• Design of new environment VSphere, VMotion, Storage, NIC issues

  I have a new environment I design. The plan is to have two host 5.1 running VSphere. Each host will have multiple servers requiring HA. I intend to have an additional Buffalo storage server. Here are my questions.

  So that HA using Vmotion, will it store the data store of the virtual machine on the storage server? Or the data store would be on the host where the virtual machine, and then if this host fails it copies on?

  NIC how would I need per server for HA? I count at least 3. One for the network traffic, management and SAN. All I'm missing?

  OK, so if I put my two hosts in a HA cluster and I have my VM installed on a separate storage server and one of my crashes VSPhere hosts will be able to restart my virtual computer on the other host?

  Yes, assuming that both hosts have access to the storage and HA is configured correctly.

  And VMotion is just for a scheduled maintenance?

  Not only for maintenance, but also for example load management/distribution.

• New conventions forum?

  I found that I have save on this forum MUCH less since the introduction of this new format.

  The main reason is that you can see is more the number of views and replies to messages... that makes it very little likely to be willing to take the time to answer and help someone.

  It seems to me that maybe I'm not going to set up my display properly? or is there another indicator that I'm missing?

  I see that some Web designer like the nice look we have now :-) but I will be much more useful with a simple layout with more information...

  Not for nothing, but you are looking on the forums in the opinion of 'Content' with the filing option checked? Click the icon in the list at the top right and it does not show the number of responses and other information on the thread. Much like before (it's a little different but better than the thumbnail view.

  One is a map of support (usually ' 1') and the other is the '2 device memory '.

  What is the size of your card? It say 2 GB, the total space on 1 could show that 2GB (or just less like 1.87 GB)

  and the memory of the unit normally the total space is displayed as 879 mb

• Dell R710 and ESXi 4.1 NIC issue.

  Please bare with me, I'm a newbe with vMware.

  My question is this:

  Got a new Dell R710 with Broadcom BCM5709 quad. Install ESXi 4.1 CD. Then, I created a virtual machine and install Win Server 2008 R2 64 bit.

  In vSphere Client under configuration-> network-> properties (per virtual switch)-> network-> adapter details maps I see the Broadcom adapter. But in Windows in the Device Manager the NIC comes as Intel PRO/1000MT.

  This is the expected behavior? ESXi support a pilot intel virtual any? or must we show Broadcom NIC.

  If this is not the expected behavior, please suggest a solution.

  Welcome to the community,

  what you see is expected and in design. ESX mask the real hardware and presents a virtual hardware to virtual machines. In this way, you are able to move the virtual machine across different hosts and even VMware Workstation, player,... without a lot of changes.

• ESXi 4.1 with new 10 GB NIC - VMs showing only 1 GB NIC

  Sorry for this stupid question. I recently bought a new server with double 10 GB NIC cards and dual 1 GB.

  The esx server was connected to a 1 GB swtich. All of that great work.

  Now we just migrated the server to a new location where I have 10 GB of switches. Everything works fine.

  My question is why my virtual machines only connect a 1 GB.

  I checked the adapter network and see who is listed with a 10000 Full speed.

  The VMXNET3 adapter is the only available 10 GB adapter, you must use it to your guests.  Also, in order to use the adapter 3 VMXNET comments must have material v7.

• Suggestion for new oracle forums

  Hello, I have read several weeks ago aghiles asking for suggestions, I don't know if this is the right place for this requestion, but it's suggestions:
  (1) the problem with the forums is you don' don'tknow what you get. Please add an option to search only answers questions
  You can finde 25 responses on a problem and a) not sure if they were answerds, and if they have been answered if the answers were correct.
  (b) oracle knows if they were spotted as replied, but you can only search questions answered.
  
  (2) it is a problem for all forums
  Oracle is very creative, I think you might think about it.
  asktom. Oracle.com is a treasure really, even now, tom Kyte does not, but there is the need to consolidate these knowledge.
  When you serach a topic and you find answers 3 or 5, you can go and find all of them, but when you get 25 or more, then it is our idea.
  and a few times I found some questions are repetitive, and research more (asktom), you can find issue where they have a better answer.
  
  I had seen oracle using their own expert on the forums, so the idea is to create a fusion between the Forum and a wiki.
  A reason not to do this, the wiki and forums, it is with time, the wiki can become a copy of the documentation, but this isn't true, because information from the forums have some additional components 1) personal experience and opinion, I had found some database features that were not as they said in the documentatino and tom kyte said. (2) examples.
  
  So going one step more, the idea is to create a fusion between forums, wiki and documentation.

  The IDEA is to create a relationship proposed between the documentation and the forum and a common wiki link in this topic, comments and personal opinions, as well as additions and optional.

Finally people is not the strength, but is suggested, and oracle can affect if that's the right question.
  Small is important also because this way people can maybe read documentation before asking this way, they will have a better answer or they'll find the answer themselves.
  (2) there are the topics in documentation such as release date, there will be a branch in this topics.
  (3) the associations will be especially in research too, so you can find easily all the issue related to a topic.
  (4) once the answer to the question, the question is in the forum, there could be a suggestion for people who responded correctly to increase the information contained in the wiki related to this topic.
  
  This means with the time you have questions related to the documentation and wiki, were people will add example and opinions.
  
  the wiki could be this way: explanatiosn that improve the documentation, examples and opinions. This means that if you are interested in opinions and assessments (where the release of the product will be mandatory) you go to this tab, in the example in another.
  
  The idea is not to put everything in the documentation, but yes to have the /olink for the wiki where there are examples of people.
  
  
  Average production oracle documentation required will enrich by examples in forusm, because usually they are lost, people will use other forums, because generally, we prefer to serach in the becahse articles, they complete solutions, and forusm is and incognite, etc..

  We agree: there is potential synergy between the forums and the wiki of experiences.

  This is a direction in which we would like to go, but the destination is not yet on the horizon.

• The new common forum

  I'm so irritated already by habit of the forum of the jump to post the most recent that this common forum idea is probably the end of my participation.  I don't want to simply not come of winning hundreds of subject lines to find something relevant to the Mac, or constantly open threads that turn out to be Win only. I looked, but I'm not happy. I'm stuck with CS2, so many jobs aren't of any interest in any case. My plan to upgrade computers and software is on indefinite hold until our new Socialist man leaves, the new guy probably cannot solve the problem either, so what's a boy to do?

• E2200 Killer NIC issues w / 18 Alienware

  Killer e2200 Gigabit Ethernet Controller in my laptop Alienware 18 reported the following in Device Manager:
  "This device does not work properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

  I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest drivers and have also run the application of cleaner Killer, but it does not solve this problem. For this reason, I can't use the interface cable on my computer network.

  OS: Windows 8.1 Pro

  I got to the bottom of this. Do not know why, after almost a year this suddenly stopped working, but it seems to have something to do with the drivers and Windows 8.1 more precisely.

  I uninstalled all the Killer software and drivers in the Windows Add/Remove Programs utility, rebooted, run the utility "Killer cleaner" and rebooted again. I then used a seagoing pilot plant to a folder in Device Manager (using the 'Disk'). I had to do this for the E2200 NIC and WIFI of 1202.

  Apparently, it is a problem common to many (not only Alienware) customers who have computers laptops and desktops with Killer E2200 desktop that have been "upgraded" to Windows 8.1. See the link in the post #15 in this thread in the MSI Forum for pilots that I used to solve this problem on the Alienware 18.

• New Macbook Air - synchronisation issues

  I just pick up a new Macbook Air and trying to put it all.

  I have connected to my iCloud account but I have problems of synchronization. So far, the only note that my Air acknowledges is those of earlier. All changes I made to those on my ipHone or other Macs not displayed.

• ePrint record new user and the issues of access to Web Services

  There is not a single printer in my printer list... I can only add a printer, but when I try to add the printer, I only get error messages. Once I managed to get careful, but he toldme that email eprint was already taken (of course, it is taken, it's mine!)

  Unfortunately I do not know much about the MAC operating system, but you can check on hp.com/support to find out if there is a newer version drivers that may be compatible. On the question of e-mail address, you can add multiple printers to your ePrint account, but each printer would have its own e-mail address. • Reinstall Windows 7 Professional on a new laptop computer: activation issues

  I bought the retail version of W7 Professional (no service pack) back in 2010 in the United Kingdom. Then I used for a while on a pc dedicated to Egypt (can I have reinstalled and activated several times on the same pc). Now the HARD drive on this pc is completely erased, and it is not in use.

  I just bought a new laptop with the BACK and did the following:

  1 installed Windows 7 Professional

  2 installed Windows6. 1-KB947821-v31-x 64.msu (Windows System Update Readiness Tool)

  3. install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7

  4 entered my original product for Windows 7 Professional key

  I then tried activation using my product key for W7 professional original but it didn't accept it and I now have options to go through phone activation or someone to talk to.

  • Do I have to enter my key product new or is once enough?
  • It will work through phone activation and all these numbers or I need to talk to someone?

  Also the phone number in the activation of Windows 7 for the Egypt Assistant seems incorrect (+ 202 3776 4991) and I found another number (+ 202 3539 3333) online, but phone activation does not work and I can't talk to someone now (possibly, as it's a public holiday here, but also the Easter Friday). What is the right number?

  Suppliers such as Dell, HP or other usually offer CDs that include additional drivers and tools to ensure that their hardware is fully supported to slightly modified installation. The core of ESXi is the same as on the original CD of VMware.

  If I use the option 2 and pass the link you provided is as easy as to burn the cd and then put it and it will update in the home?
