You will need to replace the hard drive. I hope that nothing else was damaged.

Good luck.

The T42 there the driver updates to make it compatible with Windows 10?

The CPU of 2 GHz in a T42 is a Dothan, so you will have no problem installing Windows 10 to 32-bit only, of course, it will boot from USB and he needs to pick up most often when installing devices. I recommend that you use the drivers of Windows Inbox instead of trying to force the very old drivers of the machine with compatibility/manual / installation.

However, with the latest versions of Windows 10, older GPU Radeon Mobility, as in the T4x/T6o series will result in a BSOD if you try to install the older drivers for Vista (Win7 modded). I came across this one a few weeks ago on a T60 and all my methods to have the machine accept old drivers because it failed. You might be stuck with the conduct of the display with the basic display driver Microsoft, which does not support the bases even if and to a proper resolution.

If you have the time and you want to experiment on the venerable T42, I recommend it. It's very fun.

    See you soon!

  • T42 on the fritz!

I have a huge problem. Recently, a hinge on the right side of the screen on my pad think broken T42.

I went to a technician and he told me it was normal wear and tear, so hinge became fragile and broke. but the huge problem that he later stressed the pressure put on the hinge that just happened to be on the same side as the son of connection to the screen. So now I have huge problems with the screen itself will come out and as well as audio, and nothing can do, but to turn it off. so now, I need to source a new cause of connection it will be hard to find here in Jamaica. Help please!

    P. S.

The hard drive is running, but it won't turn completely

Which could mean the local tech, is that the graphics chip (ATI Radeon) has broken links. The 'technology' used to attach the graphics chip on the motherboard is called BGA; matrix of marbles. There are hundreds of balls of tiny solder between the motherboard and the video chip. Due to the heat, flexation system and/or the use of lead-free solder, some of these connections welds can be broken. This leads to intermittent operation of the video display.

Another area which can also cause video problems is related to the water that connects video signals on the motherboard to the LCD screen. Your broken/loose hinge could cause damage to the water, so that might explain the graphic problems.

  • T42 can't see hard drive

Happy new year everyone, hope it was a good Christmas break.

In the hope of an expert; I have a Lenovo/IBM Thinkpad T42. The hard drive died so I replaced it. I bought a new hard drive and Windows 7. I can boot from the DVD and try to install but when I get to the section where I can choose where to install the OS I don't see the drive listed. I know the drive is good, as I tested it in another laptop and can see the drive in a caddy. I also see the drive in the BIOS, but I simply do not see as an option when you try to install the OS. The only option I have is to load a 3rd party driver to see if it works, but I've never had to do this before.

Any ideas to stop going me crazy and crying in the keyboard.

    Thanks in advance

    Martin

T42 does not have the above option in the BIOS as it was designed when the PATA disks were standard.

  • T43 RAM will go in a T42?

    Anyone know?

I want to upgrade my ram to 2 GB, need to know if T42 and T43 using the same memory modules live, or is there a difference please?

    AHA

    N °

T43 uses DDR2 RAM, while T42 uses DDR. Broaching is different, as well as other things, and force a type of RAM in a housing of the wrong type to fry the machine at the moment when you press the "power" button

    I hope this helps.

  • How to add a second hard drive in a T42

I have a T42 with a DVD/CD R / w. My current hard drive is 40 GB and it is running Windows XP Service Pack 3. I would like to install a second hard drive for extra storage. What do you recommend for an extra hard drive and can be installed in place of the removable DVD/CD drive? Because the currently installed DVD player uses the UltraBay, I think just remove and install additional hard drive in the UltraBay slot should be possible. Please notify. Thank you in advance.

  • T42 that LCD screens are compatible?

    Hi people

I cracked the display of my T42 and trying to find a replacement part.

The FRU for my LCD is 92 6737 P (which is curiously found in T43 not T42 to but anyway.)

What I need to get a replacement with exactly the same FRU or is it a wider range of

    fitting LCD screens?

I would be very happy if someone could help me with this issue, as I am very attached to my old machine

    one wouldn't want to replace.

You can use any 14 "SXGA + LCD of the T4x series the other FRU being 11 P 8346

    I hope this helps.

  • Arrested T42 wireless

T42, XP, Intel PRO Wireless 2200. Everything worked very well. PC locked up, I had to hold the power button for a while to close. Icon Wi - Fi and restarted showed no link (not yet gaining an address). Restarted several times with the same result. My T30 still connects fine so it's a matter of T42. No settings have changed. I've connected by cable, then disconnected result and wireless isn't always going. It's as if the adapter is not there. Right-click on the icon gives the option of usual remedy that never fails or let's me open network connections. It shows that the adapter works as it should. Ideas anyone?

Cancel. Seen the notice of another post which suggested uninstalling adapter and reinstall. It worked for me. Thank you!

  • T42 - USB + biometric controller driver problem

    Dear community,

This is my first post desperate, after talking to Lenovo technicians yesterday for more than 2 hours.

    That's happened?

I sent my T42 (2373-H6U, teacher of XP SP2) in and Lenovo BIOS update, replaced some plastics etc...

Last Thursday, I tried to move some data on my external hard drive, and it seemed to take forever. So I decided to restore the factory settings and did so yesterday. However, it still seemed that I have USB speed issues (in the Device Manager, the system recognizes the USB ports, but the speed is 1.1 instead of 2.0, who she was before sending them in.) and windows did not recognize the drivers of biometric processor...

    So what I did, I

    USB:

-ran PC doctor and he says that this usb device is not installed...

    -installed the chipset intel... http://www-307.IBM.com/PC/support/site.WSS/document.do?sitestyle=Lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-46058

-tried to install this but works not because it does not work on my system... WIN NT 4.0: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-4TQVCU

    What now?

    BIOMETRIC processor:

-anything yet, because I have not found a driver...

    Bottom line:

Lenovo said drop it again (still under warranty) but I have to LEAVE THE COUNTRY TUESDAY FOR a YEAR AND THEY DON'T want TO SHIP overseas!

Maybe one of you can enlighten us on that.

I'm sorry to say you need to send the machine. The Southbridge chip on the motherboard is a failure and the Board needs to be replaced or the chip in a re-ball. Good luck.

  • T42 HD replacement

    Who can help

The HD of my old T42 is about to die, so since I really want to keep this fantastic machine upward and run, I want to buy a new HD, my questions are:

Can I install an SSD in the new hard drive, I know that they are still expensive, but the small size is not too bad.

If I stick to the current P - ATA drive what size Max (good that now I have 40GB), the speed that I could install?

What is the recommended brand? I read some reviews where it was recommended that a 160 GB of WD, but I also read the many comments highlighting the low reliability of this HD brand.

    Thanks for your help

    Oscar

The few choices there are for the SSD on a PATA connection is not so good. All good SSD using a sata connection (model T60 +). I would stick with a 5400 RPM Seagate drive. I put one in my old T42 and according to Vista, he got a better score than me old records of 7200 RPM Hitachi supplied with the machine. The performance gap between 5400 and 7200 RPM is not as great as in the past.

  • 1.25 GB of RAM - Acceptable for a T42?

Hello and seasons greetings to all.

I recently bought a used T42p (2373) on XP that came with 512 MB of RAM. He ran like an eagle, however, I decided to update my RAM with a 1 GB extra, which totals to 1.25 (a 1 GB more 256 MB). The 1 GB memory in question is a DDR-333 PC2700 333 MHz and 200 pins. I can't be sure what the 256 is, although I suspect that it was originally shipped with the laptop if that helps.

Windows recognizes the additional memory, but acted as I made the change. First, he takes his time on the Welcome screen when booting (about one minute to two minutes) and host process errors are frequent when I open certain programs and folders.

My question is that my situation memory is acceptable, should it work with the T42 or I would be better to remove the piece of 256 and it works on 1 GB? I searched around and haven't found the answers.

Hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

Just to let you know, I realized what was fast on my laptop. It wasn't a faulty memory but AVG Antivurus! Well. Furthermore, I believe that the host process errors are caused by my sound card, who chooses to work in his own time.

Get a Thinkpad sure taught me a lot! I must say after 4/5 weeks I love him to bits.

    Kind regards

  • IBM ThinkPad T42 would not connect to my home network secure wireless

Configuration IP of Windows __An internal error has occurred: a device attached to the system is not functioning. __Please contact support services technical microsoft for more help.

Others have had a similar problem, but I tried the solutions that have worked for them, without success.

All of a sudden, my IBM ThinkPad T42 wouldn't connect to my home network (WPA2-PSK) secure wireless.  It would be either (1) stay in a constant state of "acquiring network address" or (2) do not recognize networks wireless in the range.  Sometimes, it would connect to a nearby unsecured network, but the network would still not appear in the list of available wireless networks.  So I tried to connect directly to the ethernet, which also did not work.  I then ran the ipconfig/all command at the command prompt and got the message:

    Windows IP configuration
An internal error has occurred: a device attached to the system is not functioning.
Contact support services technical microsoft for more help.
Additional information: unknown media status code.

So, I went to Microsoft Product Support Services, which does not seem to offer all the solutions.  I searched this error online and found several similar problems - some users had problems with viruses.  Some users had winsock2 corruption, and some recommended to reinstall the drivers for my network cards.  I'm computer literate, but not a computer Wizard, so I was able to follow their instructions for checking the winsock2 corruption (I think), and I think it's very good.  I did a complete scan of symantec, but who came with nothing.  I downloaded the drivers for my network cards which are: Wireless - 11 a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter, ethernet - connection of a Mobile Intel (r) PRO/1000 MT and was able to update my wireless driver, but not the driver ethernet.  The latter Assistant said we "could not find a better match for your hardware than the software currently installed".  I had wireless internet to work for a few hours last night, even if I still have the same error message when I run ipconfig/all.  I started my computer this morning, and the same problem again - constantly says "address of network acquisition" even if no wireless networks are appearing on the list.  Also, I tried the system restore to see if I could go back before the problem started, but after that I tried several dates, System Restore has still not successful - it wouldn't work again.

So now, I have my computer in safe mode, and it is connected to the wireless internet, even if the ipconfig/all command still gives the same message, and I am running symantec again to see if I can find something!

Please help me!  If you think that I may have missed something with the winsock2 or installing drivers, or if there is something I could not find on the internet, please let me know!  I'll try anything.

Note: I have Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3.
Network card drivers, I'm running are:
    Wireless: Date - 02/05/2007, Version 4.1.2.156, provider - Atheros
    Ethernet: Date - 24/10/2006, Version 8.7.9.0, provider - Intel

    Thank you!

Update: when I disable the Intel PRO/1000 MT driver, I can run ipconfig/all with success.  Then imagine it's something to do with this adapter or the driver.  Any ideas?

OK, so here is what I did to solve this problem.

I've updated to the latest version of the IBM BIOS

Then get the WLAN driver from the manufacturer, NOT IBM, NOT Windows Update. Depending on your card, it will be Cisco or Intel.

I can not stress enough that updates to IBM and Windows update does not work and I lost a lot of time. However, once downloaded directly from the manufacturer (new version) worked flawlessly!

I would like to change the motherboard of my ThinkPad T42 2373 - xxx with a card mother T42p, is it possible? Everything will be working properly?

The Board you are interested in will work fine.

It requires a "long" fan of M10, so if you do not have one, now it's time to order. The FRU is 13R2657.

    Good luck.
