DV5220us will not identify Seagate 500 GB Sata 7200 RPM hard drive XP

Hello

Upgrade the internal HD on my DV5220us of the standard 120 GB drive at 5400 RPM to a 500 GB drive at 7200 RPM and I have problems with the laptop recognize the drive. I did a ghost of the 120 GB image and then put the image on the 500 GB. When I install the 500 GB drive in the laptop, it does not recognize it. booting with the XP cd does not recognize the drive either. I've updated to the latest version of the bios, 24 I think, stll nothing. If I use cables and connect the 500 GB as a slave drive, he sees very well and it works. If I take the 500 GB and install in my Lenovo T61, it starts fine. No idea why the DV5220us does not recognize the HD Seagate 500 GB Sata 7200 RPM? Thank you!

T

No one gave me an explanation to the problem. I'm actually advise to stick with a 320 GB 5400 RPM drive 500 GB 5400 RPM drives because have also been reported to cause problems. I'm sorry.

  • New HDD in my Dell INSPIRON N5010 laptop, will I go to 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM HARD drive

I bought the DELL N5010 laptop about 4 years back, and currently it is more under warranty.
2 days back my hard drive crashed and could not start or install the OS as there are bad sectors on the hard drive has. I plan to buy a new hard drive.

Which one should I go for a 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM. I would go to 7200 RPM, as it is faster, but I read on the internet that the 7200 RPM generates more heat then 5400 RPM and my laptop is already facing heating problem. I had replaced the fan about 2 months as my laptop used to close because of the heat. The problem of heating has not changed, but laptop does not stop :)

Anyone using the DELL N5010 laptop with a 7200 RPM HARD drive and he's fine?

Any kind of recommendation will be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards

Thanks for the recommendation. The sales in the shop man also recommended the same thing. I bought Seagate 5200 SSHD(Solid State Hybrid Drives) which is still better than the conventional hard drive. :)

3d can damage the SSD or custody of drive?

That's why I want to know is - this safe for the SSD or not?

    Hello

There is no need in fact HP 3D DriveGuard for one SSD as there are no moving parts - this application is not relevant to a mechanical hard drive, where sudden movements, detected by the accelerometer cause the drive heads be "stored" in damage to storage media.

However, as your machine has an "accelerometer" leaving this driver installed will not affect the function of your SSD and prevents the Device Manager appears an 'unknown device '.

  • Satellite A135-S2356 - BIOS will not identify SATA hard

Hello everyone, hope you can help out me.

Got a Satellite A135-2356 opportunity, everything seems fine but BIOS will not identify SATA HDD, shows no disk BIOS downgraded to 1.30, not good, upgraded to 1.40, not good. BIOS has no change/test/detection of HDD/SATA settings options. Tested the drive in another laptop and it reads very well. Received the Toshiba (Vista Basic 32) recovery CD, but given that the BIOS will not read the disk, can't do anything. Cleaned contacts, not good. This HARD disk must be too large, or something for the Board of Directors.

    Thanks for the help!

    Hello Richie

To be honest, I do not think the disc is too big for your laptop. I can imagine that your laptop can handle with drives of 160 GB too. Unfortunately there is no public document on the possibilities of HARD drive upgrade. I can imagine that ASP in your country has information about such things.

It's also quite strange that HDD is not recognized correctly. Long ago, I had the same problem. Every time when I used F12 at startup disk HARD were not as boot device. Solution in my case was to upgrade the BIOS to the default settings. I believe that your BIOS has already the default settings, but try to do it again.

  • Computer laptop (Vista) does not take account any new working USB external hard drive

Hello, I'm under the latest version of Windows Vista Edition Home Premium on a Dell XPS M1210 and spin in the problems with the connection of my second USB external hard drive. In other words, when I plug the drive (a Seagate expansion 1 TB), nothing happens. Literally nothing, no notification of installation of the driver, no sound is played stating that the system recognized the device, no new entry in post working or disk management. I connected this drive on another computer running Windows 7 and it worked without a problem, so I do not suspect the problem to lie in the hard drive, but with my computer. My other external hard drive USB, a Maxtor Basics Portable 250 GB, works perfectly, but there more than two years. I bought the 1 TB Seagate as a backup and an upgrade, but I plan to go back now that there is nothing more than a big black Clipboard with a green LED clear too much room. What can I do about it?

    Hello

Most likely, there is not enough power for the USB port of your machine to the external device do recognize. As a test I would have you test the issue on another USB plug.

I recommend you contact you either OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) or the manufacturer of the motherboard if it is a machine of casting House and get the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard.

  • T61p will not identify new SATA drive

    Hello

I recently bought a drive Seagate Momentus 7200 RPM 320 Gig - http://www.seagate.com/docs/pdf/datasheet/disc/ds_momentus_7200_3.pdf (on sale at Best Buy for $99 - who could resist that?)

If the disc in the drive Bay, it works perfectly - Vista sees the complete concert 320 and it works without a doubt faster than my main 5400 RPM 160 Gig of support. However, if I install the drive as primary, the laptop does not start at all - the BIOS does not see the drive. I checked in the BIOS - the only SATA setting I have is to toggle between 'AHCI' and 'Compatibility Mode' and in each framework, I get the same result - the BIOS does not recognize the drive.

What exactly you are doing when you are installing the drive as primary?

The symptoms you describe seem to indicate that the disk is not docked in the Bay.

  • Seagate external HARD drive expansion will not identify Windows 7 x 64. OK in a first time and fine on Vista x 86.

Recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 Vista Home Premium x 86. Under Vista, everything was fine. Less than 7, my Seagate expansion (1.5 TB) hard drive initially was recognized (I have iTunes library I can't play to prove :)) after a few days using 7, however, I lost the external HARD drive. I get the error message is "software device driver is not properly installed." In Device Mgr, it says it's an "unknown device" with the yellow! triangle. "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) "appears in the details of the device. No updated drivers are available. Windows updates are up to date, nothing helps. Restart, reinstall, restore driver, deactivation, nothing works. Tried to update my BIOS, but it is already the latest version of Dell. Trying any other Dell Update, what it offers is the Download Manager, but not actual updates I select. I'm not allowed to use this player all of a sudden, after that it worked fine for a few days!

Specific features of the system are as follows:

Name of the operating system Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

Thanks in advance for any helpful info!

All this occurred within three days of using Windows 7 x 64, so I don't think there is a previous restore point to go back to. However, I would not I install updates to be rendered unusable and allow my system, and their insecurity. And, as stated in my original post, I have gone through the drivers to uninstall or disable normal, remove, reinstall, etc. etc. without help.

An update my original post, I finally got the unit of work, although not as fast as it was in Vista x 86. I did back up the device to a laptop from Vista Home Premium I have, let it load the drivers it needs, and then after reconnection to 7, it has been working well, but overall slowly in read/write functions and clicking on a lot more than he did primarily when operating. What I went through get this thing to work, I think that the currently loaded driver is for a 32 bit OS, and there is no update (again) for 64-bit. I leave it alone, because it is functional, and if it is not recognized after the next set of Windows updates, I guess I have to restore to a previous image.

Dell doesn't seem to have anything for her, and Seagate plans explicitly on their site that they don't provide drivers for this HARD drive while referring to Microsoft or the manufacturer of the equipment for drivers.

  • XPS 8300 will not identify data reader 5 to

I have a desktop computer XPS 8300, Windows 7/64, 12 GB of RAM. Boot drive is a 500 GB SSD, and there is a SATA 2 TB of data. I'm a photographer, so I need a lot of data storage.

I just bought a Toshiba MD04ACA500 5 to to use as a data drive (NO boot).

My XPS 8300 can see the drive, but insists on the fact that it contains only 500 GB of storage, not 5 TB. I did the following:

    • Run Diskpart from a DOS window.
    • Run Diskmgmt.msc;
    • Run the tool to partition a third party
    • Also, I went through Windows KB 2581408 procedure of adding a player of great size.

No matter what I do, the drive is detected as only 500 GB.

The XPS 8300 is possible to work with a 5 TB drive? If so, how?

    Thank you, Ed

Disks over 2 TB software needed to work with disks of large capacity and NEED 64 Bit Windows.  INTEL RST integrated in win7 is 8.x, which means that he WILL NOT see large capacity disks. Seagate manage it with the driver and utilities.

    http://www.Seagate.com/support/downloads/beyond-2TB/

INTEL RST 10.1 at least is NECESSARY for advanced format drives.

With windows vista or 7 install ATA mode then the microsoft patch is necessary before moving on to the AHCI.

    https://support.Microsoft.com/en-us/KB/922976

Once passed to Ahci and work, you install the version of the RST that works for your model.

Latest and most recent versions of the decline of the RST support more older chipsets.

The latest 15 13 or 14 or 11 or 12 may not work.

Before 9.x, it was called MSM (Matrix Storage Manager)

It changed of MSM to RST in the 9.x versions.

10.1 or greater is required for the GPT partitions greater than 2 TB.

9.6 or higher is required for larger than 120 Gig aka advanced format drives.

V9.6 driver Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) and above.

  • Windows Vista will not see Seagate 320 internal drive to format

I bought a 320GB Seagate (7200 RPM) opportunity and I'm trying to install Vista on it. The computer BIOS sees the drive, but loading Vista it does not show the HD as an external drive and ask drivers for it. The disk has been previously formatted for Mac.

Try to use SeaTools for Windows.  See also: Seagate Installation Assistance

Please note that the hard drive needs to be internally mounted inside the computer because Windows Vista will not install on an external hard drive.

  • New installation of Windows 7 will not identify the second internal hard drive

Attempted recently to upgrade a computer running the SP3 of XP to Windows 7.  Bought the new FULL version of 7.
Have two 1 t Seagate Barracuda SATA drives on board; Operating system in partition 1 of disk C:. second disc to store data only.

Several unsuccessful attempts to install 7, but with helpful suggestions, others on this forum, (i.e., update of the BIOS, re-formatting drive C to do a clean install, etc.) finally managed to a successful installation.

All right, except that it does not find my second hard drive.  I have the disks attached ports SATA 1 & 2, but the system reads them so much as the C: drive.  The second disc appears in the BIOS Setup and Explorer as just the C: drive.

Tried to change the SATA port for second drive to 3 and 4 with the same result.  It always appears as the C: drive.

How can I get the systΦme can recognize the drive, so it can be assigned to a drive letter and I can access?  I suspect that the reformatting of the first disc for installation probably erased some boot sector/configuration info.

A side issue: before attempting to upgrade to XP, I backed up my "Documents and Settings" on an external drive.  Now that XP is passed to the computer, can I continue to use Windows Easy Transfer to retrieve all my settings and info from the program, or who's going to screw me up?

Check if the hard drive is assigned to a drive letter in disk management.

Click Start, right click on computer

    Click on management of

    Expand disk management

Select your external hard drive if its posted here

Make a right click paths and change drive letter

Restart your computer, open the computer in the start menu and see if it shows then.
