  And if you are worried to screw up your installation...

  You can restore the State before your update by pressing SHIFT - R to the ESXi boot prompt and select the other bootbank to boot from.

  Yes.  ESX also fits grand you need to run virtual machines.  Depends above all on material.  We have IBM 3950.  Each of them is core 16 / 2.93 GB CPU / 63GB of RAM, and we use SAN attached fibre.  just one of these IBM servers running 77 VM.  I pushed him to 100, and he has not yet shown signs of degradation in performance.  It is what you need and configure for your hardware.

  Hey everybody,

  I installed Astaro Security Gateway as a virtual machine under ESXi 3.5 Update 3. The installation went successfully and I configured the Astaro to use two VNic (eth0 and eth1). I set up eth0 on the Astaro to use 192.168.2.100

  My question is: how would I be able to access the WebAdmin of this (192.168.2.100:4444) gateway from a remote machine (i.e. my laptop under VI Client)?

  Here are some more in-depth details of config:

  ESXi IP = 192.168.0.187 (provided by our physical switch/DHCP server)

  Under Configuration - & gt; Networking, I see not what follows (see attached photo)

  You have reason vmnic1 is not used - using the second physical NIC (vmnic1) you will need or create a second virtual sritch by right-clicking on the network link add or by adding the vmnic1 to vswitch0 to create a NIC team.

• CRUCIAL QUESTION - BETA ZONE DELETED?

  Once connected to https://developer.blackberry.com/beta I get redirected to https://developer.blackberry.com/beta/isv/ without app program listings. I can't access the previously accessible app management console.

  It is a crucial issue for me. Since yesterday, I had more than 20 000 + install my apps BlackBerry beta Zone. My clients are going to be furious. These are all native applications.

  This must be remounted. Someone made a serious mistake in updating the beta site and (fingers crossed), it has not completely deleted all my work for 4 months.

• ESXi 4.1 - Question about the memory usage

  Hi all

  I am currently in the process of migrating from ESX 3.5 and ESXi 4.1.0 everything by making the upgrade of my equipment (3 x HP DL380 G7, 24GO RAM, CPU Intel X 5660 2 each).

  The boxes are installed with ESXi 4.1.0 Build 384481 and hpq - esxi4.1uX - bundle-1. 0a, hardware monitoring is done using HP SIM (V6, Windows).

  What bothers me, however, is that the VSphere Client (4.1.0 Build 345043) reports steadlily increases the memory usage in the Summary tab. The increase varies according to the system, ranging from 98MB in 1848 MB in the last 3 days, continues to grow.

  During this time the performance tab reports consumed memory exceeds granted memory.

  Everyone saw this behavior, too? Is this normal or am I facing a memory leak here?

  good no worries. Here's the jsutification who might come to our rescue.

  the reason to ask to the image is to understand tips on different time and or prabably model.

  officers of 3rd party as HP may be one of the reasons for these behaviours and this pumps memory when they perceive newspapers. I think it's side normal use would normally not go beyong 2000 MB for an esxi normal opertaing without no VM

  I suggest you to watch more than two days and see if it grows even more...

• ESXi scripted install question KS.cfg

  I am trying to build a test script environment install esxi 4.1.  I can't find or get the default KS.cfg file.  The doco shows the location as /etc/vmware/weasel/ks.cfg but I can't find the file.  How to extract the image to simply get this boot file?  Why didn't they just put in the installed product as before?

  The default KS.cfg matches that in the documentation of ESXi on page 34 - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r41/vsp_41_esxi_i_vc_setup_guide.pdf

  You can just copy that since this is the exact even if you were to check out it. The default KS.cfg is also embedded in a python script in the iso ESXi 4.1, but you'll need to extract to ienviron.vgz. Copying files to a UNIX/Linux or even the ESX host and make sure that put you it in a new directory temporarily.

  You will then do the following:

  tar -zxvf ienviron.vgz
  

  Now you should see 3 new directories created: etc, lib and usr and if you cat out the file following, you will also see where the default KS.cfg is created from:

• Dell ESXi Embedded 4u2 - question for a real customer

  There is confusion to come among the members of our team on what exactly includes Dell in the licensed versions of the ESXi embedded (Advanced and Enterprise Plus) on their servers.  Surprisingly, the Dell customer service team is just as confused and we get nowhere.

  The words of his Dell as VSphere rather ESXi just because the docs say it supports VMotion, DRS, FT, etc..

• New to ESXi: Simple backup question

  Hello

  I'm new to ESXi but have used VMWare Server and WorkStation.

  My current practice is to create virtual machines with drive / size of the file in increments of 2 GB.

  In this way, I end up with small files, even for a virtual hard disk of 80 GB. I can then move the files to another VMWare host and re-create all VM.

  Now on ESXi, I see that all of the 80 GB is attributed...

  If I take a snapshot (which I think translates into a smaller file) and backup, it would be sufficient to re - create the VM then

  go back to the snapshot? I'd be able to do this on a different host ESXi?

  Any suggestions?

  Export of OVF format are surprisingly low in most cases, depends on how full are your disks of virtual machines, blocks null are excluded and the data are compressed export.

  Hi guys, im experiencing a very rare problem with a fresh install ESXi, I hope someone could provide advice because I was not able to find a solution, here's my scenario:

  • ESXI 6.0U2 new facility in headless server Dell.
  • With the help of NIC Mellanox ConnectX-3.
  • Connected to a device Cisco had that a trunk is defined and ephemeral VLAN 8 and 10.
  • Management network reports to Vlan 8;  from there I have all the problems, all other VLANs are available including external services such as Internet and Wan.
  • Vswitch0 created with groups of ports to the VLAN specific (8 and 10).

  Now, here's the question;  When I create a virtual machine (tested with windows 7, windows 10, windows server 2008 and windows server 2012) of windows and I attribute the Group of ports for vlan 8 or 10 of Vlan, VM can ping all hosts on the subnet, except the entry door, obviously I can't access other VLANs and external services due to the gateway is not visible the strange thing is that I have created linux VM and everything seems to work fine, these machines can see their front door entrance and all other VLANs and external services.

  If any of you have experienced something similar?

  Do you know if there is a patch must be applied to ESXI?

  Do you know if there is a specific patch to be applied to windows?

  You will appreciate any help on this.

  Finally found question, Mellanox pilot had a bug, I've just updated the native drivers on ESXi and the question of family disappeared. Thank you all for your support.

  From what I understand you works offline (without Vcenter server), so pay that you can not find the license on the home page Manager.

  Pour adding a license to your host ESX (i), you simply connects you to your host via Vsphere, then:

  Home page-inventory - this position on the host -------configuration \Fonctions allowed------affect a new license key and off you go.

• Switching between ESX and ESXi

  I currently have 3 servers with 1 running an Openfiler SAN with my VM on them.  I have on the other 2 servers what ESX installed on SATA hard drives.  Now I want to install ESXi on a USB pen because of the license of the ESX trial and wanting a more permanent Setup for my lab at home (still need to study ESX on and wasting his time with for my VCP I intend to take in 2011).  I want to put in place a system dual boot where I can either start in ESX or ESXi.  My question is if I say a VM in ESX I'll be able to see that VM in ESXi or vice versa (or at least be able to import them)?

  Yes, you can, as long as the ESX or ESXi the can access the openfiler VMFS (you may need to represent as the IQN name would change after). Browse the data store > folder VM - > right click on the vm - name.vmx and save the virtual machine. Maximum power and there you go...

• Change the HARD disk in VMWare ESXi 3 Server

  I'm new in the Comunnity. I have the following problem:

  I have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 III with six 7.2 K rpm HDs in RAID 5 running VMWare ESX 3i in an internal USB unit. In this server, I have a virtual machine running a mail server. I have problems of performance of disks in servers and we will change the discs on 15 K RPM drive and change the RAID 10 RAID level. I activated the SSH in VMWare ESXi and my question is: is it possible to copy the virtual machine using Winscp or other method forders, rebuilt my RAID, and then copy these files to VMWare again?

  I'would want to know your suggestions on this matter.

  You may need to use "add to inventory" since the UUID will be different on the store of data on disks. If we then open the data store with and navigate to the virtual machine. Right click and Add. You answer that you move them.

• ESXi 4 re - install without loss of data on data warehouses separated, local

  I have an ESXi 4 installation home with 3 SATA drives installed with 3 data stores.

  1 data store is empty and is on the disc used to install ESXi (I intend to format this drive and re - install ESXi)

  My question is now: I would be able to "import" the other two stores of data on the new installation without losing my data? My VMs are located on two other data stores, and all my data is also located here...

  ESX will see and ask if you want to maintain or format.
