  I recently installed Microsoft Essentials and the download has not completed the process.  "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem.

  Your XP system is lack of 4 registry settings for windows 4 services:
  Bits
  Wuauserv
  Wscsvc
  SharedAccess

  Downlooad and SAVE the 4 after your desktop computer registry files {or a single folder on your system}

  For each of the 4, one at a time, to right click on the reg file and select Merge.

  When everything is done, Logoff and restart Windows.

  Then, run a manual check for updates in Windows Update, etc, etc...
  When you get to Windows Update, a custom scan updates. Take (accept) those marked critical or Important.
   
  If it has updates Silverlight or Net Framework, select not them and leave it for one pass later.
  Those that are marked as "optional" decline.
   
  Have infinite patience so that it scans and it's work.
   
  When you are prompted to restart Windows, please do. Allow it to restart.

  I am trying to install Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 on a Windows XP SP3 machine but I get an error 0x8007007e installation. If anyone can help?

  I completely deleted the previous machine 'McAfee' anti-virus software using the McAfee removal tool.

  There is no other antivirus on the computer.

  I tried a selective mode installation

  I used the command MSIEXEC/REGSERVER

  None of them have worked.

  I noticed that, after the installation of Forefront failure the Windows Installer service has stopped, but restart it does not the installation to be successful.

  I restarted my computer earlier because it was running slow, once it was finally restarted and logged back in I noticed that Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection icon at the right end of the bottom of the screen, on the toolbar, was red. I opened it to the top and in red text, there was a message saying "Forefront Endpoint Protection is not monitoring your computer because the service of the program stopped. "You must restart it now" so I clicked on the big red button 'Start now', it came with a warning that to say "could not start the Forefront Endpoint Protection service. The specified service does not exist as an installed service. »

• Update Microsoft Access impossible after disk crash

  I am running Windows XP Pro.  After a drive failure, I recovered using recovery HP which had been established 2 years previous discs.  Then I restored my data backups.  I now need assistance in several areas:

  1. I'm unable to access Microsoft Updates.  I gives me an error message indicating that I am not allowed to register on the site.  My o/s was purchased with the workstation
  2. I am unable to logoff or shut down the workstation.  (it seems to stop and I'm unable to click icons after I have try to logoff) I need to physically close the workstation by pressing the power button.
  3. I lost IE7 and all updates I had before the crash.

  ?? How can I access the MS Update site? - and is it possible to get all the updates that are lost including IE7 by CD/DVD rather than trying to download them (dial-up modem)
  ?? Is there a setting in the Management Console which would affect the ability of closing session or the shutdown of the PC?

  If you have windows installed on your computer security essentials, then you will not be able to install Windows defender. Windows Security Essentials has antispyware component installed.

  You get the error because you have installed MS Security Essentials, which has its own function to antimalware. You don't need or want to install Windows Defender, too. Leave MS Security Essentials installed and do not turn it off.
