ESXi and HA on Workstation 7.1.1

I have a couple of ESXi servers installed with a SAN Openfiler. Everything seems to work except HA. Errors of resource poor and unable to communicate with a senior officer of HA. Just about everything trying to make it work. DNS seems very well.

Just wondering if it was just an impossibility with workstation or if someone managed to activate and test HA on workstation.

Thank you.

How much RAM do you have given the ESXi hosts?

I struggled for a long time because I only gave it 2 GB when she needed 3 GB.

  • Unable to ping ESXi 5.5 VM workstation 11 comments

    Hey all,.

A lot of research and have not found good results. Currently impossible to ping to my VM ESXi from my Windows 10 laptop that runs 11 workstation.  I installed a custom VMnet (host only) with a specific subnet to the ESXi management interface. I loaded this VMnet even to my ESXi VM settings. I dropped my windows firewall, disabled the anti-virus software, disabled firewall ESXi and reconfigured NIC drivers to vmxnet3 without success. I know the VMnet I created works because I have an XP machine VMnet even we are able to ping successfully between my laptop and the XP VM.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

Fixed with the help of collaborator. I'm all new to VMware and I have a lot to learn.

With the configuration, it is indicated in my previous post, I made the following changes.

Modification of my trade to VLAN ID 0

Configured for vmxnet3 NETWORK interface drivers

I can now my computer vSphere mobile host in my ESXi 5.5 VM guest.

  • Nested ESXI 5.1 in Workstation 5.5 9/10 - constantly losing the connection

    Hi all

I am trying to build my using ESXI VMware Lab nested in VMware workstation. My hardware configuration is:

    CPU-Xeon E5 - 1620 v3, 7 GHz

    Motherboard: Asus P9X79

First HARD - SSD 128 GB David M5S drive

    Second HDD - Segate 3.5 "2 TB ST2000DM001

    RAM-2x8GB Kingston HyperX 1600 MHz DDR3 Non - ECC CL10

I installed Windows 7 x 64 SP1 and Windows 8.1x64. On both systems is the same. Workstation works fine for 10-15 minutes. After this date, all (vSphere, SSH for hosted OS) connections are closed. I installed a Linux CentOS 6.5, 5.1 ESXI and ESXI 5.5. Linux CentOS 6.5 are inside of ESXI. All connections are bridged.

Then when I reconnect by vSphere or SSH connection, everything works well for the next 10 to 15 minutes.

Below you can see the Logs of Windows (sorry, but I have the Polish version of Windows) and VMware Workstation logs (in this version of the example 9.0.3 1410761) of c:\ProgramData\VMware\hostd\hostd-12.log.

I enclose also a few screenshots.

I would like more information, please ask me.

Any idea what can cause this problem?

    Hello

I found what caused this problem. In my lab environment, I have the WRT54G-TM with DD - WRT router onboard. It has been configured in Client Bridge mode. He has some problem with mains supply. I disconnected the router from my computer and plugged directly on the wireless NIC card. He helped with the interruption of network problems, but there were a lot of issues with routing etc. I bought new router TP-Link TL-WR740n v4.27 and connect as a client mode on my primary wireless router. After that everything works fine.

Once again thank you for trying to help.

I hope this helps someone simillar questions.

    Thank you!

  • ESX, ESXi and vCenter and virtual machines

Hello all - I need to re - certify my VCP this month so I decided to sit down this weekend to set up a virtual lab.  I managed to get ESX, ESXi and vCenter working all in s vm on my laptop in less than 4 GB.  I use Player version 3 for now.  I have Workstation 6.5 but I have to spend my VCP to get a key of 7 workstations and improve it.

The manual is a bit long, but here is the link if you are interested.  I'll update everything to Workstation 7 after my review.  I hope that some of you find it useful!

    Nice - Thanks for posting.

I doubt that you must update for Workstation 7 as VMplayer 3 is nothing else than a torn Workstation 7. It has the same basic functionality.

So, nothing will be different if you use Workstation

By the way - Starwind is really nice simulate a San.

Another interesting thing, that you know may not...

It is possible to assign up to 8 GB of RAM to your virtual ESXs, even if the host itself has only 4 GB of RAM.

    For this I have

    prefvmx.useRecommendedLockedMemSize = 'TRUE '.

    prefvmx.minVmMemPct = '5 '.

in the file config.ini from the host. Do not run and then

Using this trick, I was able to run 4 ESX virtual machines on my laptop 4 GB RAM running 2 k 3-32 bit host

  • ESXi and OpenFiler

OK, that's more information for me...

IM new in the area of esxi, but have used vmware workstation for years...

I have install esxi on a dell optiplex desktop computer (for test sake)

    and installed

Server 2003 domain controller 1 vm, dhcp, dns

Server 2003 with Server services and Altiris deployment pxe

I can start... a new machine virtual boot (pxe boot) network and the image of a virtual machine with XP using altiris...

    all this is good...

now that im confused about saying are a SIN...

    I saw freenas and openfiler

IM install openfiler now but my question is...

1 files (say in iso format and applications installation media) are in a virtual machine session or may openfiler connect to a hard drive.

My goal is just to take an ide drive... connect to a desktop computer and copy on a ton of media in iso format and applications...

to connect that back to the esxi and use it as a file server...

If im a little confused on the part...

IM testing things that we will get our dell blades operational soon and im trying to emulate what we have in there... I just don't understand how you have a file server that can simply use drives without OS...

    confused? I'm so...

If you install OpenFiler, it will allow you to take the space that OpenFiler can see and share on the network.  You can do it in format NAS, which means that you share space as UNIX (NFS format) network drive or network Windows (CIFS) drive.  CIFS will allow you to map as a drive of Windows machines.  What I wanted to say, it is that you won't be able to take this drive somewhere else for a different operating system and recognized her as you think.

  • Want to take the certification VCP6-VTC, but I finished the 5.5 ESXi and vCenter Server 5.5

    Hello

2 years ago I had the training for 5.5 ESXi and vCenter Server 5.5 - I wonder if that would satisfy the requirement and allows me to pass the exam VCP6-VTC?  Or should I stick with the VTC VCDP5 only?

    Have you taken after school.

5.5 vSphere install, configure and manage.

If so, please attend vSphere: what's new [5.5 to 6.0]

It is a 2 day course that will allow you to take the exam VCP6-VTC.

Otherwise, take VCP550 review and upgrade to VCP6-VTC in taking 2V0 - 621D.

    Pleaes see following URLs too.

  • vCloud Director: using different groups of ESXi and vCenters

Apologies for a question very newb-ish, but my knowledge of the vCD is very limited.

VCD of can control and manage the following:

    1. multiple ESXi clusters under the vCenter even?

vCD-> ESXi group has and ESXi cluster B

    2. several server vCenter, with their own groups of ESXi.

vCD-> A vCenter and vCenter B.  vCenter cluster Cluster A1 ESXi and ESXi A2 A-> vCenter B-> Cluster B1 ESXi and ESXi cluster B2.

I hope that all the senses.  I'll be happy to extrapolate more.

    Hello

    Please find the answers

    1. multiple ESXi clusters under the vCenter even?

vCD-> ESXi group has and ESXi cluster B

Yes, VCD support certainly take the resources of multiple clusters. To be more specific model allocation is deciding factor we can extend on cluster or not.

    2. several server vCenter, with their own groups of ESXi.

vCD-> A vCenter and vCenter B.  vCenter-> Cluster A1 ESXi and ESXi cluster A2.  vCenter B-> Cluster B1 ESXi and ESXi cluster B2.

Yes, we can certainly have several VC related to VCD. To max, it supports 25 VC.

  • Closing and reopening the workstation with running virtual machines

I have recently upgraded to 10 Workstation and I am having a strange problem. In preferences, I have checked option which says "continue to VMs run after the closure of workstation. In workplace planned 9 this option worked exactly, but workstation 10 seems that partially works as expected. In Workstation 9 I could close my computer, and then open then in from the tray icon to always see my virtual machines running with the small green icon play on them. However, in the 10 workstation I close the workstation and all my virtual machines continue to run, but when I reopen it workstation all my virtual machines appear in the workstation as if they are off; but they run because I can RDP for them. If I right click on one of them all is grey with the exception of mark it as a favorite and delete. I can't power off, change the settings, see the console, or anything like that. The shows the icon that VMs are being run, but even suspend, stop or suspend tray icon options or background open VMs do not work either. The only way I found actually to get my computer working again is to use the Task Manager to kill the task of vmware - vmx.exe. As soon as the task is killed for each workstation running, they operate again in the workstation.

If anyone has encountered this problem, or know a fix for this? I have run several virtual machines and never have any idea that vmware - vmx.exe is for what VM when needing to change something on one of them. I make sure that I can kill them all in order to make a change to one of them.

    David Moore

Ok. I have this problem. However, the fix has been an awareness in desperate need of repair. I ended up uninstalling the VMware Workstation and then remove all references to the registry with REGEDIT. I then restarted the computer and reinstalled VMware Workstation again. After this heavy treatment, it works again the way it should work. It seems that the upgrade to the latest version of Workstation 9 to the latest version of 10 break something somewhere.

By the way, Dayworker, it was and is version 10.0.3.

I thought that ESXi should see 'one' in the car for me to put on.and data warehouses, then the RAID controller would just reflect. But when I try to create a data store, it allows me to opt for the second time either of these discs on first, then the other drive. Is this job right? This doesn't seem to be just if I can just add warehouses of data on each disk individually.

which means that you are not using the controller RAID HRDWARE and using your software RAID. in esxi software RAID is not supported

  • a few questions about ESXi and SAN CF with HP P2000 G3

    Hello everyone!

I am new to ESXi and SAN, then I need help for her.

I have Encolosure C7000 system with 4 blades BL460c already installed ESXi 5.1U1 (HP custome ISO image). Everything works fine now, but I do not understand something:

-What is the management network which I use vSphare Client to connect to? It is a private network to manage ESXi servers what difference with VMnetwork used by Virtual Machines? Because I've set up an IP address for this connection manually, but it is of course separate with IP addresses, I used on Virtual Machines.

-If my system has problem, so I have to reinstall ESXi, license keys can be used again? Already, I have 8 license key for 4 blades (2 CPUs per server), but they have not yet used. Because I am new to ESXi, cause I had to reinstall ESXi several times to understand.

-When I install successful ESXi, I don't know how to start working with SAN. What should I configure P2000 before it be plugged into the SAN switch? Or I can plug it then config later? Because I don't see it on the ESXi server. And on the OS I installed on the Guest Virtual Machines, I see nothing new in Device Manager. I thought that this guest operating system will detect the mezzanine card. But I see only mezzanine card that connect to the P2000 by SAN switch in ESXi (see image here http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/684/dsc04088k.jpg ). To my knowledge, I think that ESXi server have to detect the P2000 as hardware device. Can someone teach me step by step install and configure a San on ESXi? Yes, it's a separate network used only for traffic management between ESXi hosts and vCenter - it is also the network used to connect to the environment - that's different, then the network used by your virtual machines

-If my system has problem, so I have to reinstall ESXi, license keys can be used again? Already, I have 8 license key for 4 blades (2 CPUs per server), but they have not yet used. Because I am new to ESXi, cause I had to reinstall ESXi several times to understand.

Yes the license keys can be reused, and if you use vCenter licenses will be managed by vCenter

Yes, you will be able to configure the San later - by default, the virtual machine will not see the SAn, as it is virtualized by your ESXi host - all the VM will see is a virtual SCSi disk - this doc's guide to vmware for storage - http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-51/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-511-storage-guide.pdf - you can visit the website of HP they might have documentation on configuring P2000 for vSphere -.

  • Differences Betweem ESXi and ESX

    Hai,

I want to know the differences between ESX and ESX? where can get. If they are distinguished by the features that are available are not available.

    Thank you.

Most of the features are available in available in ESX ESXi. In order to get the full functionality of ESXi, the host must be managed by vCenter Server.

ESX has a console that is drastically reduced in ESXi. It is actually easier to install and easier to manage ESXi.

vSphere is the range of products, including (hypervisor) ESX, vCenter (management) etc.

  • ESXi and UPS - Eaton?

As a new user of ESXi (and at the moment, the test user), I wonder how install you ESXi to work with an inverter?

How do you get the ups to send a signal to ESXi to stop (and to stop guests) free of charge until the battery runs out?

I've seen points to a script that can do this, but it seems this does not work with ESXi 4 in any case.

I heard that Eaton (Powerware) makes the units (5130 and 9130 I believe) that can interact with ESXi through their Netwatch software.

Does anyone use this? Is there a large number of scripts? Or did you just put the CD and install the software (assuming that the camera comes with a software installation CD)?

    Thank you in advance!
