ESX Server 3.5 - strange time problems

Hello world

What is the final location, installing a new server ESX will pull its time to go?  It seems complete weird for me!  I just reinstalled the server that I use for testing because the clocks on my hosts are out of sync with ESX server 3 hours.  I know this only because whenever I restarted the clocks would become out of sync even once, I would manually fix them but if I restarted, then they would be out of sync again on restart.

So I decided to start all over again and reinstalled.  I also noticed that the time on the BIOS was out of sync by 3 hours, so I fixed that, then during the installation, I used the GUI and ensured to this that all settings are correct.  I started and submitted my top vmdk files. Add a server to the inventory and ba-boom, it's always an hour out of sync!  If I put it to an internet time server synchronization in windows, it corrects itself, but is incorrect once again after a reboot.

If I use VMWARE tools to synchronize with the host computer then the time is an hour off the coast.

Please keep in mind, I'm a windows guy, this great process of setting the time using putty is a little hard to swallow.  Is there not an easier way to simply see what time the host uses and correct?

Thank you.

First when you install it gets it from the BIOS. Then when you have done this, you will want to configure NTP on the HOST. This by going to the tab "configuration" and then "time Setup". You can use the following internet time servers (just put you company firewall or something else allowing of course) 0.pool.ntp.org 1.pool.ntp.org 2.pool.ntp.org. The implementation is very easy and it will make sense to you that you do. Also, it will make ESX for NTP firewall when you submit.

So you want if sure is installed on your windows guests and the value of the box sync with the machine virtual host of the vm tool. Important, disable the windows time service.

Do this and your windows host will keep time properly.

    Hello

On one of our server VMware ESX 3.5.0 123630 hosts, I get an error message when I try to use the "Console" tab on the servers located on the ESX Server.

  • LUN and ESX Server - basic knowledge

    Hello...

I'm trying to clarify the relationship of this LUN game in the Infrastructure of VI:

    (1) is it true that you can have 1 VMFS volume associated with ESX Server at a given time?   Or can we have multiple VMFS volumes running on all different LUN associated with the same ESX Server?

    (2) I know that you have have 'shared storage' between the ESX servers in a cluster of vmotion, but the fact that "the shared storage" refers to

    (a) the same VMFS volume (no matter how much LUN spans the VMFS volume) or

    (b) or can it be multiple different VMFS volumes (b/c multiple VMFS volumes can be associated to an ESX Server at a given time)

    (3) If you can have multiple VMFS volumes related to 1 ESX Server, make the virtual machine in a cluster of vmotion, they all live in the same VMFS volume?

    Thank you!

Also remember that a VMFS data store cannot be greater than 2 TB.

Also consider what would happen if an administrator has accidentally deleted a LUN

VMware also creates SCSI reservations on a LUN basis whenever it creates a new virtual machine among other tasks. If these become too high, the logic unit number is locked significantly reducing the performance of the disk. Separation between the LUN, will help

  • 4.1 ESX Server thinks it is managed by VCenter, but is not

An ESX 4.1.0 server (Standard edition) think it is managed by our server to VC, but it isn't.

When connecting to the server with an ESX VSphere Client, I am greeted with the message:

"This host is currently managed by the VCenter server... IP address.  It is not the case.

I believe that the problem started in trying to add this ESX server 4.1.0 to our server VCenter 4.0.0

This isn't a combination of supported, but the operation seems to have left the ESX with the VCenter Server Agent installed and configured server.

I guess I'll upgrade our server VCenter 4.1 at a given time, but how to remove or correct the VC Server Agent on the host computer in the meantime?

    I see this suggestion: http://http://communities.vmware.com/message/707920#707920

and cannot find this directory on the server VCenter, but what script to use is not clear.

    Thank you... Lyle

  • Copy the VM on the ESX server @ remote site

Need a virtual machine to copy to an ESX Server at a remote site. The remote site is on a WAN to 12 MB link.

What would be the best way to get a copy of the virtual machine on the remote site?

The virtual machine on the remote site is using local storage in its VMFS data store.

    Would this work.

    Orginal VM clone

    Unregister the Clone

Copy all the files of the virtual machine to USB using FastSCP

Download files of the virtual machine to the local VMFS data store

Right-click VMX and click on add to the inventory

    Am I missing measures?

If bandwidth is a problem, and your VMDK is thick provisioning, you can use vmware converter to convert format of vmware workstation in the USB, Converter it will be thin. and then reupload again via the converter when you're there. It could save you a few upload and download times.

  • VirtualCenter is necessary to put in place the virtual machine on an ESX Server?

Hello! I'm new to VMWare and and I'm trying to implement some virtualized servers. I have a machine I want to run a virtual machine with Windows Server 2008 and a virtual machine with Arch Linux. I have a copy of vSphere 4.0 and ESX Server operating system linux installed correctly on the server computer. I tried to use the Infrastructure Client from my desktop Windows 7 Professional to create the new virtual machine, but I get to the part 'Select the data store' in the wizard and shows me that I have not created from data stores. I have not found a way to create databases in client infrastructure, and most things on the internet speak do with VirtualCenter.

I tried to install the VirtualCenter on Windows 7 server, and initially, I got the error when he could not find the ADAM directory. Then I installed the version of Windows 7 to ADAM, ADLDS, who created c:\Windows\Adam and seemed to be backward compatible enough to allow installation to get a little further, how it failed and said that he was unable to create an instance of directory services.

I fought this thing and Googling all the problems that I ran now for more than 48 hours. I was hoping that since I don't have more than one physical server to manage, and I don't have a dedicated machine which can be VirtualCenter Server all the time anyway (my office is dualbooted with linux, where I spend most of my time), it would be possible to do without.

    Any help appreciated,

    Matt

Hi and welcome to the forum,

you don t need a vCenter if you have a single server. You can use the vSphere Client to manage the server.

If I understand you, you have already installed the ESX Server and a local data store.

Now you can download the vSphere Client by opening the Web page of your ESX Server. Type http://<> address >

Install the Client and you are able to create Virtual Machines.

You can also use the ESXi Version.

But I recommend you read some VMware papers like this

    http://www.VMware.com/PDF/vSphere4/r40_u1/vsp_40_u1_esxi_i_get_start.PDF

  • ESX Server does not respond in VCenter

Hello everyone, I am looking for some help with a problem I have right now.  I was able to find a similar thread, but it was not resolved, so here are my symptoms.

I have a 3.5 running ESX Server.  In VCenter, the system shows callous and all of the associated virtual machines are disconnected.  However, ESX server and virtual machines are running correctly.  If I try to use the VI Client to connect directly to the ESX box, you receive an error "server has taken too much time to react."  Interface Web doesn't either.  However, the SSL connection via port 22 works fine and I am able to work with the system.  I had this problem before and a reboot of the server ESX solved the problem, but which forced me to all virtual machines down and then reboot ESX.  The ESX box shows no errors when I have ILO on the console.

Can anyone give me any help is appreciated.

Have you tried to restart the management agent with

    [for service mgmt-vmware restart

    on the console?

    Kind regards

  • Cannot ping my esx Server

    Hi all

I hope you can help, this problem has been driving me crazy for some Richard now!

Firstly a bit of history... We have a Compaq ML760 running esx 3.0.1 attached to 2 SCSI disk bays. On weekends, this system was powered down by our partners to outsource in replacement of the ups in the rack. When turning the power on it we lost communication with the inverter boards... a new case, few new readers and reconstruction of the RAID the latter we have an ESX that starts in the log on screen with no obvious errors.

So, the problem is that since we cannot ping or connect to any other way of our ESX Server. Now, before that I have to go any further in my opinion, it is worth noting that I'm not an expert of linux/esx I know enough to login as root and run a few commands.

I have read several discussions around this issue and none seem to apply to my situation. Not only did I not ping my ESX, when I log into the ESX I can't ping any device, even the entry door. I had a quick glance at the configuration (should not have changed during the upgrade of the UPS!) and everything looks ok to me, feel free to correct me, the info is here:! esxcfg-NICS. JPG!

    any ideas would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance,

    Adam

Adam - I had a very similar problem in my test once environment. Everything was going well, all settings have been properly etc... but no connectivity ntwk. I had to remove my network config and rebuild. You can try just a little at a time to see if it works. Try to create a new vSwitch, move your top Service Console and assign a network adapter with the appropriate vlan information. See if it works then. That should give you an idea if there is a kind of corruption with the current configuration of ntwk.

  • Strange mouse problem

I have a new laptop HP 8440 and I'm having a very strange mouse problem.  The point of the mouse on the screen from time to time will crawl slowly towards the top of the screen.  This occurs when you use the Touchpad mouse or when you use a USB optical mouse.  The mouse buttons remain active and navigation mouse continues to function (so I can pull the mouse down of his craawl), but he continued to creep upward.

This does not happen all the time and 'fixed' after 5 minutes of me being frustrated.  I don't think this is driver-related, but my mouse driver is 5.1.2600.0

    Any ideas?

    Hi Pappytopp,

    1. run the troubleshooter from the link below: hardware devices do not work or are not detected in Windows:http://support.microsoft.com/gp/hardware_device_problems

    2. also try to disable the touchpad then use the optical mouse and check the results.

Help the creation of a test of the abveo metric ESX alarm

Hi - I ended up having to do such things in the past as well. I just built a virtual machine added lots of processors and memory, then for the CPU, I used the script CPUBusy.vbs from VMware (Google search which) and down it load times so that he began to max real physical processors... For memory, I just opened a massive text file in Wordpad and scroll up and down it. This gave me the circumstances to test the alarms, just don't do as a busy time or use some dev ESX servers...
