Cannot add existing VM to VMware Server 2.0.2 on Debian Linux
It is apparently a fairly general failure, and I don't know where to start to look at to diagnose. I hope that I just have something wrong set somewhere.
I try to add an existing virtual machine in Windows 7 (created on VMware Fusion 2.x, then migrated to Fusion 3.0) to my new dedicated VMware Server 2 fancy box. I copied the entire VM directory structure (in a toplevel .vmware directory) to the same subdirectory where the other virtual machines on VMware Server 2 box. I click on the link 'Add Virtual Machine inventory' and go to the virtual machine and click the .vmx file. Then, I get this error:
The server could not complete a request (HTTP 0 ). The server encountered an unexpected condition that prevented it from fulfilling the request. If this problem persists, please contact your system administrator.
When I clicked OK, I find that the webservice of VMware seems to be declining. I get no response from the port 8222 or 8333. I'm not very familiar with command line tools, so the only way I know to get back on the administration interface is to restart VMware itself.
I am running VMware Server 2.0.2 - 203138, x86_64 rely on an Intel Xeon chip with four cores. The host operating system is Debian 5.0.3 ("Lenny"), amd64 build.
In the subdirectory of/var/log/vmware, I find a lot of posts like the

Arrow in VMware Server Console 1.08 - problem keys Linux 1.09
Hello
After an upgrade sometimes ago, I found a strange behaviour on VMware Server Console 1.0.8. I tested VMware Server Console 1.0.9 and it behaves the same way.
The problem is: arrows do not function correctly, and the 'Alt Gr' key does not work as expected (by pressing "Alt Gr" + a key provides as it is pressed without "Alt Gr". Sometimes "Alt Gr" beahaves like 'Enter')
The behavior is always reproducible on all tested computers with VMware Server Console 1.08 - 1.09 on Linux and all tested clients.
Platform customer information:
VMware Server Console 1.0.8 build-126538 and 1.0.9 build-156507, openSUSE 11.1, Linux 2.6.27.23 - 0.1 - #1 SMP, KDE3 and KDE4 default
Server:
VMware-server - 1.0.6 - 91891, openSUSE 11.0, Linux 2.6.25.20 - 0.1 - pae #1 SMP
Guests:
Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003, Linux OpenSuSE 11.0 & 11.1
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
The problem is on the server. On the host that edit you/etc/vmware/config
I had the same problem with a linux host. Here, you will need to edit this file and Add following lines in/etc/vmware/config
xkeymap.keycode.108 = 312 # Alt_R
xkeymap.keycode.106 = 309 # KP_Divide
xkeymap.keycode.104 = 284 # KP_Enter
xkeymap.keycode.111 = # 328 Up
xkeymap.keycode.116 = # 336 down
xkeymap.keycode.113 = # 331 left
xkeymap.keycode.114 = # 333 right
xkeymap.keycode.105 = 285 # Control_R
xkeymap.keycode.118 = # 338 Insert
xkeymap.keycode.119 = # 339 Delete
xkeymap.keycode.110 = # 327 home
xkeymap.keycode.115 = 335 # end
xkeymap.keycode.112 = # 329 front
xkeymap.keycode.117 = # 337 then
xkeymap.keycode.78 = 70 # Scroll_Lock
xkeymap.keycode.127 = 256 # break
347 = xkeymap.keycode.133 # Meta_L
xkeymap.keycode.134 = # 348 Meta_R
xkeymap.keycode.135 = 349 # Menu
.. then all the keys will function correctly on the comments.
Look at my blog: http://johannwein.wordpress.com/
PS: in my case - I on localhost - server - and client...
Another thing is: given that the upgrade from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 - VMware Server Console 1.09 does not set up. You have a lot of mistakes by vmware - config.pl
But it's another question good luck!

Cannot add ESXi host to vCenter Server
Hello
I created a home set up a VMware datacenter for study purposes. I currently have 2 virtual machines: an ESXi host with vCenter Server Appliance deployed on this subject.
I configured the server vCenter through web interface device and I have connected using vSphere Client.
I created a data center, but when I try to add a host, I get "ERROR: the request exceeded."
Connection with vSphere client directly to the ESXi host works.I can connect using SSH to the ESXi host.
I have disabled the firewall on the ESXi host.
I have read many articles on the kbase but nothing helped me to solve this problem.
You have any ideas?
I finally got to understand.
It seems like my vmware workstation is not connected to the esxi as a physical host in my local network host, and so I was able to ping it unit of vCenter Server (but it worked the other way around, and that's why I thought it was ok).
After the connection to the physical LAN of VMware workstation settings, everything worked fine.

Looks like a known bug. Can read, then dup radar 23820480 directly with Apple. If you're not familiar, this site Open Radar is not Apple, but hosts bug reports that users have sent to connected with Apple. Different people who are connecting to with Apple bug reports will duplicate their reports. It is a good place to look for known problems.

I recently made a copy of a hard drive virtual server ESXI 3.5 and Infrastructure customer. The copy looks like to she went through fine and I can see the files via customer infrastructure both through the console.
Oddly enough when I go to add the VMDK file copied to a new hard drive on a new virtual machine can't see the VMDK file in the file browser. I tired this add manually to the vmx file but still no joy.
Someone has encountered this problem before?
Thank you
Nick

Cannot add a vmdk file to existing machine
We have received a customer vmdk file that they want us to add to one of their existing virtual machines. After downloading it in the virtual machine data store, trying to add, it doesn't show. It can only be seen if I create a new virtual machine and choose the drive as a system disk. However, then do not start. The vmdk file did not come with a configuration file. Does anyone know how to get around this problem?
If you have found this or other useful information, please consider awarding points to 'Correct' or 'useful '.Gregg Robertson, VCP3, 4, MCSE, MCSA, MCTS, MCITP
I assume that you have only the "die" vmdk file, not the smaller descriptor vmdk which explains why you can see in the VI Client (the descriptor file is what you actually see when you search a VMDK file, not the flat file / data file) once you've imported it. If the file came from Vmware Server or Workstation, it should still have a file descriptor with it - without it you are stuck. If you don't have two files, I'm not sure you can convert using Vmware convertor - you must try this one by yourself according to the previous tips.
You can try to recreate the VMDK descriptor for the flat file. There is a VMware KB on how to proceed:
If you found this helpful, please consider awarding points

Hello, I downloaded and installed the new FREE VMware Server 2 on Windows Vista.
The only customization I did was to change the target folder to C:\VMwareServer2
There is a desktop icon VMware Server Home Page , I think it's supposed to allow me to manage VMware Server 2 BUT:

Was not able to connect, the connection was refused when attempting to contact ramblewood:8333.

Gerry,
Looks like you have one of two problems:
The VMware Server service does not work. You can check this by opening Windows Services console (start > run > services.msc) and find names of service starting with "VMware".... »
Your hostname cannot solve on your local machine. Try going to https://localhost:8333 / ui /

VMware server 2.0 - cannot import vmware images for inventory
I reinstalled my server from scratch (Ubuntu 8.04, 64-Bit including VMware server 2.0 build 122956).
The installation program is fine and I can access my server with the VI 2.5 client. Unfortunately, I can't import my virtual machines through the VI client. The manual States that should be a link named "add the Virtual Machine to inventory. Unfortunately, I can only create new ones or enter maintenance mode (in the command window).
I have just nownoticed that the web front end to VMware server offers this option.
Therefore, it is no more a question but could someone else help to find a quick answer to his problem.
With your host selected in the left pane, right-click on the data store and select "Browse datastore" (see screenshot). Find the .vmx file, right click and select "add to the inventory.
If your virtual machines are not in the 'standard' default data store, copy them or create a new data store that includes the folders with your virtual machines.

Cannot save the virtual machine in VMWare Server 2
Hi all:
I created a VM (12.1 OpenSuSE 32bits) in VMWare Workstation 7; then I copied it to a host VMWare Server 2.
When I try to save the virtual machine via the web, the server fails (or at least interrupts the response from Web page), so I tried to save it via command line.
After searching a bit I found this:
The question is now that I can't find any vmware-cmd anywhere, and when I run vmware-vim-cmd I get the following error:
vmh2: / data/vmachines/postgresql-box # vim - vmware - cmd solo/registervm /data/vmines/postgresql-box/postgresql-box.vmx
Connection failed: vim.fault.NoPermissionSo I'm stuck... someone can help me?
BTW: what is ESX, ESXi and what version of ESXi is included in VMWare Server 2?
Thank you very much
Luis
I can't tell you exactly what are the causes of the problem. What I would try (a solution) is to create a new virtual machine in VMware Server with the same specifications as the original one, then copy the two files hard in the new virtual machine folder and edit the .vmx file for the new VM 'OpenSuSE - 12.1 - cl1 - 000001.vmdk' use as its virtual drive.

VMWare Server 2. How to add new series numbers?
Good afternoon
I have already installed VMWare Server. When I try to run a new additional virtual machine or try to run a vmx file, always get the following message:
"Error: there are not enough licenses installed to perform the operation."
More data: power StatePowered off the OSOther 2.6 x Linux (32-bit) hardware virtual VersionVersion 4 VM updated DNS available NameNot
I tried with multiple guest virtual machines, still the same message... then...
Looks like I have no permit, then I downloaded from this URI: http://register.VMware.com/content/registration.html , 50 licenses.
Well, I got a list of serial number 50 this way: XXXXX-XXXXXX.
XXXXX-XXXXXX...
but... no idea where to put them? !!! I gaze upward in the path, but I can't find any file, I also tried to display the Tomcat logs but nothing, docs wanted...
That is the question:where should I put this serial numbers?
Thank you.
I know that there was a problem with the 2.0.0 server that did not
You then enter serials in the user interface. Don't know if this has been fixed
2.0.1 or not.
Uninstall, then reinstall, then enter the serial number during installation.

Import of existing virtual machines to VMware server
My company has several virtual machines created with VMware Server 2.0. We want to do a proof of concept for virtualization in production using ESXi environment. Instead to install guest OS on a new machine of ESXi freash, is it possible to import a virtual machine created in VMware Server 2.0? This should earn a quite some time. Also, if possible, ESXi accesses a UBS device to copy the files of the virtual machine locally, that is, a USB HDD? If this is not the case, can use us the VM converter to move to ESXi?
Thanks for your help.
RC
Check the converter. Probably the easiest option.

Cannot run appliance virtual 64-bit on 64-bit capable of vmware server
Kind regards
I have VMware Server 2.0, running on a dell d630 latitue 32 - bit XP Pro on a windows-based
Intel T7100 with EM64T and VT enabled cpu. According to the processor verification tool
given here,
my host is able to run 64-bit virtual
machines.
However, when I try to start virtual appliance, he repeats:
Your CPU does not support long mode.
Use a 32-bit distribution.
I received the DVD of installation of the unit and tried to create a new virtual machine based on 64-bit RHEL5 (i.e. which, in my view, that the device is from), I had the same problem. I attach a log file of one of these for your convenience.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Network card works no-Windows home server on VMWare server 2.0.1
I installed Windows Home Server on VMWare server 2.0.1 and the card in Device Manager Ethernet OS says "this device cannot start (code 10)". Device Manager shows AMD PCNET Family PCI Ethernet Adapter and the current drivers are also installed. I installed the Home Server by selecting other 32 bit OS in the virtual machine. Also, I removed the network card and reinstalled the adapter in the control panel of VMWare. It shows connected and I fixed it to connect at power on, it is also a bridge connection. I don't know what to do or check. I thought to reinstall the operating system by choosing server 2003 32-bit for Windows Home server is based on this. It's probably something simple. Anyone have any ideas?
Close the comments. Edit the vmx by hand file and change the line ethernet0.virtualDev = "vlance" to "e1000" (add the line if it does not exist). Back-light the prompt and install the driver for Intel E1000 network map.
