Explorer.exe uses half of my CPU.

My system is 32-bit Vista SP2, after I start and open the Task Manager it shows explorer.exe using half my CPU capacity. If I end the process, everything is empty. After that I have re-opened by creating a new task, then all is well. After that, I have no more problems until I have re-boot and it happens all over again.

Thank you

Hi Tad P,.

  • Explorer.exe using 50% CPU

My Vista has suddenly become almost unusable.  Task Manager shows explorer.exe uses 50% of the CPU.  I rebooted a couple of times.  If I use the Task Manager to kill him I can run programs using the application tab.  The computer works well without exploring. But then I don't have a task bar so I hope it's temporary.  I ran the windows malicioussoftwqare removeal tool - who found nothing.  The program is c:\windows\explorer.exe.

    Does anyone know the solution?

Many times when someone experiences this problem, it may be due to add-ons explore or shell extensions. Consider using Sysinternals Autoruns or ShellExView. Disable Add-ons and non Microsoft shell extensions and verify the behavior.  If he went, reactivate the disabled extensions/add-ons, one at a time and see if you can identify who may be liable.

Try a clean boot, or boot into safe mode.  The behavior persists?

You can use Process Explorer from Sysinternals to check the stack of the thread using the most CPU in the explorer.exe process, when you experience the behavior.  When Explorer uses the CPU as you have indicated, double-click the process in Process Explorer and go to the tab of the Threads.  Sort the list of threads by Cycles Delta (descending) and note the thread at the top. Double-click it and discovered its stack. Look for third-party modules (extensions of shell or modules, AV software, etc.) in the stack.  Disable (Autoruns or ShellExView, maybe) / uninstall these components, reboot and see if the behavior is affected.
  • Explorer.exe uses too much CPU

This application has requested the execution to terminate in an unusual way.

If I click on OK, or simply close the dialog box explorer.exe ends and restarts. After awhile, it starts to use full CPU again, and the same dialog box appears again. I have installed new software and tried almost every other way, this forum as restart explorer.exe etc...

PresentationFontCache.exe service is only useful if you use WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) applications. If this is not the case, start services.msc and disable the service.

  • audiodg.exe using WAYYY too much CPU...

A few days ago, I was using my computer as usual, and I noticed that my laptop was running slower than it normally does. I tried to watch several YouTube videos and the video played very choppy and generally slow. I am writing this, this problem is solved, but at the opening of the resources on my laptop monitor, I noticed that 'audiodg.exe' used about 65% of my CPU! When I didn't have any big program running, so I immediately set to find out what it was, only to discover he had something to do with my audio. I have no idea why it uses so much CPU, before that I didn't even know it existed because I have not had any problems with him. I tried several other solutions to this and nothing helped. And so, here I post this question: "Why use so much CPU"audiodg.exe"on my laptop, and what I can do to stop it?

[Already solved the problem myself to restore the system to an earlier date]

I use a computer laptop studio dell with 64 bit vista home premium, with 4 GB of ram

every time I try to move files or try to remove file Explorer uses memory abov 50 k and completely the system stops responding. the wise man of the hard drive will blink continuously until I have to restart the system manually, the screen locking system is also not apper when you press ctrl + alt + delete. If it will not block an error message appears that the Explorer has stopped working and must be restarted. Once again this problem arises sometimes and his sweet sometimes.

Please suggest a fix for this problem, I was unable to obtain a solution of the interview here ppl.

Often, a certain instability in Windows Explorer is due to the defective shell extensions and addons.
Consider using Sysinternals Autoruns or ShellExView. Disable Add-ons and non Microsoft shell extensions and verify the behavior.  If he went, reactivate the disabled extensions/add-ons, one at a time and see if you can identify who may be liable.

If you continue to experience the problem, consider creating the hierarchy of following registry keys in the registry:
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows error Reporting\LocalDumps\explorer.exe\
In the explorer.exe key, create a REG_EXPAND_SZ value named DumpFolder and set the value to%systemdrive%\localdumpsdata.  Ensure that the %systemdrive%\localdumps file exists, and then cause the crash to happen.  It must be a dump file in %systemdrive%\localdumps. Download the dump on your SkyDrivefile.

Thanks to all of you for the answer to my question on dllhost.exe. I don't know what I did or did not, but the dllhost.exe disappeared. I don't know that I've screwed something to make it work on my computer in the first place. I don't have a clue as to why he went with the exception of dumb luck on my part. The malware knows that you will not be able to find and see it in the Task Manager.  The hopes of malware, it will inspire you to do something drastic as use a Restore Point, perform a repair installation, or even reinstall your XP from scratch when none of this is necessary.

    Hello

You did changes to the computer before the show?

    Method 1
The problem may occur if the computer is affected by the virus. I suggest you run virus scan online by using the Microsoft safety scanner.

  • artifacts when you drag windows/windows Explorer by using too much cpu capacity

Dragging a window (not just browser windows) leaves a trail of white on the screen.  Closing any window is slow; Obviously the window collapses down before disappearing.  Manager Windows taskbar shows explorer.exe using amany as capacity 50% of CPU when this happens.  This always happens.  It started when I installed IE8.

What is happening on three different machines.  They're all running XP, one is a laptop computer to dual boot with Windows 7 as the other BONES; the problem is not there when it is started on Windows7, but are there in XP.  All machines run at 3 Mhz or faster, bicoeur have all 4 GB of ram or more; the smaller hard drive is 640 GB.  We have integrated graphics card Intel; We have a discreet ATI video card; We have a discreet NVidia video card.  They are all updated on the drivers.  All the MS applicable updates are installed.

The problem disappears if I uninstall IE8; reappears when I reinstall.

    Thank you

    Hello

I have the latest drivers installed on all three machines.  I still have the problem.

I went to visit a friend, installed IE8 on XP Pro machine and had the same problem.

I visited another friend, verified that they already have IE8 on their two XP machines. No machine to had the problem!

It took me two more days to spot the difference.  Machines to display the icons of countertop is not a problem, but if you uncheck the display icons on the desktop and have desktop background image (especially an image high resolution) in the stretch mode the problem surfaces.

I found a solution to the problem.  I resized the image I used to match the resolution of the screen (three monitors, three sizes).  It seems to work even by hiding my icons and let the computer decide how best to run.

I would like to hear if anyone can check out what I found.  I have explained the apparent conflict.

    Thank you
