Ejection in any SECURITY USB Ext. HDD problem

O/s is Win7 x 64.  Ext. HDD is Western Digital 160 GB used as storage device. Work properly, until you tryto safely eject using the preferred method of lower right task bar.  Pop up keeps repeating that this device is used, which is not.  Other ext storage devices. DO USB eject safely from Win7.

The same unit in question (WD 160 GB) ejects safely during Win XP on another PC.

Thanks to all those who can help you.

    Hi Itay,

Thanks for posting on Microsoft Community.

I understand that you get this error "the application \Device\HarddiskVolume4\Windows\System32\svchost.exe prevents this device to be stopped. Close the application and then try to stop the device again. "Whenever you try to eject the external hard drive.

You may get this message if Windows was started with the inserted disc. Try to wait until Windows is completely loaded before inserting it, then if you try to eject it doesn't work.

You can try the suggestions below and check if it helps.

    1. Download Process Explorer from the link below http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653
    2. Click search, find handle or DLL (Dynamic Link Library) in the tool menu.
    3. Type the drive letter of the USB device in the handle or DLL substring text box and press the search button.
    4. Find the process and its PID (process identifier) in the following box.
    5. In the tree of the system process, find the process according to find it handle or DLL dialog box.
    6. Press Ctrl + H to display the handles in the view in the lower pane.
    7. Search for the file by the drive letter and right click, choose Manage close.

  • Access remote USB to E3000 problem?

    Hello

I recently got the E3000 router because it has USB and is simultaneous dual band router.

It is connected to the ATT modem + router. I disabled wireless 2wire ATT modem and connected the linksys router.

Now, after much playing with it, I have configured the USB key to work and being visible on the network, Media Server also seems to work very well.

Now I need help with the following:

Now what I'm trying to do is have remote access to my USB connected hard drive on the internet.

Also, I want to put the USB HDD as media download drive. For example if I'm downloading a large file or download torrent I want it either directly into the USB connected HDD.

Also in my computer/network, I have the disc visible as a computer and when I double click on it, it ask me for the admin and password user id and I have access available files, that I do not understand why is this? Because the same thing can be achieved by "map network drive" then what is the difference between the two?

    Waiting for answer

    Thanks for the help guys

For your 1st question: Yes, the problem is with your configuration. The E4200 needs direct access to the internet, but in this case it is "hidden" behind a NAT (your att gateway) device. You must find a way to dumb down your front door so that it becomes just a modem.

If you have att u-verse, then you must look for a story on your gateway 2wire called demilitarized zone more and put in place to allow your router to be seen on the internet that will allow you to remote access to the storage unit.

As for your 2nd question: there is no way to do it. Your pc should be while you download files.

    (Q) my ext hdd is in - the red zone in 'Computer' in the lower right corner, when I click on it...

    (1) this is what worry?        (2) how do I get it out of the 'red zone '?                  It is actually said "Local disk (e :)) 13.5 GB free of 149 GB" (which includes a "System Image" - if I remember correctly). To do this, "incramental' back-up, I think...

    Thank you, Chris.

We use the term "housekeeping."  It's when you wipe the hard drive

Formatting seems ok, but actually considered clearing, repartition the drive.

    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Disk_formatting

I suggest you do a normal backup and then differential periodically.  This avoids that the difference between the initial backup and changes made to the files.  If you are happy with the changes, do the differential backup.  When you make other changes and that you do not have the old files, it is safe to do a new differential backup and delete the previous.  This saves disk space.

Description of full, incremental, and differential backups

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/136621/en-us

You can save the backup on DVD files and store them still freeing up hard drive space.  In addition, it is recommended to store them in your home disaster (earthquake, fire, etc.).  Ex: Safe, best friend or the relative's House.

Install it on your new laptop using your serial number.

  • Project of restoring links on the other computer, with the ext hdd same source files

I was working a project with all the source files for the project on an ext hdd. This machine in particular, then crashed and I have more access to it. data recovery after extensive (and expensive), I got the program from the old pc files and some of them include the first pro files. Is it possible to link these data, creation of a new pro, always the same machine using the ext hdd with the source files? Thank you

That's the advantage of keeping your external media.

Just open the project first on the new computer.  So you should not need to be reprinted media if the external drive has not changed its name from Volume and is saved as the same drive letter (PC).

Worst case, when you open the project of the missing file dialog box will open.  Make sure to repeat others is checked and navigate to the folder / outside looking.

Once reconnected, save the project and then...

go and drop your auto save preferences to the external location, so you don't have to retrieve project files crashed in the future!

With the USB key or external hard drive, it may depend on what you have installed on these readers whether if a winning process accesses these files, for example indexing can be current or you may have installed a program, as opposed to just the data on the disks

When I connect it to a usb 2.0 port, I get the message "USB HDD high speed plugged into a hub non-hi-speed usb", and the unit remains low-speed (12 Mbps) USB. I have connected the 500 GB HDD (PX1269E - 1 50) to my Satellite M40 and it works fine. It works with USB 2.0.
Guys, I think there is something wrong with the controller software or the registry is damaged. Maybe an update is necessary.

PS: I have not installed the additional software on the supplied CD. The operating system automatically acknowledged.

@parabolix: using SP1. Try to install whole MS and SP2 updates.
