ESXi does not service console?

Hi all

According to this http://hyperinfo.wordpress.com/2008/09/05/vmware-esx-and-esxi-comparison/

He said that only ESX service console and ESXi is not everything and must use RCLI.

But, isn't this console we receive from: F2 & gt; not taken into care & gt; root password, is a service console, which even we can ssh in?

Thank you

ESXi "console" is there as a back door so to speak to support problems that cannot be solved with vSphere client, vCLI or DCUI.   The notable difference with the ESX console is that the ESXi console is not supported for daily use.  Also, it is not audited as this is the console for ESX.  See article 1003677 for more information.

    Hello

I hope someone could help me with the question below.

I am unable to open the connection of MKS of VM - 10 to VM(Gold-VM) located on the nested ESXi (Esxi55-5) host. Webpage keeps loading MKS for gold - VM, but it does not display anything.

DNSServer, VM-10, VCSA, ESXi55-5 are connected to the same SSswitch - VM Port Group(Promiscuous Mode), subnet

Gold - VM... Virtual computer located on nested ESXi host

  • Second free ESXi does not work up to disconnect first ESXi

Hello, I have a free ESXi work to a Fujitsu RX300 server without problems.

But now I installed an another ESXi on a Dell PowerEdge 2850 server and after an installation successfully, I can not ping the machine.

If I disconnect the LAN of the ESXi first then second ESXi works correctly.

    Is there a limitation?

It is necessary to do any special configuration in order to have two standalone ESXi works on the same LAN?

    Thanks in advance.

ESXi is not a local console

In fact, it does.  There is a possibility that you have a conflict of MAC address I think the above poster was referring to.

In the yellow screen, press ALT + F1, and then type not supported - you won't see any output on the screen until you press on enter.  At the password prompt, type in your root password.

In the CLI, use the esxcfg-vmknic-l command to review the VMKernel port settings.  You want to watch the interface "network management".  Check the IP address and the MAC address from the other ESXi host to determine if you have any conflicts.  If you do, you can use esxcfg-vmknic with the d - and - an arguments to delete and recreate the VMK interface.

    Hello Mordi,

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work in my case. In the same environment, I have 3 different Vcenter unit deployments. None of them worked. For overcome I planned to change Appliance Linux on Windows platform. But something struck me at that time. I was using '_' in the name of devices which is known to cause problems.

Then I deploy the same device without '_' in the name, and it worked.

So in my opinion the virtual Appliance Center does not work if there is a "_" character in the FULL domain name

  • 1st install ESXi does not connect to the network

I used VMware Fusion and several versions of the workstation. I am a computer SCIENCE student and I'm trying to set up a virtual server for the purpose of learning environment.

First, I installed ESXi in workstation computer on my laptop. I scare IT LIKED. I ran to the store bought a fresh HDD to install ESXi to my old server Supermicro (MBD-PDSMA + o LGA). During installation, I received a warning that the Intel Virtualization has been disabled on my motherboard. I activated that can restart the installation. No matter what I try I can not this 'thing' to get an address from my DHCP server. I even tried unpluging my router and using several computers on my network as DHCP servers. Each of them I tried my entire network has received fresh IP address but my supermicro box did not. I tried to use two network, port 0 only ports and only 1 port. After having lost about 24 hours I tried to install 5.0.0 and it worked without problem. I would like to be able to update the latest versions unmolested my network connection is going to die on me when I do.

    Ideas?

My next issue will be storage because not even my JABOD drives appear in my passthrough RocketRaid 2220 and PCI does not seem to be an option for this card. Yep, that's good baby PCI - X... Say what you want about RocketRaid, this card was sitting at the bottom of a box of son with no static case a few years to 3-4 moves and it still works like a champ.

I had the same problem with a card mother similar supermicro who has the same Intel Lan Adapter as yours.  Using the e1000 drivers of 5.0 worked for me.  I followed the instructions in this thread:

  • VMware ESXi does not support the RAID on HP Proliant ML110 G5 drives

    Hello

I installed VMware ESXi on my HP Proliant ML110 G5. I got 3 hard drives on my server at the moment, one of them is VMware ESXi and other two are RAID1.
Whenever I connect to my server via vSphere client I have the chance to see every HARD drive (datastore) separately.  Is it possible that VMware does not RAID installation?
I would need to see these two hard drives as a data store. Do you have any ideas on how I can do?
    Thank you.

like any other typical server, you need to configure the sata raid controller RAID5/RAID0. but keep in mind that this controller without any battery backed cache would have very horrible performance. Another way is that you can use datastore span to provide as a large store of data, but if you lose all of the computer, you will lose all data.

  • ESXi does not recognize the PCI network cards

    Good afternoon-

I am trying to add a few new ESXi hosts to my virtual machine environment and I want my NIC integrated with the PCI NICs for tolerance to failures of the team.  ESXi is not to see the PCI network cards.  I can't find a way on how to add them to the host.  Add network cards in VC shows just the cards integrated network, the same as the ESXi console (or what there is of it).  What I'm missing here?  Thanks in advance.

    Server = PowerEdge R710

Is what model of network interface cards?  You may need to install drivers for them - http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/datacenter_downloads/vmware_vsphere_4/4#drivers_tools.

  • ESXi does not recognize the cd/dvd on HP DL380

I'm new to the hypervisor and really need some advice on a DL 380 I put up as a box QA. After installing ESXi 3.5, I created the virtual machine I need and proceeds to start a virtual machine, but was surprised to see that the server does not see the CD drive? I guess that would not as surprising, if it's a customized version white box, but a HP DL380, only one of the most common servers in the world?

Anyone has any advice or suggestions about what is a hotfix for this.

    Thank you

    Robert

In addition, once you can convert many of your applications and or OS installs in ISO format, you can just use your Infrastructure Manager client and connect an ISO to some VM you must have a 'CDROM' inserted in to.

For example, if you install Citrix and you have an ISO copy locally or on your network, you can simply start the virtual machine and then click 'connect/disconnect devices on CD' point to your ISO image. VMWare then moved the 'CD' for the virtual machine and it will be accessible as would a normal CDROM.

When you do that, your local CDROM in the ESX box really is not used for a lot more outside upgrades to ESX 3.5, and even what is done remotely today for ESX 4.

    Hope this helps

  • ESXi does not allow 64-bit customers, why?

I have here a machine that was happily running Linux + VMware Server, 32 and 64-bit hosts. I have ESXi 3.5u4 on it, but the on-board NETWORK interface was troubled.

I installed ESXi 4.0 and SATA only required no hackery and the NETWORK card has worked, and I was ecstatic.

Then I tried to add my VMs to him through the converter. "Host does not support 64-bit clients.

I thought you had to be a blunder, a problem with the converter.

Set up a new guest Vista64 from scratch, has begun to install, crash "your computer doesn't support 64-bit mode". WTF?

HP dc5800 with a Core 2 Quad Q6600. AT VT.

Why would he not be able to run the 64-bit ESXi 4.0 clients? He ran sub 3.5u4 and under Server 2.0 + Linux host.

Make sure that the virtualization (or VT) is enabled in the BIOS.

Also check in HCL to see if your system is compliant:

That's fine, I pressed F2 and enter the menu of the console.  I chose the Configure Management Network. BUT! It is in fact as reseting my network configuration.

ESXi is not all realtek drivers.  Things closer is a Realtek 8169, which was compiled by one person here in the forums.

  • 5.5 ESXi does not connect to VCenter 5.5

    I'm under VMware ESXi 5.5:

Product: VMware vSphere Enterprise 5, Plus allowed for 2 processors physical (unlimited cores per processor)

I installed VCenter 5.5 and the Appliance virtual VMWare.  However, when I connect to the web interface, I do not see the ESXi server, nor do I have the possibility to add the data center, or add anything else.  The VCenter 5.5 software all runs on Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.  I have disabled all firewall on this machine just to exclude.  I can connect to port 902 this machine ESXi machine.  I don't know what I'm doing wrong.  Looking at the logs on the computer of ESXi, I see no mention of it trying to connect, unless I'm looking in the wrong place.

Can someone point me in the right direction on how it works?  I looked everywhere on the VMWare Web site and followed all the instructions, nothing good.  I even edited the vcpx.cfg file and manually add the IP address of the machine of VCenter.

If you need me to post logs / files of configuration or anything else, I will do so.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

Screenshots of the problem you are experiencing would help a lot. Anyway, when you connect to the Web Interface, your first login must be in the [email protected] and the password you configured during the installation of the device. This will allow you to create all the objects, you need and assign the access rights that are related to your domain account.

  • 5.1 ESXi does not connect after installing - R720 Dell

I installed ESXi 5.1 update 1 on a Dell R720 server. The installation was made using ISO provided custom in the Dell site.

After installation I can't connect or ping to the machine.

After SSH-ing to the host via the console I could see that the host can ping to its own IP address, but not of its front door.

Is this a problem with the network Dell drivers?

Information: There are 4 network cards. All are Gigabit Ethernet of Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5720 cards.

esxcfg-NICS - l gave me the output below:

    Esxi 5.1.JPG

    Please help me with this.

    Hello

You should check the configuration of your network management. If the IP, subnet mask, gateway, DNS are correctly configured and if it it set to vmnic3, as it is the only NIC you connected.

If everything is correct, I would check the physical switch of the server config is connected to. Maybe the port is blocked or a bad local VIRTUAL network is configured.

  • 5.1 ESXi does not recognize a RAID partition

    Hello

I try to install ESXi 5.1 on a machine with hardware RAID1 option.

However when the installer lists readers that I can install it on the system, he mentions both drives as if the RAID wasn't there at all. I did not say that it breaks RAID, since the installer then partitions the disk selected as seems it.

Is this a bug? I saw no other options that would allow me to reference the installer on a RAID configuration. As I said, it's a hardware RAID, powered by my motherboard ASUS Z77 - V LX (with an Intel chipset).

It is the first time I set up a virtual server - so please advise me what I am doing wrong.

    Thank you 1 million,

    Piotr

Your motherboard is not true hardware RAID functionality. It's a thing of fake-RAID of typical consumer that relies on specific drivers loaded in the BONE to pretend a RAID. See: https://ata.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/SATA_RAID_FAQ
