  You can skip one of the two steps, as I explained in this blog post, but only if you both Correct/Incorrect responses. If you want a different behavior, you will need to create custom question slides. In 6 Captivate, you can insert a button shape on a slide in question, which could then simulate this behavior, but in CP5.5 no interactive objects can be added. You will find a large number of use cases for the slides in question on my blog too.
