Error of the IDE controller after using vCenter Converter Standalone

I usually get the following two messages when you click on the "Edit Settings... "the virtual machine created by using the operation"convert the Machine ":

"An IDE controller is found but the virtual machine does not support this option."

After clicking on the 'OK' button, I get this:

"A flat backup option is not found."

After clicking OK, the open Virtual Machine properties and hard disk 1 is summarized as 'not supported '.

This occurred during the conversion of a source type of powered on the machine to a virtual machine of VMware Infrastructure, but also a source of VMware Infrustructure to another virtual machine of VMware Infrustructure.

It can be the cause and the VM may be edited to prevent this. Happen using a Windows 2003 server that is powered on the source machine and a XP Pro Sp3 virtual machine running on ESX. XP has been installed directly as a virtual machine using an ISO file. The converted XP machine powers up to a GUI. I tried other machines, but the conversion operation fails at the beginning, probably because it was "multiboot" machines.

Thank you

Homerun.

    Hello:

I moved a Windows 2008 R2 VM from a 5.1 ESXi host to an ESXi host 5.5 using vCenter Converter Standalone.  The c: / drive system passed largely to where I now have to extend the volume.  Is this normal/expected behavior?  Perhaps the conversion/move creates temporary files I can delete?

    Thanks much for the ideas.

This is not the expected behavior.

Size of the disk is defined during the conversion and which will not increase by its own during conversion.

Now, you need to V2V, if you want to reduce the volume.

  • Internet connection lost because of the error of the Ethernet controller after installation of the OS

OK, I installed Windows XP3 Pro on Windows XP2 Pro on my computer of friends because of severe virus problems. However after installation, the controller Ethernet, video card, etc. also took out drivers. The computer manufacturer is no longer available, and some drives are available with these drivers. So is it possible to get the drivers on the system in order to restore the Internet connection? How can I determine what drivers to install?

Open "Device Mamager" and search for points of question marks (?). Also make a list of all the drivers that are listed.

If you still have a restore point made just before you install SP3, I'd
Uninstall SP3 and then use the system restore, I hope that the combination will
get you where you want to be.

Now open the Device Manager"again and compare the list of SP3 for what is currently enrolled. Now you have a list of these drivers you need.

    Hi all

Once the converter VMware-converter-en - 5.5.1 - 1682692 does not work, with a touch of friend uninstall the 5.5 version of Converter Standalone Client, look for the VMware converter version - 4.0.0 - 146302 and install this version to the other machine. No not that I had to be Converter, but the windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

After this race, the Standalone Client 4.4 Converter and everything work fine.

Now I have the P2V converted and good machine, as was the real operation!

    I thank all of you.

    Hello.

That's a likely scenario.  There was a 10.1 change that had t be solved with - fPIC, but that latest IDEs use models that account for it properly.

  • Save an ESXi 4.0 virtual using the VCenter Converter Standalone

I'm having a 'moment' here because it's been a while since I've done it.

I have a Windows Server 2008 virtual machine running on ESXI 4.1. I want to make a one-time backup of the virtual. It's a Terminal Server I don't need of daily backups, etc.

I have it in mind that I can do this with the VCenter Converter Standalone. I downloaded and installed version 5 of this.

When I tried to communicate with the virtual virtual "Machine VMWare Infrastructure" using the converter drop-down I get this:

Unable to reach the specified host 192.168.254.154. The host may not be available... or management on this host services do not react.

The IP address is correct. Am I missing something here? Management services? I put the VM converter on this virtual server Client?

The goal is to get the hard local machine in order to restore it in case of failure.

    Thank you very much.

    Mike Gallery

you will need to have comments turned off for export as OVF, but you don't need to use the converter.

Also, in the future, if you use the converter and a source of 'VMware Infrastructure virtual machine', the virtual machine must thus put off.

.. .and to return the FVO in your inventory... File - deploy OVF

  • Restore-error vCenter Converter Standalone / Server

    Hi guys,.

It's my first post in the VMware community and I'm looking forward to many useful discussions. Back to my problem...

I have a serious issue in our virtual environment. Last weekend, I had to restore a virtual machine to a backup vcb. My first idea was to import the machine with the vCenter Converter 4.1.0. So far so good... I chose the .vmx of the virtual machine, which lies directly on the hard disk server vCenter ( file://hostname/e $/vm/vm.vmxUNC path) connection references: domain\administrator (access rights are set correctly)

After a few seconds, I get the error message: cannot open the file file://hostname/e $/vm/scsi0-0-0-vm.vmdk (the name of the file is of course correctly)... ok, now I'm going to started to sweat... not only for the reason that it was Sunday morning, no, the virtual machine is our production database, and I could not restore it O.o

Okay, the next idea was to import the machine with the vCenter Converter standalone, that is installed on my workstation. Source type is again Image backup, machine virtual file is always on
hostname/e$/VM/VM.vmx--... we'll press next... and what past? Error: agent.internal.fault.FileOpenError.summary... have I said already, that the virtual machine is our most important server?

2 hours later, I finished the installation of the new database server that was not the way things, I want to do...

Monday: I couldn't believe it, the backup is corrupt... so I copied the files on my local drive on my computer and tried again... what my eyes see? It work fine? Now, I really couldn't believe it... If files is located directly on the vCenter server, it does not work and if the files are on my computer, it works correctly?

can anyone help my in this matter? I really have no explanation for such a mistake...

Thanks in advance for your help

  • VMware vcenter converter standalone physical conversion to virtual stuck to the completion of 81% for several days

Hello everyone I have an interesting question, I'm physical conversion to virtual pointing to the new virtual directly on the server esx conversion would set schedule for a day. But now, it's just stuck at 81% and not go further! I don't get any errors of ideas? questions are there a basis that I can look to see what is happening? Is there a way I can fix it without start over again. There are enough resources on the destination esx I had to change the hard drive space for destination and ram, but done nothing radical imprint more small which I think should do better.

It's an interesting case, you have here. I guess that conversion is complete, but somehow you do not see or a deadlock occurred.

Anyway you will probably be able to export logs to the customer. Go to the directory of newspapers to %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\logs (for WP/W3K) or vCenter Converter Standalone\logs %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\VMware\VMware (for Vista +) and find the log of the last worker (vmware-converter-worker - .log #). The status of the conversion is currently connected. Take a look, or that she has finished, is still running, is stuck.

If he has you can try restarting the client and/or server converter service. Do not stop the worker service unless you are sure that there is no conversion running!

  • Can't access file system host (MAC) shared in VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client when wanting to create a VMware image (Windows 7 in Parallels virtual machine running on a MAC) for the option of machine Powered On.

File HOST (Mac) system is currently shared in the Parallels virtual machine and is accessible through Windows Explorer and works correctly in the Virtual Machine environment, however, after installing vCenter Converter application on the Windows virtual machine these shared folders are not accessible from the conversion tool in the selection of the target destination of the file VMware (s). I can't select an existing folder on drive "C:" to write the image so that there is not enough space available for the VMware image and it must be written in a different file system, while the image is being created.

Anyone know a way around it to show the target to write the image on the host (MAC OS) file system or is it a bug?

Thanks for the reply.  It seems that the maps are not displayed if they were created as actions by the hosts.  When I created a mapping directly from Windows, then this mapping appeared and the conversion worked fine.

    Welcome to the community,

It is most likely a problem with the virtual drive created for the converted virtual machine controller. Unless you specify the correct controller ("LSI Logic SAS' for Windows 7) type in the Converter Wizard, you can end up with an IDE controller.
