Ethernet port

MY on my IMac Ethernet port stopped working,

Try another Ethernet cable, if the cable turns out to be good then reset the SMC and LANDAU 2 - 3 times back to back a iMac Intel SCM and reset the PRAM. If you have no luck, they you should start using Wi - Fi. The Ethernet Port is built into the main logic board, which means that is it she's not full main logic board needs to be replaced.  Depending on the age of the computer, this may or may not be reasonable to replace. If the computer has an AppleCare, it left, and then a failure would be covered by the AppleCare.

  • Using the second ethernet port to connect to the printer?

Hi I have a Mac Pro 2.1 old school and I'm wondering if I can connect to the network with an ethernet port and connect the latter to a printer?

    If so, how?

    Yosemite running.

    Thank you

Physically, you use a port and a cable to connect to your network and use the second port and a second cable to connect directly to the printer. The printer must obviously have an interface Ethernet himself.

However, you need to configure the second port on the Mac and the Ethernet port on the printer for each manually configured the TCP/IP addresses and these should be in a range of different network to your main network.

If you the main network is something like 192.168.1.1 then your printer and the port on the Mac connection to this need to be in another network, such as 192.168.11.1.

In theory, if the printer supports Hello aka. mDNS, then maybe you can get away with not having to configure TCP/IP addresses for the connection.

The main reasons to use a second separate connection as this would be the performance or security, and frankly I don't think that's really relevant here. This would mean that no other computers on your network will be able to access the printer.

  • Ethernet port on iMac 2013 does not connect

iMac 2013 WiFi works, but slow (25 to 40 Mbps off potential 250 + Mbps. Somedays as fast as 179 Mbps wifi, but not lately) router misplacement slows me down and very hard to change the location of the router. Ethernet cable is good. Cable used to work with the iMac, but now it does not work. Not sure if hardware problem, or if the updates of the AOS has caused. Same cable works always with older macBook and iMac. 270 Mbps with the cable connected to the MacBook. A detailed visual inspection of the port does not bent pins. New looks.  Ports of the router has changed. Changing cables. Reset the router. You wonder if El Capitan or other updates might close port? How to re-enable?

In addition, Apple Support recognizes that they broke the Ethernet Ports and suggest that if we:

"Kernel Extension Configuration Data incompatible Version 3.28.1" we can fix it by going to the command line entries.  However, this version is not on my computer. I have 3.28.2 since 29/02/16 and articles 3.30.1 06/04/16 and 17/04/16.

They say on the following link:

If the Ethernet on your Mac has stopped working recently - Apple supports

If you can connect to Wi - Fi, follow these steps to update to version 3.28.2

    1. Open the activity monitor, located in the Utilities folder of the Applications folder.
    2. Select the CPU tab in the activity monitor, and then type "up-to-date" in the search field. The process of softwareupdated should now be the only listed element.
    3. Open the Terminal application, which is also in your Utilities folder.
    4. Enter this command in a Terminal to upgrade to the current version of the extension of the "Incompatible Kernel Extension Configuration Data" kernel:

      sudo softwareupdate --background

    5. Enter the admin of your OS X user account password when prompted.
    6. Switch to the activity monitor. When using the processor (CPU %) of the process softwareupdated is reset, the extension of the core must be updated.
    7. Select restart in the Apple menu to reboot your Mac.

I prefer not to do that since I could break it's worse and I 3.28.2 and beyond.

  • Pavilion HP 11: ethernet port on hp pavilion 11 fried... solution... ?

    Hi all

new to the forum here and decided to join because I have a little problem with my laptop...

I did something stupid today. I tried to program a hitachi PLC with my laptop and accidentally hooked the ethernet cable to the port of evil on the controller (the port that would normally connect to a touchscreen / HMI) with the result that my port ethernet on my laptop got fried. After a few seconds smoke started coming on my laptop from under the keyboard so I quickly janked out cable ethernet. It's only there for a few seconds, but the damage was already done.

On the good side of things: everything seems to work OK again. WiFi still works. Only problem is that this laptop has a single ethernet port and I really need this port.

I took the cover but nothing obvious comes out. I know it's kind of a vague question to ask; but someone would have ideas on what could have broken and how to check what might be broken and what not?

I'm not very familiar with computers is passing, so forgive my lack of knowledge.

    Thanks in advance

A network card is not present, there is a wireless adapter.

Ultrabooks like yours with RJ-45 ports do not have separate wired adapters that can be replaced.

The NETWORK adapter is part of the motherboard and is not replaceable individually.

Given that yours was smoked checked there may be some damage of traces on the motherboard.

With the help of a mulitimeter won't help in any way. Even at big books in ancient times the NIC was part of the motherboard. A ultrabook is not a desktop computer. Motherboards same office have the network cards integrated into the chipset.

Replacing a motherboard, this is how your network port fried will have to be resolved. Otherwise, to avoid the cost of replacing the motherboard, use the USB cable card NETWORK adapter.

Under the guarantee, the induced lesions of the RJ-45 port owner is not covered. It's an excluded damage type.

  • Ethernet port disappears

I'm on a MacBook Pro, end of 2013, El Capitan 10.11.3 running.

Just today, I went to run a test using my Ethernet card rather than my wireless adapter and I couldn't connect.  I spent more than an hour to get to the next State:

    1. The operating system cannot see the Ethernet port.  If I run the system information report the Ethernet port is not listed.  Initially, I got the Ethernet port defined in my automatic position.  When I opened and went to advanced-> Hardware, I couldn't see my mac address and the configuration was virtually empty.
    2. After that a lot of research I restarted with the ethernet cable is connected and press command + r.  When the diagnosis came, I select Network Diagnostics.  There, I could see my card Ethernet, the mac address and the assigned IP address.  I disconnected the cable and saw the idle connection.  I reconnected it the cable and the returned connection active.
    3. I tried to reset the NVRAM using the Option + command + r + p, but without success.

It is clear that the hardware is functional.

How to restore the connection in the operating system?  I tried to add manually the ethernet card, but because the operating system does not see the adapter is not available to add manually to the location.

I need help solving this problem.

  • The bridge network to the ethernet ports

I have an Airport Extreme base station for my wireless at home. The problem I have is that the base station is not near a few features, that I need to hard wire. I read that you can set up a network bridge and if I understand correctly, this concept, it's like setting up of another wireless device, but this second device provides you with the required Ethernet ports for connectivity. Is it possible to do with the Airport Express secondary device?

Most of the other posts that I read said to extend the wireless range, but the range of my base station is not the issue. I just need a couple on the way ports. I've heard this can slow down the entire network however. Is this feasible? All known reserves? Advice is appreciated.

Is it possible to do with the Airport Express secondary device?

    Yes

Most of the other posts that I read said to extend the wireless range, but the range of my base station is not the issue. I just need a couple on the way ports. I've heard this can slow down the entire network but

It all depends on if you configure the AirPort Express to "extend" the network... which will lower the maximum speed potential of the network by all 40-50%...or...whether that you set up the base AirPort Express for simply to 'join' the network... which causes a decrease in the speed of the network... but it will provide 2-port Ethernet for wired devices.

If you need more than 2 ports Ethernet on the Express, you can add an Ethernet 5 port, 8-port switch, etc., to create as many ports as you need.

Don't know what kind of speed you need for the Ethernet ports, but they are limited to 100 Mbps, then that would be the maximum speed available ports Ethernet on the Express.

  • Mac Pro does not recognize the Ethernet ports

After a reboot for my end of 2013 Mac Pro OS x 10.11.3, the two Ethernet ports are most recognized. Suffice to say not 'connected' is one of them.

    I have:

    • rebooted a couple of times
    • Reset the PRAM
    • the power disconnected for several minutes left
    • tried two different terminals
    • tried two different Ethernet cables
    • tried the two Ethernet ports

The light of the end device will blink.

    WiFi works fine.

What should I do before I decide that there is a hardware problem?

  • Ethernet port no longer works

    Hello

I have an iMac (21.5 inch, mid 2011) running OSX 10.11.3 and today my ethernet port no longer works.

    Things I've tried:

    • Put the cable on another computer. The cable works fine.
    • Several reboots of the imac.
    • Go to safemode (SHIFT key at startup), still does not see the ethernet port.
    • Past to recovery (command + R to start) mode, the ethernet port is functioning normally. (Now I'm confused)

Thus, it works in recovery, but not in normal mode or safe mode.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Hello

In your case, I would first check device manager if the network card has been installed and recognized properly.

In addition, you could remove the card from LAN from the list of devices and reboot the laptop. After restarting again the operating system should recognize the LAN card removed. Also you must download the driver of NIC in the Toshiba page and needs to be reinstalled it

Last but not least, you should check your router settings may be possible not the network adapter does not work correctly but your router!

    Check it out!

  • Extended to Airport Extreme Ethernet ports not IP address assignment.

I have an Airport Extreme as my basic router and another Airport Extreme and an Airport Express, which runs from the router.

Since the extended Airport extreme, I have an Ethernet Hub and a Macbook Pro connected via an Ethernet Port, but every time I attach any device to the ethernet port on the Airport Extreme of the device has an auto assigned IP.

Although, when I'm attached to the long terminal Airport Express, it's the IP assignment correctly.

Is a way I can make the Airport Extreme to assign the IP address?

Is a way I can make the Airport Extreme to assign the IP address?

The two airports 'extension'... the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express... are in Bridge Mode when they "extend a wireless network".  DHCP (the process of allocating IP addresses... is disabled when a device is in Bridge Mode... it's up to your "main" AirPort Extreme to assign all IP addresses to network devices.)

The 'extension' airports simply pass the IP address information to connected devices... the devices 'extension' assign IP addresses themselves.

Since the AirPort Express works correctly, it seems that the 'extension' AirPort Extreme is the culprit.  From what you have told us, it seems that if the Ethernet switch on the device is not working properly. We learn more about this unit before us to jump to conclusions.

    (1) what is a newer version of the 'tour' of the AirPort Extreme or an older version of 'flat' or 'square' to the extreme?  If it is the old version, we need the model number of the bottom of the unit.  It starts with an "A" followed four digits.

    (2) when you connect an Ethernet cable to one of the Ethernet ports to the extreme that extends, is the little green light next the port light?

    (3) what operating system you are using on the Mac or the PC that you use to configure the airports?

Your MacBook Pro has built in WiFi.

    Wi - Fi

802.11ac wireless Wi - Fi network; IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n compatible

It is the best way to connect. You will need a router if you don't already have one.
