ESXi 5.1 and UCS blades

Hello

I heard that there is a performance extremely questions degradedation with Vpshere5.1 currently running on the blades of the UCS, I wonder if anyone has confirm this or has any documented information on this. I am running vsphere5.0 and I really want to go to 5.1 but if there is really any questions I've heard that it can be in my best interest not to upgrade.

Thank you!!!

I have not heard this either.

  • Monitoring of virtual machines running on the UCS blades

We are in the process of migration of servers HP rack to Cisco UCS blades. I have 4 blades UCS running ESXi and dΘmarrez from SAN. We have configured in HP SIM HP servers to monitor hardware issues and the status of the VM. Now Let's watch the material of the UCS in UCS Manager, but I still need to monitor the status of virtual machines. I looked at existing Solarwinds NPM we have all our ESXi HP servers to Solarwinds. What I've discovered, is that we cannot add the individual to NPM ESXi blades, because we can not configure SNMP (or we).

Which means that migrate us from HP servers for UCS blades, we lose the ability to monitor the State of the CPU and VM.

How people monitor their virtual machines in an environment of UCS?

    Thank you.

We monitor our UCS ESXi 5 with SNMP hosts and use Solarwinds NPM.  It works well.  These are the commands that we send through our VMA (free VMware) server to a new host.

    vicfg-snmp - root server - username - password it

    vicfg-snmp - root server - username - password you @162.

There's probably a way to do it on the console of the host, but I don't know what it could be.

    THK for help me!

    Joshua,

I would like to know which model server you use and if the ESXi version you have installed is the customized version of Cisco ESXi?

I bet it's a new facility... It seems that the server does not see a boot image, even if it looks like the strategy of starting point actually on local disks, but I saw strange things how to get when the not custom ESXi .iso image is used.

Try to use the custom version found here.

I installed ESXi on a series B UCS blade but were unable to enumerate the UUID (set via Service profile) with the... smbiosDump, more than command.

All other fields back properly for the serial number, etc... but no UUID. UUID returns: "undefined, but can be defined.    Is this a problem of ESXi and UCS?

  • Map of ESX/ESXi DRS/HA/FT-UCS M71KR - Nexus 1000

    Hi all

I have a doubt about the configuration of ESX/ESXi in congiunction with ucs years n1k.

If I use the channel (mac-pinning based due to material ucs) on n1k and I have only two NIC (M71KR) card can I properly configure FT/HA or DRS.

having a port-channel vmware is informed of nic ha? I may have some redundant warning as a note to management interface or stuff like that?

    any idea of?

    TNX

    Dan

    Dan,

We work with the DRS, FT and HA. You will be able to configure a Port-Channel with MAC-pinning and always use DRS, the FT and HA feature.

To create the channel port, you must add the two network interface cards to the DVS in a perspective of VMware is aware that you have redundancy NIC.

  • ESXi 3.5 and 4.1

I have a Dell ESXi 3.5 Server Blade 1955 and an ESXi 4.1 Dell M610 Blade Server with 2 NIC is installed. I want to implement a NIC on a static IP address isolated, for the developer environment and the other NETWORK adapter on the network DHCP Production, for the Production of the VM. How can I set this up because in the Configuration, it seems that allow the consolidation of NETWORK cards and does not separate NIC configurations? Please advise? Thank you.

What you want to do is definitely possible and I hope that I am not insulting you by doing this oversimplified but I need to do if I understand - first thing, I want to emphasize is you do not assign a IP address for the physical network cards but to VMs or vmkernel ports attached to virtual machine port destructive, so with this in mind.

When you have generated your ESXi host a virtual switch (vSwitch0) was created - if you have kept the default settings the sich would have a management port vmkernel assigned IP address and a port group of usually called virtual machine VM Network with the vmnic0 physical NIC attached as the uplink port - I guess that's the good guy connected to the physical port configured for your network engineering. The first thing you can do is to add a second virtual with the vSphere client switch, creating a virtual machine port group and if you kept the default settings, the only available physical NIC would be vmnbic1, which I suppose it is plugged into the port DHCP - now when you create virtual machines and set the networking you will be given the choice to connect to two different machine groups virtual port - whne connect the virtual machine to the virtual port on vSwitch0 group you must assign an IP address to VM from the pool of IP addresses available on the negineering network, and if you connect to the computer virtual to virtual machine on vSwitch1 port group you will need to configure the virtual machine to DHCP and it will be assigned an IP address from your DHCP server

See article 3 of the http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r41/vsp_41_esxi_server_config.pdf - the steps are very similar for ESXi 3.5.

  • U3 Cruzer Slice and Cruzer Blade available? (SDCZ50 / SDCZ37)

    Hello

First of all, sorry for my English, I m still to learn ;-)

We are an official distributor of Sandisk in Spain, we´ve had a few questions about the new units cruzer, slice and the blade.

Provided that we have understood Sandisk removed the all readers Oct-2009 usb U3 partition and remained as an optional choice, the question is:

Can we install the U3 technology through the Sandisk U3 installer in any unit of Sandisk Cruzer? Or is there some cruzer models who do not accept U3? We got some customers who bought the Cruzer Blade and reported that they couldn t install the U3 app.

Thanks in advance for your answer!

    MemoryVal

Older devices which were manufactured before 10/09 will always support U3 and the user can install it using the U3 Installer. devices manufactured after that 10/09 do not support U3 and it cannot be installed.

  • Dependent Service in UCSM material of blade profiles? Is that we can assign the same service to a B200M2 profile, B230 M2 and a blade of B200M3?

Dependent Service in UCSM material of blade profiles?

Is that we can assign the same service to a B200M2 profile, B230 M2 and a blade of B200M3?

An example: if my B200 M2 goes down because of a hardware failure, I replaced the same slot with a B200 M3 Blade. Then is possible that I have separate Service of B200M2 profile and associate the same Service profile with B200M3?

    Hi Deepak,

    It is certainly possible.

If there is no problem, because of incompatibilities, it triggers a failed configuration error, the service profile is related to the new blade.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you

  • vmnic redundancy and UCS

I use Cisco UCS with standard and distributed switches in VMware.  By port group vmnic how do I need?  The vmnic isn't actually physical NIC in this case, just virtual representations made by UCS to the virtual switch.  Is there any point in having more than one VMNIC by port group?  My dismissal is managed by UCS with map a VMNIC unique muliptle physical connections.  Have 2 vmnic in VMware create redundancy or performance gain or not only made it the design more complex?  Should I use a vmnic and UCS, make sure that a VMNIC able to use multiple paths physical if one breaks down?

You will need two network cards, one per Module e/s, in order to provide a path to these two UCS fabric interconnects.
