E-book publication InDesign

Hello

I meet a client tomorrow to update their printed literature. As part of the update, I plan to propose the development of an e-publication to be published on iOS, Android and Kindle devices.

Without venturing into the tutorials quite yet, I wonder if this soultion is all achievable using InDesign - I'm sure it is, just need to confirm. Also, are there ramifications of cost with regard to the publication on these platforms? I guess that there is.

Thank you!

You can certainly.

Amazon have even a plugin for InDesign to create .mobi files.

If it's something you never offered before, then you might be threading in dangerous waters!

I would say you should get a working model together for their use as a sample and that highlight.

Instead of promising things, you may not be able to deliver.

At least if you experiment with a working model you ironing folds in your workflow.

  • Issue export book file InDesign to PDF, is there too much InDesign documents?

I work in a book file for a catalogue consisting of individual records. Each sheet is its own InDesign file because we use them separately, but at the same time have the version more up-to-date in the book. So this was our "simple" solution InDesign won't allow me to export the file of the book in PDF format, unless I have break in two PDF files so I can merge the file in Acrobat. It works fine, but I want to fix the original problem. I checked if all the files have been corrupted, but did not find a problem, then I wonder if there are too many InDesign file in the book. Is there a limit to how many files InDesign you can place in a book?

It will be more addressable RAM problem...

  • Books of InDesign and set up for a single page and spreads

    Good afternoon everyone,

I am currently working on an InDesign book that has about 40 documents + a table of contents.

This document will be printed and perforated, so I incorporate the space required to do on my drawing by we also publish this doc as an electronic copy.  Is there a way I can my unique installation page and I then export document for printing with setting to rip the margins for the punching of holes?

    Thank you

    Ren

Certainly more complex development for two-sided printing, but you might consider adding a slug or a further bleeding inside edge which could be included when exporting. If the pages are blank near the spine, purge would do with no specific provision (inside the purge is at the edge of the other page except if you divide the spread out). "" If you need to divide the pasta spread, you can use the script you will find at InDesignSecrets "Blog Archive" Pages Breaking Apart to bleed off the coast a thorn or http://www.printisrael.com/indesign/scripts/freeware/SeparatePages.jsx

  • Export book / document InDesign CC to CS6

Is it possible to export a whole book (indb) file and import it into the CS6 version?

The only way we found is to export each document as IDML, which should allow, in theory, open us cc. But who does not help for the book. Is there maybe a plugin or something?

In addition, export as IDML does not work for the document, for that we need, it gets stuck at 65%. I tried to open an older version (which opens in CS6) and exported cs6, but this did not work either.

So is there another way to move the file to CS6 while keeping the format and layout intact?

It there is no format file .indb Exchange, nor would it help since the .indb would still point to the original component .indd files. You must export each .indd to .idml, and then open those in the earlier version and save as new files .indd and adds a new book .indb file. You can use the Peter Kahrel batch conversion tool to make .idml files: Free script Batch convert/export InDesign documents. Peter Kahrel

  • Please, I was faced with problems when creating a new book in Indesign CS6!

Hello! I'm going to talk to you about my problem: I work for a COMPUTER company in the Brazil and we have developed a five - hundred page manual in Indesign CS6 software.

Then, we decided that each chapter would be an .indd (document Indesign CS6) and that these 27 chapters would be part of a book (.) INDB).

Finally, we got our book in the first revision (.) (PDF). In June, we copied our first revision in order to create a second.

We recorded the second revision of the book (.) INDB) in June 2013. Now, in September, we tried to open this book, once again, to no avail...

The second revision opens the first review! It's as if we have not saved our second revision, but I'm sure that we did.

So, please I would like to know:

    (1) what we were wrong in this whole process of creation of new books;

    (2) if it is possible to import a PDF in Indesign CS6, because our PDF is right, but we have our unchangeable.

I'll be grateful for any help!

    Thanks in advance!

Making copies does not work the way you think that with books.

A file .indb is naoual a collection of pointers to the individual files and make a copy, even if you copy individual files, not is not updated where the .indb showed up.

There are two options here. PACKAGE the book and again work package, or make a new .indb file and add your copied .indd files.

  • How to create flip book in InDesign, so it starts with a single page

Flip book out of InDesign is cool - but I was not able to find a way to create so that it starts with a single page, rather than a spread (with a blank white page in the front of the cover).  Any help appreciated.

Going CC Forum to InDesign Forum thread.

    Hello

Currently, there isn't a direct way to the cover of page one page in InDesign. You will need to "fake" it by filling the side left (first page) of the spread, the same color as the background of your web page.

Petteri_Paananen suggested another solution using eDocContainer. You can find more info here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2279180#2279180#2279180

  • Book in InDesign

I put a book for printing in InDesign and I got a little help from ned. I wanted to place a word for text doc, I was wondering is there a way to spread this to all pages? A better formulation of the wuestion, I put in the text boxes on the master page spread for the text, is there a way to auto connect all the text boxes?

Also, I wanted to know that if I could alternate pages, the printer needs them to be like this:

    Page1 - Page 80

    Page 79 - Page 2

    Page 3 - Page 78

    Page 77 - Page 4

etc... What I need to do it manually, it is about 42 spreads (84 pages) for a long time.

Create a blank document with a single page.

Go to file > Place and select yor word file, click OK

The selection will be loaded with the text, press on and press and hold the 'Shift' key and click at the top left of the page.

All pages work will be added.

To make the hologram, go to file > print booklet.

  • The broken book page - InDesign 5.5 numbering

I have known some very persistent and reproducible errors with book numbering in InDesign 5.5.

Any comments or ideas would be very welcome.

Platform: OS X Lion (clean installation), InDesign CS5.5 7.5.2 no plug-ins on the test environment

    Reproducible condition:

    1. Create a new book, activate the automatic page numbering (continues from the previous section).
    2. Create four new documents, each adds ten pages. Make sure Autodial is on.
    3. Add each of these documents to the book.
    4. Save the book.
    5. Update the numbering of the pages of the book.

    Result:

    • The documents are not page numbers correct display book in the book palette. They show the document, no book, parent of numbering. Each document is displayed (1-10) in the book palette.
    • When you view the documents themselves, the first two as expected from the document page number: (1-10) and (11-20). It is also the result when exporting to PDF format.
    • However documents 3 and 4 of the book take page numbers (11-20) in addition, as if they were every second positioned in the book.

    Tested:

    • I tried the automatic replacement of pages options for the book (start on odd/even) without change of numbering. UPDATE: on a book 20 document there are a few sections that seem to reboot as "pairs", so the number restarts randomly throughout the book. Same document and book options numbering, as described here.
    • I tested with different numbers of documents, different pages.
    • Update the numbering after each attempt, no change.

Resolve by trashing prefs & cache.

So, for someone else, stumbling on this thread, on OS X trash (or move to a backup folder, better than practice):

Your user home dir is $HOME

    $HOME/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign

    $HOME/Library/Caches/com.adobe.InDesign

    $HOME/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign

    $HOME/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.InDesign.plist

    $HOME/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.InDesign.plist.lockfile

Who cleared it, although I was running without modification known to all prefs, so this remains a black box solution.

  • Make a phone book in InDesign 5.5

I'm doing a phone book for the entire campus. I have all the teachers and staff in a spreadsheet, saved as a csv file. Then I put InDesign - put the fields suitable, and then tried to make several layouts and I realize is not "sink." I thought I should create at least two models InDesign to the Middle, then one for the back but not flow properly.

    Can someone guide me?

Basically in the middle of the book should like this (but with several pages that data travels to the last record)

    frontsection.jpg

Then it's on the back of the directory which is in alphabetical order. I need to format it that way I just need to have a record on top of the other, then put in a second column then casting to the last record.

    backsection.jpg

    Thank you!

Ah ok, you said never was given to you by merging.

In short, data fusion is not a feature as microsoft word where there is a 'next record', TEXT which allows records flow field.

Instead, data merging works by fusing the elements of the page, so if you were to merge the file and the options enable the functionality of multiple registration, you would see that several text boxes have been generated, but they are not threaded together... but the text boxes have record record one, two, three and then save...

data merge InDesign better suited to the production of data where a record is changed by page. Yes, it can make the number of records per page, but it's ideal for people who impose their own business cards many upward on a page; or people making photo heavy catalogs with amounts of Recordset by page. InDesign data merge is not built for the mergers of data online catalog style similar to mail merge in microsoft word to the catalog.

for your application, I would use XML, but the hostile user. There are CSV to XML Converters online (assuming that your database is not too huge) and a great resource called "a Designer Guide to Adobe InDesign and XML: harness the power of XML to automate your Print and Web Workflows" written by James Maivald and it's the only easy to take and run with book out there on the subject. There is another book Grant Gamble on the subject and no offense to him, but my brain was full of chapter three.

in the contrary case, spare parts plug-ins such as those manufactured by cacidi systems or emsoftware can help.

or should it really be a solution of merge data? the text could not simply be placed in indesign rather than using the data merge feature? I imagine that the data is already in the correct order, just needs formatting. If this is the case and that the excel file is available, I save out as a delimited TXT format tabs and place it in indesign and then put in shape with nested styles.

  • Should help the learner to build books from Indesign CS2 documents

I am undertaking a project using Indesign CS2 I was ideal for the metaphor of the book.  I have about 17 chapters, small InDesign documents, I add to a book. Page numbering works fine, the mastersheets apply correctly when the page moves right, face to face to the left.  Very cool.

My problem is how to get the text boxes to move with the master page.

I placed a couple of text boxes on the page master and used the copy / paste in Place on the actual page.  I thought it would work, but the text boxes are remained were that they were placed at the origin.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Bob

Unless you Place, not paste the text in text frames, will not do for you. That said, you probably really don't need frameworks masters at all. If the text block is the same size block framed by the margin guides you can autoflow text without the main frame and the ID will make new frameworks based on the margins, and if you enable the setting of the page layout, images aligned with margin guides should move when you change the camp if the margin guides change position.

  • Book Adobe® InDesign® CS3/CS4 SDK programming by Kris Coppieters

Hi, I would ask if anyone knows if Adobe® InDesign® CS3/CS4 SDK programming Kris Coppieters booklet is available in ebook, since I could find only version printed on Lulu.com. Thanks for your help

    Maciej salvation,

No, I never published my book in ebook. Don't know if it would be worth it - it's a terribly small market! I got my book up on Lulu mainly for my own use, like the note that I use when I run an InDesign SDK training session - so that I can quickly print some documents of good quality for my students.

    See you soon,.

  • Book paging InDesign CS3 - Mac versus PC

I have a book containing about 15 documents in InDesign CS3. I work on a Mac OS X and a PC with XP home. The PC did a great job of page - it has each of the chapters of the book pallate, both in the document. I use 'start page numbering on page x' to the first document in each of the two sections and "continue the previous document number" for each of the other documents. The problem is that when I go to the Macintosh, the numbering is not more automatic a document to a document, and each document in the pallate book now lists the pages in the document (1-28 if there are 28 pages, even if the numbers start at 73) and I need to "go to the x number" for each document to make it work. Then when I go back to the PC, it's messed up here. I'm on a schedule very tight - I would appreciate help with this. Thank you.

I think you need section numbering (I use an absolute numbering, if I don't have a book to try it with). Take a look at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/529175?tstart=0

  • Need to move book in Word 07 in InDesign 4

I am quite at a loss here. Has written a book in Word 07, using fonts, I worked to find to express what I wanted to and put graphics in Word documents and text wrapped around those. Therefore, as I have tried to import anything, I'm constantly interrupted by fonts missing problem (I copied word folder of fonts in InDesign, always stayed problem fonts folder), I said yes to the replacement of similar fonts, I said okay, yet pages appear with the missing text. In addition, it seems now that I'll have to remove the images of the documents Word and everything just import the Word text in InDesign and then place the graphic? I have about 200 pages into Word. I don't know how to start and organize. I start a document pg 200, import as many gaps as I can, then moves to a panel of book? I'm afraid so if I sync at the end it will be unformat all previous work that. The goal is to have the book online on a website (I've not yet started) where people can peruse the pages (such as the spread of left and right) and decide to buy and download, but also want it's interactive with music, etc and finally to be able to perform as well to mobile devices. Help!  I have looked everywhere Lynda.com, Adobe TV, with support yesterday with Adobe (India) and took a few Adobe course extremely condensed - all that was far too much unnecessary information to start practically. Can anyone help?   Thank you!

No problem on the creditworthiness of the answer. You are welcome. I'm writing a book on InDesign for FrameMaker users. Many of my suggestions come from work and information collection, I do for this project. In turn, I owe a lot to the contributors on this and other forums and lists, and I try to send what I can.

I don't know why I forgot to mention the site this independent publishers: http://www.thebookdesigner.comand also suggest a Google search for self-publishing. Although the main theme of the edition of today ( http://www.thebookdesigner.com/2010/05/belief/) may not apply directly for your needs, there is a terrible picture, that nobody should miss. I just ran across thebookdesigner.com site recently in a hike, I think, a post on the list of the techwriters to, Technical Communication community has. Empowerment of technical writers since 1993. Both of these sites and their lists are probably great resources for some of the things you'll do with your project.

  • Convert a single InDesign file chapters in book form

I have created a book in InDesign by writing and recording 15 individual documents (chapters). I also exported these chapters to separate PDF files. But I can't understand how, now, to create a book all inclusive. I saved the chapters in a book in Indesign, but always kept each separate chapter. In other words, I can't open "book" and see all the chapters that are displayed in a single document in book. I see no function in the Adobe reader software, or InDesign to combine chapters into a complete file, before the cutting and pasting. I have printed the 'book' myself, but now I want to export to another printer of the book. But I need it in total to do.

    Suggestions?

Why do you need to do this?

You can export the book to PDF from the book menu panel fly.

  • Some asymmetric rectangular objects print does not in any InDesign CS4 book

    Hi to everyone!

A book in InDesign CS4 has some objects in Section Geometry.

    OS = 32 bit Vista SP 2

As rectangular objects which are bit biased do not print as they appear in the overprint Preview in InDesign. I checked all the options as if there was a lock of layer, printing box unchecked, nonprinting value attributes. But no one works.

Exported pdf file of the InDesign file, the two are uploaded here.

All traits except rectangular are exported/printed PDF int file.

    Thank you.

Looks like some sort of corruption with a single form. Re-draw.
