Duplicate files RAW and JPG (sidecar) in organizing

Hello

I usually store RAW formats and a small JPG file for each photo that I take with a Canon EOS 7 d. When they are imported into Lightroom 4.4, Lightroom displays a single image, noting that the associated JPG is an image of "sidecar". When they are imported into Photoshop elements Organizer 11 two photos are displayed, i.e. every single photo is duplicated.

How to set up Photoshop elements 11 Organizer to show only a photo for each RAW/JPG?

Thanks in advance,

David.

Lightroom and the Organizer have something in common: they contain no image files. They only store information about where the files are physically stored. They are a list of these tracks (pitches). RAW and JPEG at the same time are two different image files. Thus, you cannot talk about duplication of this point of view.

What Lightroom and the organizer do not have in common is the way they treat the "Duets" of raw and jpeg files. At the point of importation, the organizer has always considered as separate files and any two of them, as described by 99jon. LR recognizes the fact that the two files are two variants of a sudden and offers a choice of import: ignore the jpeg or consider ist as a type of file "sidecar".

The use of the organiser so that it shows only a thumbnail, once they have been imported? This is possible if you use the Visual similarity search: you can choose to automatically suggest photo stacks just after the stage of importation. Your files will be stacked and you will see only one photo in the navigation area. You can reduce the batteries or develop them in the navigation area. After stacking, any organizing task as side, keywording will apply to these two files, a bit like the real version sets.

I don't think you really need to shoot in raw + jpeg most of the time.

It can be useful when you become familiar with the raw processing.

We could make an immediate way to display images on your card when you have no computer at hand. In this case, erase the JPEGs of the fair catalogue after that importation in the catalog is the simplest and fastest solution.

To view on your computer without elements raw images, it may be useful to have another free software able to show thumbnails of raw (faststone, xnview...) files

In addition, if shooting raw only, it is easy to export a jpeg version ad-hoc (temporary) of your import package from the Organizer to share with friends. It is preferable after slaughter and rating and make a few quick keywording.

  • How to import files from RAW and jpg formats

If I shoot in RAW + JPG format images, there are two files for each image (a RAW and a JPG).  When I import into LightRoom, only the RAW files appear on the screen to import.  To import the JPG file, I need to download the jpgs from the card to the computer and then separately to import computer jpg files into LightRoom.

How can I get the RAW and JPG images formats appear in the import window?  I have an iMac, import images from the card via a card reader and use LR CC 2015.

In your Lightroom preferences, there is an option to treat JPEG files next to raw separate image files. If you check this option, then Lightroom will import JPEG images, but also raw images. Once you select this option you can synchronize files that have already been imported and JPEG images will be added to the catalog.

  • RAW and JPG

I want to know what is the difference between RAW and JPG format?

    Ursula,

RAW format is an unprocessed photo. The camera records what he sees, depending on the settings you use. Sort of a digital negative, this format allows you to recompose the shot allowing you to change different settings that you would be allowed to a JPEG. All the captured information is recorded and kept, so if you have used the wrong balance of whites, for example, you can fix this easily when you process the RAW file.

JPG (or JPEG) is a transformed photo. The camera uses the settings of the camera and finalizes the picture in the camera for you. There are limited changes, that you can do to the JPEG format because whatever the treatment has not used gets scrapped. Not as easy things like blown out sky are retrieved as with a RAW image since the details are gone.

RAW files provide much more detail and to look more closely at how you saw the scene and want the finished product looks. The disadvantage of RAW files is the file is very large and cannot be played without special software. Canon provides the Digital Photo Professional software to view and convert the RAW files. JPEG into smaller files and is easily shareable.

Hope that helps you understand the difference.

  • Two copies of my pictures: Raw and JPG!

    Hello

Looking at my library of Photos I can see that the application has created duplicate photos when I imported the raw files. Looks are two images, but they are the same except one has a much larger file size. The information shows that they are the first two, but Im guessing the other is a proxy JPG.

I want to only keep/use of raw files. What I am doing wrong, and is there a way I can easily get rid of these strangers JPG?

    I hope you can help

Where do you see that? Photos (then you ae shooting RAW and JPEG and you will need to change your device settings) or by using the finder (Note: NEVER use the finder inside the photo database - there is no user serviceable inside and change of andy as small as can damage your library)

As for ordinary with RAW photos you will always have the original RAW and a smaller JPEG preview and a very small thumbnail JPEG - i.e. how work pictures - changes are saved the data basic and applied to th eoriginal when you export it and a JPEG preview is preserved in the current edition of picture for a quick reference and use by other programs - if it's not what you want then you need to use different software as this is how photos woks

  • Images in RAW and jpg - how to separate?

I shoot RAW formats and jpg, that I have the RAW format for detailed editing and the jpg for quick tweaking to publish on the web, as required, or make a quick copy to friends.  I'll probably stop this (shooting them both) when I get used to the edition of RAW, but it's part of my evolution and growth to develop my skills in my digital darkroom.

When I started with LR, I used the Beta 2 and simply imported my catalog of 8 PS elements and it worked very well, because the two versions of the image have been imported so that I could see both of them, and then choose the image I wanted for further editing.  I have now upgraded to the new version of LR3 and just downloaded my first set of images of a shooting weekend - went looking for birds blue and only found a nest with an active couple in it.  I go back for more in a day or two - more images that is.  It's strange how the population of nesting Robins-Blues in my part of the western Prairies decreased significantly in the past five years, but it's a story together, different, anyway to proceed... I downloaded the images from the shoot of this afternoon and found that the image (Canon - CR2) RAW and jpeg format show as a single image with a title that says IMG_xxxxx. CR2 + jpg.  I would like to be able to break the two different images outside, or at least get to each of them separately for editing purposes.  For the life of me, I can't understand it.  I'm still waiting for LR3 Kelby book that I pre ordered... maybe this week.  Not sure if that will tell me how to do this, assuming I can.  If I can't do that, then I'll have to import in Elements 8 and then re-import this file in LR3 - I don't want to do a process.

Any idea anyone can provide on how to do it (I guess it's possible) will be greatly appreciated.  It's maybe something as simple as a 'switch' on a predefined import or setting up a "Preset" import "custom" (if there is such a thing). Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards

    WesternGuy

It's in the preferences on the general tab - under import tick options "treat JPEG files next to RAW files as separate pictures"

(and yes I only found it after I had created my catalog lighroom!-it was easier for me to start over again and all over again with the option checked - I don't know yet of an easy way to reverse that in the previously imported photos)

  • After Windows 7 upgrade - duplicate files, folders, and applications

I don't know if this is the right place for this question. After the upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows Vista, I had a lot more on my computer that I did before. I did an inventory of what's on my computer and found copies of almost everything I had 2-3. Is my only recourse now go through all the files, folders and applications and delete the extras? It is a mammoth task since I have almost 1 million files (such as indidcated by my most recent scan). I did this or he was depending on the upgrade to Windows 7?

Leave me a comment aside: I've been using Windows since Windows 95, and whenever I go through an upgrade, need me 2 months to get my computer to where I could simply use it instead of having to fix it and fix it and fix it. Is this '' fun '' reserved for me alone, or others have the same experience?

Never read your problem of duplicates of files is also system files or simply your personal files?
If it's that much of a hassle tried to do a clean install?

There are many duplicate files in the Windows.old folder on your C: drive?

Usually, but not always, after I installed Windows 7, you'll have a Windows.old folder on your C: drive that contains data from the previous installation of Windows. Open Windows Explorer and under 'Computer' click the C: drive - if the Windows.old folder is on your hard drive, it will contain all of your files to the Windows system, and it can be removed if you do not need to free up space on your hard drive.

Make sure that you can see the Windows.old folder:
    1. click on start, type: hidden
    2. click on 'display the hidden files and folders '.
    3. Click to select "show the hidden files and folders".
4 uncheck the following three points:
    Hide empty drives
Hide extensions of known file types
    Hide protected operating system files
    5. click on OK
(Note: after you are done go back and double check "Hide protected operating system files.") If you want to change the other return parameters are.)

How can I remove the Windows.old folder?
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/how-do-I-remove-the-Windows-old-folder

If the Windows.old folder does not remove:
In Windows Explorer, you should see a folder called Windows.old on your C: drive. That contains all of your files from your previous installation. If you need all the files, you can copy them to another folder and then delete Windows.old. If you do not need anything in the folder, it is safe to delete.

Yes, each CV can have its own unique set of keywords, metadata, develop adjustments, cultures, etc. etc.

  • Comparison and sorting of raw (NEF) & JPG in LR

I am interested in importing raw and jpg and then comparing them.

I want to apply different effects on the raw files to see if I can match or better the JPGs, returned by the camera

    (I use the Nikon).

    Background:

In the past, I used L:R to view my Nikon NEF files side by side with the camera JPG files and discovered the amazing versatility of the NEF files to solve problems in the image files and so I always preferred to work with RAW files.

But I recently read a discussion of NikonView (or maybe it was different, software by Nikon NX2?) compared to LR in which several people agreed that Nikon is better to render his own SHIP as ADOBE files and they suggested that it was because the Nikon engineers know the exact process (algorithms?), they used to extract and calculate the chip data and thus can better engineer the right to the editing environment even if Adobe uses a "best estimate".  I have no idea if this is true, but it seemed plausible.

Now I do not have the latest version of the Nikon software but I wanted to see if I could compare jpg 'good' of the camera to the image of the raw data in LR.

(Without having to buy the softwareor even open a free demo)

The first thing I did was import NEF files and JPGs as separate importations in the same catalog, by changing my import settings.

    .

It was easy to notice the difference on my screen. (How does that translate to print, I don't know.)

What surprised me, is that the jpgs from the camera immediately look better than the NAVE "Unproessed" files.

(When it is properly captured.)  I do not expect to be as easy to improve however as the raw files.

But I couldn't the Raw file to resemble the JPG?

I tried to assign the NEF files my favorite camera profiles (used portrait put in camera)

Even on eidting my first RAW file, I noticed that if I wanted to match the jpg files, I use other adjustments such as contrast, recovery etc.

I intend to make quick mass-settings for RAW files to see if I could match or beat the jpg for the overall image quality

I wanted to use synchronization to copy those affecting each file.so NAVE, I started sort NEF files and JPG files into different groups and soon discovered I don't know how to do this:

Is there a QUICK WAY TO SORT / GROUP of TYPES of FILES IN LR?

Can I select just the RAW file or just the JPG files?

I know that I can sort the metadata files, but cannot figure out how to sort by extension.

I realize that I can do to work around the problem by deleting the entire folder in the catoalgue and sorting using windows explore (XP) and then re-import them separately.

But I think that there should be an easy way to sort directly in LR.  But I'm afraid, there is no.  Am I wrong?

Once I sort, I would be able to mass - apply settings (such as contrast settings) to a set or another and to do some side - to - side comparisons between RAW files and jpg files and make the most of my photos.

To select by file type, go to the metadata Panel in the library filter (if it is not displayed check

( Display filter bar on the view menu). Click on one of the panels of meta data, and then select the file type. Select the type of file you want.

  • Why my raws look different when I view in Adobe Bridge/Adobe Camera Raw and digital P guns

    Hi all

I'm sorta new to take Raw photos and I have been using Adobe Bridge / Camera Raw to edit. When I take my photos (I use a Canon t2i) I set it to save a raw and jpg. When I find these images in Adobe Bridge / Camera Raw I notice a clear difference in the jpg and raw (I understand the concept behind raw vs jpg. If im not questioning why a different aspect) it is obvious all the adjustments that have been applied to my jpg. gross natural vs.  My question is: when I find the same two images in the software that came with my camera, professional digital photography canon, the canon and believed almost identical look... My hypothesis is that canon applies the same "adjustments" of my own as he did to jpg files?  Anyone using these two programs and noticed it work?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Michelle

Canon software reads the camera in settings and those in the RAW file as the camera software, if applies so the RAW file should open looking like the JPG of the camera.  You can then make adjustments of this starting point.  Adobe and other third party software does not read all the camera in settings and apply instead a default set of conditions for the departure of starting point, which is why the initial image, you see when you open the RAW with Camera RAW file does not resemble the hearing in camera JPG.  Camera RAW's default camera profile is Adobe Standard, which is not the same as the profiles used by the camera.  Camera RAW has it for Canon 550 d camera profiles, which I believe is the same as the t2i.  Click on the camera Calibration tab in ACR (Adobe Camera RAW) and select the camera profile you selected in the camera (camera Standard, trusty camera, camera neutral, Protrait of camera or camera landscape) - all profiles listed are for the camera that took the photo.  This should give you a match much closer to what you get the camera if all other parameters of the camera are nominal values.  You can save a new default value of ACR and in future all images will be open initially using the new default values.

  • Solution for a rotating banner that plays the .flv and .jpg

I am looking for a solution to create a banner of website that can play .flv files with .jpg. I have several extensions to Dreamweaver for galleries and banners XML, but none can play multiple files .flv and .jpgs.

I need the banner to start with a static .jpg file and then fades to a .flv file, another .flv file, then a file .jpg for the final frame, change every 6 seconds or more. I use Dreamweaver CS3.

I couldn't find any Dreamweaver extension that could do this... maybe possible using behaviors in Dreamweaver / javascript?

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Here is a publisher of flv free, simple, allowing you to cut and save/delete the rest of the file without having to re - making the video:

    http://download.CNET.com/Moyea-FLV-editor-Lite/3000-2168_4-10912717.html

Of course, if you are planning more complicated changes, you have a more robust program.

Make a conversion and then re - a double whammy and may lead to a big loss of quality but also more time.

. FLV is just a container format and not a 'video' format, it might be better to just break the container and offset the .avi or mpg located inside, rather than do a conversion and the potential loss of quality. Here is a good little utility for this:

    http://Moitah.NET/

FLV Extract... I have used a number of times and find it very convenient.

Don't forget to plan this out... get the exact pixel dimensions you will use in your banner. If it's short and wide... This means that you may need to "reframe" the video. Download all your dimensions figured out in front if you do not mismatch later.

    Good luck

  • Cropping saved original raw and more final .jpg

Shooting RAW on a Nikon D600 and treatment with 13 elements PS on Windows 10.

At the opening of a picture of the Organizer to the editor, I want to crop and adjust the colors in the treatment of RAW, which will open its doors before entering the PSE13 Editor. I then save the image as a .jpg file in a different folder. The problem is that harvest (and probably settings) are recorded in the original Nikon NEF file as well as in the final JPG file, while I want the NAVE to stay 'in the know '. Some parameter or software feature causes the settings RAW to be stored in the original file of the NAVE. I can restart the NEF file in the editor, cancel the harvest in the introductory treatment of RAW and quit the editor. The image of the photo in the Organizer then returns to its original size.

Is it possible to prevent stops unwanted to the original file?

My problem is / was limited to the Photoshop elements 13 environment. It bothered me (still don't) that after the cropping of an original image of the Nikon NEF (ratio 3/2 as you mentioned) to a 16: 9 HD ratio and by storing the resultant final JPEG in a subfolder, the thumbnail of the image raw NEF took the proportions of the final image.

You can store the jpeg resulting, where you want. This has nothing to do with the mode of display thumbnails.

A reason important people shoot raw or use the raw (or Lightroom, same algorithms) converter is:

-because the raw data are NEVER changed

-because changes are stored separately from the data of the image (pixel values). This can be - in an xmp file (most common) - in the header section of metadata of jpeg files, without changing the pixel values - in the DNG file if you are using 'Save' - in a database of ACR (rarely no use, no sidecar xmp file). Whatever the solution, the commands edit (slider settings) are very small and some recipes.

-because they need not produce an output jpeg or psd or tiff file to apply changes to the image and display or print it at home. This is the reason why the traditional users of Lightroom:

-rarely files JPEG, psd or tiff output files, and if they do to send them to a printer, they need not keep them; they can produce them again, when they need to.

-Absolutely want to see the thumbnail of the raw file with changes applied.

And no, the thumbnail for raw files are different thumbnails of your jpeg versions if you add different changes in the editor. For example, you crop and straighten as well to adjust the tones and colors in ACR is what is shown, then you convert to black and white, and that's what will look like the jpeg thumbnail.

If you want to see the thumbnail of the file raw without changes in elements, you keep the ALT key when you click on the button 'open '. The changes will be transferred to the Publisher, but does not appear on the thumbnail; the xmp file does not update.

  • Why Lightroom5's copy of the RAW and Jpeg formats files in the destination folder?

    Hi all Lightroom experts.

I want to copy the RAW files of my SD dsra on my hard drive Drobo. And every time I did that Lightroom has copied BOTH raw and jpeg files

How to load Lightroom to copy only the RAW files?

Just a little disgress, actually the same problem happens in Adobe Bridge despite me by selecting only the RAW files to copy, but it always copied both!

    Any tips?

    Thank you

You can tell Lightroom to qualify alongside jpg FIRST separate photos, or treat the JPG as a file by following the instructions here:

Lightroom help | Set import preferences

If the JPG file is a sidecar, the JPG is always imported but is not displayed in your library module.

If you don't want to import the jpg files, you will need to select the RAWs, but not the jpgs in the dialog box import; or import them all and then delete the jpgs of Lightroom and your hard drive (easier, but takes a little longer). or don't shoot RAW + JPG
