ESXi 'free' 5.5 and Enterprise Linux 7

I use ESXi 5.5 with the 'free' license to my lab at home. I'm starting to experiment with Enterprise 7 Linux (CentOS, Oracle, etc.) and of course 7 is not listed as an option in the vSphere client.

What are the options I have to go to the web client that can properly support version 10 equipment and new operating systems?

vSphere Web Client is an option, you can check it out here: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 guests in ESXi 5.5 Update 1

You can try the vSphere Client 5.5 Update 2 that give the possibility to change the material of vmx10, but not 100% if you can deploy RHEL 7 from there.

I have a bunch of servers ESXi (free) and now I want to manage them centrally.  I have the pirce for virtual Center, but I'm not quite clear on whether or not I need to change the ESXi license or not?

    Thank you

    Hey,.

    http://www.VMware.com/files/PDF/ESX_Server_3i_presentation.PDF

Take a look at page 12, it will show the different types of licenses with ESXi.

You will need to buy at least the basic license to enable management of the VC.

  • Oracle enterprise linux and oracle 10g?

    Hey;

I am fairly new to try to download oracle and get installed on a linux machine. I made a few attempts on linux fedora core 10 and home edition of windows vista that does not go very far. Since I just passed my exams for ocp via a boot camp (yay for me!), I'm hoping to get a couple of linux boxes operational so that down the concepts by the practice.

From what I read, it seems that I can download enterprise linux, put it on a system and then download oracle 10g and install this w/little or no difficulty (at least not expected...)

Am I reading that right or did I miss something? Any info greatly apprecaited.

    Hello

You can download enterprise linux and 10g and go there. Pre-packaged for the components required to install the oracle Enterprise linux software, here is a link for further reference see cross-platform compatibility.

  • memory usage of Oracle on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.2

    Hello

I installed a copy of Oracle 9.2.0.4 db server software (Enterprise edition) on Oracle Enterprise linux 5.2 (32 bit)
After installing the software, I created two instances db with DBCA.

Now the question is that, after I start the instance db, after awhile, I see more than 95% of the 8 GB of memory on this server in use.
The size of sga max of these instances collectively is not more than 800 MB. In fact, even after closing one of the instances of memory
consumption do not go down significantly because the instance is not assigned too much memory in the first place.

With the help of TOP does not give a clear picture at all. If I keep the db instance down after restarting the server, consumption of memory is quite normal - less than 500 MB for all internal servers OS treats. SHMMAX is a default value of 4 GB and swap memory occupies about 16 GB. Another point that I want to stress is that I don't see most of the 16 GB memory swap are allocated. Nearly 90% of swap remains free.

I was wondering how I can solve this problem on a new server.

    Hi usr1298

I've installed a lot of servers Oracle Linux 2.1, 3,..., 5, and in each of them, I noted that the same behavior. At first when I saw this behavior, I thought something was wrong, but it's the behavior of memory on Linux when Oracle works. I think that default Oracle software reserves all this memory (90%) and that it uses on request but really the software does not use all the memory in a real way in the proceeding does not heavy operations. As I wrote, do not worry about this and worry on this subject when the swap space began to be used more than 20% despite the SGA_MAX_SIZE and the sum of the other parameters of memory does not receive nearly the total amount of RAM.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 operating instructions

I only managed to get installed DAQmx and running RHEL 5 and I wanted to put the instructions here in the hopes that I could save someone else a large part of the time.

First of all, I want to thank all who have contributed to the forums OR regarding the DAQmx Linux software installation. Most of the information contained in this how-to came directly from these two positions: Fedora Core 6 How-to and Fedora Core 5 - kernel 2.6.20 - 1.5 NATION howto

A special thanks goes to ninevoltz, who took the time to understand apparently most of this stuff on and even pushed back the developers of the core on the limitation of length of symbol of modpost.

Here are the steps I took when installing a PCIe-6259 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, 2.6.18 - 53.1.19.el5 kernel:

    1. Add UTS_RELEASE to the version.h file

      • CD /lib/modules/2.6.18-53.1.19.el5/source/include/linux
      • CP version.h.dist version.h
      • Cat utsrelease.h version.h.dist > version.h
    2. Create a link to asm_offsets.h with an underscore in its name
      • CD /lib/modules/2.6.18-53.1.19.el5/source/include/asm
      • ln s asm - offsets.h asm_offsets.h
    3. Modify the application of modpost to accept names of symbol more of 500 characters
      • CD /lib/modules/2.6.18-53.1.19.el5/source/scripts/mod
      • CP modpost.c modpost.c.dist
      • Change the line 1116 '#define SZ 500' to '#define SZ 1024 "
      • CD /lib/modules/2.6.18-53.1.19.el5/source
      • do (Note: this will fail, but will get far enough to rebuild the modpost program.)
    4. Download ni.com NIDAQ800_RedHat.iso and install it
      • Mount-o loop/mnt NIDAQ800_RedHat.iso
      • CD/MNT
      • . / INSTALL
      • CD
      • umount/MNT
    5. Remove the packages OR rusted, installed by NIDAQ800_RedHat.iso
      • rpm - e - nodeps nipali Edward nipxirmi niorbi nidimi
    6. Download NI-VISA - 4.3.0.iso to ni.com and install it
      • Mount-o loop/mnt NI-VISA - 4.3.0.iso
      • CD/MNT
      • . / INSTALL
      • CD
      • umount/MNT
    7. Recompile the kernel modules OR
      • / usr/local/bin/updateNIDrivers
    8. reset

This procedure worked great on my system, I was still able to run the application/usr/local/bin/DAQmxTestPanels successfully. I had read that others had to wrestle with some MesaLib to make it work.

Yes, whoo hoo! And, good luck.

  • PCI-Gbspecifications installation on Redhat Enterprise Linux 5

    Hello

I tried to install the beta version of the software for the PCI-GPIB on Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 card.  Has anyone managed to do this?   I get an error message indicating that I need to install the package kernel-source to continue.  I did it by installing the package kernel-devel and kernel-head, but still receive the same error messages. I also tried to make a version of Redhat of the answer to Q5 in the Readme for this software, but again without success.  Someone can please help me out (and don't forget that I'm still pretty new to linux administration).

    Hello

The actual error message said I'd need the kernel-source package to continue (I thought I had).

In fact this morning I turned on the computer and just tried again, and it worked.  So somewhere between the kernel-devel/kernel-header download, try suggests SUSE difficulty in the readme file, and install the complete kernel as non-root sources (suggested by another linux forum), fixed it.

    Thank you very much!

  • How to delete windows and install linux?

I couldn't use my Windows 7 system more because spyware / adware kept interrupting me, and I couldn't remove it without having to pay $100 to upgrade the antivirus and spyware, so I decided to install Linux instead. How can I delete my system Windows and install Linux Debian?

Download DBAN (http://www.dban.org/) and won't burn it to a blank CD/DVD using ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/) (in XP/Vista), no additional software required for Windows 7 or well make a USB bootable with Universal USB Installer (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/)

Insert this device and enter the BIOs setup in the setup of the BIOs (F2 on the screen of the Bios Dell, a different key to the non-vallons), disable the card readers THAT DBAN otherwise does not quite. Starting the device (hold F12 for a Dell one for a non-Dell BIOs screen and then select boot from CD/DVD or USB respectively). Follow the instructions on the screen to eliminate completely all the data on your hard drive. Do this before installing Windows. Once it is a complete restart as a guest and then power down. When switching on maintain F2 to enter the BIOs setup, and then select the card reader.

This will have wiped your hard drives correctly.

Then install UBUNTU or similar do this by downloading their recent .iso and make a bootable USB drive or DVD and boot from it (F12 on the screen of the BIOs Dell or similar for another Dell) - follow the instructions on the screen and see if you like. http://www.Ubuntu.com/

You can also reinstall Windows 7 with latest Service Packs, more recent definitions of Microsoft Security Essentials & Microsoft Security Essentials, a decent free firewall like Sphinx Windows 7 Firewall Control and also Malwarebytes' Antimalware. A guide based on Dell, including links to download may be found here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/w/microsoft_os/1434.aspx

  • Paths multiple problem with PowerVault MD3200i + Oracle Enterprise Linux (5,7)

    Hello

I'm trying to configure MPIO on a host (running Oracle Enterprise Linux Server 5.7) connected to an Powervault MD3200i. I have a few unexpected problems with/dev/dm-0 missing after reboot.

I configured 3 virtual disks (RAID 1) with MPIO. 3 devices have been created (/ dev/dm-0, / dev/dm-1 and/dev/dm-2).  If I mount them manually, they work very well, so I've added to the fstab. After a reboot, I checked that/dev/dm-1 and/dev/dm-2 have been automatically but is not/dev/dm-0. In fact, the/dev/dm-0 has disappeared from the directory of the device (!)

If I rinse 'multipath f' and ' multipath - v2 "the device gets recreated, but disappears on the"
next reboot again. How can I resolve this behavior? Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance.

    See you soon

I thought about it... the problem is that I had the wrong specified dev in fstab.

Should I use the devices in/dev/map /... it worked immediately.

    Hello

    It should work without problem.

According to the following document, you should have the kernel version 2.6.18 - 8 or higher.

  • Devices USB 3.0 not being seen by 5.5 ESXI (free version)

I'm under 5.5 ESXI (free version) and I have recently just got 2 external drives 5 to, these are going to be my new NAS readers who are easily made by samba on a virtual machine Windows Ubuntu LTS 14.04. When I plug the readers to a port USB 2.0, the ESXI OS will detect them and allow me to add them to a virtual machine but USB 2.0 are slow and these drives are capable 3.0 and my motherboard has 2 3.0 ports then why not try to get the extra speed. When I plug these drives into the USB 3.0 ports OS ESXI cannot see them and when you try to add USB devices to the virtual computer it says no device available. No idea as to why this is? IM guess 3.0 is supported on ESXI 5.5 (free version) because it allows me to add a USB 3.0 controller support. Thanks in advance for any help.

    FIXED!

I have SSH on the server and typed this command:

    lsusb

It gave me a list of all my usb ports and devices. My 3.0 ports not appear. So I started the USB 3.0 xhci driver by typing this:

    vmkload_mod xhci

    then I typed in:

    lsusb

again and then is! my cameras are now available!

Add this command to the file /etc/rc.local.d/local.sh that it will always start with the loaded discs.

I need to perform a p2v of oracle enterprise Linux server.

Can someone please tell me the correct procedure (if no document is available, that would be great ), thanks for the pointers.

This was better than I expected, I downloaded converter 5.5.1 and it went smoothly, no reconfiguration needed, it installs GRUB, patch mount point entries in fstab and re-create the virtual disk original (all automatically).

    Bravo from VMWare.
