Equium A200: Mat * a UJ - 850 s read DVD but not CD
Post on behalf of a friend who has problems with its Equium A200. He has a stack * a reader of DVD UJ - 850 s, this is the rub.
The DVD player will read and play the media of origin such as the movies but will not read any CD, whether they are originals or CD - R.
She telephoned support who asked her if she installed iTunes and told him to follow a few steps to delete upper and lower filters in the registry.
She has done (although not had lower filters), the problem remains. It looks like a hardware failure for me, thoughts?
See you soon
> It sounds like a hardware failure for me, thoughts?
Yes, it might be possible that hardware is defective.
I mean that looks like the laser lens was stressed and may not calibrate correctly in the right direction in order to be able to read the CD.
But before that you would try to replace the driver I recommend to test one thing;
You can try to boot from the recovery disc and may reinstall the whole OS.
Notes; everything is erased from the HARD drive using the recovery disk. So back up the data first.
After restoring, you will get a notebook with the settings and then you could try to read from a CD disc.
If this is not possible there is a hardware problem

Hello
tried a Firmwareupdate for the reader? At this address you can get the latest update if it is not already:
http://Forum.RPC1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=15&manufactor=18
So if the problem persists, then your only option would be to contact a local service partner. They will probably check your disk for physical errors.

DVD/CD drive will read DVD but not CD
My DVD player plays DVD but not CD. Whenever I try to play a CD, the player is a kind of hum noise. Finally, the Player opens and a popup tells me to insert a disc.
I tried a system restore and the automated Microsoft fixit tool. Nothing has worked.
I use Vista Ultimate.
Any ideas? Thank you.

Satelitte P850-132: optical drive read DVD but not CD
Hello
I have a P850-132 of Satellite of Toshiba (PSPKAE) with a Mat * one optical drive DVD-RAM UJ8B0.
I have the latest drivers for the optical drive installed (6.1.7601.17514).
Problem: Reads DVD very well, but cannot read the CD.
When you try to play a CD, the player makes a low clicking noise: ~ 4 quick clicks, then a second of silence, ~ 4 quick clicks... The player repeats this model by clicking silence/4 times, then goes silent. Nothing else happens.
The drive is defective? Is there an easy way to check if it is?
The pointers will be deeply appreciated :)

Satellite A100 PSAA9A - can read DVD BUT not CD with Windows XP
I use a satellite A100 PSAA9A computer laptop and I started having trouble with the CD/DVD drive. It was working fine until yesterday when he decided not read no matter what CD I get the message asking me to insert a disc, when there is a CD in the drive. It still reads DVD good.
I don't know if he has anything to do with the download of the updates of Windows XP because the troubl seems to start after I did.
Is there somewhere in the creation for the player who controls this? Also when I run the troubleshooting test it always ignores the test of this drive.
I'd appreciate any help.

ATAPI DVD A DH16AYH ATA Device read DVD but not CD
Engraver of CD/DVD in Compaq Presario 5010NX w / VistaBasic read any DVD but has problems with CD if I insert a music CD, sometimes it will open right and I can play music. Most of the time he just tells me to "insert a disc", usually open the status bar, but not always. If I close the drawer [or eject and close the tray] from 3 to 15 times, he finally opens the CD. Generally. Sometimes I drop and open it on my old computer Millennium, [which never fails to open the CD]. I bought a cleaning disc, but it still happens. Also, it stopped opening the tray with the manual key (1,200 works tent) and will always open with 'Eject' of the computer, but only with DVD and sometimes will open with the "eject" computer with the CD never if it is empty, so I always keep a known disc "opener" in the status bar. (if I forgot, I use a paper clip)
I did an online search of the Device Manager for a driver update and he told me that the best software is already installed. I just need a new burner? Why is - that it will work with DVD CD not? driving me crazy. Thank you ps can not find a burner mfgr. says simply "drive SuperMulti DVD with Lightscribe" - pps I tried uninstalling the Device Manager, and then restart the computer - no change. Haven't tried the support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_problems diagnostic program no solution I came across a post from someone else who had the same problem [former position & 'uninstall & reboot' was the only suggestion on this one.] I can't believe that it could be physical burner... why he wouldn't hesitate to read the DVD if it was a physical problem? Help?

You have disk problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD burning and)
Playback of CD and DVD). So it is not unusual for parts from 1 or 2 to not work so that others do
correctly.Burning at low speed, or by using the master could help. A CD/DVD cleaner might help.
Brand of the CD or DVD drive can also be the problem. Low quality (cheap brands) are always problematic.
CD/DVDs have a tolerance + - and your can read/write on the edge outside these discs

SAM 5200-701 reads DVDs but not any type of CD...
I'm in a bit of confusion here and hoping for a little help.
Yesterday I installed the latest update of the BIOS for the 5200 701 of this Web site (such as recommended by a tech note I read about installing linux) all is well and everything seemed fine. Until I tried to use the built in player TEAC DW-224th to read a CD. It seemed to try several times to rotate the disc upward but was constantly looking for. In the end, it is not turn up, but the orange light comes on.
I tried CDR CDRW and regular CD. None worked and none of my bootable CD's would work (so it is not a windows problem).
However the DVD works fine first time in windows or boot my linux CD.
I bought the pc several years ago and now out of warranty so all suggestions appreciated.
If there is no known solution so I need to find a repair company in the area of Reading in England.
Thanks in advance.
Jamie.

can read DVD but not CD but I have previously tried many ways, but in vain
It's something that's happened recently, I can still burn DVDs but the CD is not recognized at all
Hi tommytommytom,
1 when was the last time it was working fine?
2. did you of recent changes on the computer?
3. what happens when you try to insert the CD in the drive? You receive an error message?
4. What is the number of brand and model of the DVD player on the computer?
5 have you tried the fixit tool provided in the previous post?
If the previous suggestions don't fix the issue, then I suggest that you install the updated drivers for the DVD player by visiting the site of manufacture of the disk and check if that helps.
Updated a hardware driver that is not working properly
I hope this helps!

DVD - RW DVR-K17LF for the Satellite series does not read DVD but only to CD
Hello
I have a serious problem with my DVD player.
He stopped to work. I mean, he's not reading CD but not DVD discs.
I don't know what the problem is.I went on the internet and found no solution.
Please help me.
It is not a software problem, because my laptop does not start the DVD, but due to the CD...Hello
The issue could be linked to the anomaly of the player's laser lens.
Maybe the lens can not handle the DVD because of a physical constraint.
In most cases, the lens can not calibrate properly and therefore different media would not work.
In this case there is not much to do in most of the cases that the drive needs to be replaced. But maybe you could try to clean the drive s laser lens using a cleaning professional who could be bought from the other computer dealers.
I don't very well if this will help but it s worth to try mPS: Try this:
Remove the drive from Device Manager, access the registry and remove the filters top and bottom of this key;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}Then restart the laptop and check the functionality of s by car.

My CD/DVD drive reads CD but not DVD
Hi all
I have a TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633M DVD player in my laptop and after about 6 months of use, the drive stopped reading/writing DVD. It still reads CDs fine and sometimes will read a DVD completely (without provocation and without warning...!) but is very skittish and stops randomly just to play a DVD. Often, the player will eject and give an error message tells me to insert a disc. I don't know what to do.
I am running Windows Vista 32-bit. I tried to run the Microsoft Fixit application, which recognizes that the drive is unable to read DVD but offers nothing more useful than and doesn't solve anything (despite its name...). I've read through a number of different forums and have found a range of advice: replace the disk, uninstall and reinstall the drivers or editing the registry. What should I do to solve this problem? Naturally, I would prefer not to have to replace the drive itself, but if it's the only way...
Thanks in advance!
Mangi
The registry thing only works if the drive is completely AWOL from the system so that it does not appear as a drive in "My Computer"... not your problem. The DVD and CD using different lasers and it is not uncommon to go wrong and the other not. You can check the operation of the DVD trying to boot from a bootable DVD. If you can not drive is bad and needs to be replaced. If it works sometimes and not others it could just need a good cleaning with a DVD lens cleaner.
