off a virtual computer. If necessary you can even add the - Kill parameter to stop the virtual machines specified by ending their processes running on the ESX.

  • Not possible to export a list of virtual machines that are created in the past 7, 30, 120 and 180 days since an imported csv file containing the date of creation of virtual machine

Not possible to export a list of virtual machines that are created in the past 7, 30, 120 and 180 days since an imported csv file containing the date of creation of virtual machine. My questions is the correct statement to the variable: $VmCreated7DaysAgo: $_CreatedOn "-lt" $CDate7.

    # #SCRIPT_START

    $file = "C:\Users\Admin\Documents\WindowsPowerShell\08-18-2014\VM-Repo.csv".

    $Import = import-csv $file

    $VMCreatedLast7RDayRepoFile = "C:\Users\Admin\Documents\WindowsPowerShell\08-18-2014\Last7Days.csv".

    $start7 = (get-Date). AddMonths(-1)

    $CDate7 = $start7. ToString('MM/dd/yyyy')

    $VmCreated7DaysAgo = $Import | Select-object - property name, Powerstate, vCenter, VMHost, Cluster, file, Application, CreatedBy, CreatedOn, NumCpu, MemoryGB | Where-Object {$_.} CreatedOn - lt $CDate7} | Sort-Object CreatedOn

    $TotalVmCreated7DaysAgo = $VmCreated7DaysAgo.count

    $VmCreated7DaysAgo | Export-Csv-path $VMCreatedLast7RDayRepoFile - NoTypeInformation - UseCulture

Write-Host "$TotalVmCreated7DaysAgo VMs created in 7 days" - BackgroundColor Magenta

    Invoke-Item $VMCreatedLast7RDayRepoFile

    # #SCRIPT_END

You can use the New-Timespan cmdlet in the Where clause, it returns the time difference between 2 DateTime objects.

    An example of this cmdley

    New-TimeSpan-start (Get-Date). AddDays(-7)-end (Get-Date). Select days - ExpandProperty

In your case, you could do

    Where {(New Timespan-démarrer ([DateTime] $_.))} CreatedOn) - end $start7). {7 days - gt}

    But beware of negative numbers.

  • Is it possible to rename a virtual machine built with vCAC in vCAC?

I thought it would be easy enough, i.e., it would be in the Articles--> Machines and either of the actions/edit the option form the drop down. I don't see anything that would allow me to rename a virtual computer in vCAC (at least of the discovered elements). Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, how?

Edit: I suppose that just rename the machine at the OS level only is not good enough in this vCAC would not know the changes. If this is not the case and he would take the passage of an OS level rename, then that's also what I need to know. So this is another question I'd not be so: what happens in the vCAC if you rename the machine at the level of the BONE?

    Hey there!

There is no option to rename a virtual computer after he provided vCAC, why would you need a computer virtual needs to be renamed if you have already chosen prefix VM, if you don't like to use the prefix works, you can the custom property to provide the name of the virtual machine asking for it.

If you, at all times, choose to change the name of the virtual machine and the DNS name is also populated new name, here's the good news for you, vCAC detects him name change at the level of the BONE and rename the virtual computer in the vCAC console but the bad news is that the name of the folder to the level of the old data store that could give administrators a moment difficult to follow the huge list VM other virtual machines.

I hope this should help you!
