Exchange discs hard btw two identical with XP Home SP3 OEM installed OEM specifications

One of my laptops Gateway 8510GZ is 'die' (issues of video button and power). I want to take the hard drive of the laptop 'dying' and install it in the 'good '.

Reason: The road to the 'dying' is fairly recent, faster and has more capacity. It also has a lot of programs that will require hours of resettlement.

QUESTION: Can I take the dying drive from that and put it in the 'good' and call Microsoft to reactivate?

Two 8510GZ machines came with XP Home OEM operating system (updated subsequently with SP3). They were 100% identical at the time of purchase (only of the different serial numbers - of course). I only have the recovery disc OEM for these machines. I have a family version of XP Pro with an unused license left, but was not enough to mess with a clean install and find all of the drivers concerned.

If the material is ABSOLUTELY identical in every respect then you may find that you don't need to reactivate... If you find my answer helpful, please click the button "Vote as helpful"! Thank you!

  • Two files with identical (i.e., repeat) names

When I look at my E drive in Windows Explorer, I have two folders named \Users in the root (using Vista with the latest updates). When I look at from a cmd box, I see only one.

I think that the other was created when I used robocopy of Vista to save my files C e (for example "robocopy c:\Users\Steve e:\Users\Steve"), but (1) I don't think that you could end up with duplicated in the same folder names and (2) how do I specify which of the two files I want to copy files to?

You cannot have two folders with the same name in the same directory: something must be different (perhaps underscore at the end of one thing or another).  I don't know how or why this happened.  When you scroll through each of the files are identical in terms of content (same issues, the same files, you can open files in both folders,...)?  I'm not familiar with robocopy, so I don't know if it was responsible (although it seems likely).  If they are identical in all respects, just remove one and use the other (or better, remame to something else and save it elsewhere "just in case" - at least until you do not know the folder that you have selected the proper functioning and there is no problem.)  I give it a month and then delete the other folder.

If you see only a cmd then move some files to a different directory, then check on Windows Explorer to see what folder the change (and check that it appear in both).  Then you'll know which folder to use, and to rename are shown above.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck.

  • removing the disc HARD dv4t-5300

Oops someone showed me where the maintenance manual is on this.  Thank you!

I just bought a laptop HP dv4t-5300 series.  I removed the small bottom plate to find that there are no screws to remove the disk hard so that I can put in my drive SSD OCZ Vector (w00t).  Dv6t-7300 there is two screws and disc hard this spell.

I can't find any on HDD removal textbooks and when I called technical support HP says the hard drive can't get out and it is a particular size for a SSD will not fit.  The hard drive is a standard 2.5 "and I think that the tech knew what he was talking about.

Anyone would be able to seat me with where to find a manual or something on this computer?  Usually youtube or some forum or Internet HP site it would, but I can't find anywhere, anything on this computer again.  Sometimes, you have to remove the keyboard in order to install things but I don't want to start taking everything as part of discover that it's just a hidden screw or something.

    Thank you!

    Hello:

I agree that you have received incorrect information.

  • Certificate error on one of the two identical systems?

I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04, PC01 and PC02 two COMPLETELY identical systems. The browser is the latest version of Mozilla Firefox.

When visiting https://www.komplett.dk/k/signin.aspx with cp01, the connection is secured and everything is OK, no error message. When you visit the same URL with PC02, the following error message appears:

    ---
    This connection is Untrusted

You asked Firefox to connect safely to www.komplett.dk, but we cannot confirm that
    your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect safely, sites will present a reliable identification to prove
you go to the right place. However, the identity of this site cannot be verified.

    What should I do?

If you normally connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that a person is
trying to impersonate the site and you should not continue.

    Get me out of here!

    Technical details

www.Komplett.dk uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not approved, because no sender string has been provided.

    (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

    I understand the risks
    ---

Why is - what happens when systems are COMPLETELY identical? I tried to delete the folder of profile on both systems, but the result is the same. NO certificate has been installed manually on cp01, so this isn't the reason. The size of the file cert8.db on cp01 is 94K and on PC02 is 64K, I don't understand how the size may be different when profiles are newly created.

I really want to know why, I feel a different behavior with Firefox, on two identical systems, so any suggestions or ideas are welcome.

Note that Firefox automatically records the intermediary certificates that send servers in Manager certificates for future use.

So, you can't see a mistake if you have visited a Web site in the past who did send the intermediate certificate.

If you have ever visited a Web site that uses the same intermediate certificate then Firefox it has not registered and you will get an error unreliable.

  • Satellite Pro L300 - new partition after Exchange of HARD drive sizes

Under 'Vista' with a 120 GB hard drive and needs space.

Bought a 500 GB SATA drive. I'm afraid that the recovery software will set the new drive with a 50-50 Partition. This is the case or it will allocate 50 GB to E: / and the rest to C: /?

As the manual States that if I change the size of the partition the recovery software will not re - install in the future?

    Hello

As I know the Toshiba Recovery disk always allocates 50% disk space for each partition. This means that the 500 GB drive you have two partitions with ~ 250 GB of disk space on each partition.
If not or you want to change something, you can use the Windows disk management tool:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB7101OB0006R01.htm

I think the manual means that you can use t more the procedure for recovery of HARD disk if you change the size of the partition.
But with the Toshiba disk recovery you are on the safe side and so you can always restore the factory settings every time. :)

  • Portege 3500 - change HARD drive and deal with overheating CPU

I recently bought a Portege 3500 without any support of discs etc. It doesn't have a CD or a floppy disk. It has 2 problems, I want to trouble.
    (a) HARD drive is obviously out because it is by clicking on me, and it presents a permanent red section during defragmentation.
    (b) the fans are at full power all the time, and the CPU is running slowly.

    (a) I had a new HARD drive that I reformatted on other laptops. I put a base Windows XP on this HARD drive and uploaded on my external that I attach to the Portege. I used "transfer... Assistant "to transfer files, folders, and settings to the new HARD drive but I don't know how to install the old Windows XP OS Tablet it." I have the product key of Microsoft for the operating system. Any suggestions would be helpful.

    (b) I believe that the transfer of heat from the CPU on the radiator is a failure, causing the processor to hot and therefore slows down. I already solved the same problem with a Dell by coating the top of the CPU with Artic Silver 5 paste. I cannot, however to get the CPU in the same Portege so I removed all the screws down. Does anyone know how to split the case without causing damage?

    Hello

    (a) Unfortunately, but I don t really know how you want to install the operating system without using the recovery CD or the windows CD.
I searched a bit in this forum and found these messages on the installation of the OS on the Portege 3500:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=5926
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=15336&MessageID=55939

    See also this FAQ:
    http://support.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB6101CA000ER02.htm

    (b) on the Portégé, you should find the power saver utility. This utility allows you to change the different modes of cooling and processing speed.
In my opinion, you should also check if the fans are clean. Especially the dust and debris inside of the laptop is responsible for cooling not properly of the CPU and other parts.

But if you want to know how to remove the covers so I would recommend checking this site. Maybe you'll find something useful.

  • What size of HARD drive is compatible with my Satellite A100-771

    Hey guys,.

is there a size limit of HDD for my A100-771?
And what type of HARD drive I need? IDE or SATA?

    Thank you very much.
    Eathen.

    Hi dude

From my experience, the Satellite A100 series was equipped with SATA drives.

There should be a SATA HDD controller and you can use SATA 2.5 hard drives.

I think that there isn t disc HARD size limit since the SATA controller is not limited to all special HARD drive sizes

I think that most SATA HDD must be compatible

  • Portege R600 - exchange of HARD drive

We are very impressed by our new R600-S4201, among the first to be released in the American market. But we would like to exchange an SSD for the 160 GB conventional hard drive. CSR Toshiba says that we can do it - that it will not void the warranty - but unfortunately the disassembly procedure did not he still Manila.

R500 instructions do not help the R600 is a unique piece, with only applies for memory, etc., but not for the hard drive.

We have removed all the screws (really ALL), including the screw of one side, but the background is not 'free '. It is hung up by the projection of the ports, etc. on the eSATA (side not the DVD). It is too thin and fragile to take a lot of strength, then we're stuck.

It seems that the background should move outwards if he wants to overcome these obstacles. We should remove the top panel, paved touchscreen and keyboard, but there is no obvious way to do it.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

AFAIK swap the HARD drive, you must remove the cover on the bottom side.

On this laptop it s a little more delicate and you need to remove a large number of screws to exchange the HARD drive. If you go to a local ASP and ask a technician for help.

  • Removing the disc HARD on TecraA10-112

I have a Tecra A4 with XP Business. I am able to replace the HARD disk drive by unscrewing a plate under the laptop and in Exchange the HARD drive.

Also, I have a Tecra A10-112 with Vista business and would like to buy a new HARD drive can I install Windows 7 on when it will be available in October.

However trying to unscrew the plate on the A10, I couldn't remove the plate - screw unscrewed, but the plate wasn't - there seems to be a silver 'trick' on the plate which can be the cause of the problem.

HOW can I REMOVE from THE PLATE

A I can't find what is the HARD drive, so I can buy a new for Windows 7
B I can exchange as I can with the A4

    Hello

I can understand that you are not satisfied with the response from Toshiba, but you must understand why they send content. On Toshiba laptops, by a hardware upgrade can be done by the owner of the laptop and other authorized personal only.
As you can see HARD drive upgrade or replacement must be carried out by technicians.

For example: you try to replace the HARD drive and damage your laptop HARD drive connectors.
So what you can do to solve this problem? Who should be responsible for this and, at least, who should pay for the repair?

In the end, I must say that you can do with your laptop you have and if Exchange you it to HDD please do the following:

    1. remove the screws fixing the HARD drive cover
    2. Insert your finger into the slot and lift the cover of the HARD drive to remove
    3. remove the HDD from the slot and disconnect the HARD drive harness connector. (if the connector is located on the left moves the HARD disk to the right)
    4. remove the screws and separate the HARD drive and disk HARD holder

Take care to not press on top or bottom of a HARD drive. Pressure can cause data loss or damage to the unit. Please note that you do this at your own risk.

If you have any questions on Win7 let me know.

Ugggh.  I have a 27-inch iMac late 2011 and the hard drive was updated with a new SSD.  The integrated cd/dvd had to be taken out.  I then bought a thought of superdrive, it should work.  It's frozen on my iMac!  Gee, who could have possibly guessed that would happen?  I tried all kinds of silly workarounds, I found on the internet, but still it will not register the stack of DVDs and other discs I have.

If you're like me and upgraded your iMac that came with a cd/dvd drive internal... so he has to come out to give way to the fusion or the SSD drive, do NOT buy the apple superdrive.  It will work with your computer!

Think I'll get a laptop samsung...

Ironic, isn't it? Own Apple SuperDrive will not work with Apple computers. Shame you don't check here first that we would have warned you. Return Apple overpriced and buy a nice third-party player for a third of the price. I love the LG units. You can consider a loading plate because they are more reliable, and you can use these pesky disc when you get one.
