Error 651 ethernet but ok when wireless

I bought an ASUS laptop 8 months ago with Windows 7 installed. It was working fine when connected by ethernet to a router, just recently (maybe a month ago), that I turned on my laptop and it showed that it was not connected. So, I restarted and still the problem. I went through a trouble shooting process to shut down the computer and disconnect the cable from the computer is off the router for a few minutes then plugged everything and checked, still does not work. So, I decided to use a netbook, I had to check that maybe it was the cable, it was not. I plugged the modem with the ASUS, and it did not work. So, now that I knew that it was something to do with the computer, I started studying why. I noticed that I didn't have a "connection to the local network' just a"manage wireless networks", 'change the map settings' and change advanced sharing settings. So, I tried maybe set up a new connection to the router with the ethernet and every time I tried to set up a new network to the router, I got a message "error 651". I was confused, so I searched through my wifi online - since I've always had the wifi - and I continued to get something on exchanging information with Vista drivers driver but why would I want to change a new operating system with an old driver? I don't know why I do not have a 'Connection to the local network' tab or even connect to the ethernet connection? Same connection when I use Linux, it connects via ethernet. Anyone can shed some light on my problem? If you want more info I can try to give it do you. I went into Device Manager, but I still can't find a local connection tab. I know usually automatic Windows to connect to the device its connected to.

Hi JoeJ1986,

  • Did you try to run the troubleshooter and to uninstall and reinstall the network card using the steps above?

Connection to the local network should be present even if its connected through wireless. However, try to uninstall the network adapter, and then reinstall it and check if it works.

Alternatively, you can try to check if the network connection and the list of network services are started and set to automatic. To do this follow the steps below:

  1. Click Start.
  2. In the start search box type services.msc and press enter
  3. In the services window, do scroll down to the network connection.
  4. Right-click on it and click Properties.
  5. Check if the startup type is set to automatic, otherwise it is set to automatic.
  6. Click the Start button, this will start network connection services.
  7. Click on apply and Ok.

Repeat this procedure for the network list service and check that it helps.

I hope this helps. Let us know the result.

Thank you and best regards,

Your help is really appreciated for the entire community, thank you.

    Hi MrBean344,

If I was wrong, you will get the error for GetAttributes... while building the project. Am I wrong?

If so, then I think it was due to the long way to have more than 256 characters. Can you please try to save your project in the short path such as C:\ and rebuild the package?

I think that after doing this, error is not displayed and application is virtualized.

    Original title: error 651

    Hi Antonio,.

Are you using a 3rd party antivirus application on your computer?

Error 651 indicates the Modem (or another connection device) has reported an error. Refer to these steps in the order in which they are presented, and check.

    • Reset the TCP/IP settings.
    • If you are using a portable computer, make sure that the wireless switch or button is turned on.
    • Replace the RAS PPPoE driver:
      1. Open an administrator command prompt.
      2. Select all the code below, then right-click and click on copy:
      3. TAKEOWN /F "" C:\Windows\system32\drivers\raspppoe.sys".
        ICACLS "C:\Windows\system32\drivers\raspppoe.sys" / grant administrators: F
      4. Right click in the command prompt window, and then click on paste.
      5. Press ENTER.
      6. Once it is finished, close the command prompt.
      7. Go to the following folder:
        C:\Windows\System32\Drivers
      8. Rename the raspppoe.sys raspppoe2.sys
      9. Right-click on the following file and click on save target as / Save link as: old
        RAS PPPoE Driver.
      10. Save it in the folder C:\Windows\system32\drivers.
      11. Restart the computer.
    • If you use a Modem, get the latest driver.
    • Reset your router.
    • Re-install your network card drivers.

Refer to the following for more information on reset TCP /IP.

I suggest that power you cycling your Modem and router might solve the problem, here are the steps:

1 save all your current work, close all open applications, then shut down your computer. Wait a minute.
    2. Firstly, turn off your router and wait a few minutes.
    3. turn off your modem.
    4. disconnect all the Ethernet cables are connected to the router and the modem and the PC.
    5. reconnect them and ensure that there is no connection drop between them.
    6. now, turn on your PC and let it boot.
    7. turn on the modem first and once it is initialized, switch on the router.

  • I keep getting error 651 trying to make a wired connection

original title: I keep getting error 651

    I keep getting error 651.

I replaced the system of rasPPPeO several times with a workgroup file in Vista and still no connection. After the file system is replaced, I get a new icon in a wide area network wan miniport for Device Manager. When this driver is searched, windows gives me an error of installation. Its a out of the box motherboard, all the drivers are up to date. However, no link. I am connected via the wireless, but I need a wired connection. How can I solve this frustrating problem?

You have posted in forum Windows 7, saying: you have replaced a file system with that of Vista.  That sounds like it's likely your problem.  You don't have anyway normally just replace system files.  You install the drivers. I suggest that undo you what you've done for system files and get the correct driver for your NETWORK card installed.

    Good luck.

    Hello

I'm so stupid with this stuff so please make all responses for a 3 year old can understand.

The problem - since a few years, I used a desktop computer and connected to the internet via modem wide empty tape and USB connection. Last week bought a Satellite C660D installed Windows 7 os provided and tried to connect with my modem, but failed miserably.

I get the error message 651 but do not understand why.
I use wired ethernet (because my friend does on their laptop) and tried the cable on their system, and it worked very well, so I don't think it's that.

If someone is kind enough to explain what I do, I'll be able to keep this computer connected to the internet with usb and connect the laptop with an ethernet at the same time, so I can read the instructions while I go or I'll have to print the instructions and disconnect the Office before retrying the laptop? Yes, I'm dumb and I'm not even blonde, lol

Thanks in advance for those who have the patience to try to help me.

  • Error 651 - Help me please

I have a desk top, Windows 7, keeps changing my supplier to Intel - Network 2.  I tried all the instructions advised on this site of the community without result.  I called Microsoft Support and they said they could fix it, but it would cost me $50 or more if I allowed them to access my computer.

It of just crazy, they know that the problem exists in their program, why should it cost me money for them to fix it - sell me a fix it program for up to $150 - when I refused, that was the end of the conversation.

I want to go back to my provider Cogeco Broadbent... but it does not take any measures.  I'm totally upset with Microsoft, they're making a fortune on a program with a glitch in ity and then want money to solve the problem.
