EqualLogic configuration and restrictions of RAID

We realize that there is NO way we can remove the existing RAID array so that we can replace several drives at once only to rebuild a new RAID. Feedback from the Engineer Support of Dell that if we act with this, we will need to use a connection series for reset and reconfigure the EQL scratch all on again once. Is this true?

Is there really no way to replace several drives in EQL without having to reset the entire system?

We meet also restart and EQL will stop when he was not able to rebuild the RAID, taking the storage offline without giving any possibility to proceed. So we are forced to connect return old hard disks and wait for it to rebuild the RAID. And despite having zero data and zero volume, reconstruction takes always the hours to complete.

Low-end NAS allow to remove the RAID and replace all disks while keeping the existing configuration. However, it seems that high-end EQL has no way to retain the existing configuration if need to replace multiple disks or RAID could not rebuild.

Is there a way we can save the existing configuration, we can restore?

Finally, it will be good if EQL could show what channel/RAID 50 each hard drive is a place where we can replace up to 4 HDDs without bringing the RAID rebuild process to a halt and cause a stop and restart again.

If it works, it will be almost double the read and write rates, I understand.

RAID offers for the SECOND and the following read/write of the same LARGE file acceleration and not otherwise. Any intervention of reading or writing in different files eliminates the acceleration. Any acceleration is much more dramatic on rotating discs, because it can eliminate some of the 10 ms or more long 'dead time' while the reader is a new track and the controller must wait for the correct data go in the position under the read/write head. Acceleration on the low-latency SSDS is far less dramatic.

The system drive / boot is particularly bad choice for a RAID, it reads and writes small random files in all directions. Who will get no acceleration.

You can best be served by creating a workflow that allows separate readers for the source files to Destination files, files of zero and drive system / boot.

    --------

RAID is usually done on the disks that are exactly or nearly the same. Too slow response of one of the discs can cause the RAID failure.

RAID support has been removed the disc utility GUI in 10.11 ElCapitan, probably because too many casual users got into trouble with the built-in GUI functions. You need to use the diskutil command in the Terminal, or buy the SoftRAID(4) package.

  • VI Analyzer Questions: Change the default test configuration and screw "Pavilion".

I have two things I continue to come through in VI Analyzer:

    1. are there in any case to set the default VI Analyzer so that it applies to all projects, I'm working on that?

I tried to create a task in project A, registration of the configuration and any attempt to open this file in project B, but it says that the file could not be loaded. The reason for my question is that there are a few default options that just add errors that we don't care (e.g. Controls dialog on the façade - 99% of the LabVIEW code that we are working on is called from TestStand as code modules, so the front panel doesn't really count)

    2. can I score / report some screws as 'safe' for parser tests?

Basically, some screws may fail some perfectly safe way VI Analyzer tests (e.g. non-stanard errors on a 'closing' VI, who doesn't have a case error structure so that the device always gets closed). I wish I had a way to mark the VI kind VI Analyzer would ignore this particular test. This would allow me to have a rule that says something like "before any construction, run the file configuration VI analyzer and make sure there is not error", as opposed to "run VI Analyzer and examine errors, decide whether or not they are important for the VI in question..." ». An extension to this question would be how do I perform a task VI Analyzer before building when the VI Analyzer screw do not accept files cfg for project based tasks.

Any help would be greately appreciated!

    Thank you

    Shaun

    1. a project oriented .cfg file cannot be transferred between projects.  Could you possibly create a .cfg unrelated to the project file (under the option 'Start a new task' on the first page of the VI Analyzer) and use it?  He would have no file in the list, but it would have all of the configured tests as you want.  And you could start with this on your different projects .cfg file... you would just add screws based on file (on page 2 of the VI Analyzer), rather than have all come to you in a .cfg project-based.

    2. on page 4 VI Analyzer, you can exclude certain tests to run on some screws and save these settings in a .cfg.  This option is also exposed in the VI Analyzer API with VIAn exclude the VI.vi Tests.

    Hi AL0001,

Run the chkdsk command to check that there are no problems with your hard drive. To run the disk check, follow these steps:

    1. Restart your computer and immediately press the F8 key until you reach the menu Advanced Boot Options.
    2. Select Mode safe mode with command prompt.
    3. At the command prompt, type chkdsk/r (there is a space between the k and /)

Meanwhile, check the Dell website to see how you can get a recovery disk in case you need to recover Windows.

Yes, it's always considered best practices.  You can view information about this here:

  • Security and restricting access to an FTP server

I did a search here on the forums about this and I wasn't able to find a good topic for my questions yet, if there is a debate currently on the forum, please forgive me and I would be grateful for a link. Anyway, my situation:

I have an ASA firewall and I have never set up an FTP server for a large-scale network (good in my opinion). I want to ensure that we have the highest security level optimal for FTP and restrict only specific users designated by an ACL. SFTP would be the best option available for the security measures? Should I only use the passive FTP mode and range of ports above 1023 do I open for only 1 or 2 FTP clients at a time? Also if I use passive mode do I need to use FTP protocol control?

In addition, currently, I'm not sure what files need to be available on our network, but the SFTP server always must be installed in the demilitarized zone?

    Thanks for any advice,-Mark

To activate the SFTP-server on the computer where the data resides is easy, but far not the safest option.

There are a few more ways to better ensure that. What about:

-Place the SFTP-server in the DMZ and let this server access the internal server via a fileshare. If someone takes your SFTP server, so it cannot directly a system in the internal network under its control.

-If the data display, data cannot be copied or synchronized to the DMZ-SFTP-server once the changes.

SFTP is based on SSH, so it works entirely on a port which is usually TCP/22.

  • UCS 200 M1 power Hang @ 'configuration and test of memory, please wait... »

    Hi all

I am new to the solution of the UCS and tried recently updated the BIOS via the host update utility and MMIC. There were a few warnings version that prevented the upgrade, but I was able to update the firmware of the NETWORK adapter.

CIMC is at version 1.0.2 and BIOS at C200.1.4.1.0.071320110702.

I'm not sure how to read the version of the BIOS however.

When the server is turned on, there are 3 long beeps and it crashes to the configuration and memory test, please wait...

In any case, I am tired of the BIOS recovery procedure using the J1E5 jumper without success.

    If anyone has experienced this?

    Thank you in advance.

    Calvin.

Host upgrade utility is not supported until version 1.2.

This may have been the cause of some of your upgrade issues.

You run a BIOS of 1.4 to what I see. You will need to update your version MMIC for version 1.2 and the. Use the HUU to 1.4

  • C210 M2 hangs at "hardware platform, configuration and test".

    Hello

We did a MMIC and update the BIOS on one of our servers to the latest version. System tells us that everything went well and the logging in the BIOS also worked well.

The confusing thing is, even if the BIOS itself showed the correct version, the Webgui interface shows the old one.

After leaving the BIOS screen and restarting the server twice for the installation of the OS, it now crashes after "memory test" to the 'config '. and test. step of the hardware platform.

Even trying to perform a recovery of the BIOS translates into find resumed his success after a few seconds and then (scope of the BIOS / show details in CLI changes status of recovery of the BIOS called "None") stops.

We´ve deleted each addtl. material such as PCI-card expansion and key USB system, cannot find error messages or stuff like that, we have simply wants this configuration and test step.

has anyone seen similar behavior or idea how to move forward here?

  • BlackBerry smartphone how to configure and use e-mail without BES

    Hello

I'm trying to figure How to configure and use e-mail without using a BES.

I checked with the local telephone company. And the number is not ascociated with any service of BES.

The entry of services show no indication in this sense.

In addition, the configuration of SIM card show that everything is disabled. This means that the phone is unlocked. At least that is my understanding.

However, even after a wipe, the BB device does not set up an e-mail account, as described in the manual. He keeps asking for a BES activation first.

    What will do that disappears?

And to allow the configuration of the "spam"?

Just develop the right answer given by JSanders, you can always access your email accounts and social networks (facebook, twitter, google +, etc) on your phone, you will just have no notifications PUSHED to your phone.  You can access the internet on your phone in order to access these accounts, but it should go to them.  With BlackBerry Internet Service activated on your phone account, RIM will push these notifications of new emails, facebook messages, new tweets etc. for your phone.  That's what you'll be missing out on without active BIS.

I wanted to just make sure that there is no likelihood of confusion.

  • ASA 8.4 cleaning using Network Configuration and Service objects

    Hello

As most of you know, firewall configurations can growth in order to be large and complex, making them difficult to understand and difficult to change.

I have a cleaning using network firewall configuration and Service objects and groups of objects running from 8.4 who I want to. This ASA (8.4) has over 30 Web Server VM deployed behind each with the same basic configuration: one to the outside inside the IP address and port mapping (x.x.x.x:ftp to y.y.y.y:ftp, etc.) by using the following well known ports: FTP, 80, 443, 3389.

    Examples of my existing configuration:

    network of the Y.Y.Y.Y_FTP object

    Home y.y.y.66

NAT (inside, outside) Static X.X.X.66 tcp ftp ftp service

    network of the Y.Y.Y.Y_WWW object

    Home y.y.y.66

NAT (inside, outside) Static X.X.X.66 tcp http http service

    network of the Y.Y.Y.Y_HTTPS object

    Home y.y.y.66

NAT (inside, outside) Static X.X.X.66 tcp 443 443 service

    network of the Y.Y.Y.Y_RDP object

    Home y.y.y.66

NAT (inside, outside) static service tcp 3389 3389 X.X.X.66

outside_in list extended access permit tcp any host y.y.y.66 eq 3389

outside_in list extended access permit tcp any host y.y.y.66 eq 443

The entries above for each port have to do whenever a new virtual machine is deployed behind the firewall.

Here's my ACE project and entered the object-group service to clean up configuration.

    object-group service WWW_FTP

The challenge lies in the consolidation of the network object entries that follow into something more condensed as the entries in the object-group service.

    Hello

I'm afraid that the only part of the configuration you can really change and make more condenced is configurations ACL using configurations different ' object-group ' .

Of course, you can also create a "object-group" for all servers that need the same ports open to further reduce the lines of actual configurations in the configuration of the CLI.

    However,.

Regarding NAT configurations there is unfortunately no way to reduce the amount of required configurations if you use Static PAT (Port Forward) for servers. There is no way yet to ports in group for "nat" configurations.

My question is, you have public IP addresses less at your disposal compared with the amount of different servers in your network behind the ASA?

If you have a public IP address dedicated to each server in the network, then I suggest to use static NAT instead of static PAT. It's about the only way that the NAT configuration could be minimized.

  • C240 M3 blocked "memory configuration and test..."

    Hello

This server was returned by just us to Cisco, which had lent because it was new.   We try to return to service, but have encountered the following problem.

At first startup, the server receives as much as 'memory configuration and test..' message.  Just this message, it shows no progress in actually memory test.   After a few seconds it turns off, and then turns upward again, repeat that a few times before sit down you with the "memory configuration and test.." message at the top of the screen, but now also showing the address IP of MMIC inside.   The four led above the power button shows green fixed and switch ID unit than the blue LED power buttons, as they should.

I can get to the MMIC login screen, but the password to the default password so can't get farther in this direction until we discover the new username/password details.  Unless anyone knows how to reset the default MMIC.

I tried the following recovery steps...

    (1) if we set the J2065 ' Clear CMOS' jumper, the server doesn't work.  It powers up to the day before, but does not respond when you press the power button.

    (2) to the "recovery" of the J2068 rider don't seem to have any effect, the server does not read the USB key recovery file.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    Tony S

I remove the CMOS battery for a while, put back in place, try again and if still nothing... I would look for a motherboard replacement.
