  I'm working on my KS.cfg file for a script of ESXi 4.1 installation. I was wondering about the command dryrun. I have this command at the top of my KS.cfg file. This create a log file or just spit the results on the screen? Mine doesn't seem to work. Here's my kickstart file. Any suggestions would be welcome, because this file can be a Booger to configure.

  Just the kickstart of the stanza dryrun analysis and valid syntax, and you should get a pop-up window indicating whether or not is it or if there were errors/warnings. Everything is recorded in /var/log/esxi_install.log that you can take a look at logging to the console by pressing alt + f1

• Shell on ESXi scripting

  I wrote a few scripts audit health (shell scripts) in accordance with the requirement of clients on ESX 3.x. Today, I received a request for the assessment of health on ESXi server. I have no knowledge on ESXi and I know that there will be no service console (CLI) for ESXi.

  but one of my colleague who works on the ESXi connected via a map RIB (ILO) and given access to me to see if I can run ESXi server health check script. Strange thing for me, is that I saw a prompt on the ESXi server. To confirm that I tried a command vmware - a command output is showing clearly that ESXi 4.0.  I saw that esxcfg-* commands are there in this server. but basic redhat like ifconfig... commands etc. it has not been found.

  now my question is

  Is it possible to run scripts of shell of my health on the ESXi server check?

  You can get the vCLI (used to qualify the RCLI) from here - http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vcli/.  He moved to Linux or Windows.   You can also download the vMA (see link above), which is a Linux VM with the installed vCLI.  It also adds fastpass, which eliminates the need for authentication and it includes a receiver syslogging that you can use with your ESXi hosts to capture newspapers.

• When I install Greasemonkey. Firefox does not load. The process is, but the program does not appear. Even if no script installed. I have Aurora

  It was working fine until one time I don't know what happened.

  I've been OCing things lately so don't know if this has something to do with it. But I have the last Aurora and Greasemonkey and for some reason loads of process, but not the program. It appears at all.

  I had no idea what was originally there and a little started to remove one by one and found out who he was.

  I even tried to remove all scripts, but that has not worked.

  Tampermonkey works fine with Chrome atm. So, I do not understand. I have roughly the same installed scripts.

  For any information would help. I tried to ask questions about greasemonkey, but nothing at this ATM. My problem seems a bit unique, so I post here to possibly discover this. It bothers me not not using my scripts, I love.

  Hi all

  We just picked up a few m3 ucs240 servers and need to install esxi. We have no physical disks in servers. The var, that we bought has two technicians with different points of view about the location of the installation. Their arguments are as follows,

  Tech 1 I always install on the USB

  Tech 2 I always use the flexflash if they have

  Tech 3 (me) I better get some other points of view.

  Note only the slot 1 of the flexflash has a map in SD253, Im guessing its a sd card?

  Is there a difference in performance?

  Is there a best practice?

  Any advice/help would be very appreciated.

  Hi Robert,.

  If you go with the SD install the card you have the advantage of having a redundancy with the second sd card.  In the 1.5 firmware relase we added a new feature that allows you to configure raid 1 on these SD cards.

• First time to install Question

  I am doing my first bare metal installation and I got myself confused.

  I have a new Dell with a Perc H710 server and I downloaded the ISO of ESXi 5.5 1 cumulative hotfix driver 2 (includes the VMWare tools). I also downloaded the Perc adapter driver file megaraid_sas - 06.803.52.00 - 1742752.zip, because the H710 did not appear in the PDF which goes hand in hand with the ISO.

  The instructions for the Perc driver said to copy the VIB on the ESX Server. But how does the installation if the Perc drive must be installed?

  So I guess my real question is what is the correct process to follow to install ESXi on my server?

  And if you are worried to screw up your installation...

  You can restore the State before your update by pressing SHIFT - R to the ESXi boot prompt and select the other bootbank to boot from.

• Migration ESXi server: install vCenter Server 2.0?

  We are currently migrating to VMware Server 2.0 to ESXi 4 (local storage only execution Essentials).  At this moment we have (2) host VMware Server 2.0.  As part of our move, we will deploy a new server (host) for ESXi and need to install vCenter, so we can start (convert virtual machines, etc.).  The plan will be to move all production of VMS Server 2.0 to the new host ESXi 4 in a piecemeal fashion and then once's done it install ESXi 4 on one of the host VMware Server 2 old servers.

  Because we cannot do this big bang, my question is: can we install vCenter as a VM on the server 2.0 while we are migrating to ESXi?

  Once our move to ESXi is complete (end of the game, we have 2 ESXi hosts and 1 host Vmware server 2), can we then convert and move the VM vCenter to one of the new ESXi servers?   Sort of a game of shuffle, but I see no other choice and I hope it works well.  Comment on reviews would be great.  Thank you...

  Why don't you just create a new virtual machine in the box of ESXi, installing vCenter, and then start the conversion of your VM from VMware Server ESXi? It is the method I would use.

  In case you're not aware - you can always create virtual machines on ESXi without vCenter.

  "You use the CD of ESXi 4.0 to install ESXi 4.0 on a hard drive, SAS, SATA, or SCSI software.

  Installation on a Fibre Channel SAN network is supported experimentally. Do not try to install ESXi with a fixed SAN, unless you want to try this experimental feature.

  Hey everybody,

  I installed Astaro Security Gateway as a virtual machine under ESXi 3.5 Update 3. The installation went successfully and I configured the Astaro to use two VNic (eth0 and eth1). I set up eth0 on the Astaro to use 192.168.2.100

  My question is: how would I be able to access the WebAdmin of this (192.168.2.100:4444) gateway from a remote machine (i.e. my laptop under VI Client)?

  Here are some more in-depth details of config:

  ESXi IP = 192.168.0.187 (provided by our physical switch/DHCP server)

  Under Configuration - & gt; Networking, I see not what follows (see attached photo)

  You have reason vmnic1 is not used - using the second physical NIC (vmnic1) you will need or create a second virtual sritch by right-clicking on the network link add or by adding the vmnic1 to vswitch0 to create a NIC team.

• Oracle Database 10 g Client install question, firewall blocking java.exe

  I am developing an installation in silent mode for the Oracle 10 g Client database and found that near the end of the installation (whether or not so quiet) the Windows Firewall prompts me to block or allow javaw.exe. The javaw.exe is under my file folder in a path of single folder every time I run it, because one of the files includes the date and time in the name of the folder. If I use OUI.exe to start installation then java.exe (not javaw.exe) is the program that Windows Firewall tries to block.
  
  I tried to include wildcard characters in the registry values that govern the exceptions in Windows Firewall, but it seems that wildcards are not allowed. Since the full path to java/javaw is necessary, I'm stumped on how to this script effectively.
  
  What I noticed though is that if you do not answer the quick Security Center block/unblock maintaining the install goes and seems to end normally.
  
  So my question is twofold:
  
  1. is it important for the Setup program if Windows Firewall will block java or java?
  2 has anyone found their enterprise environment use WF in this way and has had this problem, and if yes what have you?

  Hi, I have recently buy a Mini 5101 it comes with XP Pro and Vista Business... I currently have Vista Business installed on it. I wonder about the process of upgrading to windows 7. On the free upgrade Web site it is said that the operating system can be upgraded to windows 7, according to the weather, I have vista (upgrade straigh) or xp (must be a stable cleaning). Now, my question is can I perform a clean installation with this upgrade? I know that normally you can perform a clean install via the insertion of the disc of the previous operating system media during installation, but as the Min 5101 is a netbook (no cd drive) I will probably install it via a USB key. It is very important for me to have a clean install.

  On the upgrade Web site, it says that if you are using XP pro, you must perform a clean installation. It would be better for me to install XP now order the update, and then install Vista so that I can get the version that will allow me to perform a clean installation - or I'd get the same disc anyway?

  I know the installation disc doesn't have not yet been outside and not so should know the process entirely. Kind of hope that someone will have knowledge on this subject.

  The installation media will allow you to perform a clean installation 'upgrade' using product key of the current operating system during installation. This allows him to check that you are upgrading from a previous version of Windows.

• HP Compaq 6370b: Clean partition Win 7 install question

  My first post.

  I have a laptop HP Compaq 6370b, S/N [number of Series edited by Moderator] running Win XP and plan on running a new install for Win 7 Pro 32 bit. I have upgraded the BIOS (as suggested by the forum) at F.20 on 16/12/2014 and reviewed messages on the partition for HP tools. My question is when I format the existing HHD I must add a partition for the HP tools? A response by Dragon fur message leads me to believe that the download and installation of HP tools UEFI create a folder on the operating system drive and I would not require an additional partition.  Thanks for your help.

  Should uefi tools be installed on a separate FAT or Fat32 partition to work properly
