Economic construction - RAID and Fans Questions

I am considering the following construction to an editing room (badly used as reference guide). I don't know how many fans, if necessary, I have to buy. The case comes with 4 x 140 mm fans, and I don't mean to overclock the CPU immediately, but plans of OC'ing to 4.4 GHz in the near future.

Also, would a RAID 0 configuration agree with 4 hard drives? The disc only I'd be willing to lose risk would be the drive of files/export output. So, any combination of table 2 disk could lead to catastrophic data loss. 'Economic version' of harm recommends raid 0 for a 5 hard drive configuration, so it seems that 5 hard drives is a sine qua non for RAID 0. Any comments would be helpful I have realized recently that you can do with RAID configurations. Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with the case and do not know the air flow. If you are worried about the time, you can consider a larger case allowing a better air circulation. If you selected now is not very wide, so adding the fans on the side can be difficult due to the height of the fans and the height of the video card. The case has it air balanced, positive or negative? Dust filters are used on suction fans? There are so many questions, which make impossible the respondent.

When you have generated your system, measure the different temperatures at stock speed. If they are acceptable, even under a load of stress, it shows that the coolant is OK. Now overclock and do the same test. If temperatures rise to say more than 10 degrees C, then you have additional fans and you have to study the airflow more closely. • Adding a RAID card to help speed up the export (and another question reader) in first Pro CC

First of all, I read the Page Tweakers export section because that is my main concern is. First my questions, then the background and my current and proposed configurations:

Question 1: Adding a hardware RAID controller, for example an LSI MegaRAID will sufficiently remove the burden of parity management CPU on my RAID 5 software that the CPU will jump of joy and export faster?

Question 2: If true for above, then compare thoughts on adding smaller SSD for either a RAID 0 or less two RAID 0 volume volume complete HDD RAID 5. In other words, I think the purchase of four Samsung 850 Pro 128 GB SSD to put in a four disk volume to handle everything (projects/media, media, previews, export cache), or split it into two volumes of two disks of each and divide the tasks, or keep the idea of volume four disc and previews and exports on my drive HARD RAID 5 array.

The 850 are valued at SEQ write: 550 / 470 MB/s so I could get around 2000 / 1500 MB/s read/write to a disk four RAID 0 or 1/2 who, if I divided in two volumes to minimize the volume of read/write at the same time, if it really matters with these SSD?

The Tweaker page made some comments. A split is carried out the tasks between different drives, rather than a large effective RAID can really slow things down. Because SSDS are much faster than a single HARD disk, I think its more accurate than so I'm leaning towards the configuration of four discs put OS & programs on the C drive, media & projects on media on SSD (2 disks RAID 0) Cache and D (HDD RAID 5), file exchange & Previews & export on 2nd SSD RAID 0 (or combine the two RAID 0 and their functions).

Just trying to get a point of view here, since I have not bought anything yet. Any experience/stories, I would be grateful.

    My current setup of training:

My D drive is a software RAID 5 consisting of four 1 TB Western Digital RE4 (RED) 7200 RPM hard drives with CrystalDiskMark SEQ read/write of 339 / 252 MB/s.

The C drive is 500 GB SSD (Samsung 840 (not Pro) and fact 531 / 330 MB/s.) My OS, Program Files and Page file are on C and media data/files/projects, etc. that are all about the RAID drive.

    Problem:

Current configuration allows for smooth installation, just export seems slow, usually taking between two and two and a half times the video length to export. Thus, a 10 minute video takes 20-30 minutes for export. 15 minute video can take 30-40 minutes to export. The first 10% of the export of re-encoding takes less than a minute (seems fast), but it becomes slower when the final 10 or 20 percent may hang for several minutes as my system is running out of steam. So, where's the waste?

I activated the hardware acceleration (because the GPU hack my GPU is not listed) and it can break through to 25% use a few times and eat up to 600 MB of VRAM (I have 2 GB of VRAM), otherwise it is slowed down export set. The CPU can boost at 50%, but it seems either too busy.

Our calendar is simple with two video and two audio streams (a little music and especially the voices), with simple transitions (jump cuts or cross dissolves). Sometimes, we fast correct color, so that could use the GPU? Also, given that we are filming in 1080 P 60 p and 1080 export 29.97 FPS, I think who is scaling and using the GPU. I know that without the GPU, it takes much longer. I excluded buy a faster GPU because it doesn't seem to be breaking a sweat. I just need to know if my system is a bottleneck at the level of the disk hard because I am using software RAID and my disks are slow and hardware RAID will considerably reduce the processor load so it can export more quickly.

Our files are not huge in nature. Most of our clips are several MBs each. Total files in the project are between 5 GB and 10 GB for each video with Windows Media File export being 500 MB to 1.2 GB on average. Look using Panasonic Camcorders, so the original files are AVCHD, I think (.) MTS files?).

    Considerations:

    1. I think to buy (and future proofing) a LSI Logic MegaRAID 9361-8i is 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA (because some SSD current can exceed the standard 6 Gbps).

    2. I will not replace my current HDD RAID 5 as not in my budget to spend 6 or more large SSD. These discs are more important to me for temporary storage because I delete files saved once. I don't mind a few smaller SSD inexpensive if they can make a significant difference for editing and export.

I can only guess my RAID HDD is slow but the CPU is burdened by parity. I guess running RAID 10 would not really help.

OK, after overload of information on everything I tried (free), which might be my answer here. I went from codecs to export. When you use Windows Media File, Premiere Pro seems chugging along much slower than when you use the h.264 (not h.264 Blu - Ray). I don't know if it's because Microsoft has found a way to break it or what. But I'm the CPU usage of 70-85% on the 2 Pass of 2 as well as the use of the memory of 40% (or 12 GB). It exported in 14 minutes. Woo - hoo. I then did a similar test using Windows Media File. It took 31 minutes to export. The CPU has spent much of his time in the 30%, especially down in the 1930s mid-1940s with spike for memory usage was only 24% to 35% and 50%. Since then, I've read how h.264 codec is 'plu' for online files. It compresses better with less compression artifacts. He seems better, etc. Well, they both seemed on the same thing for me. I play both on my TV 70 "before I could comment further. In the future, I will consider a RAID controller and upgrade the HDDs to SSDS.

  • Problems of excessive noise and fan performance.

(I found a few similar posts, none seem to have any kind of resolution. I already submitted details to the comments for OS - X and MacBook Pro, because I know that Apple doesn't really care these forums.)

I'm computer LITERATE in a company with more than 40 Macs. Most are 15 "and 13" MacBook Pro retinas, with some older MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Mac mini. Almost all have had many problems of performance and especially complaints relating to noise fan since the upgrade to El Capitan.

All Macs seem to rotate at about twice their original fan speed, even at idle with nothing else running in the foreground. If something - it is actually worse with time and not better. Some of them seem to be entering a mode "overheating" and the limitation of the CPU frequently, even with no real warning to the user. We receive complaints from fans go "full throttle" and not something unusual applications of grinding to a halt, while the activity monitor recount. Even these days - I'm writing this, my MacBook Pro runs only Safari and mail and fans just 15 "kicking until probably at 80% for no apparent reason. The CPU load is only about 8% currently according to activity monitor.

The usual "fix" to a SMC reset and a clean install of the operating system seems to have no effect. We spent a lot of time in recent weeks reset wiping of Macs to try to resolve these problems. They are located on machines that have been almost completely unless they were actually under heavy load (such as virtual computers running or doing graphics/video editing), with the only change being an 'upgrade' to El Capitan.

New - the same questions and complaints are reported in almost all of our Macs. I noticed similar problems on my MBP of House. I have a Mac Mini in my office who spends just Safari to view a network monitor page. It used to be silent and cycles now the fan and turns off often.

At least while taking into account what is actually run on them, as well as information from the activity monitor, it does not appear that the CPU is overheating. It seems that something has gone wrong with the heat in recent management, as El Capitan assign a lower threshold than before well. I am everything to keep these systems cool, especially since Mbit/s in particular seem to run pretty hot anyway, but when the noise of the fans like a small jet taking off-it is a problem for many people.

If anyone has found a solution to this, I'd love to hear it. Otherwise - if you are having similar problems - please send to Apple Feedback then perhaps they will at least look at or respond.

If you run any antivirus Mac remove the system. A 3rd party cleaning or maintenance or utility network, any 3rd party firewall they are infamous resource pigs and Mac AV is responsible for a good part of mac OS that any other type of software while offering no protection against anything like that.

systems running 10.11 with 4 GB of RAM or less will spend a good amount of time cached and if this is the case look into upgrading your RAM, if it's an option.

If this isn't the case reset the SMC (which you did) followed by a PRAM reset as outline in this paper.

  • DS3300 Design - RAID and logical drive configuration

    Hello

I'm setting up a dual controller DS3300 with VMWare ESX 3.5 hosts x 2 connection using the iSCSI Software initiator.  I have a question about setting up the optimal training.  What I read I should set up several logical drives, and then assign each player owner of another favorite controller logic.  I have 12 300 GB drives, so I thought I would create a RAID5 11 with 1 spare drive Bay.  I would create logical units of 4 x size equal and each of the 4 controllers will then assign that traffic is spread in the controllers for optimal performance.

A1 and B2 to go to a different physical switch (vlan) and B1, A2 go to another.  Each ESX Server has 2 vswitches each with a single network adapter with each going to a different physical switch.

Can anyone tell if the RAID and the design logical drive is the best way to go for a flow optimal iSCSI?  I'm not asking about this type of raid to use - I don't need a raid 1/0 or a mixture of performance - I'm afraid only for best performance of iSCSI for RAID5.  Can I create several RAID5 arrays and logical drives or simply several logical drives?

    Thank you

    Ian

If you have 2 controllers in your storage space then the best config (with 12 disks) must be set up 2 bays of R5 - each of them has its owner controller.

Included logical readers will have the same owner under the parent array controller. Logical readers could be about 300-500 GB on the size. A big R5 isn't the best practice because of the likelihood of the failure of the double disc (for example during the time of reconstruction). A spare part is a must here.

On Esx site I would keep everything simple - 2 network cards, a vmkernel iscsi port. More complexity you will get no more flow (with storage).

Just for notice - DS3000 series gives quite more random ios on R10 in comparison to the R5.

Anything can be corrupted on your MacBook Pro, but from what you say, it seems that the cable drive/SSD/flash memory/SATA hard was seriously damaged. Him "question mark" means that your Mac is unable to find any bootable device, meaning that it does not yet detect your OS X drive.

You should make a backup of your files (if you can still do it) and take the Mac at the Apple Store or dealer to get a diagnosis. There may be several damaged parts.

  • Satellite M70: access to the data of temperature and fan

While we did not have these problems with other laptops, we found a way to access the data of temperature and fan on a Satellite M70.

A friend has tried this on Linux but have failed and also with XP I do not find a way to read data (current temperature of the CPU, or State of the fan-cooler).

Given that I noticed several irregularities when using (the fan is that the CPU load is very minimal), work sometimes is going to be a little uncomfortable.

  • Radiator and fan on Thinkpad T60 T61

    Hello

Its time to change the fan on my Thinkpad T60. I thought to replace the entire cooling system (fan and heat sink). Is it possible, in terms of compatibility, use a T61 radiator and fan? I mean having a FRU:41V9932 and FRU:42W2820. I've heard that T61 cooling system, is better than the T60, his cooler etc and more completely.

  • WinXPsysytem: The upgrade and have questions

Have a dell e521 that I train and some questions.  Have already updated to 3 GB of memory on x 86 operating system.  Bios version active what 1.1.6 4/7/2007.  Have checked Dells site and they offer a version of bios 1.1.11 released on 04/09/2007.  Having checked their previous versions and mine is not yet in there.  Don't know if I should go with the 1.1.11 version or stick with what is on mine, any suggestions?  Also, I put in a 500 GB seagate HDD.  Have a 80 GB drive there now which is pretty maxed out.  Playing with the idea to put xp pro on the 80 GB and using the programs and storage 500 GB.  I would like to know if it's a good idea or not!  Could use pointers and how much others who have more experience I have of course on my best options for installation.  for performance and features.  Thank you in advance, Ron.

It's sad to say, you should probably have spent your money on a new computer rather than on the RAM and a new hard drive.  Windows XP (you posted in a forum of Windows XP, that's what I assume you have) will be supported is no longer starting in April 2014. This means no more security updates and therefore increases the vulnerability to malware.

That said, your system now-updated can probably support Windows 7. You must run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to check the remaining material.

As you say, Dell does not list the intervening versions of BIOS with 1.1.4, 1.1.10, so unless someone at Dell or in the Dell forums can tell you what "improvements" in your version or with your version 1.1.10, you have no way of determining that. Based on omissions, I think there were only minor changes in these versions.

Normally, I would leave the BIOS alone.  Note, however, that Dell "recommends" 1.1.10 be installed because
The update contains improvements or changes that will keep your system current and compatible with other system modules (firmware, BIOS, drivers and software) software.
If you want to stick with XP, I would leave the BIOS alone. If you want to install Windows 7 (assuming that there are Windows 7 drivers for all your hardware), I would Setup 1.1.11.  Be sure to read and follow instructions carefully.

BTW, it's a little surprising that you only have a 80 GB drive.  CNET review of the Dimension E521 said he came with a 320 GB drive.
