ESXi 4.0 command line upgrade to ESXi 4.0 U1

I know there is a method in ESX using "esxupdate", but is there a simple process similar to ESXi commandline? Can someone post a step by step method and let me know which download install? I downloaded this...

Upgrade the ESXi Server 4.0 package to ESXi Server 4.0 Update 1

This package provides experienced users with the possibility to upgrade remotely, without head of ESXi Server 4.0 to ESXi Server 4.0 Update 1. Use this package with the Remote Command Line Interface 'vihostupdate '.

Or is it not available for ESXi?

Probably because you do not pass in the right syntax params and by default, it will use localhost. All orders of vCLI has always the default value - server, username - and - password (or you can let the password off and you will be asked)

Try this:

vihostupdate.pl --server 10.4.75.230 -user user -i -b C:\ESXi-4.0.0-update01.zip

and assuming that the IP is your ESXi host, you will be asked your password

Note: Also, if you use the vCLI to automate all the tasks, to ensure that you are on an eval edition or duly authorized of ESXi, as you can't use the vCLI with the free version of ESXi else, you will get an error.

Unless you encounter unexpected problems the VMFS datastore should be preserved (otherwise it wouldn't be an upgrade). However, it is recommended to have a current backup before the upgrade in case of disaster.

Please make sure that you take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1022140 and the Upgrade Guide (you can find the link in the KB article) before you run the upgrade. • How to upgrade an ESXi host from the command line

Sorry for bumping an old thread. I'm new to ESXi. I'm under ESXi 5.5 build 1331820 and I am at a loss how to apply patches.

Preferably, I would like to apply all the relevant patches through console (SSH). Can someone give me pointers how to do this? Thank you

Moderator note (a.p.): branched to a new discussion of software patch to version 1331820?

    Welcome to the community,

on how to patch a ESXi host from the command line, please see for example http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2008939

Basically download you the latest hotfix package and install it using the command esxcli . That said, please make sure that your hardware is supported by the patch that you want to apply (see http://www.vmware.com/go/hcl). You can also do before installing the patch, is to do a "dry - run" to know what . VIBS are removed and which are installed by the patch. To do this add -dry - run to the esxcli command line.

In the case where something goes wrong, you can revert to the previous state by pressing SHIFT-R , while the ESXi hosts begins the start-up.

  • Disk partedUtil utility command-line on ESXi disk partitioning

    Hi all

I created the partition by using the utiliy of command-line partedUtil on ESXI in the face of error below:

    • error: "Invalid guid (0xfb). Contains non hexadecimal numbers
    • Is not a valid guid (fb). Length should be 32
    • Is not a valid guid (251). Length should be 32

Can you advise me how to solve the problem of the partition.

    Hi Prashant.

VMFS data warehouses can be created and deleted using the vSphere client connected to an ESXi/ESX host or vCenter Server. It is not necessary to manually create partitions by using the command line utility. For more information, see the Configuration Guide for your version of ESXi/ESX storage management.

    Resolution

You can use the partedUtil command line utility to directly manipulate local and remote tables of partitions on the disks of SAN on ESX and ESXi.

The partedUtil command-line is only supported for ESXi 5.x disk partitioning. The command-line utility fdisk does not work with LUN formatted with VMFS5.

Note: This article is from the principle that a console session is available to the host ESX or ESXi, you're familiar with console management concepts and the disk, and you did backups appropriate before proceeding. For more information, see:

Unable to connect to a host ESX using Secure Shell (SSH) (1003807) or

Using the Mode of Support Tech in ESXi 4.1 and 5.x ESXi (1017910).

If you are not sure of any step, contact the VMware Support.

  • How can I make and delete a snapshot of the command line in ESXi 4?

How can I make and delete a snapshot of the command line in ESXi 4?  ghettoVCB4i does, but I need unusual behaviour for two virtual machines.  I need to be able to save only one of the two virtual drives, not both.  So I can't use this script here.  I need to write a script that will:

    1 copy off the .vmx

2 make a snapshot of a virtual computer running

3 use the vmkfstools command to clone the vmdk in the backup location

    4 remove the snapshot.

The snapshot is the part that I do not know how.  I do not see a flash drive in vmkfstools and I do not understand the snapshot code in ghettoVCB4i.

    Thank you!

vmkfstools is a tool for working with VMDK, has nothing to do with stereotypes. In the Busybox unsupported console, the only tool that you can use for some of the management of the virtual computer is vim-cmd , which is about a wrapper for VMware vimsh, take a look at our site for more information: http://engr.ucsb.edu/~duonglt/vmware/#vmware_vimsh

Basically, you're going to do something like the following:

    vim-cmd "vmsvc/snapshot.create XXXX FIRST_SNAPSHOT MY_FIRST_SNAPSHOT_1"

where XXXX is VmId to the virtual machine that is retrieved from vmsvc/getallvms, then you are going to deliver the snapshot.remove

Here are some other useful commands dealing with snapshots:

    Vim - cmd vmsvc/snapshot.removeall \[VmId]

    [[[vim - cmd vmsvc/snapshot.remove \[VmId\] \[removeChildren\] \[snapshotLevel\] \[snapshotIndex\]

    Vim - cmd vmsvc/snapshot.get \[VmId\]

ghettoVCB4i uses vimsh to do these things as well.

  • expdp/impdp method in the database upgrade from 11.2.0.4 to 12.1.0.2 an error in logic of "command line"?

    Hi DBA:

We are evaluating different methods of upgrading 11 GR 2 DB to 12 c (12.1.0.2) this year, it is very important for us to use the right method.  It was reported that when DB version was 9i and has been updated to 11g, there were some order of tables 'line' was wrong when execute SELECT statements in application (Java application) - at the moment I didn't if it is ' select * from... "or any specific part with a"where"clause, and what type of data was wrong (maybe sequence CLOB data, etc.).

I think I know, ' exp/imp', "expdp/impdp" logical backup of DB methods.  Therefore, Oracle automatically import data and fix it in each table.  If no error in impdp connects after it's over, should not be any mistake, right?

If the use of the method of 'creates a new data + expdp/impdp basis for schemas user' 11g 12 c port data, questions:

    1. this method will lead to erroneous sequence data when ordering?  If so, how to re - generate the sequence number?

    2. this method can bring CLOB, BLOB data and without any errors?  If error, how to detect and repair?

I use the same method in the 10.2.0.5 to 11g port data, no problem.

I'll keep this thread posted after getting more information from application.

    Thank you very much!

    Dania

INSERT... SELECT, CREATE TABLE in the SELECT and Export-Import will all "re-organize" the table by assigning new blocks.

In place--update (using DBUA or command line) don't re-create the user tables (although it DOES not rebuild the data dictionary tables).  Therefore, does not change the physical location of lines for user tables.  However, there is no guarantee that a further reason for INSERT, DELETE, UPDATE instructions does not change the physical location of ranks.  Nor is it a guarantee that a SELECT statement will return always stored in the same order unless an ORDER BY is specified explicitly.

If you export the data while it is still used, you don't avoid update sequences in the source database.  Usually results in a mismatching number sequence between the source database and the new database (imported). In fact, even the numbers may be different, unless you use CONSISTENT or FLASHBACK_SCN.  (These two options in exp / expdp do NOT prevent update sequences).   The right way to manage sequences is to rebuild or increase them in data imported with the values in the data source, once the import is complete.

I have also included the vminst.log file.

The log file and the screenshot show the wrong file path (missing one ' \') characters in the path. Any thoughts?

I did some digging in the vmvcsr.log file and noticed that it changed the SetupDir and the SETUPEXEDIR to Z:\vCenter-Server instead of Z:\vCenter-Server\

I added the SETUPEXEDIR = and SetupSource = command line options and the installer still changed their return. "So, I removed the v'" and put the directories all in escaped quotes. This solves the problem.

I still think that the installer must put the correct path on its own source dir facility. It should be smart enough for that!

Here's the line Arguments that worked:

    $processInfo.arguments = "/S /qr SourceDir=`"$sourceDir`" SETUPEXEDIR=`"$sourceDir`" DB_EXISTING_VERSION=550 DB_USERNAME=`"$AdminUser`" DB_PASSWORD=`"$AdminPass`" LAUNCHWIZARD=1 VCS_DB_BACKUP=1 SSO_ADMIN_USER=`"$AdminUser`" SSO_ADMIN_PASSWORD=`"$AdminPass`" /L*v $env:temp\vmvcsvr.log"

  • Command-line installation or upgrade of oracle database

Is it possible to install or upgrade the database using command line
    NO X-WINDOWS?
or if you know any docs on this issue, please provide a link.

    It is not possible.
Even a silent installation requires X-Windows.

    Hello

Machines virtual Java is backward compatible, so you can use the JDBC 1.4 with JVM 1.5 or later without problem, no need to download new classes.

And Yes, I think that it is best to go directly to JDK1.6... Here I have 1.6 and use the tool to export Apex with the 10g JDBC classes without problems.

First of all, you must understand the differences between ESXi and ESX 4.x, note the 'i' - http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/esxi-and-esx/compare.html

There is a remote CLI called vCLI which includes the majority of the esxcfg-* commands but now accessible remotely that integrates also vmware-cmd and vmkfstools you maybe famliiar with. Take a look at the documentation that gives you examples on how to use the remote CLI - http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vcli/

One of the documents that I highly recommend is the transition of the CLIs of ESX to ESXi - http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp?topic=/com.vmware.vcli.migration.doc_50/cos_upgrade_technote.1.1.html

Are you referring to the evolution of the virtual machines network portgroup of one to the other and in your case potentially issue on to another vSwitch? If so, take a look at this script: updateVMPortgroup.pl everything you do really makes a call to ReconfigVM_Task() and passing in a specification change and put to day the network in which you want to change
