E2200 Killer NIC issues w / 18 Alienware

Killer e2200 Gigabit Ethernet Controller in my laptop Alienware 18 reported the following in Device Manager:
"This device does not work properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

{Operation failed}
The requested operation failed. »

I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest drivers and have also run the application of cleaner Killer, but it does not solve this problem. For this reason, I can't use the interface cable on my computer network.

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro

I got to the bottom of this. Do not know why, after almost a year this suddenly stopped working, but it seems to have something to do with the drivers and Windows 8.1 more precisely.

I uninstalled all the Killer software and drivers in the Windows Add/Remove Programs utility, rebooted, run the utility "Killer cleaner" and rebooted again. I then used a seagoing pilot plant to a folder in Device Manager (using the 'Disk'). I had to do this for the E2200 NIC and WIFI of 1202.

Apparently, it is a problem common to many (not only Alienware) customers who have computers laptops and desktops with Killer E2200 desktop that have been "upgraded" to Windows 8.1. See the link in the post #15 in this thread in the MSI Forum for pilots that I used to solve this problem on the Alienware 18.

    Hello everyone

I am new to the VMware VMware community in general. So first of all Hello to everyone

I recently build a server ESXi laboratory at home for various tests etc.

It seems to be running, but I'm a little uncertain, I have my network card configured correctly. I use a NIC card four Dell MY-0YT674. The concept is I wish I had 2 internal, 1 DMZ and 1 external interface connected to the ESXi server which I attributed to the different VLAN switch.

As guests, that I have a firewall running with 4 interfaces and a windows with 1 interface server, the windows server simulates a DMZ host right now. Is has an IP address on the same network as one of the firewall DMZ subnets and received the same network as the firewall DMZ map

My problem is that when I connect a physical laptop to my transition to the same Vlan that windows server and firewall DMZ interface I can't ping the host firewall or windows laptop. Or ping the windows or firewall on the laptop computer. Pings between host windows and the firewall are all working well, so it is not a problem of modules/firewalls.

I have attached some screenshots to show you how I setuip my server. I can be something a little silly and really hope someone might be able to point me in the right direction. Also during my process of troubleshooting, I connected the laptop to each of the interfaes card NIC 4 directly to eliminate any problem of switch configuration but still got no pings to or from the laptop.

I would have thought that statically assigning the laptop an IP address in the same subnet as the Firewall interface and windows DMZ host that he would be able to contact the hosts when plugged into the switch.

The switch is configured with the port which connects to vmnic2 to carry the vlan 300 and also the port I am I have the laptop to also carry vlan 300 pluggin. Both are access ports

    Any help would be appreciated

    Kind regards

    Paul

Hust to make sure that I understand. You say that you have configured access ports on the physical aspect? In this case the tag VLAN is deleted by the physical switch and packages will never be passed to a group of marked port. Change the physical switch port setting (make a 802 1 port with 300 q VLAN allowed) or remove the VLAN ID of the port group configuration.

  • Free version Esxi5 install Nic issues?

I have 2 t420 dell which corresponds to the form of vmware for the free version, but something dell driver is not included in the iso for the broadcom ethernet NIC bcm5720 gb download?

If I get it from dell how I install it?

    Thank you

Thank you very much AP I haven't found the Dell offers an ESXi OEM CD but used being a manufacturer OEM would it be a problem?

Suppliers such as Dell, HP or other usually offer CDs that include additional drivers and tools to ensure that their hardware is fully supported to slightly modified installation. The core of ESXi is the same as on the original CD of VMware.

If I use the option 2 and pass the link you provided is as easy as to burn the cd and then put it and it will update in the home?

Yes, inject the driver into the image, burn the CD and start the installation. As you ask for an "update", you already have an older version installed? Anyway, in this case you will be asked to keep a store of data VMFS existing during the installation.

  • Design of new environment VSphere, VMotion, Storage, NIC issues

I have a new environment I design. The plan is to have two host 5.1 running VSphere. Each host will have multiple servers requiring HA. I intend to have an additional Buffalo storage server. Here are my questions.

So that HA using Vmotion, will it store the data store of the virtual machine on the storage server? Or the data store would be on the host where the virtual machine, and then if this host fails it copies on?

NIC how would I need per server for HA? I count at least 3. One for the network traffic, management and SAN. All I'm missing?

OK, so if I put my two hosts in a HA cluster and I have my VM installed on a separate storage server and one of my crashes VSPhere hosts will be able to restart my virtual computer on the other host?

Yes, assuming that both hosts have access to the storage and HA is configured correctly.

And VMotion is just for a scheduled maintenance?

Not only for maintenance, but also for example load management/distribution.

  • Dell R710 and ESXi 4.1 NIC issue.

Please bare with me, I'm a newbe with vMware.

    My question is this:

Got a new Dell R710 with Broadcom BCM5709 quad. Install ESXi 4.1 CD. Then, I created a virtual machine and install Win Server 2008 R2 64 bit.

In vSphere Client under configuration-> network-> properties (per virtual switch)-> network-> adapter details maps I see the Broadcom adapter. But in Windows in the Device Manager the NIC comes as Intel PRO/1000MT.

This is the expected behavior? ESXi support a pilot intel virtual any? or must we show Broadcom NIC.

If this is not the expected behavior, please suggest a solution.

    Thank you

    Welcome to the community,

what you see is expected and in design. ESX mask the real hardware and presents a virtual hardware to virtual machines. In this way, you are able to move the virtual machine across different hosts and even VMware Workstation, player,... without a lot of changes.

  • Creation of RAC nodes on VM Ware workstation; NIC issue

    DB version: 11 GR 2
Guest operating system: Solaris 10 (August 2011 publication)
    SE host: Windows 7

VM Ware workstation using 8, I am creating RAC nodes.
For each node, I need two network cards
NIC 1 ---- for public network (Plus VIP,SCAN)

NIC 2 ----- for private network (Interconnect)
For the configuration of network adapter, VM has the following choices

    1 bridged
    2 NAT
    3 host-Only
    4 custom: specific virtual network

These options are important for the creation of Public/private NETWORK card? If so, which one should I choose for NIC1 and NIC2?

    Hello

For the configuration of network adapter, VM has the following choices

    1 bridged

Bridged mode it is commonly used, virtual machines can communicate fully with each verse outside through the host machine. Type of network connection between a virtual machine and the rest of the world. Under networking networking, a virtual machine appears as an additional computer on the same physical Ethernet network as host.

    2 NAT

NAT is useful when you have a limited amount of IP addresses or are connected to the network via a non Ethernet network card. NAT works by NAT of the virtual machines in a private network of VMnet than the host machine. When a virtual machine sends a request to access a network resource, it appears as if the request came from the host machine to the network resource.

    3 host-Only

Network invited only provides a network connection between the virtual machine and the host computer, using a virtual NIC which are visible by the host operating system. This approach can be useful if you need to set up an isolated virtual network.

    4 custom: specific virtual network

Establishment of the network for your personalized virtual network components is a very simple process. Before attempting to implement complex virtual networks, you should have a good understanding of how to configure the network devices in your host operating system and guest.

These options are important for the creation of Public/private NETWORK card? If so, which one should I choose for NIC1 and NIC2?
NIC 1 - for the public network (more VIP, SCAN)

    Option 1

Map NETWORK 2 - for private network (networking)

Option 3 or 1 is recommended option 3, but none of these options will work.

    Hope this helps,

  • Mappings of vmnic to psyhical NIC issue

    Hi all

I was just wondering how ESX maps to vmnic cards network pyshical and if there is anyway to change that.  I have 4 servers with 2 onboard network cards and 2 cards broadcom.  All except 1 server have a vmnic0 & vmnic1 defined as the onborad and network broadcom as vmnic2 and vmnic3 cards.  The strange server ball vmnic0 and vmnic2 as the on-board NICs and vmnic1 and vmnic3 as the broadcom.  Is there a way that you can change that or is this mapping / allocation to occur when the system is installed or the network card is installed?

I'm not 100% certain about how ESX binds to a specific NETWORK card during the installation, you can choose what Teddy you want be vmnic0.  However, you can easily move things.  If you move natachasery on your Service Console, I had to first put the host in maintenance mode and then access the Service console via a kind of remote control as DRAC or ILO.  You lose connectivity to your VIC.

You want to use the esxcfg-vswitch command.

  • Alienware 15 R2

    Hello

I recently bought my first camera alienware at costco, the Alienware 15 r2. I was wondering why this laptop, when put to sleep is not wake up? All led lights turns on when you lift the lid of the laptop but the screen stays black and the only solution is to reboot the machine entirely. Sometimes the killer NIC turns off and it can't be activated, unless I restart my laptop, which is frankly a bit boring.

    OS: Windows 10

    BIOS version: 1.1.5

    Thanks for the help!

    Hello

Try reinstalling the video card drivers. You can download the video drivers from the Dell support site. Reinstall the drivers for the Intel and NVidia/AMD. Let us know how it goes.

  • Crush 3.0 > PCIE 4 x amplifier Alienware?

I mean, I know that the design current if pcie, but the new AMD/NVIDIA architecture could support the full support of Thunderbolt 3.0 for laptops?

    PCIE 4 x is 4 Gbps
    Thunderbolt 3.0 is 40 GB/s?

This 17 Alienware amazes me, because I do not use devices that I couldn't talk about it in the comments.  I got it for the 980M, 4 k, Creative chipset, Killer NIC, 6th gen Intel and nothing else... but it's really loaded

    I didn't even know USB type c is gen 2 3.1 I thought it was 3.0

Thunderbolt 3 is fast, but it's 40gigabits, not gigabytes per second. Divide by 8, you see that the Thunderbolt is 5 GB/s.

As Tesla has pointed out, the best way to do is to replace the 1 TB with the largest SSD HARD drive, and then let the mSATA SSD as boot drive. All the drivers and the operating system will remain unmodified on the SSD and you would just transfer your data from the HARD disk of 1 TB for the new SSD.

  • NIC Teaming ESXi 4.0 recommendations

    Hi everyone-

A very easy for you, but just need another opinion.  I have several hosts in my current environment of the virtual machine.  I add over several hosts.  Good grouping network adapters as well as the good deligation of the NIC issue.  What we have to work with-> 4 Integrated NIC (vmnic0-3), 4 network interface cards PCI (vmnic4-7), 4 (vmnic8-11) PCI network interface cards.  Not new in the world of the VM, but new to implement environmental...

The current provision in the existing NETWORK adapter is as follows:

vmnic0/vmnic3-> teamed for console Mgmt (vSwitch0)

    vmnic2, vmnic4, vmnic5-> available to the virtual machine (vSwitch1)

It was setup by an admin before vm and I do not have a warm and fuzzy about how the management console is associated with and worries me because in my documentation, it States a specific nic should be designated for the vmotion, correct?  And this isn't on here too, even if the vMotion is enabled.

What I would do is this way for team management console NIC

vmnic0/vmnic4-> where NIC card breaks down, PCI NIC is ready and capable and vice versa (fault tolerance)

Should I activate all the network adapters on the host?  Which would give me 2 integrated and available for the VM PCI 8.  I guess the network cards more better but sometimes too much of a good thing is bad...  Also is there a specific way to designate 2 just NIC for vMotion or is only a mute point?

    Thank you for your comments.

    > vmnic0 / vmnic4-> in the case where NIC card breaks down, PCI NIC is ready and able, and vice versa (fault tolerance)

Yes, it's better than vmnic0/vmnic3 (of one physical chip)

    > Should I use all the network adapters on the host?

Depends on what you want. Too many network cards will give nothing, except hedache if all VM traffic can be transmitted through 1 Gbit link without performance degradation.

    > Also is there a specific way to designate 2 just NIC for vMotion or is only a mute point?

Use NIC teaming personal - seam vmnic1/vmnic5 as active/active or active / standby for VMkernel on vMotion portgroup.

  • Invisible NIC for ESX but seen by lspci

This may be a simple solution, but I'm not find resolution.  Run ESX 4.0 on Dell R710 with a NIC four ports on the motherboard and four ports in PCI1 NIC, turning off the system to add a second NIC to four ports PCI2 (same brand and the seller as the first), fed by system up, but does not have the new network adapters plugged into what either.  VCenter brought to the top but the second quad-port NIC is not seen by ESX, but can be seen when I do an lspci | grep 'Ethernet '.  Esxcfg-NICS - l does not show the new NETWORK map either because I guess that it will only show these network cards known or used by ESX.  Is it possible to have the system will reload the drivers without restarting the computer for "Unknown device" NETWORK card ports and allow them to be seen by ESX?  If this isn't the case, should ports be connected to a switch device or network for the ESX to recognize that they exist in order to use?

    Output of commands:

    # lspci | grep 'Ethernet '.

  • ESX NIC labelling

See the attached jpg. Note that I have a vmnic10 and vmnic11, but no vmnic2 or vmnic3. I only noticed it today. Looks like than ESX random their fame. While it is an aesthetic issue, it threw me and now my documentation needs to be changed.

So is there a way to change the NIC labels to vmnic2 and vmnic3?

I also noticed a question a little simiar this weekend with another 3.5. When I added a quad port NIC (NIC 2port system), it marked the ports '2, 3, 4, 5', which I want to see... beautiful sequential numbering. I then stop the box, removed the card NETWORK and power on. I then close again, added ESX map physical and power NETWORK. Now ESX appoints ports "6, 7, 8, 9. Long story short (I was troubleshooting a NIC issue) whenever you add, it increments the labelling of NIC. Who is? Is there a way once the NETWORK adapter is removed, these numbers vmnic are eliminated?

    Thoughts?

    VI /etc/vmware/esx.conf and then restart!

Yes, the process is still in the database, using the amount of space between the sessions and processes and other resources of the system as well.
There may be several reasons for this:
1 session remains in this status as asociated process is not killed, for example session expected SQLNet client message. Customer at the moment would be an activity that he would receive the error and the session would leave.
2 PMON can do sometihng with this session. Doing little cleaning, then kill is issued and this session remains for some time.

In order to get rid of this session - ID opsystem kill command. If do not have rights - you ask someone who has.
