error UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME - XP won't start

When you try to start a Satellite Pro A60 I get an error on a blue screen unmountable_boot_volume and PC loops without having to start. It does not start safe mode, or start from the last working Configuration.

It runs Windows XP Profesional SP2.

I don't want to reformat the drive and lose the data until I tried another everyhing!

I think that I need a CD bootable with XP on it, that will allow me to access the recovery console and issue the chkdsk /r command as described in the
http://support.Microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;297185). The Toshiba Recovery CD supplied does not allow me to do.

Question 1. How can I get, download or create a bootable XP CD to allow me to do? I'm computer literate and I to do on other PCs.

Question2. The Toshiba Recovery CD has an option called Recovery Utility for the PC Experts only. Where can I get a manual telling me how to use it?

Question 3. Someone at - it other ideas on how to solve the problem?

Question 4. I can upload an image of a Microsoft boot disk, but the A60 Pro doesn't have a floppy drive. If I buy a USB attached floppy disk, will I be able to boot the PC from the attached USB floppy?

Question 5. I think the data on the disk are probably OK, and it's just startup files that are corrupt and slaughter it boot. Is it possible to plug the drive into a single PC and read data from it?

I solved the problem as follows:

1 I fortunately had access to a reinstallation of office he's D * PC CD D * ll. It was for XP Home Edition SP1 (the Toshiba is a XP Professional SP2 running), but I decided it would be OK to use it.

2 place the CD in the CD drive and now switch on the F12 key. This opens the screen allowing you to right_arrow anywhere on the CD player, which tells the laptop to boot from the CD this_time_only.

3 a message appears "to boot from the CD, press any key now...". "If you do not press a button fast enough, he decided that you want to boot from the hard drive...

4 XP boot CD. After some time (one minute?) you get a blue screen with the system above Recovery Console. Type r and press enter - it takes you in REPAIR mode.

5 after some time (1-2 minutes?) the c: > prompt. It's the first bit of good news: he can see the C drive!

Press and 6 type chkdsk/r come. It's the CHECK_DISK command, with the REPAIR option. Have patience - it took about 60-70 minutes to complete, during which the full report % showed inconsistent numbers - 30% > 50 > 60% > 62% > 50% > 60%... etc. When it finishes it reported that he had found errors and fixed them.

7 remove the CD and boot normally. The laptoop, boots and no data has been lost.

Why suppliers such as Toshiba do not provide a restore CD that allows him to do? The only way to repair it with the Toshiba provided that CD is to re - install the XP software that formats the drive and lose all data.

If you can't beg, borrow or steal either a good, complete the CD of Microsoft XP Installation or a supplier, one (like D * ll) that allows you to do this, you can apparently make a bootable CD by following the instructions in the "Bart way to create bootable CD-ROMs" at http://nu2.nu/bootcd/#whatis. I have not tried.

    To me, it looks like a serious hardware malfunction

    You could try to load the default settings in the BIOS. Enter in the BIOS, and then press the F9 key to load defaults. Then save & exit the BIOS and try to start again.

    The HARD drive is recognized correctly in the BIOS? If so I try a recovery disk Toshiba recovery installation and check if the problem is hardware or software partners.

    Status 0xc000012f is "STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_NOT_MZ" - "the file specified image did not have the correct format, it did have an initial MZ." (anecdote: binary windows start with MZ - the initials of Mark Zbikowski - who was a promoter of the MS-DOS product)

    That, with "a knownDLL verification failed."  Basically telling you that you have corrupted files on your system.  Any chance you are able to boot into safe mode or safe mode with command prompt to run SFC/scannow?  Can you somehow shoot out of the system event logs and check the events worthy of attention?  Are you all able to run chkdsk on the drive through the command prompt in the System Recovery Options?

When I tried to open subsequently, it won't start and the error message is empty (other than the! sign and the "ok" button). I can't find anything in the knowledge base supprt data for help. I do not want to reinstall because then I will use my second and final installation.

    However, now a Windows Update does not work.  Security Center Windows were told to go to control panel > system and use the Automatic Updates tab.  But, if I go to control panel > system, the Automatic Updates tab does not appear.

    I also went to the control panel > Services.  Tried to start the automatic updates service.  Received this error message: could not start the service automatic updates on Local computer.  Error 126: The specified module could not be found

    In the thread above, I was following the post on 30 August.  According to Option A, I completed step 5 for the uninstallation of McAfee Security.  At this time, my network card has stopped working.  On the recommendation of the officer, I posted to the Malwarebytes forum.  The officer determined Malwarebytes that I don't have a malicious software.  I ended up posting on forum McAfee to get my network card works again.  Then I reinstalled McAfee and start to run Windows Update.

    I started with Option A, step 8 to reset Internet Explorer using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737.  The difficulty it has worked very well.

    Then Option A, step 9 says reset Windows Update using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058.  When I ran the difficulty in default or aggressive mode, I got an error message saying: he cannot start wuauserv.  The message asks me to verify that the user has privileges to take this step.  Well, I checked through user accounts who am the only one user set up on this PC and I have administrator privileges.  Help me please run this difficulty or recommend another way to get Windows Update works again.

    My HP Pavilion dv6000 won't start.

    When I turn on my laptop it goes through the normal stages of start-up, however it comes up with "configuration updates: stage 3 of 3-0% complete.". Do not turn off your computer.

    It remains on this page for a few minutes with the hourglass of thing going, but nothing happens - it stays on 0%

    The computer then turns off and turns back on again and repeat the process of a second later.

    I can't clear the checkpoint!

    This morning, I thought that it would be alright because instead of going to the screen updates it came with the users screen. I clicked on my profile, entered my password, but then it froze. ??!!??

    So I have held down the power button, it has left a few minutes and turned back on but not luck.

  • New Satellite P300 won't start.

    I hope you can give me some advice. This week, I bought a new Toshiba P300 GU with Vista Home Premium. It worked fine for about 3 days, but now it won't start at all.

    Symptoms:

    * - Some LED lights blink for a second, then they stop again.
    * - No fan or drive noise.
    I tried to remove the battery and power cables and left the computer for a day before trying again. There is no difference except for a few plus-lumieres LED flashes for a second, the first time I try to start the computer. The next time I try, only a few lights flash again.

    After I discovered the startup problem I noticed that food is quite noisy. I also noticed that the machine has a small mark RENS in the plastic in the upper left above the screen. (Looks like a defect of manufacturing error or transport) You hardly notice the 1 cm small inconsistency in the plastic, but it doesn't look like a normal scratch.

    As I thought that food could be the cause of the problems because of the strange sounds, I brought the maschine to a PC technician today. He tested the food and said it was working normally, but he also said that this should not seem like that. He did not open the laptop, to not cause trouble about the Toshiba warranty.

    I bought the computer to the Denmark I wanted a Danish keyboard. However, I live in Portugal, where I use the computer. Where is the PC now.

    Do you recommend that I contact an ASP to the Portugal to fix the PC or do you propose I have return the PC to the merchant at the Denmark?

    The ASP will be able to exchange the screen and power supply that are not in the State, they must be good obviously both?

    First of all I must say I never had problems after 3 days of my new Toshiba laptop but these things happen and no manufacturing activity is perfect.

    In addition, I agree with you. I would bring the laptop to an ASP because it seems that this motherboard is defective but I do not know Mr. it's only my personal opinion, and therefore the laptop should be checked by a technician for laptop.

    As far as I know that the laptop is covered by 1 year international warranty and so I would contact the ASP in your country. Ask them if they can fix your computer laptop and if not, you must communicate with other ASP where you bought the laptop.
    I think this is the best solution because they can tell you what to do exactly.

  • Mac OS x won't start on mac pro esxi host

    We have the latest mac pro machine functioning as a construction of host 5.5.0 esxi 2718055.  We have setup the virtual Mac machine of the as a waiter in a magic triangle to our Mac OSX windows domain configuration.  Everything was up and running for some time now not really used because we delayed the purchase of our projected deployment Mac until this year.  I logged on today, and he says he has several updates and necessary to restart, so we issued the command reboot. Now the machine won't start upward.  It starts the boot process you see the Apple logo and progress bar starts moving on a 1/4 of the way and then it just turned off. I tried several of the commands below in the link, but nothing works, it just turns off. I tried to use my mac with vm ware fusion and the connection to the host and always change. I have triple checked that I am in the comments window active when you press these commands, but the problem is it only stays on during approximately 5 seconds then stops. I have removed from the inventory of esxi and re added, as well as restarted the ESXi host as well.  The virtual machine is sitting on the local storage of the esxi server.

    Okay, so I went through the list and now I got using the command option r. tried before but maybe I press the keys long enough.  I was using my mac book pro and pro fusion to do all this. Couldn't make it work when you use the client heavy vsphere on my windows machine. Repair disk permissions is grayed out. I ran check disk permissions and got a ton of errors, ran check disk and he stopped saying repair the disk. Ran repair disk and he stopped to say that he cannot repair the disk, backup as many files as possible, reformat the drive and restore your backup files.

    Is there another way to try to fix this sucker, or is he at this point a POS and build a new one?

    Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive

    HD recovery start: restart the computer after the ring, press on and hold down the COMMAND and R until the menu screen appears.

    Repair the hard drive and permissions: at startup, select in the main menu disk utility. Repair hard disk and permissions as follows.

    When the recovery menu appears, select disk utility and press the continue button. Disk utility charges and select Macintosh HD entry indented from the list on the left.  Click the first aid tab, and then click the repair disk button. If disk utility reports any errors that have been corrected, then again run repair disc until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, click repair permissions . Wait until the operation is complete, then quit disk utility and return to the main menu.

    Reinstall OS X: Select reinstall OS X and click on the continue button.

    Note : You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest to use Ethernet if possible because it's three times faster than Wi - Fi and more reliable.

    If you have no success with the above, try:

    Install or reinstall OS X from scratch

    Make sure that you have backed up your files because the following procedure will remove all of the hard drive.

    HD recovery start:

    Restart the computer and after the buzzer, press on and hold down the COMMAND and R until the menu screen appears.

    Erase the drive:

    1. select in the main menu disk utility and click on the continue button.

    2. once the charges of THE select your boot volume (usually Macintosh HD) in the

    list on the left. Click on the Erase tab in the main window of THE.

    3. set the type of format Mac OS extended (journaled). If necessary, click

    Security and button all the option data from scratch in a single pass. Click

    the clear button and wait until the process is complete.

    4 leave FROM and return to the main menu.

    Reinstall OS X: Select reinstall OS X and click on the install button.

    Note : You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest to use Ethernet if possible
