E3000 and external HD problems

Hi all

I just plugged my e3000 and had all set up but when I tried to plug in my external 320 Toshiba HD to the usb port on the router, I get a series of flashing lights on the router and my wireles network almost immediately goes down. I checked the Admin tab on the router configuration page and I can confirm that upnp is "enabled."

I called customer service and they have suggested that there is a hardware problem with the router itself since normally all drive hard usb should work fine when it is plugged. Before going through the process of taking the router back, can someone confirm that this is a hardware problem? Customer support just told me what was in their manual and most of the time I'm okay with that, but I want to just make sure there isn't some other causing an incompatibility or setting that I should check if it works. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Try upgrading/re-Flash the firmware on your router.

Connect to the computer with the Ethernet cable to the router.
Download the latest firmware from the site Web of Linksys and save it to your computer. Open the router configuration page. Click the Administration tab and switch to the sub tab upgrade the Firmware through the firmware file that you have already downloaded and update on your router.
After upgrading the firmware on the router, it is recommended that you must reset the router and reconfigure. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait 10 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure.

I learned my first lesson the hard way.  'Assume' that you buy a new router that it will work with other new technology equipment.  Cisco needs to print somewhere in the product descriptions, their record of router there are size limits on external hard drives.  I got burned after buying a 3 to WD USB 3.0 hard drive that I can't use it on my current E3000 or their last E4200.  At least support knew this answer fast enough.  My bad for not taking the time to reflect, I search this site to find the list of external USB drives that will work with the E3000.

All I wanted to do was store multimedia files on a shared network drive.  I'm cheating the system now and using a shared drive on the main PC.  The whole point of my project is not not to have the main PC running to share media.

Before this old router of 60 day of scrap, has anyone had experiences on the use of WDs My Life 2 to external HD connection ETHERNET?

Someone actually one of these drives installed on an E3000 using win xp pro?  I search high and low here, but couldn't find a list of acceptable external Ethernet disks or the size limitations.

Burned once, lesson learned, don't get burned again.

    Thank you

If your external drive supports Ethernet, then you will be able to use it with your router.

Wired the external drive to your router using an Ethernet cable, then connect the router configuration page and click on the status tab and below click on the "Local area network" sub-tab and click on "DHCP Client" in the table of client DHCP list you will find the IP address for the external drive. Using this IP address, you can map the drive on your computer.

To map the drive on your computer, click on start - RUN - type "\\External address IP Drive", and click ok... When you are prompted for the type of user name and password for the user name and password click OK, now you should be able to see the folders that you created, right-click on it and select map network drive and click Finish.

  • Portege M800 and external monitor Dynadock question

    I have a M800 connected to a U Dynadock docking station.
I have problems when I try and put my external monitor as the primary device and have the cell phone as the extension to monitor.

    I am running Windows XP.

Are the only options it will allow: Clone, Extended (laptop is main and external is the extended option)

If I use the WIndows graphic option it does not put the external monitor as the main display (I check this option and click on apply and it remains unchecked)

If someone could help that would be great.
Otherwise, I would recommend is not to use the dynadock

Sorry mate but I still don t understand what you are talking about what problem do you have?

Is the Dynadock video drivers give you the ability to view a total of three screens.
    -L' screen of the laptop.
-external monitor connected to the video port on the laptop (if available)
-ewxternal monitor connected to the Dynadock

In addition, you can use mirror Mode and Extended Mode.

Mirror Mode creates an identical view between your computer screen and the external monitor
Extended mode extended Mode lets you split your display on multiple monitors.

These are the features that you can use with Dynadock

I write about my wife by Satellite A215-S4747 running Windows XP.
A few months ago as the built-in microphone and external microphone has stopped working.

This made me think it was a driver problem, although no issue in
Control Panel > sounds and Audio devices > equipment for all drivers.

I went through the Troubleshooting Wizard, but that did not help.
I went and downloaded drivers RealTek HD Audio (R2.67), but that didn't fix it.

I want to emphasize that this machine is about 6 years old, making the possibility of some parts break most likely...

    Hello

Sound works. Right? Well well, in that case I n t think that it is an audio driver problem.

First of all, I think you should check some basic settings.
    (1) mic device.
Go to the control panel-> sounds and Audio-> Audio-> sound recording devices
Here you check if device right microphone has been selected

    (2) mic volume
Go to the control panel-> sounds and Audio devices-> Audio-> audio-> Volume
Here you check if the volume is at max level
Additional button Advanced should be available at the bottom of the mic volume control click that it and check if the mic push in checked.

Have you installed some tools or software which may affect (disabled) the microphone?

  • Best practices for storage and backups on internal and external drives

    Hello

I have a Mac laptop and I would like your advice on how to organize the storage of files on internal and external drives and how optimizes it the backup plan.

From now on, my organization of file storage is:

I keep my most important files on the internal disk of SSD encrypted and less critical files on an encrypted external drive (format ExFAT). This external hard drive was errors, so I bought a new Laetitia 2 Tb drive that I formatted in Mac OS journaled with encryption instead of ExFAT, to replace.

For backups, I do not use Time Machine, but I use an application that synchronizes files between two disks. By using this application, I first sync the essential document on the SSD files internal to the external drive, and then I synchronize all the external drive to another external drive.

My question is, if I keep this Organization of file storage or I should, for example just move all my files, critical and non-critical for the internal SSD (I could make enough room for that) and then backup up the whole Mac with Time Machine? Or there is a better way to organize files in this scenario?

The second question is, if it is better to keep the Organization as it split storage (internal, less critical on external criticism) is what would be the best way to back up everything?

Thanks in advance for all contributions.

First of all, to the ExFAT is the problem, I suggest that the reader will just physically hurt.  ExFAT is perfectly acceptable as a format where Mac and PC can read/write.  You may have reacted a little leaving ExFAT for HFS, but you have made your choice and adapts to it.

Here is how I operate my backups:

I use CCC (CarbonCopyClone, $40, bombich.com).  It copies the boot sectors, drive, mapping, recovery Partition (these three are 'invisible' to DiskUtility for most) as well as system partitions and data records 'other'.  These other disks may be internal for clone-to-test-new-OSX in multi-disc systems or external for backup purposes.  The beauty is that you can start an external clone in a system crash, then CCC will be re - copy the active external clone on a new/fixed internal drive.

Encryption isn't something I know, but... If only the content of the system partition and data is encrypted, it * could * be OK for clone-back to partition-as-encrypted partitions.  If you clone internal external the external partition is active and copy the 'encrypted plan', while small adjustments are made so that the race could be bad.  Copy of the files on my partitions unencrypted change interrupt because they are individual files.

As an alternative, you could have a system drive that does CCC charge, let the clone encrypted and encrypted internal idle and just copy the entire map with the 'third system' active.

  • Mac Pro, Flash Storage, Dropbox, and external storage Solutions

I am considering a Mac Pro to a computer in the enterprise. I hope someone can give an overview and experience with the dilemma of using a computer with a small amount of storage on board, dropbox and external storage devices.

    Background:

Mac Pro storage on board - The Mac Pro has limited onboard storage. It comes with a 256 k flash memory and is apparently expandable to 512 or 1 TB. But, I can not even know where to buy the storage upgrade. For some reason, it seems even to be available for purchase on Apple's site. I can't understand how much it costs or where to buy it. I found a link showing how to install it, but that's all.

Dropbox - Dropbox is an important part of the company, or at least my business. The tricky thing is that Dropbox doesn't seem to work very well if this does not work on an operating system main hard drive. I tried once on a Mac Mini Server, and it does not work well. I read on the Dropbox site that it doesn't work so well. The small amount of storage on board available for the Mac Pro means that it is necessary to use an external drive, which is fine with me, with the exception of the question of Dropbox. Is anyone here from an experience with this problem.

External storage - the question here is as stated above. How to get an external drive on a Mac Pro, the operating system is not installed on, to work properly. I know that most people could read this and suggest to go to the website of Dropbox support for more information. I was able to do that and have nothing. Looking for Mac people who could potentially experience.

In short, how the hell you upgrade Mac Pro flash storage... where do you get, and how much it costs?  And second, anyone experience using Dropbox on a Mac Pro, where the Dropbox folder is not located on the operating system drive.

Thanks for any help that can be provided.

-Apple does not sell to replace internal storage.

-You can often find storage on eBay and other places. However, isn't that all in storage for some MacBook Pro model will work in the Mac Pro is much slower. One way to tell is that the MacBook you do not have a heatsink on them while the Mac Pro.

-You can buy external storage Thunderbolt. To access only a disc both an external case USB 3/disc is about as fast as Thunderbolt. Can get pregnant using the portable 2 1/2 standard SSD

-I did not all the posts here for the use of DB on an external drive.

Do not use automatic synchronization. Choose for yourself what songs to put and where to put them.

  • external memory problem E280 v2

I have a 16 GB external that I threw about half a GB of music on test and it worked well.  Now, I've added about 6 GB of music him and when the player is turned on, it hangs in mode 'update the database.  I searched this forum and found where if you reduce the amount of this help files, so I reduced the amount of files to only 14 with MP3s inside and always a problem.  There are about 1700 total songs on the count of the internal drive unit.  Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks, I ran the check, but there is a lot of files.  I then deleted large blocks of files/songs until she has refreshed correctly.  I then reduced to a single file that has been performing it and just put that one on the internal memory.  Suffice it to say, he now works correctly.

Thanks to all who have helped, as knowing that it was a problem of file/song, he started me on the road looking for whoever it was.

  • E3000 and IPAD: no INTERNET

    Hello

I recently purchase a LINKSYS E3000 and IPAD (Wifi only). The E3000 seeks to work well, it works with PC (Vista) Imac, (G-wireless laptop) as well as with the NAS server and also a Samsung TV.

The E3000 is connected to the Internet by cable. All devices have a fixed IP address and two address DNS allows you to access the internet.

    No problem.

But with the IPAD, I CAN get the connection of other devices, such as the NAS server, but when I go to INTERNET, I get the message no. INTERNET CONNECTION.

I tried several thing, reboot E3000 and IPAD. Compensation IPAD network settings and entering again. No results.

I tried several of the E3000 wireless setting, but without result, I have NO restriction to MAC address or IP restrictions.

All the other device will connect to the internet, but the IPAD doesn't.

When connect the IPAD to the E3000 and I with the Web interface of the router status are discovered something VERY STRANGE:

The statespage (right) normally gives you the ip address and DNS of the internet by cable, but on the IPAD, it was EMPTY.

When you open these pages on PC or Imac, it is full of information. On the IPAD, that this page is not completed.

    Help?

PROBLEM SOLVED: IPAD could not manage IP address range 169.254.x.x

I've tried for the last 10 days to fix the problem. I also installed the old G Linksys (WRT54G) router.

But NO result. When I changed the IP address of the router and the IPAD on 192.168.x.x. address and I work. Good to know.

Always very strange is that LINKSYS WRT54G and LINKSYS E3000 are not of any IP address in the status window.

When I changed the range, he showed in both. Very strange!

I used the 1.0.03 the E3000 and iPad 3.2.2 firmware.

  • Connection speed 2.4 Ghz E3000 and USB HDD

I use WRT160N for my internet and wifi at home. For the storage of the laptop, I use Seagete Free Agent 2 TB USB 3.0, which is nice by car.

So I desided to buy E3000 and use as storage server, router, internet and wifi.

I install everything, he went peaty smoot.

During installation, I noticed that 2.4 GHz wifi shows only max 150 Mbps, but 5 GHz 300 Mbps connection speed (I use wifi mini card dell 1510 on my Dell laption, supports the 2.4 and 5 GHz).

I tried different things to the 2.4 GHz to display connection 300Mbps speed (disable 5 GHz option, set the mode to "N" only, always use WPA2, etc.), but without success. When I connect to the old WRT160N, I can see 300Mbps speed of connection.

Can you advice what settings should I set up, so that I can use connection to the E3000 300Mbps?

The second bit I want to share and comment on is the access speed to the reader of the UBS.

When I connect to the reader directly on my laptop, I am limited to 32 MB/s (256Mbps) read/write speed (the laptop is USB2.0, so it seems normal).

Now, when I write of the E3000 max speed wifi I do is about 3 to 3.5 MB/s (24-28Mbps) and when it is connected to the local network (100 Mbps) speed is about 4 - 4. 5 MB/s (32-36 Mbps).

It seems slow, peaty compared to the speed of the USB. 5 GHz wifi rate shows 300Mbps connection 144Mbps speed/2.4 Ghz (which is 18 MB/s), so that the router should be able to keep read/write rate highter.

Is this a problem E3000 or this is the max I can get material in there?

    1. it's a router not a storage attached to the network power house. If you want a NAS with high performance get a NAS. The USB HDD is more for practical reasons, then for high performance. Drive speeds you see through the router are good enough for a device like this. Check what CPU you have in your E3000 and which processors they use in NAS devices that are able to provide data of 250 Mbit/s from a connected USB device and you will see that it is a completely different League...

    2. the 150 Mbps is a rate of 20 MHz. The connection uses only a band of 20 MHz and not a 40 Mhz. This is usually due to one of these two reasons:

    a. many pilots (for example Intel Centrinos) wireless equipped with 20 MHz preconfigured on the band 2.4 GHz. It will link ever more quick then 150 Mbps, unless you change the configuration of the driver.

    b. most / all new routers observe interference of signal on the tapes and automatically returns to 20 MHz mode, if they find too much interference. If you have many other access points in your proximity 40 MHz would mean more than twice the interference on the connection. Any other communication on stuck on 40 MHz channels would interfere with your communication. With a lot of traffic interfering on the range 2.4 GHz, you would see very low real rates if you forced 40 MHz in this case.

And your neighbors using 802.11 g wouldn't really appreciate your bandwidth hogging. Because of the limited number of channels without overlapping on the 2.4 GHz band a router running on 40 MHz basically use 2/3 of the total available on the entire 2.4 GHz band available bandwidth. The execution of 40 MHz in a neighborhood with many other access points is all just a terrible idea...

  • Internal and external drives hard. Vista and XP recognizes the limits? The partitions ok?

Hello. I had a few questions. It focuses on internal and external HDD. I have Vista and XP. I read a bit of info I would like to shed some light on.

I watched an external HARD disc. A Western Digital 2 to My Book Studio Edition II external HARD drive, USB 2.0 / FireWire 800 / eSATA. In the end what he says:

    The system configuration required

    • Available USB port, FireWire 800 or 400 port, port eSATA or eSATA adapter card
    • Mac OS X 10.5.2 10.4.10+, +.
    • Windows 2000/XP/Vista
Note: the 4 TB version works with Windows® Vista only. Windows 2000/XP do not support hard drives with capacities above 2 TB.

I guess it's true. So: If someone were to buy a 4 TB model: can you even plug the drive in Windows XP and then partition it in two? Or will it give errors or not be recognized?

What about Windows 7? I guess it's more advanced than Vista. Obviously.

I am looking for 3 Tb + internal and external HARD drive. I can not find them. I ' v looked on the websites Seagates and Western Digital, Future Shop and Best Buy, local stores, etc. Maybe I missed them. I think I can start to see well for the holiday season.

    Thank you.

I don't think that there may be a problem with xp sp3. I don't know with vista sp2 and 7 should work for you.

    BIOS update is also important.

  • WAP321 VLAN and SG300 routing problem

    Hello

I have a SG300 - 28 p as a main switch. Three WAP321 APs are connected with two SSID. A primary SSID is served on VLAN 1 and a guest THAT SSID is on VLAN 2.

The SG300, I have three ports of junction for the WAP321s because they carry VLAN 1 and VLAN 2. 25 on the switch port is a port of access for VLAN 2 since the guest network is served by its own router and WAN access. The main LAN and Wireless is on the 192.168.101.x network and the network of comments (including cable) is on 192.168.24.x.

Wireless connection to the WAP321, obtain the appropriate IP addresses (DHCP is served by routers - both are RV042s). On the main network (101), I am able to ping, access to the network. On the network of comments, I'm not able to ping to the router (192.168.24.222) or the 192.168.24.254 switch. However, it is not a problem if I'm on a wired connection to the router reviews.

This makes me suspect that I missed certain routing or configuration on the SG300 for this configuration. Any advice? See the attached diagram below:

    Eugene

Eugene, I think the problem is with the AP.  This is a clear indication of the fact you are wired in and have no problems.

One thing that may be a scenario is external causes. Your computer is exclusively wireless or you have tested while wired + wireless? Have you tried with a second computer is wireless only?

If you use a computer (s) strictly wireless, the problem is with the AP and can be somehow "mask" the network devices either.

I know things like characteristic of guest network and captive portal has some mechanisms of protection because it is not about the guest to access the network devices. How is the configured access point? Everything just with 2 SSID and a username/password?

I think that it is perhaps a good idea to look at how this Approach is implemented if there is any interference from external factors.

  • External device problem - "YOU NEED of PERMISSION to PERFORM THIS ADMINISTRATIVE TASK" & after I click 'YES' it says "DESTINATION FOLDER ACCESS IS DENIED."

    Original title: external device problem

Whenever I connect any external devices like pen drive & sdcard, I can't write anything in them, that they are not protected in writing! But I can copy things from them, but I can not cut & paste anything on their part in my system. I can only copy & paste. Whenever I try to write anything he says 'YOU NEED of PERMISSION to PERFORM THIS ADMINISTRATIVE TASK' & after I click 'YES' it says "DESTINATION FOLDER ACCESS IS DENIED." When I tried to format these devices, he says "YOU do not HAVE ENOUGH PERMISSION to PERFORM THIS OPERATION".

    Please help me!

    Sriram salvation,

Have you tried the suggestions in the previous answer?

I suggest you to disable the antivirus application and check the status of the issue. Refer to the following steps:

a: you should see an icon for your Antivirus program in the taskbar notification area. It is usually at the bottom right of your desktop.

    b. click the third-party security software, you will see a pop up.

    (c) in this pop and select the option to disable, click on it.

    d. now third-party security software will be disabled.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Please let us know if you need assistance.

  • Potential new user - several work stations and external hard drive

    Hello

I am considering the purchase of Lightroom, but wanted to run my script by the group to see if it works for me.

I have a desktop at home and at work, in addition to a laptop that I use when the place. The laptop is only used to unload the memory cards and do organize basic, not image processing.

At home, I have a database of image (XnView) that I use to organize my files, and then go to the bridge to convert my RAW TIF files. When I did work on my images, I use Beyond Compare to synchronize my internal image with an external drive. Outside we're going with me both as a backup, but that allows me to do more editing on my schedule for dinner. Any changes to the work is then synchronized to the internal drive to the House.

At home, the internal drive is designated as H (I use Windows) while the outside is the G drive. At work, when I plug the external hard drive, I put to come as the H drive. In this way, the files of database for XnView, residing on both internal and external, discs are loaded and XnView is none the wiser. OK, so that was a long introduction to my questions...

First of all, if I use Lightroom, can I use it on multiple computers as long as I use it never simultaneously on more than one?

Second, if I save the catalog on the internal H drive home, and then synchronize on the external drive, Lightroom to work just start and play these files of database unconscious because it is now an external hard drive?

Third, Lightroom has a built-in synchronization feature to do this, or I would continue using Beyond Compare to synchronize the two disks until I run Lightroom?

    Thank you!

Just to add. I use LR on two machines (sometimes three), there is no problem with the license, there is no activation and LR is designed for the Pro who obviously needs to be mobile. The images in the catalogue are on an external drive. These are also saved on my studio machine. The catalogue is also on the disk external and also duplicated on both computers. and saved on separate hard drives.

I work from the catalog on disk external when working on the top of the Tower in the studio, or as appropriate on machines borrowed in the field. Some would say that a catalog runs slower on an external drive. While the construction of previews, recording of the xmp data (or in my case direct to DNG) and import are a little slower with the help of an external drive, there is not slowing the work of real treatment.

It means that I have a general catalogue of all my images which is always up to date. It works very well without any problems.
