  This problem occurs if the Windows security .dll files are incorrectly registered.

  To resolve this problem, you can perform the two methods of troubleshooting, check if the problem is resolved.
  Method 1:
  Run (Checksur.exe) system update readiness tool.
  To do this, follow these steps:
  1. download and run the system update readiness tool. This tool runs an ad hoc analysis of inconsistencies that might prevent future maintenance operations.   Hmmm... I would recommend so then boot from the Vista DVD and execution of the restoration of the system from the recovery environment. See here for more information on how to get there.   After that Windows application updated yesterday, Windows disabled my Nvidia GeForce 6800 graphics with code 43. I reinstalled the latest Nvidia drivers, but the error persists. I tried to uninstall the update, but still the Windows system restore fails no matter how far back, I try.

  Try these steps and check the result.

  Step 1: Uninstall the security software

  a. see Uninstall or change a program

  b. once the security software is uninstalled, restart the computer.

  Very Important: Be sure to reinstall the security software after installing Windows updates.

   

  Step 2: Download and install the update for your Windows system preparation tool

  a. see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

  b. download the good update for your Windows and install it successfully.

  c. restart the computer so that the changes take effect.

   

  Step 3: Install updates

  a. connect to the computer as an administrator.

  b. Click Start, type Windows Update, click Windows Update.

  d. restart the computer after each update is installed.

  If I understand correctly, you cannot install Windows Update and receive the error code 80070424. Please let us know since when you're experincing this problem? Also let us know if the Windows Update has already worked on this computer.

  You can try to do the following to reset the Windows Update components.

  1 stop in the Background Intelligent Transfer Service and the Automatic Updates service. To do this, follow these steps:

  a. click on start / all programs/accessories. Right-click "Command Prompt" and select "run as Administrator". Click on 'Continue' in the UAC prompt.

  b. at the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:

  net stop wuauserv
  net stop bits

  2. rename the folder "Catroot2" and the folder "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution". To do this, follow these steps:

  Type the following commands and press ENTER after each command.

  net stop cryptsvc
  Ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 oldcatroot2
  Ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
  net start cryptsvc
   
  3. save the files used by Windows Update and Microsoft Update. To do this, follow these steps:

  At the command prompt, type the following commands, press ENTER after each command, and then click OK every time that you receive a verification message:
   
  regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll
  regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll
