Empty window of Windows Update.

Yesterday the appearance of my Windows Update has changed, and when I tried to view the available updates, I see an empty window. I see only two tags, labeled as Important (1) and (4) optional, with no text in them. (I use Vista Business SP2)

  • Windows Update empty list updates the list (w / updates)

I have a weird problem with Windows Update on the Windows 7 x 64 (which obviously appeared after a while - not straight out-of-the-installation).
The problem is this: I have open Windows Update, click "Find updates", it tells me there are 3 optional updates available, click on "3 optional updates available" to make me choose which install, opens the list of updates, but... it is empty! And on the left, he continues to say "Optional (3)" (screenshot to http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/4839/wufail.png )
This happens also with the important updates, that they however to settle as they are selected by default, I guess.
Needless to say, without hidden updates are present...

    Suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

  • Installed Windows Update is empty

When I look at the Windows Update list, it is empty. I show no updates installed. If I look at the history of update of Windows, I see a list of many updates. Since I have no listed update as installed, I can not uninstall an update as IE 8. Can someone help me?

    Hello, scottlei

If you're just trying to uninstall Internet Explorer 8, you can try to do is a system restore to before Internet Explorer 8 has been installed or by using the FixIt tool at the following link: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/448b12c8-83f3-47c1-aa26-5d4a8e6422461033.mspx

  • Windows Update informs that the updates are available but the available updates list is empty

Windows 7 update gives me updates (1 important, 2 recommended) but when I click on the text that would normally be the list of updates of the list that I show is empty.

So far, Windows Update worked fine. Any idea?

Who has not helped, according to these instructions gives me the same update screen I've always seen.

In any case it is not important to me anymore, once I rebooted my computer the screen update began once more to work.

  • Cannot install windows updates and updates history screen is empty.

I can't install the windows updates. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. My automatic update is running... I studied and thought that the problem was with some service pack 2 I had to install - I did and nothing helped. My windows update history page is completley empty and Iwonder why. Also, I now can't seem to connect my Nokia phone to my computer as he finds the right driver online, but then it cannot install it. Can someone tell me what on Earth is cause of these problems. Thank you

The computer had only preinstalled Norton or McAfee, but I've since deleted these programs because I found them to be boring...

A properly installed, fully functional anti-virus application should never be boring. Although that pretty much excludes from the application of all the Norton and McAfee in my humble OPINION, there are others available.

These were not updated video card basis. Also, I tried to use the safe mode, but it crashes on MUP. SYS. I ran chkdsk... and who has not fixed it. Any ideas other then a new installation? Thanks for your help!

    Kevin_C_K,
You said you ran chkdsk and it didn't fix it, but it will report all the problems?
If you are still having this problem here is a couple of things to try (if you haven't already done so).
    Run the sfc/scannow utility.
When you have run chkdsk if you do not use the /r switch, then repeat the it like Chkdsk/r

    Hi S RAGAN,

I suggest to perform the clean boot on your computer and check.

From your computer by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine if a background program is interfering with your game or program. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot".

To perform a clean boot on a computer, follow these steps.

    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.

    3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.

    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.

    5. click on OK.

    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.

    7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

Please follow the system in the boot environment. If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to an application or a service, we have disabled. You can use the MSCONFIG tool again to reactivate the disabled one by one element to find the culprit.

If your issue is resolved, follow the how to determine what is causing the problem section in KB article to narrow down the exact source.

    Hi JensUS,

Thanks for posting your answers on the community forum.

According the information on the forum, it sounds as if, has)  There may be malware, virus on your system, B problems.)  Just system files are corrupt.

    Here are a few links that our community members have posted involving Malware and Virus protection.  Please run or walk through the suggestions as you wish;

    AntiVirus information: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistasecurity/thread/05e05fc2-e4eb-4a60-9384-7b1203941138

If the Antivirus or malware don't find any underlying problem.  If you are able to get the disk, following the suggestion of Matt can lead to the desired result.  If that fails, what Joseph has suggested is a good plan.  It is not a NEW INSTALLATION of Windows Vista, it replaces all just all the system files with the correct copy of the file system.  After it's over, you will have to reinstall any service packs and updates have been installed. (See note Joseph.)

  • My Control Panel window is empty, while I can't enter anything either and I can't get windows updates?

I put a new safety system as it seemed one I had was stale, not sure what I have something to do with it. driving me crazy.

    Hello

    1. do you receive an error message in windows update?

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

    Method 1:
The problem can also be caused by your security such as anti-virus program or a firewall of Windows /Defender that can have conflicting parameters as to not not to perform certain tasks. I suggest you temporary disable antivirus and firewall and check the result again. You must activate new security that you was disabled programs.
    Disable the antivirus software:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: If the problem persists, then try the steps from the link below. http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/931712

  • Empty windows appear in the recently closed Windows list

Recently, I upgraded to Firefox 13.0.1. (It seems that he could have two updates on the same day or after the other very short, but I'm not sure of him. I will be reminding upgrades of multiple instances of Firefox, all this same version. Thus, it * could * be true that this problem has arisen with this version or a recent previous version.)

Since the upgrade, empty windows appear in the list of recently closed Windows (RCWL). I try to keep the clean list, so when I'm done with a window holding sites I know I don't want to go back, I close all the tabs in the window, leaving an unused new tab *, and then close the window. These windows should not be included in the RCWL, but they are now.

[* I put new tabs to about: blank so that they will load the pages automatically.]

Since this standard behavior change comes with an upgrade, and since I can't find any reference to it elsewhere, including the Support of Mozilla, I suspect that it may be a new bug.

In troubleshooting, I tried deleting the list recently closed in these windows and tabs. I've never had before, but it seemed worth trying and as something that might have been relevant. I thought that perhaps a window would not "Save as really empty ' if it had recently closed tabs in the list. This tactic did not work.

I also tried to start Firefox in Mode safe, the reopening of all the RCWL, each one tab - a 'new tab' in all cases - closing then close each window. They always appear in the RCWL.

Please let me know if I can (or need to) provide additional information. Thanks for any help!

Try to set the browser.newtab.url pref to about: blank so currently, you do not use this parameter.

  • JavaScript:showPrintPDF opens an empty window

I use a messaging site that opens a new window to view and print parcel labels, using 'javascript:showPrintPDF '. Firefox opens an empty window without content.

I just noticed that the name of the script contains PDFS. The link "Details of the system more" with your original question does not show that you have the plugin installed Acrobat. If you open the pane of Add-ons, does show there?

Orange Firefox button or classic menu Tools > Modules

On the left side, click on Plugins. Then search for:

Adobe Acrobat 10.1.2.45 Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.1.2

If you have uninstalled Adobe Reader plugin in favor of another PDF reader/plugin, and then look for the appropriate plugin.

If the Adobe plugin should be there but isn't, you can be able to remedy this situation by reinstalling the Adobe Reader software. In some cases, you can copy a .dll file in a particular folder, but I don't have the relevant file and very practical directory names.

If you do not have the plugin, but it does not work properly, you can try to change how Firefox handles a PDF file to view it in the browser to launch Adobe Reader. Two places to check for this:

    (1) preferences, adobe Reader (or Acrobat)

Edit > Preferences > Internet > uncheck the box for display PDF in browser

    (2) usability of Firefox

Orange Firefox button or classic menu Tools > Options > Applications

In the search box, type or paste pdf and make a pause while Firefox filter list. Change the action in the right column "Always ask" and see if that helps.

This is a work around, you can test again after the next Adobe and Firefox updates.

  • Windows update fails-G62-225DX - bad startup a factory?

My nephew came to me recently with a G62-225DX HP, concerned about safety.  Given this machine is several years old (recently handed down from his father - I quickly understood why), I was surprised to see she was always being basic Windows 7 Home Premium.  Without SP1.

My first attempt to resolve this was to run Windows Update - no luck - immediately fails with "cannot run - services is not started.  Of course, verification services, yes I see WU and BITS running.

So, like any good tech person, I check in the case where the logs and see various errors, including the constant complaints on the Crypto database being corrupted.

Then, up to be Googling for these symptoms/messages.  I see many people with the same problem and a lot of suggestions on how to fix this (re - reg WU, STRANDS of clear/reset, flush/empty C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, catroot2 flush/empty, etc.).  Even seen one on the Intel hard drive problems due to replace it with a drive of more than 500 GB (this unit still has the original 320).

Spent hours trying all the suggestions there, especially when people said 'Yes, that fixed', nothing helps.

Since it was not something of value on this machine, I decide backup and restore "factory".

Imagine my surprise when, after reset of the image 'factory', it has exactly the same problem - Windows Update fails, out-of-the-box on the right!

I think to myself, it's crazy.  The machine is faulty from the start and everyone was naïve to not get Windows updates, AT ALL!

I even decided to try the Windows Update Checker (supposed to perform before installing SP1) and it fails with ' Windows Update Standalone install encountered and error - 0xc80000247 ".

So, I decided to run through the suggested fixes (from M$, no less) and all of a sudden, that Windows Update works.

I thought, it's fantastic.  He immediately calls to > 130 fixed critical.

After a few hours of download and installed, I restart only to get a BSOD - STOP 6 b - AAARRRGGGHHHH!  Tried to go through Windows restore previous checkpoint but that too fails with a mysterious error.  In addition, many Google hits on the 6 b says that it's a hardware problem.  But he was executed until the Windows update, with nothing in the case where newspapers to indicate hardware problems.

Then, I decided to do a restore from the image of what I started with.  At least it ran, even though she could not be updated.

I no longer dig and see a bunch of updates to the firmware/software for this machine, including the BIOS.  Even saw some strange 'Windows updates' HP.  I thought maybe it was something like the fiasco when the power management update for Intel processors had on machines AMD, thus paralyzing them!  Still nothing - WU still does not work!

Tried again to return to the original image, hoping that maybe to install all updates of office/hardware/driver on a virgin machine solve the problem.  Nope-WU still does not work.  Even went back through all the suggested fixed (saved as .bat files everthing).  Nothing, nada...

So, I'm posting here in hopes that someone has a miracle cure that I missed.

    Hello:

    I don't have a magic bullet...

The same thing happened to me while working on a friends HP 8100 Elite CMT, Windows 7 Pro, HP original image.

Would not install SP1 or Windows updates. I tried every trick in the book and after spending more than two hours, going nowhere, including restore from the recovery discs, I decided to install a plain OS W7 clean add drivers myself using the product key for W7 on the PC.

    It has worked well.

You can do the same thing if you can read the product key of W7 on the bottom of the laptop, and your nephew can't live without programs that was shipped with the PC.

In addition, if you format the drive and just install W7 on current partition, you can probably find the program of the installation files for the programs supplied with the PC in the SWSetup folder.

Here's how to do when you don't have installation of W7 media.

Use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. The link below. You need a DVD or a 4 GB flash drive using the USB compilation method.

Use the product key of windows 7 of 25 characters to activate your installation.

    http://download.CNET.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-download-tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below. Download the Windows 7 version that is on your product (Home Premium, professional or ultimate) key to apply.
