Error code 1606

I have the same problem as described below in the yvonnelt note. Can Antone help me understand what I can do to dispel it? Your help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Al

I also get the message when you try to install the updates as Adobe 9 and products like windows cleaner install.  Looking at kb886549 I'm nervous following the list provided for windows vista, because it does not seem logical to me.  It says staff should read ...\PrintHood and vicinity of impression should read... \Documents.  Currently, my Registry shows personal as... shortcuts.. .documents and neighborhood of ...\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Printer like these seem to be more logical to me.   I currently find myself with no Adobe and therefore cannot access any PDF file anywhere.
I too put recentlyt updated to Explorer 8.  We are of course the list for Windows Vista is correct?  also the list of applies to includes only the programs that I don't have.  I am running vista Home premium service pack 1, office home and Student 2007 (that works) and explorer 8.  I have windows live one care as my security system.

Additional question relates to paragraph 8. in kb886549.  This paragraph applies to Vista?  The value data show % ALLUSERSPROFILE%\...; in my registry value data for some said % PUBLIC%\... and for other % program Data%\...

I really want to be sure of the information before you change the registry values because I don't want to create a terminal problem for my computer.

Grateful for the help.

  • I receive the error code 1606

I cannot fix the error code 1606.  I'm not very computer.

This problem occurs because there is incorrect entries in the Shell folder of the user who is logged on to Microsoft Windows. When Windows Installer goes to the sale of Shell folder of the user who is logged on to the computer, Windows Installer cannot locate the correct entry. The solution is inhttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/886549.

The steps to correct this problem involve editing the Windows registry.  Change the settings of the REGISTRY can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the REGISTRY settings configuration can be solved. Changes to these settings are at your own risk. I suggest that you first back up your registry as follows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Back-up-the-registry.

Here are the steps to fix it.

    1. click on start, run, typeregedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

    2. look for the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell dossiers\

3 remove the entries that show the path that is listed in the error message.

886549 KBhttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/886549: Regedit open again. In the left pane, click User Shell Folders, point tonew, click expandable string value, type the value name that you want to restore (AppData) and then press ENTER. Right click on this value, clickchange, type the value in the value data for the value name box, and then clickOK. The value data must be: % USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming.

Step 8 KB 886549 suggests that you also check the values in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders. However, by fixing my problem, I had not to change values in the registry key. If this does not work, follow ALL the steps in the referenced article.

  • Receive the error code: 1606 when trying to install the program

I received an Error 1606 times before and went through the process of editing the registry, and it solved the problem I had.  However, now when I try to install the 2008 edition of turbo tax I get a different error message 1606.  But when I go into the registry, all entries are fine, they harmonize perfectly with the entries in the table provided by Microsoft.

How can I solve this problem, if solutions are not even necessary?

  • Error Code 1606 when trying to load photos, messenger or updates

I'm missing or in other words, inadvertantly deleted, item or app that I need on my computer to be able to download pictures, yahoo messenger, webcam and I can not load my computer updates or can I update java.  I usually get a 1606 Code when I try.  I tried to implement everything that my lame brain can think of short of put in the shop!  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I tried to restore my computer and have tried different programs to eradicate the virus or spyware.  Also, my computer is running slow turtle.  I'm out of ideas.
