Connection on a VMware Server 2 on OpenSuSE Linux 10.2 is not possible

Hello together

I installed an OpenSuSE 10.2 Server (32 - bit) mode text as system host with VMware Server 2 installed with yast.  I can access it from my Vista PC.

On https://192.168.0.10:8333 / ui / # I see the login screen. When I try to connect with the root servers and password user, it gives me the message "Login failed due to a bad user name or password."

If I check the running processes, I am following up running: vmware-watchdog, authdlau-vmware, vmware - pass. So I guess that the server is running properly.

AppArmour is disabled and on webmin for example the connection is possible with the root user.

Any help apreciated. Thank you very much.

Mario

I came across the same issue on 10.2 when Server 2.0 is out. As there is no solution or a help right now I went back to the server 1.0 x. In the meantime, there is a solution possible, mentioned in the third posting of this thread (editing files of PAM and replacing 'pam_unix.so' by 'pam_unix2.so')

I try it again once the server will soon be reinstelled with OpenSuse 11.1 (support for 10.2 has finished), so I stay with 1.09 for now and move to Server2.01 after upgrade

Now that you have added the domain to the identity of Sources, you can set the permissions for the domain users or groups on the vCenter server object.

  • VI Client and VMware Server 2

Can someone explain the relationship between the client native windows VI and VMware Server 2?  At the present time, I am not able to login to VMware Server 2 product outside the Web access.   Agent VI does not provide any real comments on why it cannot establish a connection.  Usig VMware Server 1.X console I can generate an error of "" 501 overall GLOBAL server agent nonhost command targets not supported. ""  With the VI client I get connection error... From a shell, I can telnet to the server on port 904 (the port I have set up on) and get the connection. I tried to put in hostame.domain.com:904 in the VI client IP/name field and the ipaddress: 904. I don't know what is the version of the VI client, because there is no indicator.

You must log in via hostname:8333 in the VIClient.

  • Why I am invited to a certificate at the launch of VMWare Server home page?

Why I am invited to a certificate at the launch of VMWare Server home page?  I know it's not everyone.  Many of my colleagues use VMWare server, and it is not prompted to select a certificate.

You are prompted because the server uses the SSL certificate by default demo. The demo cert is issued by VMWare, this transmitter is not approved by your browser if you receive the certificate error message when you try to access the page.

If you use Firefox, you can add the certificate as an exception by selecting the drop down menu "I understand the risks", "Add Exception".

If you use IE you can continue to the Web site, and then select the "certificate error" warning message in the address bar (assuming that you have IE 7/8) and by adding the exception it (view certificate > install the certificate).

Beyond the options above to add the certification to your browsers trust certificate store, you can download a new web SSL certificate on your server issued by a common approved issuer (i.e. VeriSign, or your own approved Cert authority internal).

  • The passage to vSphere VMWare Server 2.0?  How?

    Hello-

I hope someone can point me in the right direction here.

I'm under VMWare Server 2.0 on a box of 2300 Windows R2.  After having proven virtualization to management, I bought vSphere. Now I see that I need help to determine the best place to start with this migration project.  I have several questions, I hope someone can help with.

#1.  VMWare Server 2.0 is the box now have is that I want to use with VSphere.  The problem I have is that I have four virtual servers running on this box.  Y at - it a conversion utility to move in and outside this area of VMware Server 2.0 in vSphere environment?   Is it possible to move to something like a Dell EqualLogix (which I have) and box of your choice in the vSphere environment? Should I worry about what it is?  If Yes, what?

#2.  I have four physical servers that I will be the conversion to vSphere?  Is there a tool to help with this?

Tips, links to documentation and of course any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thank you!

    Hello

Welcome to the VMware community forums!

Basically the answer boils down to the use of VMware vCenter Converter

But if you want to reuse the same box for vSphere/ESX you have a little problem with that chickens and eggs for the existing virtual machine

You can however copy the VM out there to external storage and import them manually in vSphere later.

To do this, you may need to use the vmkfstools command line tool to import the disks in the correct format.

    Hope this helps,

  • Cannot be updated for the new VMWare Fusion - connection to the update server

    Hello

My apologies if I seem ignorant and things must be explained clearly to me, but I am a Mac user on a Macbook Pro for the first time. Have installed Vmware Fusion, and am also running Windows XP. Whenever I have try and upgrade to the latest version of VMware fusion, I get an error saying "connection to the update server has been lost. How to fix this problem please? Subsequently I can't write any DVD on my Mac. Very frustrating.

Please could someone help and advise what I can do?

    Thanking you!

Suggest that you download the full version of VMware Fusion and then uninstall/reinstall it from the .dmg image file that you download.

  • can not connect to vmware server 2, just installed on vista

so I just install VMware server 2 on professional vista, and I can't connect.

the installation goes very well, no errors, and I reinstalled twice now and still no success at connect.

I click on Vmware server home page, it does appear in firefox, I use my login and my password that I use to connect on my computer and I just get:

"The login failed due to a bad username or password".

    help, please, thank you.

    Hello

Try activation of your administrator account and setting a password for it.  Then use these credentials to connect.  Once connected, you can set other local accounts to use.  You can then disable the administrator account.

Try the above, I didn't have to do is when I installed Windows 7, but I remember having to do so in the past on vista.

  • Why the administrator is the only one who can connect to VMware server 2.0.1 GUI?

I am facing this problem and have been unable to find a solution for this.

I need to segment users who manages our servers VMware 2.0.1 in ProductionAdmins, DemoServerAdmins, DevAdmins etc etc. VMware server runs on Windows Server 2003 member of a domain (for example, the AD authentication).

My main problem is that only users who are allowed to log on by using the graphical interface are those who are members of the local Administrators group - and by substituting so completely the VMware Server permission settings. I get a "you do not have the permissions to connect to the server" for all users, except the members of the group mentioned.

In the VMware Server documentation, I can read that users and groups are managed by the host OS (AD), but is obviously not "the complete truth. I tried to add a user (domain or local user also) to the local 'users', '__vmware__', 'Power Users', etc., etc. no change

What prevents the user to log on to the server. I even tried to add the user to "Remote desktop users" - which works very well (with the exception of the connection to the console that requires membership of the admin).

    I don't understand. What's wrong???

Have you used the Administration-> manage roles (WebUI)?

You set up the authorization for VMS (WebUI)?

I work in the field and I can set up permission for domain members (not only Local Administrators or domain administrators).

  • XP, VMware Server 2: Error loading Page - Firefox can't establish a connection to the server < hostname >: 8333

This seems to be a fairly common problem, or variations of it.  When I reinstall (repair) VMware Server (2.0.1), it corrects the problem.  As soon as I reboot, I get the error once again and can no longer connect via the web access.

I don't have McAfee SecurityCenter to Comcast, and I'm trying to understand if there is a firewall issue. What makes no sense at all, it is this issue has occurred only recently, and I used VM for several months with several guests and almost no problems (through multiple reboots).

What are the most common reason for this problem?

    Thank you.

I had the same problem, started the 'VMware VSS Writer' Service and set it to automatic.

    Works now.

  • 1. can't connect to VMWare Server when no network 2. Comments or lost when lost network connections

    Hello

I have two guests of computer virtual on my laptop.

    1. I can't connect to VMWare Server when there is no network.

This means that I can not launch the guests when I'm at home (with no network) or on the road.

    2. the connections are lost when lost network.

As a corollary to article 1 above, if I am connected to the work, and that the network is lost, my connections are lost for the guests.

How to configure VMWare so that this doesn't happen, please?  (I inherited the setup of a colleague who has left, so I don't know how it has been implemented).

If you want to connect, try: https://127.0.0.1: 8333 or https://localhost:8333.

BTW. You can upgrade your VMware Server to the latest version, as I see you are using the beta version.

  • OK I installed VMWare Server 2, how can I connect?

I downloaded and installed VMWare Server 2

I have an icon called VMWare Server Home Page

This IE opens on port 8333 seeking a VMware Infrastructure Web Access user name and password

Where can I find these identifiers?  Technical support wasn't much help, advising me to register the product online.  When I do this it tells me that it is already registered.

So, how can I start using VMWare Server?

I must be being stupid sorry!

    Hello

If you use windows (I think that you have administrator rights), add the password for your account. Enter your windows login and password to connect to the user Web interface.
