Z600: updates

Just a quick question regarding a CPU upgrade

I have 2 x X 5550 - Boot Block Date: 30/01/09 - Bios: 4 786 v03.57

Want 2 x X 5675

Are the compatible 5675 X?, or I'll have to stay with the 5500 series?

I was checking my files for you... 07/01/10 is the date of the motherboard "revision 1" boot block  So, you have the original motherboard instead of the update.

If you want to the project that is not too bad Exchange in one of the motherboards more recent.

SSD, you'll get the most bang for the buck in terms of speed.  I think the Z600 is always a motherboard SATA Gen II (check on this... I think remember that the use of disks SATA Gen III started with the Z620, and there may be problems if you try the disks SATA Gen III in a workstation SATA Gen II according to HP).  Assuming it's a workstation SATA Gen II then my favorite for this is the version of 300 GB Intel 320 series.  You can find those new on eBay for a very reasonable cost.  I bought also get used them outside of eBay, and almost always the left life reported by the excellent Intel "Toolbox" software is 100%.  This software allows you to update the firmware of the SSD very easily, if necessary.

  • Update, Z600 CPU

I have the following HP Z600 and I want to upgrade to the current Intel Xeon E5520 processor to E5650, E5660 or X 5675 processors. The two basic questions I have are:

    • Is this possible?
    • If so, what exactly should I do?

Implicit in these two questions are:

    • The chipsets on the motherboard will build the latest processors?
    • Current heatsinks for E5520 processors will work or it will be necessary to replace them?

    Thank you

    Bob,

    Correct prefix of these processors is (x 5650, x 5660 and X 5675)

    No no model part
    x 5650 WG731AA
    x 5660 WG732AA
    X 5675 LB215AA

I also mentioned technical information below the means of these prefix.

    Letter prefix:

    X = Performance
    E = Mainstream (editing)
    L = optimized power
W = Workstation for up to 2 processors per motherboard.

The letters also refer to the numbers of power consumption of the processor in question. Note that the numbers associated with the letters are for Xeon "Nehalem"focus on the family and the older Xeons who use letter designations have different values of TDP, associated letters."

L = design power thermal (power draw scheduled with a 100% CPU load running a normal software) of 60 watts or less. These are the chips 'low voltage '.

E = 80 watt TDP. Intel refers to the Xeon 5500/5600 s with this prefix letter as the ' base' line, and thus, the draw of energy to sleep on these chips is often worse than any which of the other series of chips, despite the other chips may have a higher full-load power draw.

X = 95 watt TDP. These are the chips 'premium' as their TDP is not excessive that they are difficult to cool in a server rack, but their standby power consumption is much lower than the E-series chips.

W = TDP of 130 watts or more. What are the fastest Xeons and the hottest made and they are designed to be used in work stations and servers base cooling better than an average rack 1U or 2U server.

  • Z600: New to me Z600

I just finished setting up my new to me Z600 with 2 processors E5640 and 18 GB of ram (said the pub 16 GB but she actually had 3x2gb and 3x4gb).

I already did some reaseach on this forum and I got lucky with the latest version of the motherboard. I have 48 gb of ram on the way and plan to discover updates as funds allow.

Couple of things, I am curious about at this stage.

    (1) the LED on the power button does not light upward. I saw refernce to this topic somewhere and they have may be burned. Unless there is a BIOS setting I'm missing that seems to be the only plausible cause. The machine seems to work as it should.

    (2) I'm missing the top trim of the grill and the rear handle. In my view, it was mounted in a rack. Its a minnor thing, but I would replace it if I can. I came with P/N 536605-001, is this correct? I found one on ebay with a suspicious image, anyone know any other source (I tried)?

You clearly have this well-studied.  Here is some info for you (and others in the future):

1 part HP numbering system includes two Assembly and buy spares parts for the same exact point numbers and you can sometimes find better for article on eBay or elsewhere in the knowledge of both.  For my Z600, the part number on the label on the cable was 468625-001 REV:B and it is the same as 536305-001.  This is the cable that manages the switch with blue LEDS attached, the son of the speaker system and the thermal sensor in this single cable.  You can't buy just the switch itself.  The Revision B may indicate that HP including how to keep the LED lights goes... it's nice to have this Visual indicator because I put my workstations to sleep, and it is useful to know their status like that.

2 replacing that Assembly cable requires more digging deep you might be comfortable with, but it's doable.  I marked where the clips were before you cut them with a marker Sharpie on the metal under the lid of the... practice right panel to back things together.  The video CV on how to do this is HERE.

    http://h20464.www2.HP.com/Media/730DD9A1-B5D6-4CFA-A950-C630D70C3073/nav_FRU_video_powerswitchassembly.htm

3 cursor sets the Z600 and the perhaps Z620 suffered some fine-tuning by HP from versions prior to the last, but I 506601-002, 536311-001, and those 663074-001 and they seem to be interchangeable in practice.  Good deal on this one you got.

    4. great buy on this SSD... these workstations are generation SATA II and is therefore only the version of the Intel SSD.  If it's HP or besides I never had a problem with these 320 series.  They have some internal capacitors integrated to enable automatic saving of data if power failure, unlike the X 25-M series.  Be sure to leave about 20% of the unused capacity for better performance (overprovisioning).  Set the TRIM to run once per week via the Toolbox Intel software, and I don't think that that wakes you up a workstation to run TRIM, but not sure on that.  Thus, it is better to put it for when you are going to use the workstation, usually.

5 memory... you are already ahead of me!  6 sticks of the same memory is the key to better performance.

    6. the transformer: I mine officially maxed out with 2 x X 5675, running under the heat sinks "Mainstream" that accompanies this Z600 (they run at 95W each and Mainstream heatsinks are noted for this too).  Apparently, unofficially, the MHz 3.46 X 5690 can roll with the Z600, and I a Z400 running with one of those too.  However, warmer 130W TDP max missions and require the 'Performance' for the Z600 heat sinks that are quite expensive (as are the processors).  You can adapt a Performance of the Z400 radiator in the a two spots just Z600 bend down the bottom rear air deflector slightly, but the other processor socket positioning requires the official version more expensive Performance Z600 to adapt.  Fans are wired identically for Z400 and Z600 performance of heat sinks, so the motherboard does not know the difference if you use this method to save money.

7 Behold my summary of W7Pro64 WEI.  With 2 X 5690 processors in the processor and the memory of the scores we 7.9.  The X 25-M works a little faster and in this box it will get 7.7 score and rarely reliable, 7.8, but he capped in size to 160 GB and does not have the special capacitors, I mentioned to protect data in power outtage.  I stick to what I showed here... very fast and capable workstation:

  • HP Z600: What processors am I limited with the hpz600 workstation?

    Hi, I have a HP Z600 that I bought refurbished. The vehicle currently has 2 x Xeon X 5560 2.8 cpus.

I am struck with this configuration cpu load limit (I run the intensive 3d modeling software), and I want to improve.

Am I limited with the motherboard on these workstations?

Which processors that you would recommend? (I looking for a quite intensive help and have a few hundred dollars to spend).

    Thank you!

anti1, older versions of the Z600 support microprocessors Intel 55xx only, later versions support as 55xx 56xx CPUs.  The best way to determine this is to boot the system, enter the BIOS F10 setup and look at the date of starting block.

If the boot block date is 03/01/2009, the system supports the 55xx only processors.

If the block start date is 07/01/2010, the system supports processors 55xx both 56xx.

-C' is the block of start date, not the date of the version of the BIOS.

-There is no way to update the boot block.  (There are several discussions in this forum about this)

If your system has the block to start later, upgrade to a 6 core CPU 56xx will give best performance.  I think that the frequency of the processor 6 c is 3.47 GHz, although there is a 4 processor 3.6 GHz.  Your application supports multiple cores?

To get an idea of any increase in performance, look at the reference site of CPU of the pass mark for the top processors of range, here.

Based on these landmarks (I know, they are markers without real object numbers), you could get about 70% performance increase by using a X 5690 6 3.47 GHz CPU core.  Is it enough for your application?

  • 2nd Z600 CPU installation

    I have a HP Z600 workstation with 1 x E5570 cpu.

    Can I install a 2nd type processor x 5570 on the motherboard?

What is the difference between E5570 and X 5570, and if so, which is best?

    Thank you

    Caspian Sea

The Z600 features of two processor on the motherboard ready to go, as with the xw6400 and the xw6600.  So, it is much easier and cheaper to add a second processor for the Z600 for a Z620 which requires a 'minimotherboard' separated to add to the top of the main motherboard before you can add a second processor.

Here is information on the naming conventions names to the processors, to the low position for E vs X:

    /T5/workstations-z-series-XW-series/Z600-CPU-upgrade/m-p/6649124/highlight/true#M18367

I saw the HP list some X processors as an E processor when Intel and the rest of the world as a x lists... follow the convention of Intel and the surefire way to know exactly what processor you have is to take off the heat, remove the Processor heatsink, clean it and check its code sSpec laser engraved on the top of the processor stainless steel cover.  You must at least be comfortable with this process before thinking to add a second processor.  Dough thermal costs for both is useful if you have two processors.

Note the orientation of the processor before carefully remove you it... There is a corner triangular gold on it which is oriented to a corner of the plastic of the decision threshold, and you can see that, after that you turn to the top of the stainless steel on its hinge fixing.  After you have added the thermal paste very carefully put the processor down on delicate pins with it's interface.  I hold the processors North-South, not East-West... with North being the hinge of the hold down.  In lots of light here and note that tasks molded into the plastic of the socket to align with the edge of processor corresponding to tasks... together down gently, then check alignment, then close the hold down.

X 5570 has a single code sSpec, SLBF3, and that should be easy to find. It's a max 95W TDP processor and you can buy new Intel for about $1400.00 USD today.  Or, for about $35,00 or even a little less off eBay.  I only buy used Xeons and had a bad on about 50, and the seller has sent a replacement free of charge.

You want to match a heatsink / fan new / used eBay for what you have, and the part number will be on the radiator you have.  I recommend to use Noctua thermal paste, and only a nice little dab is needed to get a good thin layer on top in stainless steel before replacement and reassembly.  I extend it with a finger gloved latex in a circualr motion to cover the flat top surface, where was the laser engraving.  You want pretty thin... not so thin that they are able to see through, but close to that.  You screw the radiator on sequentially across, opposing live a few laps at a time, until they just gently... the bottom but do not turn the handle downwards beyond.  It is fine to do walks back and gently bottem them again to get all too tight 4.

Upgrade to the latest version of the BIOS first, and only a reboot may be necessary to work with the new processor.  The latest version of the BIOS gives you the last HP "microcode", a hidden part of some updates to the BIOS, and which includes the list of specific processors that HP has certified to work with your particular workstation.  For example, you might see a processor that works in your computer in one of the QuickSpecs, but if you do not list your BIOS firmware, it won't work.  I do not think that HP ever pulls a processor from the list of firmware when it moves forward with a workstation... compatible motherboards X56xx should be able to run all X55xx older processors.

Partners, it is important to know that there are two main versions of the Z600, with the latest version capable of running with some processors than the earlier version cannot.  By combining your second processor to exactly what you already have you don't need to think about this question, but if you want faster dual processor completely new, you will need to do more research in this forum about the revisions, which will be held with the two main motherboard reviews and the fact that you can use "performance" heat sinks if you go with the processors the "." more hot.

The last QuickSpec for the Z600 (v51) covers X56xx and processors E56xx... QuickSpec is for the new revision of the motherboard.  You can search in the HP to find their searchable list of all prior QuickSpecs and see which processors have been certified for your motherboard probably original review.  Based on this research, you can choose to move to two correspondents faster 95W X55xx Xeons, but only get those who are in the list QuickSpec from HP (and get the latest not if there are several codes sSpec) for everything what install you on.

    Searchable QuickSpecs for Z600:

Later and probably the last, is v51.  The PDF link get you more later.  The HTML link offers you the most recent, but also a drop-down list in the upper right to use to go back in time:

    http://WWW8.HP.com/h20195/v2/GetHtml.aspx?DocName=c04110961&search=Z600

From there, you can create a chart on all previous processors available and choose what you want.  I recommend doing a chart for only the fastest and the second more fast X55xx processors in each QuickSpec and check eBay for the price.  A step down from the fastest often gets you a large drop of cost.   If you do this work, please report it here to help others.

  • Workstation Z600: card graphic Workstation Z600 error (Six beeps)

Hello, this is my first time posting in the forums and I can't upgrade my video card. I'm relatively new to the PC upgrade, so bear with me.

Currently, I use a HP Z600 workstation with a graphics card XFX Radeon HD 6670 1, without any problem. I have two slots for PCIe 2.0 x 16, and I've read that I should be able to also use cards which have PCIe 3.0. The 650W power supply also has a power cable 6 unique pins.

The new card, I am using is a MSI Gaming R9 8 390, which uses the PCIe 3.0 and locations for a 8 pin and a power cable 6 pin.  When I replace the video card and you turn on the system, the repeated red power button blinks six times, each with a beep. The light on the card, but fans do not rotate, which may actually be a feature of the map in order to stay calm.

So far, I was able to use a location for both, power cable or the 6 - 8 pins (using the 6-pin to 8 pin adapter supplied with the card). I tried the switch between the two slots (slots 2 and 4) PCIe card, but I still get the power button flashes red when turned on. I've also updated my bios to v3.57.

I am able to start the computer when I replaced the HD6670, without the beeps. I tried to have 390 R9 also connected, but it does not appear in the Windows Device Manager.

For me, it seems that the motherboard is not just pick up the card. Is it possible that the right card is not correctly powered and I need a power splitter cable? Have I not a card that is dead on arrival? Or is the 390 R9 simply incompatible with my system?

I solved my problem by using the separator.

In case someone else also try to upgrade their system gpu, it is indeed necessary connect the two power of the graphics card ports. Once, my card was required a 6 pins and a PCIe power plug 8-pole, and I used just splitters and adapters to connect to the extra cable 6 pin of the Z600.

Beware however: because my card uses a decent amount of power, I had to underclock my card about 10% or my rig will re-start himself when running 3D applications. I read online that it can be solved if you use a separate extra, external power supply or connect to another pc supply, but I am satisfied with her downclock so I will do that now. Still, you can't replace the power supply of the Z600 because it is designed specifically for this workstation.

Try to get itunes working to make a backup of my faulty iphone before repair.

First-itunes does not start says error. I'm trying to fix it, who said success but same error when you try to start it.

Then uninstall completely worked. Then reinstall that seemed to be over except for a message "an older version of Apple software update already exists" then he went down and install itunes apparently had not been completed.

Then I try to remove the update from the apple software and executed by an error in the installation program - it says there is an error in the installation and contact the supplier of the installation package. Same error if I run the uninstall command line program.

Try to repair the Apple Software Update of programs & features Control Panel and then try to update iTunes again.

For general advice, see troubleshooting problems with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps described in the second case are a guide to remove everything related to iTunes and then rebuild what is often a good starting point, unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

Review the other boxes and other support documents list to the bottom of the page, in case one of them applies.

The more information box has direct links with the current and recent if you have problems to download, must revert to an older version or want to try the version of iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) as a workaround for problems with installation or operation, or compatibility with third-party software.

After I have updated to iOS 10.0.2, I noticed a problem with the touch screen. Using the position of the image on the right side, near the corner, the toushscreen does not work.
For example: when you use the keyboard, I can't type the letter 'P', have trouble typing BACKSPACE. Using the Contacts app, I can't scroll through using the alphabet bar.

Do what idea of the problem?

    Kind regards!

    Hi fabriciorela,

Thanks for the upgrade to iOS 10! I understand that the right of your screen is unresponsive to the touch. You can try the steps in this link to fix the problem. If the screen of your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch does not respond to touch

If it does not help the problem, try to restore the device to factory settings. I would like to backup your important data first.

  • USB disabled after the update of the Sierra (a short circuit and a work)

Hi, when I bought my mbp 13 inches mid2012 (used, not new) I noticed that a USB port did not work. In the Yosemite sometimes I noticed that a USB port consumed too much energy and have been disabled. (I think because the usb port has been short-circuited. Year when it was time to update the mbp to El Capitan I had a few panic the kernel and the newspaper was shown as the last driver loaded the USB driver, so I kept the mbp with Yosemite. A few days ago, I updated for Sierra but only usb which used to work stopped working. It has enabled and turned on but Finder and disk utility does not see the drive. In an Apple dealer they said that could be established relationships with some oxide and next week will take it and see what the problem is.

If there is someone with the same problems, please tell me what to do! I don't want to put in the trash my mac just for a flash drive... but I need!

    Hi Supermene,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support. Based on what you said, it appears as a USB device is not recognized in one of the USB ports. There are a few things that can cause this. I recommend you read these articles, which may be able to help solve the problem.

macOS Sierra: If a USB device does not work

Reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac.

    See you soon.

  • I can't go to my bookmarks after update for Sierra

I have a MacBook Pro. I just updated this week to Sierra with no problems, but now when I click on multiple points in the upper left corner to reveal my favorites and my playlist only, it displays the top sites page and does not open my favorites and reading list, as it used to.

Can someone tell me how to access my bookmarks and playlist in the Sierra? I'm sure it's something in the settings or something escapes me. My Bookmark Bar is the top of the page, yet. I can't find my bookmarks and reading list.

    Thank you

I thought about it, I had to go to Favorites on top and tell Safari to display in the Sidebar again.
