  Recently, I upgraded my ESXi host from version 5.1 to 6.0.0.2809209. Passthrough ESXi 5.1 USB worked without problem. I updated 5.1 to 6.0 when usb smart card readers is connected. Now USB smart card readers did not appear on ESXi 6. 0b.

  I couldn't find any usb tethering in settings of the virtual computer .

  You want a quality certified USB 2.0 key.  A particular brand is not a requirement.

  For the backup of your ESXi host (the config only) you can use vicfg-cfgbackup of the vCLI or Get-VMHostFirmware of PowerCLI.

  I have a number of servers with all motherboards Intel S2600GZ loaded with 5.5 ESXi. Some servers of USB devices work OK (keyboard, mouse, keys USB etc) but others no devices are listed.

  I've seen a few threads that say to activate EHCI hand off but these bios do not have this option. I tried all sorts of BIOS settings on the servers that does not work for USB devices to the list in ESXi, but nothing.

  lsusb on one that works returns keyboard and mouse, etc., the same command on the other and nothing is listed

  These servers all have the same exact bios revision and were all installed in the same installation DVD!

  What can I check in ESXi server work compared with servers don't do any work?

  We have not seen this problem with 5.1 5.5 only

  Any suggestion would be appreciated.

  I solved this problem, for those who may have the same problems:

  I got Intel VT - D directed I/O enabled in bios, I also had 2 Configuration of hubs x USB for transmission of PCI device. I tried to disable this in ESXi, but it does neutralize not after his license. I disabled Intel VT - D directed I/O option in bios, actually forcing ESXi for free transmission devices and USB devices are now properly detected. lsusb lists now all the devices connected to the server as it should!

  If you want to only connect the USB dongle to a virtual machine, add a USB controller to the virtual computer is simpler. Once you have added a USB controller, turn on the virtual machine.   Yes it has an internal USB slots (2) and Dell Power Edge T310 is the HCL just check your CPU

  People had a lot of problems installing ESXi4 on boxes, but it is associated with RAID controller driver.
