ESXI Server

Hello to all!

Can I add a server ESXI one my existing ESX 3.5 infrastructure?

This server can you be part of the cluster of ESX 3.5 servers already existing?

If so, can I make the vmotion between ESX Server and ESXI Server?

That is the advantage to have an ESXI server in an ESX environment that does not exist?

Thank you

Hello

Yes you can add an ESXi server in your existing infrastructure.

Yes on the year to cluster United Nations and Yes on can do make the VMmotion.

But reminds you that if you want to manage from your virtual Center, HA, do the Vmotion will it take the necessary licenses.

I don't really see advantage to insert an ESXi in an environment that does not exist, if the payer has to pay all these liceces, as well take the full version of ESX.

The big desanvantage of ESXi is the service Console is not accessible, which is sometimes necessary pour some utilities and script APIs are only in read-only mode.

    (1) each location access & manage esxi servers / VMS than by its user admin - own data center / Esxi servers / VMs

    Select your data center to host & cluster inventory, go to the Manage tab, under you will find authorization tab, where you should add authorization with spread to children, by selecting the account user/group and appropriate role (create custom roles if necessary).

    (2) is not access any other server Esxi / VM - no access to the other data centers / Esxi servers / VMs

    Suppose that the user is given with permission only on Dataceter1 in your inventory, that account has no default on any other data centers, so when permissions that the user will be able to see these inventory items where he or she has permission.

    (3) a super user access and manage all the server vCenter / Esxi Server / VM

    Select your vCenter Server server in host & cluster inventory, go to the Manage tab, under you will find tab permission , then you must add the permission with spread to children, by selecting the account Super user/group and appropriate role.

  • All virtual machines to an ESXi Server ping

    Hi all

    For a project of mine, I need to create a script that asks for the ESXi server host name,

    and after that start ping all virtual machines that are on the ESXi server.

    I tried to do without success up to now.

    Help will be appreciated.

    Thank you!

    What follows is based on the fact that the VMware tools are installed.

    If they are not installed, you could adapt the script to try and ping displayname VM.

    $esxName = "MyEsx".

    Get-VMHost-name $esxName | Get - VM | %{

    $hostnamePresent = $_. Guest.HostName - don't $null

    {if ($hostnamePresent)}

    $pingable = test-Connection - ComputerName $_. Guest.HostName - count 1 - calm

    }

    else {}

    $pingable = $false

    }

    Select - InputObject $_ - the property name.

    @{N = "This Hostname"; E = {$hostnamePresent}},

    @{N = "responding"; E = {$pingable}}

    }

  • How can I recover data from my ESXi server after getting a "Pink Screen of Death"?

    Hi all

    I blame myself for that. I got about 1 GB od space left on my ESXi server and used MDT to create images and ran out of space. Well... all of a sudden, I had a pink, although very nice screen, what was being done was ugly.

    I have ESXi hypervisor of 5.5 is installed with all my virtual machines. The screenshot leads me to believe that there is no space and that is why it error. Has anyone ever run into this situation? Are there any tools or techniques, I can try

    Thanks in advance!

    Phil

    ESXiPintkScreen2.JPG

    The only thing left to try is the following: when the host is powered off, insert the disc, start the host, when you get a choice to start the latest version installed from a certain select ESXi installation (it should show on which drive it is installed), if not the last, once started, it should start the disc should be available without problem.

    As much as I can test and tested, this allways did the trick.

    If however it does not matter where, I think you have a disk failure (unavailable TPG, Pearl sectors, reformatted,...). It is not my expertise.

  • Cannot access ESXi server via network

    Hello world!

    We have a HP C7000 Encolosure with 4 BL460c Gen 8 blades in front size of it. Back size of the C7000, we have 2 SAN Switch, 2 switch HP BLc GbE2c layer 2/3 and 2 Onboard Administrator Module.

    Everything is working fine with IP addresses like this:

    OA active:

    IP address: 172.16.0.253

    STANBY OA:

    IP address: 172.16.0.254

    Server Blade BL460c Bay 1:

    The IP address of the ILO: 172.16.0.10

    Server Blade BL460c Bay 2:

    The ILO IP address: 172.16.0.11

    BL460c blade Bay 9:

    The ILO IP address: 172.16.0.19

    Server Blade BL460c Bay 10:

    The ILO IP address: 172.16.0.20

    We can ping pc that connected to the port of ILO on Onboard Administrator (OA) IP addresses above. (I can it call PC MANAGE?)

    Continue, we access OA via Web https://172.16.0.253 use of , then Console integrated to control 4 Server blades. We have mounted image ESXi 5.1 U1 and successfully installed on 4 servers blade.

    We manually config IP address on each ESXi Server (like this):

    BL460c Server Blade on Bay 1 as server ESXi 1:

    IP address: 10.0.0.11

    BL460c Server Blade on Bay 2 as server ESXi 2:

    IP address: 10.0.0.12

    BL460c Server Blade on Bay 9 as a server ESXi 9:

    IP address: 10.0.0.19

    BL460c Server Blade on 10 Bay as a server ESXi 10:

    IP address: 10.0.0.20

    Now we can ping server to another server ESXi ESXi 1. I mean 4 Blade Server can ping together.

    BUT:

    -We can not ping servers to blade PC of manage (that PC connect to the port of ILO on OSTEOARTHRITIS. In this scene, MANAGE PCs has the IP 172.16.0.100/16)

    -We unplug the network cable from the port of iLO, then connect it to the port number 24 on HP BLc GbE2c LY 2/3 switch, then address IP of the PC to MANAGE the 10.0.0.100/24 value. Always the same, can only access servers

    Can someone explain to me how to access this server (ping, http, etc...). Do we have to config switch HP BLc GbE2c LY 2/3? We read many many guide on the HP website, but they have not mentioned about routing or switch to configure

    Thanks in advance!

    It's my mistake!

    My servers have 2 connections FlexLOM. That a connection has been enabled for 'network management' in ESXi. I do not understand, then I activated 2 connections. That cause outside the network can not access them.

    I just disabled a single connection and everything works perfectly.

    I thank everyone!

    You won't be able to go in ESXi. See http://communities.vmware.com/people/vmroyale/blog/2010/12/29/how-to-install-vendor-updates-on-server-hardware-running-esxi for a set of instructions, that you can use.

    My plan is to set up for lab test (VCP5 test) and possibly configure 4 virtual machines.  What are the best way to build that ESXi server to test?

  • is it necessary to connect my ESXI Server

    Hello

    is it necessary to patch my catch up on ESXI?

    I have two server ESXi in my VCENTER. is it necessary to connect these two ESXi server each month something mineral?

    Both work fine until one year now...

    Well, it is recommended to keep the software up-to-date (security, bug fixes,...). However, it really depends on your needs and requirements. Personally, I usually check the release notes for critical issues that could affect me, in order to determine whether the patches should be applied immediately or if I wait until the next updates are released. I know people/companies who perform the same bits without problems because the environment has been installed (years)

  • Access NAS storage of ESXi Server using VMKernel Port?

    Hello

    I would like to know the best procedure to connect to the NAS storage of ESXi host 5. I am able to connect to the NAS storage according to the screenshots listed in the link below.

    http://www.tintri.com/blog/2011/11/connecting-vSphere-to-NFS-the-easy-way/

    But, I saw different configurations in the past where port dedicated VMkernel is assigned to NAS and all storage goes into network 10 G. I try to do the same and created a VMkernel for NAS port. But I don't think that traffic is going over there as it is not used at all.

    I gave the IP address of the ESXi server on the NAS box to get access. I couldn't give address IP VMkernel sideways NAS. How can I make use of this IP VMKernel dedicated NFS storage?

    I want to implement the best way to pass NAS 10 G network traffic. In addition, How can I test if storage traffic crosses VMkernel port?

    Suggestions needed.

    Virtualinfra is right that you must use a different subnet for NFS traffic. You masked the IP range, so I don't see what you use, but make sure that the vmkernel and storage using a single subnet, not the management subnet. If you get an error, your use of a subnet that goes out the default gateway of the management port, or that you are using the same subnet.

    I wrote a few articles on the use of NFS with vSphere: http://wahlnetwork.com/2012/04/19/nfs-on-vsphere-a-few-misconceptions/

    Also, make sure that the vmnic can route traffic on that subnet, as in the case of the use of VLANs.

  • workstion 8 - cannot install 64-bit on the esxi Server vm

    I installed VMWARE WORKSTION 8.2 on my system after I installed Win7 64-bit.

    Then, I installed the server ESXI WORKSTION Version 5 469 512 on VMWARE WORKSTATION

    Now I'm running the server via VSPHERE CLIENT 5.

    Whenever I try to install a virtual system on the ESXI 64-bit version, it gives an error that the system is not supported and I can only use it for information.

    If I install the 64-bit version of virtual on my computer without problem systems, why I can not install on the ESXI SERVER ?

    Change the settings for the virtual machine for the VM ESXi.  On the processors tab, check the box next to 'Virtualiser VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/IVR.'  If your hardware supports this feature, you will be able to run embedded 64-bit clients.  For more information, see nested running VMs.

  • updated images of VMware Server to use in ESXI server

    Hello

    I just have a lot of virtual machines that has been configured and used by vmware server 1. Now, I'll use ESXI server, when I downloaded the images to the esxi server and tried to run, I had a mistake in VMDK. Is it possible for me to change VMDK and use these old images or I need to reconstruct images from scracth. also, is there any availbale tool to update my old images to use ESXI?

    Thank you

    ESXi does not support the scattered disk format used by VMware Server by default. What you can do is to follow the recommendations of weinstein5and use VMware Converter or convert the hard file in a supported format (zeroedthick, eagerzeroedthick or thin) using the vmkfstools in ESXi command line tool.

    Assuming that the virtual disk has no snapshots, you can follow these steps in order to maintain the virtual disk file name.

    • create a 'old' subfolder in the folder of the VM on the ESXi host and move the hard files in this folder
    • Basic virtual machine folder run for example vmksftools old-i /hard-d thin vmname.vmdk
    • If the virtual machine lights without problem, you can remove the "old" subdirectory
