    I just install VMware Server 2 on Ubuntu 8.10, but I am struck a snag. I start a VM XP or Windows 2 K and it starts OK and appears in the console (running on the same computer). However when I press alt-ctrl-ins everything that happens, is that the slider is released (as if I had pressed alt-ctrl-cursor takes the form of a pointer to a hand).

  • vmrun on linux vmware server 2

    Hello, I tried to run a virtual machine with the console via vmrun on Ubuntu 8.10.

    I used this code:

    vmrun T - h server https://localhost/SDK Pei password login u start '[standard] Win2000pro/Win2000pro.vmx'

    What makes the virtual machine, but I want the console to open in a new window in full screen, as we do with the web interface.

    Thank you in advance for answering.

    I'm not able to test this at the moment, but see if this thread is useful because I think that the command line options will be the same between Linux and Windows - Re: automatic remote console connection

  • Working with VMware Server 2 Terminal | Linux

    Hello guys.

    I just downloaded the VMware Server 2 and I want to install it on my linux dedicated server using ssh because I do not have a GUI on my server. I don't know how things work here, but I guess it's a kind of forum. The mine is a question. I can install it like this?... and then create my virtual server using ssh, configuration there and that sort of thing? Is there a howto or documentation because I looked but found nothing so far. I would be very grateful if someone can give me a tip.

    My server Debian Lenny 5. It is an Athlon 2 x 2.8 Ghz with 2 GB ram and got enough HDD.

    VMware Server can be installed without problems on a terminal (also remote with SSH) text.

    Management of virtual machine, you can use or VMware CLI or (easier) the web administration page.

    See the documentation on the site of VMware Server 2.

  • Host kernel taken Linux supported for vmware Server 2?

    VMware is advertising that VMware server can be installed in 64 bit, Linux, but that's not true. I can't install it in one of my 64-bit Linux host. Only legacy distributions are supported. I use openSuse 11.2 64 bit or Ubuntu 9.10.

    Is it true that VMware is NOT recent Linux kernels of Pentecost compatible 2.6.3x? Only legacy host kernels Linux is supported?

    When this catastrophic situation will be fixed in the new version of Pentecost?

    None of the patches to install VMserver or workstation on more recent than AFAIK 2.6.26 kernels are officially released by VMware.

    If you really think that you need a core of bleeding edge, you must use these patches not supported.

  • VMware Server 2.0.1 for Linux 64-bit - any differences?

    Probably a stupid question (well, it is), but I can't find a definitive answer.  Is there a difference between the "'VMware Server 2 for Linux 64 - bit version operating systems ' rpm and archive "Basic application necessary for the performance of VMware Server 2, 64-bit version" ?"  The database size, release & build number, etc..  I put this on a Ubuntu 9.04 server, so the speed control will not work unless I convert it into something that includes apt.  Is archive of the right way to go?

    Thank you.

    You are right, because they contain the same substance, just wrapped differently for different distributions. Labelling could certainly be clearer. Have fun!

  • Arrow in VMware Server Console 1.08 - problem keys Linux 1.09

    Hello

    After an upgrade sometimes ago, I found a strange behaviour on VMware Server Console 1.0.8. I tested VMware Server Console 1.0.9 and it behaves the same way.

    The problem is: arrows do not function correctly, and the 'Alt Gr' key does not work as expected (by pressing "Alt Gr" + a key provides as it is pressed without "Alt Gr". Sometimes "Alt Gr" beahaves like 'Enter')

    The behavior is always reproducible on all tested computers with VMware Server Console 1.08 - 1.09 on Linux and all tested clients.

    Platform customer information:

    VMware Server Console 1.0.8 build-126538 and 1.0.9 build-156507, openSUSE 11.1, Linux 2.6.27.23 - 0.1 - #1 SMP, KDE3 and KDE4 default

    Server:

    VMware-server - 1.0.6 - 91891, openSUSE 11.0, Linux 2.6.25.20 - 0.1 - pae #1 SMP

    Guests:

    Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003, Linux OpenSuSE 11.0 & 11.1

    Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

    The problem is on the server. On the host that edit you/etc/vmware/config

    I had the same problem with a linux host. Here, you will need to edit this file and Add following lines in/etc/vmware/config

    xkeymap.keycode.108 = 312 # Alt_R

    xkeymap.keycode.106 = 309 # KP_Divide

    xkeymap.keycode.104 = 284 # KP_Enter

    xkeymap.keycode.111 = # 328 Up

    xkeymap.keycode.116 = # 336 down

    xkeymap.keycode.113 = # 331 left

    xkeymap.keycode.114 = # 333 right

    xkeymap.keycode.105 = 285 # Control_R

    xkeymap.keycode.118 = # 338 Insert

    xkeymap.keycode.119 = # 339 Delete

    xkeymap.keycode.110 = # 327 home

    xkeymap.keycode.115 = 335 # end

    xkeymap.keycode.112 = # 329 front

    xkeymap.keycode.117 = # 337 then

    xkeymap.keycode.78 = 70 # Scroll_Lock

    xkeymap.keycode.127 = 256 # break

    347 = xkeymap.keycode.133 # Meta_L

    xkeymap.keycode.134 = # 348 Meta_R

    xkeymap.keycode.135 = 349 # Menu

    .. then all the keys will function correctly on the comments.

    Look at my blog: http://johannwein.wordpress.com/

    Another thing is: given that the upgrade from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 - VMware Server Console 1.09 does not set up. You have a lot of mistakes by vmware - config.pl

  • Best Linux o/s to be used for VMWare Server 2

    Hi guys,.

    What would be the best Linux o/s to be used for VMWare Server 2 and why?

    Are there known traps or other questions that you may have experienced with some operating systems.

    Thanks for the comments.

    I don't know about the 'best' that I only use openSUSE x 64 but I find it incredibly stable and reliable, especially when compared to a lot of Vista (out of production). Image single with 8 GB disks and non - RAID SATA with usually about 10 virtual machines running constantly. CentOS and Ubuntu seem to appear a lot here, but that could be wrong, since people in general do not post when things are working very well. Fedora seems to have arisen recently with more than its share of problems.

  • VMWare Server 2 does not automatically start on the Linux host

    Hello

    My problem:

    When I start my computer (Linux Suse 11 (64-bit), then VMWare Server is not running. So I have to open a terminal, get root, and then /etc/init.d/vmware start.

    I would like to have this done automatically.

    I have an entry in /etc/init.d/rc5.d/ called S19vmware, but it seems that it doesn't matter, and I can't find an entry in dmesg or var.

    I have a few entries in /etc/init.d/: vmware, vmware autostart, hearts vmware, vmware-mgmt, the link in /etc/init.d/rc5.d/S19vmware tip vmware_start to... /VMware is that correct?

    Any help appreciated.

    Thank you

    Dirk TheSheep

    I had the same problem on my openSUSE 10.3 x 64 host and found that setting RUN_PARALLEL "no" in/etc/sysconfig/boot ensured that vmware services launched at startup.

  • Cannot add existing VM to VMware Server 2.0.2 on Debian Linux

    It is apparently a fairly general failure, and I don't know where to start to look at to diagnose.  I hope that I just have something wrong set somewhere.

    I try to add an existing virtual machine in Windows 7 (created on VMware Fusion 2.x, then migrated to Fusion 3.0) to my new dedicated VMware Server 2 fancy box.  I copied the entire VM directory structure (in a toplevel .vmware directory) to the same subdirectory where the other virtual machines on VMware Server 2 box.  I click on the link 'Add Virtual Machine inventory' and go to the virtual machine and click the .vmx file.  Then, I get this error:

    The server could not complete a request (HTTP 0 ).
    The server encountered an unexpected condition that prevented it from fulfilling the request. If this problem persists, please contact your system administrator.

    When I clicked OK, I find that the webservice of VMware seems to be declining.  I get no response from the port 8222 or 8333.  I'm not very familiar with command line tools, so the only way I know to get back on the administration interface is to restart VMware itself.

    I am running VMware Server 2.0.2 - 203138, x86_64 rely on an Intel Xeon chip with four cores.  The host operating system is Debian 5.0.3 ("Lenny"), amd64 build.

    In the subdirectory of/var/log/vmware, I find a lot of posts like the

  • Connection on a VMware Server 2 on OpenSuSE Linux 10.2 is not possible

    Hello together

    I installed an OpenSuSE 10.2 Server (32 - bit) mode text as system host with VMware Server 2 installed with yast.  I can access it from my Vista PC.

    On https://192.168.0.10:8333 / ui / # I see the login screen. When I try to connect with the root servers and password user, it gives me the message "Login failed due to a bad user name or password."

    If I check the running processes, I am following up running: vmware-watchdog, authdlau-vmware, vmware - pass. So I guess that the server is running properly.

    AppArmour is disabled and on webmin for example the connection is possible with the root user.

    Any help apreciated. Thank you very much.

    Mario

    I came across the same issue on 10.2 when Server 2.0 is out. As there is no solution or a help right now I went back to the server 1.0 x. In the meantime, there is a solution possible, mentioned in the third posting of this thread (editing files of PAM and replacing 'pam_unix.so' by 'pam_unix2.so')

    I try it again once the server will soon be reinstelled with OpenSuse 11.1 (support for 10.2 has finished), so I stay with 1.09 for now and move to Server2.01 after upgrade

  • Migración of Vmware server 1.0 y 2.0 by ESX 4.0

    Hola, tengo varios servidores con Vmware server 1.0 2.0 y y estoy valorando el pasarlos an ESX 4.0, is that he read Dan mucho mas performance than estas versiones. I have several dudas Development Qué os agradeceria me ayudarais a program of resolution:

    No me importa pay for ESX 4.0 model, but what differences the ESXi gratuita con Hay con respecto the capabilities?

    ¿mediante pueden traspasar las maquinas copiandolas, como he hecho alguna vez office between 2 Vm server 2.0 ESX 4.0 al (o ESXi)?

    También voy a montar nuevos, usually instalo servidores 3 maquinas office, 1 con linux y otras 2 con Win2003-2008 by Terminal Server's Active Directory cada una, what're mejor, montar discos duros rapidos (sas) o poner 2 processors fisicos?

    Gracias.

    Hola,

    El hecho usar el esxi free dificulta a poco (o mucho depende para only) Administration del día a Día del entorno esxi.

    Las and/or mas una obvias tiene el free esxi are that for example any faffa you will have provide una para esxi backup respond. Have usar things scripts of the VMWare para programar una comunidad como forma automated los backups, without is las soportan jumbo frames, the VI API are en modo lectura (eso limited you one that no other realize mediante don't scripts Quarto tasks you en entorno virtual), etc...

    Te paso UN link para veas as caracteristicas las get licenses of VMWare pago.

    Para el proceso virtualizacion you recomendaria usases el vmware converter 4.01 as in the majority of cases facilitated the Migración.

    Respecto has the las CPU pregunta y discos, cuando to virtualiza para reaching a good level of page are important disponer o the processor cores. In principio few mas mejor.

    Pero igual o mas important las CPU are UN acceso a rapido disco (e/s). A menudo suele ser el of botella in los entornos virtualizacion cuello.

    Por tanto siempre are mucho mejor usar discos en vez as sata sas y cuando mejores caracteristicas (lectura/escritura RAM, Cordless, etc.) tenga controladora of discos del virtualizador, better than best.

    Bueno creo as con esto is tienes suficiente partida para hacerte una idea information

    Best wishes / Saludos.
