DVD drive is dead - l need to reinstall XP Satellite A105

Hello world

My wife went on vacation in Hawaii, and while she was missing, its Satellite A105 (is no more under warranty with a dead DVD player) started to malfunction to the point where XP where freeze at startup.

I tried everything I could, but it wouldn't boot.
So finally I took a DVD USB drive formatted the drive with killdisk and tried to use the recovery disk to at least get the operational unit. Problem is that the unit does not complete the installation I get the following error:

Windows cannot find c:/bin/errordialog.exe

I thought it was the disk so I cleaned it and still the same thing, since I was a student, I had access to XP pro from the msdn network so I got a copy and still the same error.
I don't have a big enough USB flash drive, and the laptop doesn't have a floppy so I'm stuck with no way to restore the operating system... Needless to say that the wife is not happy with me!

I managed to get Linux installed without problem, but my wife wants his laptop back to xp and will probably hate me until I can correct what I did. Help, please!

TIA

As far as I know it s is not possible to boot from the CD/DVD USB drive and reinstall the operating system by using this procedure.

I would recommend therefore to replace the CD/DVD drive with a new, then boot from the Toshiba Recovery CD.

The CD/DVD drive is an essential device for laptop and it is worth having a what functions and trouble free work.

Welcome them

I have a HP Pavilion a6544.uk with TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-H653Q CD/DVD R/W drive, and last week it stopped working.

When I insert a CD or DVD in the drive, looks like it's looking, light flashes, but the computer cannot read the data, after awhile just gives up.

I looked in Device Manager and says "this devide works correctly.

I ran the Hardware Diagnostic Tools, which guard asks me to insert a CD of data within the drive, what I do, made the usual noises of research, ejects the tray and asks me to put a data CD in the drive. Finally fails with "No Media".

I opened the computer to check all cables are ok, looks very good.

So I think that the player didn't, but where can I buy a replacement?  This is a SATA drive, so I should just buy a SATA HP DVD drive, or should I try to get an exact replacement?  Googling for TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-H653Q don't bringup no obvious success...

    Hey guys,.

I'm having some trouble with my Satellite A200-TJ9.
The DVD drive has disappeared earlier, done case disassemble the filter and it worked for awhile, but now it disappeared again.
Tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling, but the drive does not appear in Device Manager, or even in the boot configuration menu.

The reader will always spin discs and act as if it does not operate normally, but I have no way to access the disk.
    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    Hi garrick7,

the drive is recognized in the bios?
Otherwise, drive might have gone... or some may be defective electronic...

If it is not recognized in the bios that the player could be dead. > change it.

If she recognized correctly may be a software problem...
Test it with a system-on-cd or try to boot from it.

but I don't think that this problem is software partner...

  • CD/DVD drive does not work - error code 39 on Satellite A300

    Good evening.
I have a problem with my Satellite A300.
I can't get the drive to function.

Device Manager indicates that the driver is current. But also says that it is corrupted "code 39".
I tried to download the new Toshibas website drivers but they are all come as code 39 cannot install. First, I noticed that it was last night when I was installing Norton 360. I got the cd it worked once then nothing.

    Anyone ran across this before?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello

I had the same problem and I found a solution here in the forum.
The problem is that your Windows registry database is confused upward.

You must first access the Device Manager and should remove the reader of CD/DVD from the list of devices.
Second, he must start the registry and delete the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters completely from the following registry key values:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Finally, restart the laptop and test the CD/DVD drive again!

    Good bye

  • Re: Need internal speakers for Satellite A105

I have a Satellite A105-S1013 laptop and need to replace the two internal speakers, which are slaughtered. Is there more than one distributor of parts to the United States I can contact?
A Toshiba recommended charge $ 45, plus $10 shipping, which seems a bit much.

    Anyone knows of multiple sources?

I recommend you ask the same question on Toshiba U.S. forum http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/tshb/
Maybe the people of the United States know better where to find spare parts.

By the way: check eBay US. With a little luck you can find speakers out there. I saw that many pieces for Toshiba laptops on eBay and you can get them for a few dollars only.

  • MY hafd drive failed. I need to reinstall it. I have the KEY but no cd facility

My hard drive has failed. I had to replace it. I need the Setup for Win XP pro cd. = (Key removed) key

You can get into trouble here. When you say that the old hard drive has failed do you mean that it is not even detected in bios? If so, there is nothing we can do to help. If it is detected in the bios there is a possibility, you can create an image of Windows of the reader.

  • My hard drive crashed and I need to reinstall XP PRO but my computer does not start on the CD

I went into the BIOS and changed to start from the windows xp pro disk but no matter if I put in the pro or the original disk, I get 'disk read error.  CTRL Alt Del to restart.  BIOS can see how much space is left on the hard drive, so it's there, and BIOS knows I want to boot from the installation disc, but it doesn't.  What I am doing wrong?

Hi Jade4142.Did try you go to BIOS and set it to the default settings and put the disc in, and then restart. There are many variables to a disc is loading. It could be the Platinum cd/dvd is defective, the disc is dirty, scratched or any black disc market. It you load on the HARD drive that crashed? If so, it could be that the HARD drive is infected? If this is a new HARD disk, you must leave the disconnected HARD drive, start the computer that lights up and looking for a hard drive. In this way the motherboard works independent of the HARD drive. The motherboard doesn't have a HARD drive to boot. Once you start without a HARD disk he won't say you no HARD drive or o/s found. Stop it. Connect the HARD drive for the sake of things a NEW HARD drive. Then start the unit go to BIOS and set to boot from the cd/dvd and then save and reboot. If the disc is genuine, and it's a new HARD drive, it should load without problems. He must ensure that the cd/dvd is above the machine to choose this path.click top and press the sign on your keyboard + and you'll see it move to the top of the list. If she is not at the top is not first in line to start. Just trying to help.

  • My hard drive crashed. I need to reinstall Windows xp sp3. I have my product key but no disc. What should I do?

3 years ago, I built my own computer. I tried to use Windows XP to not run in compatibility problems that occurred when installing Vista. I bought the software for Vista and exercised the downgrade option to Windows XP pro. Now, my hard drive crashed, when I get my new hard drive, I have of course to re install Windows, but I don't have a disk for XP. I must, however, a key product however. What should I do next? I don't want to install Vista if I can avoid it.

  • CD/DVD Drive not reading CD, need help to diagnose.

My CD player stopped suddenly reading CD. It has been a little flawed for some time now, but never had any problems with the playback of the media.

    Features: CPU - Q6600 OC @2.8, motherboard - Asus P5KC (Intel P35), GPU - Palit GTX460 Sonic, RAM - Samsung DDR2 @ stock 800 mhz, hard drive - TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS - H653F ATA Device

Here's a quick list of nonlethal problems so far:

    • Loudly spinning upwards at the start, causing sometimes windows to take more time to start (breaks on a black screen before the loading bar appears), while the player rotation.
    • When open immediatately closes.
    • Very slow to install programs on CD (compared to the old disk)

As a referance, is a replacement of CD that came with the pc drive. I fried the on-board network and the IDE port on my motherboard while installing a new CPU fan (located at the bottom of the motherboard), I bought this as a replacement a year ago and I pluged in a SATA 2 slot.

I recently installed a new graphics card and had to reorganize some cables so that it, I checked all the cables to make sure they are in place, but its possible that the connected cables are still loose, some futher information that I'll write below may help you to understand if it is possible.

The main problem I have is with it not reading CD, but the above can be useful for diagnostic purposes.

Basically the drive is detected by Device Manager and apparently "works", drivers are installed correctly and it reacts in OS for opening/closing of orders from status bar.

He just thinks it is still empty.

The problem started after a windows update that may or may not be a link the ancestral of the problem. I do not do drive but have used about three days before the startup problem.

    Any help is very appreciated

    Burpleronnie

    Hi burple,.

Looks like the CD player is a failure.

The computer can be set to boot from this drive first, and he is suspended because the drive does not respond properly.

I suggest to try the drive in another computer or another drive in this computer if possible.

He used to work. It comes from when the computer was around the age of 4 months. should have put in, but could not take the days off to bring it back to BEST BUY - 2 years ago.

Then... the CD/DVD drive is not recognized by Windows or other programs. If I insert a CD as Photo Suite III or any what CD/DVD, the green light comes on but no rotation and not even a warning to error.

Now what? How can I find out / know the specs of what to look for a replacement/new one... I lost the book in my move to Florida. I have tried all sorts of key word in GOOGLE and I am half blind and tired to be re-directed to sites that have nothing to do with my question.

Download XP_CD-DVD - Fix.zip and save this file on your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it, and double-click the file to extract the content. Find the EXE file that you extracted and double click it.  A confirmation dialog box appears when the script is done.  You may need to reboot for the change to take effect.

Works on XP and Vista. Good luck!

  • CD/DVD drive on Inspiron 6000

I think that my CD/DVD drive is dead... when I put a CD of reliable data in I don't hear a sound of spinning and I can't access all the files.

I see the 'TSSTcorp CDRW/DVD TSL462C' driver in Device Manager.

I tried to run the accessible diagnostic by pressing the F12 key during startup and tests data returns an error code 0F00:026 C, "there is no media present", even if I put a CD of valid data.

Finally, I tried to check for a replacement CD drive on the Dell Web site and there is no internal CD listed for 6000 Insipiron disc.

Are there any other diagnosis, I need to try?  Also, how can I get a replacement disk?

I tried the the registry fix that is always posted here in response to the problems of CD/DVD drive.

I tried to reinstall via Device Manager ("this device is working properly").

I have removed/reinstalled all programs using the player (iTunes, Nero, etc..)

It's extremely frustrating, any additional help/suggestions would be appreciated.

I am pleased to announce that I was able to do work - physically remove the disk, I noticed that the support of screws holding that place was folded outwards, probably preventing all contacts a link to the motherboard.

I hope that the system restore will speed up things a bit as well.
