ESXi 4 Installable & drivers Server?

Just unpacked my server and test ESXi 4 for the first time. With your traditional Server installation / OS, you can use the hardware vendor (in my case, Dell) CD/DVD to start the installation of the initial server to control the installation of the OS, so that all the drivers are installed according to the needs. Is it the same procedure for ESXi or I simply start directly at the exit of the installation CD and don't you worry about this?

Thanks in advance.

Just start the CD ESXi or plug the USB ESXi key and follow the instructions on the screen. Easy as that. No need to install any hardware not related software or drivers.

  • Cannot add ESXi host to vCenter Server

    Hello

I created a home set up a VMware datacenter for study purposes. I currently have 2 virtual machines: an ESXi host with vCenter Server Appliance deployed on this subject.

I configured the server vCenter through web interface device and I have connected using vSphere Client.

I created a data center, but when I try to add a host, I get "ERROR: the request exceeded."
Connection with vSphere client directly to the ESXi host works.

I can connect using SSH to the ESXi host.

I have disabled the firewall on the ESXi host.

I have read many articles on the kbase but nothing helped me to solve this problem.

    You have any ideas?

    I finally got to understand.

It seems like my vmware workstation is not connected to the esxi as a physical host in my local network host, and so I was able to ping it unit of vCenter Server (but it worked the other way around, and that's why I thought it was ok).

After the connection to the physical LAN of VMware workstation settings, everything worked fine.

  • Esxi temporary 4.1u1 Server

I don't want to migrate to a temporary device soon, or better recommended.  Today, I realized that the temporary server I have is not on the HCL for 4.1u1 and that it is in the 3.5.x, era (its also not 64-bit).

I want the virtual machine that I am about to create on the server of temp to be ready so that when 4.1u1 I take it back to my permanent server, I don't require any kind of path of update later.

In a previous post, we went on different methods of P2V including: Converter between ESXi hosts, clone on server Vcenter, pulling to VMware workstation and then again when you are ready and the methods of type vMotion (sVMotion didn't, and vMotion got for this scenario).

Can anyone recommend methods for me to face the availiability of physical server not 4.1u1?  Maybe I can do things with the virtual machines that I think not.  Can I temporarily use a 64-bit "white box"?  But anyway... That's why I'm asking, because I don't know.

    Thank you.

, We assume that you want to install the operating system will be 64-bit? Find a server no HCL as a temporary location on your virtual computer can be a challenge, as evidenced by the number of "I can't install ESXi on my...» "I would like to use VMware Workstation on a 64-bit CPU, office capable of hardware virtualization machine. You always want to run VMware converter to move the machine it's new homepage on the ESXi host.

  • ESXi 4 Installable not right in the image of the Linux tools?

    Hi people,

Well, I'm very frustrated with VMWare (lack of) support at this stage. I registered for and got a free download of ESXi 4 Installable. Because of the prompt that I install, I need to access the image Alternative VMWare Tools CD for Linux guest operating systems as mentioned in the manual. It does not seem possible, however. The URL to download it gives a warning 'no access '.

I filed a support ticket with the following text:

& gt; I asked and got licensed 4 ESXi Installable by filling the

& gt; forms on your site. Because of my guest operating system should I need download VMware

& gt; Guest tools for operating systems Linux CD image. However this URL

    & gt; http://downloads.VMware.com/download/download.do?downloadGroup=ESXI40 said

& gt; that I do not have access. How can I access download the ISO? -What

& gt; available for paying customers?

    and received a notice saying:

& gt; We have re-entered your ESXi version on your account and could solve

& gt; your question. You can now download the ISO file via:

    & gt; http://downloads.VMware.com/download/download.do?downloadGroup=ESXI40

Of course, it did not work.  So, I reopened the ticket and told me:

& gt; I have been advised that you should contact our team of license under

& gt; [[email protected]] for that matter.

So I reached out to this address and received this response:

& gt; My name is XXXX XXXX and I will assume ownership of your

& gt; Support demand, # and work with you to solve this problem

    & gt; issue.

& gt; If I understand correctly notes request for assistance, the question that you are

& gt; challenging is assistance downloading the VMWare Tools CD

& gt; image for Linux guest OS that must be supplied in ESXi 4.

& gt; This is a technical question and you do not have a valid support.

    & gt; I would say to see this link http://communities.vmware.com/community/vmtn/vsphere/esxi?view=discussions & numResults = 15

& gt; You can ask questions in the forum.

I don't think it's a question of forum, but: no matter who else could download the image tools? Should what email address I go to get my account setup properly? Or, if someone can confirm that ESXi 4 installable free licenses not right in the image of other tools?

The download will offer different versions of VMware Tools, then you get on the ESXi installation.  You could try to sign for a vSphere eval to access the page.  If this does not work, send me a PM and I'll follow up with someone on getting that fixed.

  • VI Infrastructure Client-> Firewall-> ESXi Embedded 3.5 Server

    Hello world

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2900iii with the built-in in ESXi server and want to demonstrate the technology to our customers.  On my laptop, I installed the VI Client.  In our office, where the physical server, we have the port 443 forwarded to our virtual Small Business Server 2008 (on the Dell PowerEdge server) computer to 192.168.1.2 and port 903 forwarded to 192.168.1.3, which is our ESXi (the Dell PowerEdge server) server.  Searching the Internet, it seems that these are the two ports I need of robbing on the ESXi server, but my problem is that SBS requires port 443 for the remote access work.  Anyone know how I can get around this problem?

    Thanks for your help,

    Mike

Ideally, your ESXi host must not be exposed directly to the Internet.  You have the possibility to establish a VPN connection to the office?  Or you could RDP to the SBS and then run the VI client on it.

  • Net-SNMP installation on server ESXi 3.5

Can someone tell me if they tried or if you can install Net-SNMP for linux on a box of ESXi 3.5? I am using SolarWinds to monitor my box, but I am entered in the mode of the server tech support and tried to look for whatever it is SNMP, and he had nothing. So, which leads me to believe that I have to install SNMP on it. Can someone give me the file information that I need to copy on the box and install it? Also, I downloaded the cleint remote CLI and I have all the files needed to get that rough, but I just thought it would be easier now since I am able to ssh to the box.

Welcome to the VMware community forums.  ESXi is not design to allow the installation of the packages, and while it uses a code of Linux (for drivers for example) the vmkernel not Linux based so you can't add Linux packages on the console.   ESXi supports SNMP traps, but not of to and monitoring for the equipment is intended to be made through CIM providers.

  • Installation of VMware ESXI 6 in my server

    Hi all

I have a server that I have configured with raid 1 using the disk on the Server utility.

When I try to install VMWare ESXI on the server, in the part of the selection of the disk to install the ESXY appears only the physical disks and not the virtual drives configured in table mode. What should I do?

    Concerning

    Milton Aguiar

You are probably using some (aka 'false') 'software' edge RAID controller. These controllers require additional driver software to work. However, VMware supports only the real hardware RAID controllers, which are transparently logical volumes to the OS. Unless your hardware provider offering dedicated to ESXi drivers (HP as much I know as fact for some of theit controllers of Type B) you may not use the RAID on board.

  • Install a custom configuration for ESXi Installer for server 28 - Scsi.CRTimeoutDuringBoot value to 1

    Hello

First off I will say that I installed ESXi 4.1 in about 6 servers to date.  I have a large ESXi Cluster that contains the MSCS virtual machines.  I have the problem that described in http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1016106.  Now, workaround for the value Scsi.CRTimeoutDuringBoot value 1 works fine and shorten time of start of 40 + minutes to 8 minutes after post.  Now, what to install it?  Well, they suck.  Basically before you can actually adjust this via the gui VI client, you must go through 2 trunk of ESXi 4.1 (1 ffrom the CD and 1 after initial installation).  So, basically, to install ESXi on servers 1 takes me about 2 hours.  That sucks.  Anyone know how I can make a customized CD that includes the fix 'Scsi.CRTimeoutDuringBoot value to 1' already?  28 more servers to go and I'm not looking forward to that!  Please help...

  • Convert W2K Server installs drivers on logon

    Hi all

I used 7 Workstation and import files for p2v Windows 2000 Server. On the first connection to the virtual machine, windows tries to install a lot of drivers, i.e. motherboard, dvd, diskette, EISA Programmable controller, direct access memory, printer port, controller bus pci and more...

Because I wasn't sure what he was doing, I canceled their and not install them.

After the P2V, he is not supposed to be smooth sailing? What is going on? Someone can help me solve it, i.e. resources, links...

    Thanks for your help.

    Chris

Because I wasn't sure what he was doing, I canceled their and not install them.

The P2V process injects the drivers for the mass storage controller and the keyboard and mouse as well as the required Windows registry entries, otherwise Windows would not be able to enumerate the newly discovered virtual hardware and install the drivers or the user to be able to interact properly... So if an OS wants to install drivers for the detected hardware then you don't need to know what you are doing so to say other then to let the OS to do what it takes... then you shouldn't have cancelled it!

  • Add a 5.1 ESXI host to vcenter server 5.0

    Hi all

I just installed an esxi5.1 host and tried to add in vcenter server 5.0 without success.

    The error is:

A general error occurred: Timed waits vpxa to start

Is it possible to do? If not, is documented somewhere? I searched a lot and found nothing relevant.

The installation was made using an iso file, the new facility, in a shared, storage warehouse that has been formatted.

I don't want vcenter server 5.1 as the impact of my infrastructure is high.

    Thanks for the help!

VMware product interoperability matrix got the update and you would need 5.1 vCenter to manage 5.1 ESXi hosts

I am under 5 ESXi on a Dell Precision Workstation T7400 with Xeon e5405 double, 24 GB of RAM, NIC, Intel Server class and start on a 8 GB USB flash drive. ALL my direct s VM on my drive 5 QNAP NAS/SAN (with iSCSI LUNS for VM). You can sometimes find this system on the site of Dell making, or where they sell off rental equipment. It is a full interpreter since ESXi 3.5 for me.

At one point I used the onboard storage via a PERC 6 / i controller, but I have since removed that completely (as well as these drives) and simply boot from USB flash drive.

  • How to check the ESXi 4 installation location?

We have server ESXi 4.0 with 2 storage areas... I would check that it contains installation ESXi 4. How can I do this?

Welcome to the VMware forums communities.  In the vSphere client, select Configuration > storage.  Select each data store, and then click Properties.  If you have ESXi installed on one of the LUNS, you'll see a bunch of partitions non-dos measuring device lists.
