ESXi 4.1 connection NIC 0 to NIC 2 to a Port DHCP and static IP address

I have a Dell Blade M610 I recently put in place with ESXi 4.1 Software. I have the Management Console, NIC 0, a static IP address, but when I connect to a DHCP Port to NIC 1 I lose the ability to connect to the console of the VSphere Client. I get "connection failed". Remove the DHCP connection works and I can log in and manage the server.

Question-

What settings am I missing, that will allow me to connect it to a static IP Port and a DHCP Port at the same time?

The static IP addressed Port is behind a firewall on a subnet to isloated. The DHCP Port is on the Production network. A point to note - while IP address static on an isolated network, the TCP/IP Port, which allows you to talk to the domain controller to add from the PC to the field, is open. Most of the other Ports TCP/IP is disabled.

I would like to know if it is possible to realize that I need to create virtual machines to be used on the remote subnet, as well as on the Production side of the network.

Is there a reason for the group "DHCP VMkernel" VMkernel ports on vSwitch1? If this is not the case, remove this port group. It is not necessary to connect to the network of the VM.

So overall, you have 4 nic dedicated to the movement of SAN 2 and 2 configured on the console Service, VMoption and LAN traffic (in active Passive).

Best practice is to separate the traffic of your management of your LAN traffic.

With Layer 2 switches that I recommend that if you go to a single switch anyway, so you might as well dedicate a NIC to SC/vmotion and then spend the other card NETWORK LAN traffic.  This at least allows you to run backups on the SAN network (or make vmotions) without killing your Lan traffic (or vice versa).

You could probably change the vswtch based on MAC address instead of virtual port and then make it active two NICs.  In this configuration, a virtual machine takes a NIC at boot time and still about it... basically giving you a few loadbalancing.

I personally would probably go the way of its own for the LAN NETWORK card and the other card network for SC/Vmotion.

  • Connect NICs VM

    Hello

We had a power outaged yesterday on one of our DC. Unfortunately, all the virtual machines network cards appear to be turned off/disabled network device status and we did check one by one just to be sure.

Asked if there will be a single powercli script that will make things:

    1. get the name of the cluster

    2. get VMs with unchecked network adapter {}Set-NetworkAdapter -Connected:$false}

    3. set the virtual machine network adapter connected

    4. pull out a report to csv format.

It will be a great help.

Here are some cli a liner.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unplug the adapter on a Virtual Machine

    Get-VM -Name $VM_Name | Get-NetworkAdapter | Set-NetworkAdapter -Connected:$false

Connect the adapter to a Virtual Machine

    Get-VM -Name $VM_Name | Get-NetworkAdapter | Set-NetworkAdapter -Connected:$true

Connection status on the virtual machines network adapters

    Get-VM | Get-NetworkAdapter | Select-Object Parent,ConnectionState

Be limited to a specific cluster, you could do

    $clusterName = Read-Host -Prompt "Cluster name" $cluster = Get-Cluster -Name $clusterName $nics = Get-VM -Location $cluster | Get-NetworkAdapter | where {!$_.ConnectionState.Connected}

    $nics | Set-NetworkAdapter -Connected:$true -Confirm:$false $nics | Select @{N="VM";E={$_.Parent.Name}},Name | Export-Csv c:\report.csv -NoTypeInformation -UseCulture

And for a specific folder, you could do

    $folderName = Read-Host -Prompt "Folder name" $folder = Get-Folder -Name $folderName
    $nics = Get-VM -Location $folder | Get-NetworkAdapter | where {!$_.ConnectionState.Connected}

    $nics | Set-NetworkAdapter -Connected:$true -Confirm:$false
    $nics | Select @{N="VM";E={$_.Parent.Name}},Name | Export-Csv c:\report.csv -NoTypeInformation -UseCulture

If the concept every time the same, you limit the Get - VM using the location parameter

  • CentOS 6 under ESXi 5.0 - no NIC (eth0)

    All-

I just installed 6 64-bit CentOS and I'm unable to add an adapter network correctly. I've tried using E1000, VMXNET2 and VMXNET3.  I tried to add all 3 at once, and none appears when I type ifconfig.  Only loopback is displayed.

Anyone have any ideas on what I should do? I thought I need to use yum to install vmware tools can help, but I have no internet connection.

    Thanks in advance!

If you use dhcp on your network, run the follow command:

    eth0 - v #dhclient

If you use the static ip address, run the follow command:

    #ifconfig eth0 IPADDRESS

    for example:

    eth0 192.168.0.1 #ifconfig

  • 5.1 ESXi management no connectivity network with two network adapters connected

IBM H chassis equipped with blades HS22

Blades use Broadcom 5709 s dual gigabit NIC

ESXi 5.0, system worked very well with both NICs connected (static IP) in network management parameters (able to ping in and out). Completed the upgrade to ESXi 5.1 preserving VMFS datastore. After the reboot, management network shows two NICs connected to static IP always assigned but I have not any (impossible in our out ping) network connectivity. If I disable one of the network cards and restart the management network, I can immediately ping inside and out.

I took a spare blade and tested by passage of 5.0 to 5.1 and 5.1 installation clean, the two producers same results. A host with two active network cards 5.0 (if static IP or DHCP) can ping inside and out. A host with two active network cards 5.1 (if static IP or DHCP) can not ping in our out. 5.1 host cannot obtain DHCP address, but fails to APIPA.

I found the problem. For some reason, both switches must be actively connected on the same network for observed networks provide correct information for the collection.

  • Network (NIC) card does not work with DHCP or static IP

Hi, I have a ThinkCentre M70e (0809-C6S) with a problem in the network card. The link led is on and Windows detects that a cable has been connected. But the network can not aquire a DHCP lease and does not work with the static IP address. I uninstalled the antivirus and tested nothing helps network booting. The same connecting cable to another PC, works great. If the NIC has been "burned"? Thanks Oliver

Thanks will check the power settings too. But I solved this problem by: - antivirus uninstall - uninstall the card NETWORK Marvell driver - reboot - disable NETWORK card in the BIOS - turn off PC - turn on the NETWORK adapter in the BIOS - install the downloaded in another PC Marvell NIC driver - antivirus install now the NETWORK card works again! Best regards, Oliver

Think about it an absolute must - manually update your drivers.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/HT/driverdlmfgr.htm

Installation and update of drivers under Windows 7 (updated drivers manually using the methods
above is preferred so that the latest drivers from the manufacturer of system and device manufacturers are
    found)
    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/43216-installing-updating-drivers-7-a.html

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.

I'm able to get to the internet when you use the dhcp on my NETWORK (host) card, but can't go anywhere by using a static ip address on the same NIC...

What settings should I use in order to have working...

    Thank you in advance...

Doesn't look like to me your /etc/resolv.conf file has been loaded correctly. I don't see your name in there servers.

Assuming you can get ping on Internet via IP (i.e. use 74.125.140.102 to ping or connect to Google).

I think I'll try editing this file (like su) and adding:

    nameserver A.B.C.z

    nameserver 8.8.8.8

It will get overwritten the next time that you start but will allow you to test.

    Mine looks like this:

    # Glibc resolver (3) generated by resolvconf (8) in the file /etc/resolv.conf Dynamics (5)
    # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND--YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
    # OpenDNS rescue (configured by Linux Mint in etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/tail).

  • need to configure a connection wireless network with static IP address to make a panasonic wireless display of work on the virtual machine

Hi, I'm new to macs and Fusion. I have a MacBook Pro 13 mid-2009, running 10.5.7 and Fusion 2.0.5, running Win XP Pro SP3 as the virtual machine (not in a bootcamp partition separate). I added a second network as a bridged network adapter (first one is set to NAT). I'm trying to connect my wireless panasonic (802 11b) to the virtual machine display, as I do on my old sony PC. Normally, I turn on the wireless on the PC, find the network wireless in Win XP and configure my SSID and necessary of static IP address and configure the NIC to search only ad-hoc connections (non-infrastructure). I also turn off the firewall so that it can work. There is a panasonic program runs on the PC (which I also installed on the virtual machine) makes it all happen once I have the connection. So the place that seems to be stuck, it's that I can't find a wireless to configure network adapter since--what the VM is a NA standard, so there is no place to specify the SSID, ad-hoc and disable the WEP key. Someone has ideas how to go beyond my current state?

In addition, the panasonic only works at 800 x 600 for the display resolution, so it will automatically change the graphics settings. I guess that's not a problem on the VM, but thought I would ask in advance in case someone sees a problem with it.

    Thank you very much.

    Larry

If the only way you can connect to the device is via WiFi, then you will need to provide your own WiFi USB network adapter to the virtual machine because Fusion presents only the network card Ethernet wired to the Virtual Machine, regardless of the host network adapter is the main map.
