  Actually tried to go through the Support HP to do this, BIG MISTAKE! Obviously no drivers available for this OS, was even directed to a page where I could supposedly buy a downgrade for Win 7 disk, which also does not exist.

  So far, I found a majority of pilots (touchpad, bluetooth, audio, etc.). Correct display drivers are still question, tried a few packets of AMD, neither one worked 100%. Think I have the correct audio driver, but it is intermittent. However, the biggest mystery is the chipset drivers with usb 3.0 stuff.

  I've recently updated my computer Windows 7 to windows 8.  I did a complete reset, so I lost all my other software in the process.  Now, I am looking for some drivers and return programs that were not automatically by windows 8.  Specifically, Miss me the Beats Audio, my fingerprint reader software which is integrated with this model and my dedicated graphics card AMD Radeon 6770 (I can probably find it on the AMDS website however).  However, the HPs driver windows Web page 8 is not listed as an available for my model (hp pavillion dv7 6143 cl) operating system and I was wondering if windows 7 drivers would work in this case or if I'm out of luck.

  Looks like that the PC is not set to boot from the optical drive, first.  You must press ESC repeatedly while booting to see if that brings up a menu of selection of Boot, and if so, who select the optical drive.

  As you can see there is not available Windows XP drivers, and you use Windows 7.

  Of course, you can search on 3 pilot sites but there is no guarantee that you will get all the drivers and if they work properly.

  The PT42KV has only about five drivers XP while the PT42KE has virtually all the drivers for Windows XP.

  I have a Portege P7220, bought in 2001 with Win2000. I tried to switch to XP, using the PCMCIA CD player I bought at Toshiba with the computer.

  Well, I found that "C:\windows\system32\drivers\symevent" belongs to an old installation of Norton Antivirus, which I got rid of. But I have not found a solution to the problem of installing XP without recognizing the external CD drive.
