ESXi on dual processor server

I am looking to buy a new server for a new installation of the free ESXi.

This server I have my eye on is a dual processor with two cores in each processor.

The free version of ESX 4i will be able to use all the resources correctly on this server?

What is my fault to use a dual processor with two cores in conjunction with the free version of ESXi?

I plan on hosting only 5-10 virtual machines on ESXi.

Thanks in advance.

Just make sure that you apply your key, which will take your copy of ESXi off evaluation mode.

Not last time I checked.  When you have completed the form for your free license, on what he should ask you how many processors you plan to use it.  Just type "999" and it works perfectly.  Honestly, I think it's just for survey purposes and that all the keys will work with multi-CPU systems, even if you have entered '1 '.  WCS on this, is that you must reregister and get a different key.

  • Can I get maximum performance with dual processor socket

    Hi all

a dealer offer me a HP workstation xw8600 with this specification:

    HP xw 8600
    Intel Xenon CPU E5440
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 4600
    power electric 1050 watts

Motherboard is a socket for dual processor with two processor E5440 xenon (12 M Cache, 2.83 GHz, four hearts, 1333 MHz FSB)

    My question is:

is the work of two processor together?  Or a job and the other spare part?

    and can I get sum of them?  Say I have: 2 * 4 core processor * 2.83 GHZ 22,64 = total?

    Thank you

The HP QuickSpecs for the xw8600:

You can see that there are faster quad hearts that the E5440, but those running with 120 or 150 watts max output each (4 cores) processor and the motherboard can detect those more power needs and want you to use the 'double height' radiators posted on this forum in the past, for each processor.

So this processor of 80 watt is the fastest, you can officially run only big radiator/fans with the smaller accompanying these processors.

The second processor is used... is not a spare part.  All 8 cores running simultaneously, each at the speed indicated.  Many programs can use additional drivers, so speed tests a computer running 8 cores are twice that of the computer that runs the 4 cores of the processor even speed.  For example, as previously posted here, some of my speed tests on a single versus installation double processor on the same workstation HP upped the partitions Windows 7 Windows Experience Index of 7.2 to 7.6.  Noticeable, but not a doubling.

Unless you have obtained the xw8600 for a purchase cost best eBay to them (which you won't) I would advise to buy a used Z600.  You will get a more mature workaholic.  Regarding the Z620... my work on those who told me that HP is still perfecting things.  Right now, it's more like a race horse.  So, there are a few good reasons to fall back a generation of the Z620 if you buy used... benefit from important and bugs costs worked better.  All you get to do all the updates that are available from HP for this workstation.

  • Cannot add ESXi host to vCenter Server

    Hello

I created a home set up a VMware datacenter for study purposes. I currently have 2 virtual machines: an ESXi host with vCenter Server Appliance deployed on this subject.

I configured the server vCenter through web interface device and I have connected using vSphere Client.

I created a data center, but when I try to add a host, I get "ERROR: the request exceeded."
Connection with vSphere client directly to the ESXi host works.

I can connect using SSH to the ESXi host.

I have disabled the firewall on the ESXi host.

I have read many articles on the kbase but nothing helped me to solve this problem.

    You have any ideas?

    I finally got to understand.

It seems like my vmware workstation is not connected to the esxi as a physical host in my local network host, and so I was able to ping it unit of vCenter Server (but it worked the other way around, and that's why I thought it was ok).

After the connection to the physical LAN of VMware workstation settings, everything worked fine.

  • Esxi temporary 4.1u1 Server

I don't want to migrate to a temporary device soon, or better recommended.  Today, I realized that the temporary server I have is not on the HCL for 4.1u1 and that it is in the 3.5.x, era (its also not 64-bit).

I want the virtual machine that I am about to create on the server of temp to be ready so that when 4.1u1 I take it back to my permanent server, I don't require any kind of path of update later.

In a previous post, we went on different methods of P2V including: Converter between ESXi hosts, clone on server Vcenter, pulling to VMware workstation and then again when you are ready and the methods of type vMotion (sVMotion didn't, and vMotion got for this scenario).

Can anyone recommend methods for me to face the availiability of physical server not 4.1u1?  Maybe I can do things with the virtual machines that I think not.  Can I temporarily use a 64-bit "white box"?  But anyway... That's why I'm asking, because I don't know.

    Thank you.

  • VI Infrastructure Client-> Firewall-> ESXi Embedded 3.5 Server

    Hello world

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2900iii with the built-in in ESXi server and want to demonstrate the technology to our customers.  On my laptop, I installed the VI Client.  In our office, where the physical server, we have the port 443 forwarded to our virtual Small Business Server 2008 (on the Dell PowerEdge server) computer to 192.168.1.2 and port 903 forwarded to 192.168.1.3, which is our ESXi (the Dell PowerEdge server) server.  Searching the Internet, it seems that these are the two ports I need of robbing on the ESXi server, but my problem is that SBS requires port 443 for the remote access work.  Anyone know how I can get around this problem?

    Thanks for your help,

    Mike

Ideally, your ESXi host must not be exposed directly to the Internet.  You have the possibility to establish a VPN connection to the office?  Or you could RDP to the SBS and then run the VI client on it.

Here are some websites that address to ESX on a white box / motherboard combination. You'll want to keep your eyes on these sites that people more test their motherboards with ESXi 5.0 and publish their results.

In addition, if you use this for study purposes or for a laboratory, you must make sure that you get use processors having LAMELLA as feature (EPT for Intel, processors for AMD RVI). With SLAT allows you to nest the VMs 64-bit running as VMs under a 5.0 VM running on a physical ESX Server ESXi but also run alternative hypervisors as VMs under ESXi 5.0. This gives a lot more flexibility in a laboratory perspective and the study.

  • ESXi detect more processors that are physically present.

I just installed a new Cisco UCS C240 server with 2 physical processors (verfied via CIMC & physical inspection).  I installed ESXi 5.5 only for her to inform me that the servere has 4 processors inside.  It's physically impossible however now Vcentre I cannot apply license 2CPU avalible I have spare.  I tried to contact Vmware support, but it was an extreme waste of my time as they me palmed the 'license' team that has spent an hour looking at it and tell me what I already knew that he must go to the technical team.

    Hello

I think I saw a thread with exactly the same problem some time ago - basically, there is a feature that extends from the CPU on 2 NUMA nodes - this should be a feature of dopants, but is not yet supported by version 5.x of ESXi (not sure if 6.x). You should see the settings of the processor in the BIOS/UEFI and check the CPU settings - you should find a new feature that there are listed - disable

There is no need to reinstall in most cases. Only, you should check your CPU family.

  • Where to put M.2 SSD drives in P900 Workstation with Dual processor

So I have a P900 with dual Xeon E5 - 2643 v3 CPU. I have two m.2 SSD pluged in a flex connector. I was wondering if there is any advantage or increase performance by dividing the two SSD between processors, i.e. to put each training into its own flex connector and pluggin then those in the respective location of each processor.

    Thank you

    Bench1

No, you should not see a significant change in the UC records Division. The FLEX connector is a custom x 8 PCIe 3.0 slot and therefore supports about 7880 MB/s to the entire map of FLEX. It's about 3940 MB/s bandwidth of each SSD m2 on the adapter.

Until your SSD meet or exceed the 4 Gbps by SSD, it is not a value of split.

  • Installation of VMware ESXI 6 in my server

    Hi all

I have a server that I have configured with raid 1 using the disk on the Server utility.

When I try to install VMWare ESXI on the server, in the part of the selection of the disk to install the ESXY appears only the physical disks and not the virtual drives configured in table mode. What should I do?

    Concerning

    Milton Aguiar

You are probably using some (aka 'false') 'software' edge RAID controller. These controllers require additional driver software to work. However, VMware supports only the real hardware RAID controllers, which are transparently logical volumes to the OS. Unless your hardware provider offering dedicated to ESXi drivers (HP as much I know as fact for some of theit controllers of Type B) you may not use the RAID on board.

  • ESXi installation before vCenter Server?  How can I get vCenter Server on a virtual machine on ESXi servers?

My plan for a new vSphere Essentials Plus 5.5 U2a installation is to have the vCenter Server on a virtual machine on the servers of the host on which is installed ESXi.  However, all the installation instructions I found indicate the user to first install the vCenter Server.  How can I get vCenter Server on a virtual machine on ESXi servers?

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi munkyman welcome to communities.

After you have installed your first ESXi host, open a browser and go to https://your-ESXi-ip-or-FQDN

You can download the vSphere Client here. It is a windows application that you can install on your desktop. It is often referred to as the "c# Client vSphere" in communities and blog posts, because it is a new implemented in the vCenter Server Web client.

But for the beginning, install the vSphere Windows Client. You can then launch it and connect directly to your ESXi host. Here you can create your first virtual machine, which can be the VM vCenter (installation of Windows or device, that is you).

You can use the web client or connect to the Server with the client c# vSphere vCenter VCenter runs.
