Embedded PL/SQL gateway or HTTP Server?

I can't find an ad that describes the advantages and disadvantages for the choice we have now for the web server. I guess it is also driven by how many connections and bandwidth, but development with one or a few users, what are the advantages over each choice?

Phil

Hello

The pros of each are described in the documentation of Oracle here...

http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/E14373_01/install.32/e13366/overview.htm#CHDCEJIE

It is not a written document massively useful, but should give you pause.

For what it's worth, I'd always go for the HTTP server. EPG is acceptable for laptops and other computers, but even then I wouldn't go there.

See you soon

  • I can't change the Embedded gateway PL/SQL to Oracle HTTP Server/Apache?

    Hello world

Can I change an installation 10.2.0 for Oracle Application Express 3.2.1.00.10 running away from the Embedded PL/SQL gateway on the Oracle Apache HTTP Server? I'd like to be as transparent as possible to avoid a failure if I can. What I have to reinstall everything and simply import a backup or is there a way to switch between http servers? I couldn't find anything on "switching" in the user's guide, so I was hoping that one of you may successfully tried this.

Thanks a lot for your help!
    m.

It should be simple with a very little downtime. Test dev system before you interrupt the prod system.

    1. install the SST
    2 configure the SST
    3. configure the plugin mod_plsql
4 stop the embedded PL/SQL gateway

Inform users about the new URL.

All of the above steps are documented in the documentation.

    Hi Bob Larsen.

The EPG (Embedded PL/SQL Gateway) option is available for Oracle Database 11g R1 and Oracle Database 11 g R2
versions of current database as shown in the installation for APEX 4.0 documentation.

The online installation guide can help:

    (1) on the PL/SQL gateway:

  • is it possible to let the Embedded PL/SQL gateway to listen on port 80?

I installed 3.1.2 on XE apex. I tried to let it listen on 80, but it doesn't work. Is it possible to listen on 80? If Yes, what additional step I have to do?

    I tried this command

    Any comments to http://daust.blogspot.com/2006/01/xe-changing-default-http-port.html:

It seems that you are working under Linux (os root user). It is not easy to use a port below 1024 for Oracle because it takes the oracle process runs as root. It is not advisable.

    The bottom line:
-You can easily change the port on Linux, but not below 1024!
-You can configure a plain Apache as proxy in the 10th, it is advisable anyway.

For the configuration of Apache as proxy to the XE, you can find more information here:

  • 3 HTTP server. which one to choose?

I installed db11gR2 and APEX updated to version 4 on my server Linux with EPG.

There are 3 types of HTTP Server

    Oracle HTTP Server
    Embedded PL/SQL gateway
    APEX Listner

I installed EPG, but after installing it, I found and I read that

The EPG is practical for small configurations. The EPG is not recommended for the largest production scale use case or the Internet facing applications.

    and still

For this reason, it is not recommended to use the PL/SQL gateway integrated for applications that run on the Internet. In addition, the embedded PL/SQL gateway does not provide the same flexibility of configuration and logging detailed as Oracle HTTP Server mod_plsql.

So I'm wondering 'maybe I'm wrong and I had to install another one. "
So, could someone tell me what the most appropriate access in a production company with 300 final and internet users, or pointing me a link where I can find info on this subject.

    Thanks in advance!

    Rosario,

For Production environments using anything other than the EPG, it is safe. Which one? The answer depends on what skills you have and what are the infrastructure you already have in place.

If you have a SST, for example, so also use Oracle Forms and Reports, then go this route because it is one oldest and most proven. But if you don't have OHS already then you can check if there is no involved license fees.

ApexListener is the way to go if yours is a unique environment of the Apex. But with Apexlistener, you also need a Web server and you must choose among OC4J, Weblogic and Glassfish ARE if you want that support Oracle. Ok if you do it yourself you can also use Tomcat or open source Glassfish edition.

All of the above combinations work, you must choose what you are most comfortable with.

  • Problem connecting to the PL/SQL gateway embedded

I have Oracle XE installed on a machine running Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.3 (64-bit). It took a little effort to set up, but I got here in the end. I updated Apex Apex 3.2.1 default 2.2 installed and configured to use the PL/SQL gateway shipped on port 8500. I used the 8500 port because I also Apache Tomcat running and uses port 8080.

My problem is that I can access the web interface of Apex using the URL http://localhost:8500 / apex, but not when I use the static IP address assigned to my workstation which is 10.0.0.6. When I try the URL http://10.0.0.6:8500 / apex, Firefox gives error "Firefox can't establish a connection with the server 10.0.0.6:8500.

I tried turning off the firewall system but get the same problem. I also have SELinux installed, but it is running in permissive mode.

I think it's a problem Oracle XE/Apex because I can access the Tomcat home page using localhost or IP 10.0.0.6 in the URL - so I think that this excludes security/firewall problems.

I would like to be able to access the Apex, implemented by other computers, so it is very important to get this issue is resolved.

Does anyone have ideas, what may be the problem?

    Please try it.

To set access HTTP remotely connects:

    Start
    DBMS_XDB.setListenerLocalAccess (l_access-online FALSE);
    end;

  • Embedded Web access through the PL/SQL gateway

    Hello

I'm trying to use the PL/SQL gateway embarked on an application written for 10g XE with APEX 3.2. I can access the application from the computer on which APEX is installed by going to http:// < hostname >: 8080/apex /, but this page does not load on any other computer. I followed all the steps to configure the EPG that I could find in the guide on this forum and installation, and it still does not work.

Here's what I've done so far:
    (1) run the apex_epg_config.sql script to configure the EPG
    (2) unblocked the anonymous user account (EDIT USER ANONYMOUS ACCOUNT UNLOCK)
    3) updated the directory of the images (apxldimg.sql)
    (4) set the port HTTP (EXEC DBMS_XDB. SETHTTPPORT (8080))
    (5) enabled remote access (exec dbms_xdb.setListenerLocalAccess (l_access = > FALSE))

Any thoughts on why web access may not work? Is there something else I need to do before users can access my application on the internet?

    Thank you

  • Apex images 5 HTTP server problem

    Hi all

I had an Oracle Apex 5 installed in Oracle Database XE 11 on Windows 7 using EPG. Now, I follow the documentation to configure Oracle HTTP Server with Apex. I used the ofm_webtier_win_11.1.1.7.0_64_disk1_1of1 HTTP server.

I followed the instructions in the documentation:

6.5.1 on the Images copy directory

If you load a new installation or upgrading from a previous version, you must copy the images top level directory of the apex\images Directory, for example C:\TEMP , the location on the file system containing the Oracle home for Oracle HTTP Server.

and copied images files from C:\oraclexe\apex\images to C:\Middleware\Oracle_WT1\ohs\images.

After the race localhost:7777/pls/apex is the case:

    error.png

    It's my C:\Middleware\Oracle_WT1\instances\instance1\config\OHS\ohs1\mod_plsql\dads.conf:

    Alias is 'C:\Middleware\Oracle_WT1\ohs\images\ '.

    So what don't understand me?

    Hi Pa Przemek,

I'm going to install Oracle HTTP Server because I want to use "bootstrap" theme of apex - bootstrap.com and in a sample of the application that must be installed there is a substitution string that must indicate the directory on a server with files used by a theme.

There is no constraint to have OHS installation based to use bootstrap in Oracle APEX. You can have the theme "bootstrap" on any web listener option (i.e. OHS, EPG, ADR), given that you know where to load the required libraries (knowledge/i /) on the configured web server.

Yes, images directory have been copied properly with this command:

    xcopy/e/i C:\oraclexe\apex\images C:\Middleware\Oracle_WT1\ohs\images

Change the Alias is 'C:\Middleware\Oracle_WT1\ohs\images' in dads.conf and restart didn't help.

Then check the logs of OSH for the determination of the error.

    Reference: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/web.1111/e10144/man_logs.htm#HSADM790

Link that you gave me refers to the different error message. Should I run the apex_epg_config.sql script? Is this relevant also for the HTTP Server installation?

apex_epg_config. SQL is related to the configuration of Embedded PLSQL Gateway(EPG/internal mod_plsql) as your web server. It is not related to configuring Oracle HTTP Server (external mod_plsql).

First of all, I would say that fix on what web server option, you will use (OHS/EPG/ADR).

Reference: choose a Web listening port

Then go through the steps to install and configure your web listening port:

    I hope this helps!

    Kind regards

  • Changing the Apex of http server scenario or an auditor of XE installation.

    Hello!.
I installed Oracle 11 g XE. After that, I've updated to Apex 4.2 all it works very well, but... default XE installs and configures apex to use the gateway pl/sql embebed.
In this scenario, the images are stored directly in the database in oracle XML DB repository. This can be a problem because XE have a limit of 11 GB and my apex application is simple, but it can download images for clients, etc. and in this schenma that the photos will consume space in the database instead of using in the linux file system.
Can I install the HTTP server in a 11g XE and reconfigure apexr?, or can I change to apache + earphone? or easier... can I download images outside the XML DB in my apex application easily?

As far as I KNOW, the SST is a product authorized, not free. So you can consider this aspect.

, or can I change to apache + earphone?

You need a container with ApexListerner JEE, not Apache. Not supported, but a good option is Glassfish Community Server. You can always choose to deploy the Apache, in addition to JEE container, for URL rewriting, etc.

or easier... can I download images outside the XML DB in my apex application easily?

EPG is not the fastest server around.
I'd go with Apache + GF + ApexListener.

    See you soon,.

  • How to detect what http server is used?

    Hello

I need a simple method to determine what http server is being used on an existing installation of APEX, among the 3 possible methods.

    Thanx

In most cases, this is the URL which refers to what is behind the scenes.

If you/pls/apex in all probability his Oracle HTTP Server with ModPLSQL
If you see : 8080 then chances are its EPG or OC4J
If you see someother port, but not/pls/apex, then chances are its ApexListener.

A more accurate way is to run the below command from within the Apex, either an application or a SQLWorkshop

    select owa_util.GET_CGI_ENV('SERVER_SOFTWARE') from dual

EPG performance integrated Oracle PL/SQL Gateway/10.2.0.1.0 XE
    Apex-listener returns Mod-Apex

  • Apex Newbie question!  HTTP Server?

I'm newbie at the APEX. I have a background, s/n, but no experience with Oracle applications.

I respect your time and tried to find this info on the docs, but, honestly, can't find it. And I looked everywhere, metalink, otn, gogling. I thought I'd find on these forums a form any of the FAQ, but have not found the answer :-(

I installed the oracle 11g for windows database on my laptop, and when you install APEX 3.2, it asks me to stop the http server and... :-)

Now, I have a question about the Oracle HTTP server, which is supposed to be isntalled with 11g, rather than the accompanying CD, that exist no longers.

First question. We have a http server which is used by oracle control EM database, correct? I don't see a service for her on the list of Services. Installation of teh apex application requires the http server start/stop. How do we proceed? AND where the binaries of the http server located? I did a search for apache and found under C:\app\oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1\perl\site\5.8.3\lib\Apache, but not binary here, or under the ORACLE_BASE\bin either.

That set up for windows environment ORACLE_HTTPSERVER on a brand new installation of database 11g?

Now I see that we can get from Server HTTP installation of BEA. I was trying to prevent APEX to use a level of web server here. For me, the beauty of the APEX is not having to manage the BEA, or any other level. Keep it simple, at least for the development and keep everything on the DB, just use the native HTTP server.

It is therefore a VERY fundamental, but how do I do this? Worries me what I can and can't do with the native HTTP server or BEA later. I just want to get this site up and running so that I can start playing with it.

    Thank you

  • HTTP server shipped in weblogic vs. OHS

    Hello

I installed EMP. With her, weblogic is installed. I forgot to install ESS so weblogic uses its own HTTP server.

I have a few questions related to the embedded server vs OHS.

1 - HTTP Server integrated will work as well on OSH?

    2. is there a difference in speed between 2 servers?

    3. I'm having a lot of unusual problems, would it be because of embedded HTTP Server?

    Concerning

    Hi there are JanGLi,

your question is rather architectural and technical.

The use of OSH should be dictated by the topology of your environment.

1 - HTTP Server integrated will work as well on OSH?

Sure. WLS is designed and can operate as a stand-alone, i.e. without

    OSH at the front.

    2. is there a difference in speed between 2 servers?

Although I did NOT stress tests compare OHS vs WLS in the portion

Happy, I expect the OHS to serve static content, i.e. the images,.

    JS, css, etc.

I would say that OHS is required when you run the web-based

applications distributed among several DMZ where OSH should be in your

Internet zone and WLS in the application server box. You can also

WLS of SSL of unloading, for example, you can configure ESS to manage SSL

communication and let the WLS to do its job - execution of components JEE.

    3. I'm having a lot of unusual problems, could it be due to integrated

    HTTP Server?

In your case, I doubt that the problems you are having with EPM are

due to lack of OSH at the front. If you are more specific in the questions

you are facing I (or someone else in the community) might be able to

    help you.

    Hope this helps,

I am running windows 7. I think that my firewall and antivirus has nothing to do with this, because the XDB server and my brwoser client are on the same machine and the doesnot ask to go outside of the machine

    All thoughts are appretiated

If you have any of these issues and don't know what to do anymore...

    (1) turn the listener
    (2) delete or save your listener.ora (C:\Oracle11GDB\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\network\admin\listener.ora
    (3) start the receiver
    (4) bounce the database to let pmon registers the listener or use ALTER SYSTEM REGISTER in SQL * more via the SYS/SYSTEM account.
    (5) have a good look now at the exit of the LSNRCTL STATUS

If just as it should you get an own indication of what the database pushed as values of the function to the Auditor regarding:

-hostname (FQDN name) of the machine
-default TCP (s) SQL * Net of port numbers
    -name of the service
    -etc.

Use this result for your next strategy, for example, to correct the bad values in your configuration file setting of database via pfile/spfile and/or listener.ora etc.
